Work travel brought me to Ukiah for a couple of days, and tonight I enjoyed a lovely dinner with a friend who suggested we try El Molcajete. The place was bustling for a Tuesday evening. I started with one of their house margaritas--great flavor, a solid punch, and just enough tequila to spark a pleasant buzz. For my main dish, I went with the steak taquitos... or maybe they were flautas. I usually prefer corn tortillas for taquitos, but these were still quite good. The steak was well-seasoned, and the garnishes and salsa rounded out the plate nicely. My friend ordered the sizzling trio of fajitas and asked for the veggies extra charred. Honestly, I don't blame her. The aroma of blistered peppers and onions filled the air in the best way. Service was also good but can use a little less checking in. We enjoyed the food, but even more, we enjoyed the atmosphere and each other's company. read more

When El Molcajete moved to their new location they were making an effort at first, but they are starting to slide into old habits. Food is inconsistent. Sometimes it is good. Sometimes it isn't. You can't rely on it and that is what matters. My wife and I tried to celebrate our anniversary there tonight, but our waiter screwed up my order in three different ways. I asked for whole beans instead of refried beans. He said he would take care of it. He didn't. I asked for sour cream and guacamole. I got neither. There was no explanation, just plates tossed on the table and then the server left before I could say anything. The waiter never came by to ask us how our food was. He never refilled our water glasses. They sat empty forever. After he took our order he never returned. It wasn't like El Molcajete was busy either. They were less than half full. Prices have gone up a lot in the last few years at restaurants. Customers deserve good, consistent food and good service. With El Molcajete it's like playing Russian Roulette. You never know what you're going to get. Tonight, it was lousy food and lousy service in the most uncomfortable chairs I have ever had to sit in at a restaurant. I'm not sure if I'll give them another chance. read more

It was my first time here and I like it a lot. I ordered the Menudo and it was delicious. I also had a taco and was also delicious. The customer service was great. The location was great.. And I'll be back for more when I'm in town.. read more

Skip this place. Wife and I had dinner there on 08/08/26 and negative experience all the way around. I doubt the owners read the reviews, no response on negative reviews. I ordered 2 taco combo plate, the wife has half chicken and half steak fajitas. The shredded beef in the tacos did not have any flavor, the most blandest shredded beef I ever had in my life. My wife's fajitas were all over the place. The rice and beans came out first, then the fajita meat a couple of minutes later, and then the tortillas came out last after a few minutes?!?!?! Heaven forbid if everything came out on time and not minutes apart. And the fajita meat, the steak was so thin and overcooked(probably in part of how thin), any thinner and I could probably read through it! Chicken was the same. Basically sandwich slice thin. Service was non existent, 4 servers and not one came by the table, only when the bill was ready. Keep in mind, it's 105 degrees, my soda cup is clearly empty and sitting at the edge of the table and not one person came to check on our table. Piss poor service. I ordered to go. I was craving some good broth with meat and vegetables, so I proceeded to order a menudo expecting "the best in town" and SURPRISE it was the WORSE THING I ever tasted before! Sooo watery flavorless at all and besides that no condiments anywhere, I had to buy my own chopping cilantro, onions and lemon by my home! Then I also ordered a fry fish for my daughter and it was the same sooo flavorless the fish and the rest in the order! Service soo slow and ignoring you when you asked for your order! I was expecting something else just to enjoy at home but obviously that didn't happen. I don't recommend at this point at all! read more

I don't live in Ukiah but frequent the area. This was the first time eating at this restaurant at this location or the former location near the airport for that matter . Service was great and had a chill ambiance. The menu was broad enough to appeal to anything you might be hankering for. I attached pics of the menu for you to look at. I loved the trio of "dipping " sauces for the house tortilla chips; verde, a spicy tomato salsa, and a a warm bean dip which I don t know if I've ever had before. All good stuff. I had the Macho burrito with carne asada and grilled jalapeño. Delicious and definitely two meals for me ( I can't eat as much I used to). Partner had a ceviche tostado. Looked plentiful too and she ate the whole damn thing. Wow Anyway, main point is that I recommend this restaurant and will be back for sure. Check it out yourself. You'll say the same. read more

YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY! I loved the presentation of the three salsa & bean dips with chips, the green was my favorite. I ordered one of their Macho Burritos with shredded beef and in my personal opinion one of the BEST I've EVER eaten. I knocked one star off because my husband ordered a CHIMICHANGA, which was tasty, but he expected it to be deep fried and crispy. The dishes we saw served to others had AWESOME presentation. They were packed at lunch time but we were able to get a table inside. It was a gorgeous day so sitting outside would have been optimal, as the seating area outdoors is lovely. I ordered ceviche and there were 9 of us. They all had different plates. They were very accommodating and friendly. The outdoor patio is a cute little vibe. The new pastor taco stand guys were so nice they gave our entire table a taco on the house. I also had a giant margarita and it was only $14. This restaurant was fast and good. We both felt the sauce on the tacos could be a bit more flavor packed but still was hitting the spot. If you are more than a little hungry, get three tacos if they are your go tos. They are kind of small. The service was good and the place was clean. read more

I loved this place when it was at its old location on the south side of town. Service was always great and the food was always delicious, but this place somehow found room for improvement. The handmade tortillas are absolutely amazing and reminded of when I would visit my abuelita in Sinaloa and she would send me to get her fresh toritillas from the torterilla. I asked for Cabeza, Lengua, and Chorizo for my tacos. The meat was flavorful and I couldn't get enough. The staff was amazing as usual and their michelada mix was on point! We also had a mango blended margarita and an agua de horchata. Absolutely amazing to have this place in town. TRASH!!! Customer service TRASH!! Walked in and sat down damn near 10 minutes until someone asked if we wanted water or something to drink. Waitress looked right at me and said I'll be with you then walked off and immediately started laughing with her coworker and my wife had to say excuse me can someone get us some water. People came in after us and already had chips and salsa water and an alcoholic beverage. We were charged extra for salsa and I ordered some grilled peppers with my food and was charged extra for that. Food was mid at best. We will NEVER!!! Go there again!!! read more

The carnitas soft taco is one of the best live ever had, bar none! The refried beans were delish. My daughter has the Cali Burrito & loved it! The chips are warm, crisp, with three salsa choices that are each awesome. I absolutely recommend this fabulous place. Service was just as excellent as the food! Starting off with walking in, it was pretty busy only 3 tables open inside and even though it was pretty chilly the outside seating area was a party of maybe 15-20 people, we sat down at a table that a server was vigorously cleaning every inch of. I grabbed the menu and started looking for my go-to, the CarneAsada Burrito. The server came up within maybe 3-5 minutes asking if she could start us off with a drink or she could take our order if we already knew what we wanted. The five of did make our order and had our drinks in maybe 5-7 minutes. Maybe 20-25 minutes later our food arrived and when the server gave me my burrito I was kinda depressed because my burrito wasn't very big for the price. I assumed it was going to taste amazing but was sadly mistaken. I mean it was good but for sure not worth the price. The server was awesome with the service (drinks) but honestly if I go back, I will not be getting the Carne Asada burrito. read more

We were long-term customers at El Molcajete. Tonight we ordered it to go order: taco combination plates with rice and beans crispy tacos, Carne Asada, and one chicken taco. I placed the order from my car on the way there, four blocks away. I arrived about a minute and a half after I left my home. I stood in line for a number of minutes waiting to pay.. my order was already ready by the time I had arrived at the restaurant.... 1.5 minutes after I ordered it. I paid for the food and went home. The order was totally wrong.. not only was it wrong, but it was cold. We called back to try to get our money refunded or something. The restaurant blamed me for taking the wrong food.... the food that they handed me. They refused to give us any credit whatsoever. They told us we could come down and pick up the correct order if we wanted to, which would've also been cold, since over 20 minutes had passed. They just ripped us off for $38 and a tip.
