La Cocina is a mixed bag for me. Some things are great - like breakfast - yum. I had some french toast with fruit and condensed milk on it with cafe de olla, which was delicious! But they didn't have regular coffee, which was weird. I also have had a really good coctel de camaron (shrimp cocktail). Was a little put off by the narco corridos playing on the big screen at breakfast, I have to say. I've also had some good enchiladas here at lunch time with good rice and beans. The thing they do NOT do well is tacos. Really - don't get the tacos. They come in poor quality factory grocery store tortillas that are all cracking and dry. The meat is dry. They are just not good at all, which is disappointing. But this place has real potential, just is a little bit of a bumpy ride. read more

Awe man, this place was the titz, but I've been here a bundle of times, so it wasn't like I didn't already know that. Feels like walking into the barrio when you enter. I was staying at the hotel across the parking lot, and asked the gal at the front desk if this place was good, she said yes - so I believed her... first, the service from the guy and gal there, was so good. They really didn't do anything above the basics, but they were kind, efficient, they smiled - they were great! The chips and salsa were delicious, and I could have eaten 10 lbs more... but I had to save room for my shrimp fajitas. They were delicious! So so good! Went in at 5pm on Saturday. Very noisy. Music was too loud and obnoxious, so conversation had to be loud to hear. Made it louder. We were told to choose any table. It was clean in the restaurant. Smelled wonderful. We ordered and had our food in about 10 min. We ordered chili verde and a chili verde burrito. The chili verde was tasty. The rice was good. The refried beans were runny and pretty flavorless. The burrito was huge and tasty. We brought home about half. Did not bother to bring home the refried beans. The salsa was spicy but good. They are super good. Feels like tacos in Cozumel. Love the radish and red onion and lime. Al Pastor x 2. And the kids chicken burrito is perfect size for my appetite. The to go packaging is perfect. As close to authentic as you can get. The service was great. They were playing nice music. The food was delicious. The horchata water was also delicious (not made from concentrate), no photo of it, but it was yummy. My companion ordered an assortment of tacos (it was taco Tuesday) chicken, asada and al pastor. I got two asada tacos and two al pastor with everything. They were a lot more spicy than I am used to, but the flavor was incredible! We were shopping and needed to dip in somewhere for a sweet treat. This place got pretty high ratings so we decided to check it out. The food all around us looked great, this dessert plate was good. Fresh ice cream with a Hershey's syrup drizzle and the churros were...good. For some reason three out of the five were hard instead of chewy. The cinnamon and sugar topping was delicious. We will try entries next time we are in the mood for authentic Mexican food. Service was friendly and prompt. I visited on a Saturday at 6pm. The place was pretty empty but they had an on-going queue of to-go orders the entire time we were there. We ordered a few tacos and a quesadilla. The chips and salsa were complimentary. The portions were big. Everything was super fresh and delicious. I really liked the quesadillas--the beef was super tender. Their fish tacos were great as well. The restaurant and restroom were very clean and the staff were super friendly and sweet. I went there because it was by the motel I was staying and and I didn't feel like driving to go out to dinner. Friendly staff and prompt service. Small easy-to-clean dining room. Order at the counter and they bring it to your table. Limited menu. The food was okay but there was nothing about it that made me think, "Boy, I gotta come back right away!" Pulled up in front at 5:30 ona weeknight and saw no one seated inside. We almost drove on, but decided to give this small 10-12 table spot a try. Solid food, but when we soon were followed in by three other parties and the two-person staff were quickly overwhelmed. The food at La Cocina is fantastic! Had two tacos, an al pastor (marinated pork) and an arrachero (marinated steak) and, wow, they were both delicious, especially the arrachero! What a great find in Ukiah and located in a strip mall, too! Both came with very flavorful tender meat that was perfectly seasoned. The filling was generous and the tacos were a nice size. The complimentary chips and salsa were delicious, too, especially the salsa verde. On top of the wonderful food, the service was friendly and efficient. When my dining companions ordered drinks that they didn't have, they actually brought them two other drinks on the house! Such a nice gesture! As an out of towner passing back on my way to LA, it seemed cute and cozy. We stepped in to order a breakfast burrito. We ordered a Ham & Chorizo based burrito as well as a Ham & Bacon burrito. They were pretty stuffed and flavorful. I thought their menu was limited yet direct. The restaurant is easy to find as it is located in a shopping center next to Starbucks and there is ample parking. Food: The food is delicious and authentic. The rice & beans reminds me of my grandma's cooking. And I've never had any issues food wise until tonight when I tried the Pollo Asada, the chicken tasted like it was once frozen, like fake and low quality like chicken you would get from Taco Bell. I wasn't impressed, kinda bummed out about it but my man ordered the chile relleno & let me try it and it was really delicious. Probably the best I've ever had. Service/ambiance: The service is always really good but the ambience of eating inside is not that great. The seating is really uncomfortable. My wife had the Chicken Quesadillas and I had the Verde Enchiladas. Both were very good! Our waitress seated us immediately and gave us menus. Once we ordered our food arrived in just a couple of minutes. Our waitress kept our drinks topped off and was always there when we needed anything. The bill was about half of many of the other Mexican places in town and the food was much better here. If I could, I would give this place 6 stars! I will definitely be coming back here. We went to LA Cocina last night. We chose La Cocina because it is one of our favorites. I have been a customer since they opened and even had a big birthday dinner with 20 people there. I hope last night is not indicative of where this restaurant is headed. As soon as we sat down they brought chips and salsa... after that, nothing. We waited 25 minutes and never got water, or even an acknowledgement that we were there, not even a sorry, we will be with you in a minute. I finally found my favorite restaurant in Ukiah! I've been here at least 3 times now and this is my review from my second visit. We decided to try their breakfast menu and drinks and they didn't disappoint! I ordered the chilaquiles and my husband got the French toasts. To drink we got a flight of mimosas and their cafe de olla. My only complaint with the chilaquiles is that I requested to try both red and green sauce on them and it didn't happen but they were delicious and the flavors on that plate were amazing! The French toast were perfectly cooked and so yummy. The cafe the olla was perfectly made that I didn't have to add anything to it. My favorite mimosa was your traditional one with tajin on the rim. The host and waitress were very attentive and the food didn't take long to come out. The portions are decent and the price is fair. The restaurant is not that big but it's cozy and clean. Like I said this is now my favorite restaurant so far so I highly recommend it. read more
