Our parents are from Bogota, so when we moved to Denver, we searched for a Colombian place for some authentic cuisine for nostalgia purposes. We found La Chiva, which serves recipes from Bogota, and we're so pleased with it! We've been going since they opened the South Broadway spot and even joined them to watch a World Cup match this past Summer. It's owned by a really nice family and all their staff are very sweet. The food is delicious too! Our omnivore friends have ordered beautiful cuts of steak and they say the chorizo is great. We stick with the vegetarian meals, so the Arepa Andina and the Bandeja Montañera. We've also had their yuca and salad appetizers, which are great. Glad to see ls Chiva is back! But needs to improve service, went last weekend during a busy time so got in the waiting list, sadly they never called to let us know the table was ready. Also, the owner was rude when we inquired about a different table, and the waiter (the guy with the bleach blond hair) ignored our request for some utensils had to ask several times. We understand they were overwhelmed but if you want customers to support your business this type of service is unacceptable. read more

I loved this restaurant. The food and service are amazing. They have a variety of options that go from delicious empanadas to bandeja montañera, and natural juices. The ambience is perfect, not too loud, not too quiet. The portions are perfect for one person, but if you feel that it's too much you can take it home. I will definitely come back! read more

Walked in with friend on a Saturday night without a reservation (website doesn't say anything about taking reservations). Seated at a two top. We ordered wine and appetizers from a female waitperson and as soon as she walked away, a male server walked up to the table and rudely asked that we order our entrees right then as the kitchen was very busy. My friend and I were taken aback as the restaurant wasn't completely full. Empanadas came and they were delicious. Entrees were very good. During our meal servers broke several glasses and a shard of glass hit my friend's foot. My final analysis: Food is very good but we felt rushed by rude server. You have to give props when they're due. This place was one of the most satisfying meals I've ever had. Very meat heavy - but hey, I knew what I was ordering. The owner was super friendly too. Finally went to the store front and I'm so glad I did. I ordered yucca fries (obviously), and sweet plantains to go. The owner and head chef made my order just a few minutes before I got there and it was deliciously warm. The next time I go I will ask for extra cilantro mint sauce. We were actually walking to a different restaurant when we passed La Chiva and decided to check it out. The food is amazing! We definitely made the right decision. My husband had mango con leche to drink - WOW - a must try. I had a chicken and rice dish that was very good, but my husband had a dish with pork belly, fried pork rib, chorizo, fried plantains, arepas, red beans and rice and plantain. Amazing! Finally, a Colombian spot. Super friendly staff. Just a heads up, food seems to be cooked to order, so it takes a minute. They have Colombian beverages and juices. Score. My son and I split chicken and chicken jalapeño empanadas, fried yucca, and a picada. All good. My personal taste buds wished the chicken jalapeno empanadas and the aji be spicier. They were still great though. The salsa rosada had a nice flavor. My son's favorite was the sausage. My personal fave is chicharron so I would've loved to have seen a strip (more?) of that!! I think the ribs on the picada was my fave during that visit. Yum. Comfort food all day. I would love to see some breads on the menu like buñuelos and pandebono, but realize that's more AM fare. Really incredible food! We got a ton of food to go while enjoying a couple drinks on Sunday. The mango margarita was tasty and so was the mojito we got. I first fell in love with their empanadas when they had a food truck. My plan was to go to their restaurant and fill up on the empanadas but their menu was too enticing to pass up. I had fried yuca for the first time. They were delicious with the dipping sauce. I highly recommend these for customers with kids who like French fries. We also ordered Arepa with mozzarella as a side. Sobrebarriga Criolla was tender and flavorful. The tropical juices were very fresh. On our way out we saw several other dishes that looked very good. One that stood out was tamales. The service here is wonderful. We asked lots of questions and never did we feel embarrassed. It felt like you were coming to a friend's home to eat. So don't hesitate to visit if you know nothing about Colombian cooking because they will take care of you. My only regret is that I didn't place an extra order of empanadas to take home. read more

I am only giving this place a bad review based on the lady that was taking our order. The food was amazing and 5 stars for sure, however the lady serving us (kinda short, with black hair, wearing an adidas shirt on 6/30) first off she rushed us to order our food saying, "what do you want you need to hurry the kitchen is closing soon" right before we were going to leave more people can in though??? Secondly, my baby was just grabbing one of their menus that was LAMINATED, and started saying "I need that right now or he's going to damage it" like really!?!? He's 7mon! Chill out. Lastly, she was charging extra on an order, and didn't even have the courtesy to ask "do you need the check split" and we spend at least almost 15 min for her to figure out what she did wrong. ‍ SHE gets the one star review solely. I just grabbed a takeout order for lunch and it was delicious. I had the Lomita sandwich which came with yucca fries. It was delicious! I believe this is also what Elizabeth the 2 star reviewer had, and it had tons of flavor! There was a tangy sauce on the sandwich, nice toasted bread and a good serving of meat. The fries were SOOOO good and I loved the two different sauces drizzled over them. The space is very cute and I will definitely come back with my husband for dinner and drinks. read more

After several recommendations from various Colombians in Denver, I finally stopped by this restaurant on Sunday. I've been to Colombia twice before and wanted to get a taste of authentic Colombian food for the first time in Colorado. I arrived a few minutes past 5pm and so did the people who were in line and ordered ahead of me. When it was time for me to order, the woman at the register advised that they closed at 5 and they would not have the ability to serve me since it is closed. Granted it was a few minutes passed 5pm - but this was not the same case for the party of two who ordered just before me. I then explained to her that I took a cab just to visit their restaurant. She gave in and took my order. What was disappointing to see, was the large party that arrived after me that was seated at a table. I really tried to give this restaurant a try but consistency is key. It was awkward for me having to stand for a long period of time for take out like an idiot against the wall.. an idiot who ordered over $26 worth of food. Not to mention a taxi ride for $10 each way. After placing the order I wasn't acknowledged until she gave me the food to go which took a while - well over 30 minutes. The food was ok. I didn't like this experience and I don't think that I'll be back to this restaurant. read more
