Very good food. Authentic. Delicious! Great service! Ambience is very simple, but worth going for the food!

Their food varies. Sometimes it is pretty good. Sometimes it isn't very good at all. To make matters worse, their prices are HORRIBLE! I paid as much to have a Mexican dinner here as I do for a steak dinner at a local steakhouse! That's insane!!! I pay twice as much at El Azteca as I do at Taqueria Jalos and Jalos is much better! Save yourself some grief (and money). Go to Jalos instead! I would give them 4 stars if they would cut their prices in half and if their food was more often consistently good. read more

This place was on the outskirts of town and we have a favorite in town, but my husband wanted to try something new, so we went in. It's got a bit of an old world atmosphere, which I liked. We were greeted upon walking in and seated right away. I saw an outdoor patio with about 3-4 tables occupied and there were 3 indoors besides us. Our server realized it was our first time in and was patient with our questions. She also strolled by another order to show us the different size burrito's. We went with the pizza and the non wet grande burrito. My margarita was slamming with a tajin rim and my husband really liked the tea. We waited about 15-20 minutes for our found to arrive which was piping hot. First but of the pizza and I was shocked. It was absolutely mouth watering delish. It's kinda layered with the topping, so you don't miss a thing. The burrito was pretty yummy as well but I had to add pico and salsa to it for more of a kick. The quality of the food was very good. All in all it was a fantastic first experience. We will put it on our rotation when we come into town for sure. Good eats y'all. read more

Always good. Every dish tastes the same over multiple visits, so you know you'll get what you enjoyed on your last visit. Severs are always congenial and there's never a long wait for food, even when we have a large group. It can get loud during the dinner hour, but if the weather is nice outside seating is available. El Azteca is our "go-to" for Mexican food! read more

I have been here a few times over the years. The food is consistently good. I really enjoy the salsa, although sometimes the chips are stale (not often). The service has always been great. The staff is very friendly, and you don't have to wait long for your food. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and I have enjoyed both settings. I think that the prices went up some time recently, but that seems to be true for most places. I enjoy getting the tamales, but the tacos are good too. The Mexican pizzas look amazing. The beans and rice are ok. Overall, I think the place is great, and I will continue to stop here when passing through Ukiah. read more

As long as I can remember 40+ years this restaurant has always had Excellent food, service, & comfortable ambiance.

Visited here during the week for the first time; I asked the waitress what kind of margaritas they had as their menu did not say; she told me only original house flavor.... Well I saw other people ordering flavors, and blended. I ordered the house margarita ($9 on happy hour- insane) and it was warm with very little ice- I ended up using my water glass ice. I ordered the blended strawberry next and it was good, but I had to remind her 2-3 times of my order and 25 minutes later I received it. I ordered the chili verde bowl, and it came out tasting like black mole- no chili verde taste in sight with only a few pieces of meat. The place was packed inside, with two waitresses and taking forever to close out. Very overpriced- I won't be back. read more

I stop by El Azteca every time I'm in Ukiah visiting family. The food always so flavorful I've tied many things on the menu and nothing has ever disappointed me. The service is always very pleasant and attentive. The art in the restaurant is beautiful and bright with the perfect liking for a night out. read more

This is a super cute restaurant and the only Mexican restaurant between Ukiah and Willits to have actual tequila in their margaritas - which are pretty good! The food brings me back to the 1960's and 70's California. This is baby boomer Cal-mex, not Tex mex and certainly not Mex-Mex! That said, it is comforting and pretty good. Bring me more of that iceberg lettuce salad with 1000 Island dressing with some Crispy Tacos with ground beef and yellow cheese! HA. The beans and rice are actually good and the flavors aren't bad. But all those deep fried "Chimichangas", hard tacos, and ground beef...Yikes. Staff is excellent. I am not sure I would even want that menu updated, though. Brings me back.... I wonder if they would serve me corn tortillas on the side with butter? I am ten years old again. read more

In contrast and in comparison to last nights debacle, this eatery is salve for the soul, or so it felt. First: margarita. Juicy, refreshing, no fancy shit. Mixer, floater, salt, rocks. Paper straw, served friendly like and quick. I ordered a crispy ground beef taco and a tostada, no meat, just beans, lettuce cheese. Gary had two shredded beef crispy tacos. Best light, crispy taco & tostada shells that I Have Ever Had. And I am from LA. Gary says "the shells, the taste, they didn't fall apart when you ate it". He is right. The chips are crunchy (not Gary's favorite, he is in love with the chips down at our local Mexican hang) and the fresh pico de gallo is noteworthy. This local eatery; not sure if you'll ever get here to little Ukiah, but this place exudes a rich history where still, the locals, true outskirt chic, with silver tipped bolero hats and sleek blue jeans, bouncing nieces with curls on laps while young nephews wearing well made and well lived in cowboy boots all sing happy birthday to their pretty aunt. And again, to Grandma; another table, another family, same celebration. We all sang, the whole place, and we all clapped. And Gary and I focused on our food again, and each other. I was really amazed of how a small place was super pack. There were only 2 tables available. Seeing a place like that makes me think that the food is delicious but that wasn't real. Yes, the place was packed. We waited about 20 minutes for them to get us a menu. It was like a total of 30 minutes from the moment we walked in to the time they took our order. You could see a lot of impatience costumers hungry waiting for their food. Non of the tables had food only drinks. Suddenly, waiters began to come out with food and seem like everyone was eating at the same time. Food from people who ordered first than us was brought same as the ones who ordered last. Food was okay but I'm pretty sure they can add a bit more taste. They can be more organized so people don't wait too long. The place is nice but for sure can do better. read more

Because I used to have family in town, I've been to this restaurant many times in the past. On a recent visit wanted to see if it was still as good as before. Ordered the chili Colorado enchiladas and wow really delicious, the meat was tasty and tender and the sauce just right. Beans and rice also excellent, no complaints at all. Service was fine. If you're looking for something similar to TACOBELL pls come here.. although I rather have TacoBell. This is FAR from an authentic Mexican restaurant..this is coming from someone who is mexican. First of all who charges extra for Asada... ON TACOS.. beans tasted like canned refried beans. Rice was okay, price was outrageous! Authentic mexican tacos do not have lettuce and SHREDDED cheese.. at this point just call yourselfs a fancy tacobell! read more

Place is a glorified Taco Bell. First red flag was no horchata...like what?! What Mexican restaurant doesn't have horchata....also apparently they don't make carne asada. I recommend the cheese and chile colorado enchiladas. I was too full to try the flan. It gets dim at night. No aguas frescas like horchata. OK bistek. Our meals came with salads. Restrooms are in the back. The special came with a cinnamon fried-tortilla chip dessert. This was worth going out of the way for. I love the food here so much that it's often been the first place I stop even before reaching my family's home! "Meet me there!" Lol They do remember you if you go often... Sometimes they even remember me though I can only come a couple times a year. Makes my parents feel very welcome. My mom has always loved their margaritas (as long as there usual mixologist is there). :) I often buy extra portions of the red sauce, freeze them, and take them back to southern California to have a taste of home any time I want. Thru could easily sell that and the blue cheese dressing at the grocery store! Yum. I always order a double portion of their salad... It's even gotten fresher in recent years. Love this place!! Chips so fresh and crunchy they are still warm when you get the basket. Plus the red sauce salsa is without a doubt my favorite of all the restaurants I go to. Reasonable price and never bland. And you can order a giant bowl of alcohol for the table. I go sometimes just for that and the salsa before a movie or something. Even if you're not too hungry they have ala cart and great iced tea. Would be there all the time if I lived in Ukiah. read more
