Had lunch here on a Sunday and it was fine. Nothing blew us away, so probably wouldn't come back, but it was decent food in a cute atmosphere. Shared the la Chiva picada platter and it was pretty good. More meat heavy than we had expected, but everything was good quality.

Really great experience at La chiva! Saturday night and 7pm and there were a bunch of open tables. Perfect for walk ins. It's a big place too! The service was awesome-- loved the staff that helped us. We had a lovely conversation with a woman who moved here a couple years ago from Cali, Colombia. I went to Colombia about 5 years ago and felt that the food was super authentic, exactly what I had when I was there! We split 3 things between the 2 of us and it was more than enough with leftovers. We ordered the papacon with chorizo-- the sauce is spicy if you're sensitive! I probably wouldn't get this again just because we had chorizo in our other dish ( SO GOOD) and there are so many others apps. We also got the papacones montados with shredded pork & chicharron. I love the savory plantains !! And the chicharron literally melts in your mouth. You get 2 of each. Lastly, we got the Bandeja Montanera main dish. This is a classic Colombian dish where you get a little bit of everything. Shy of the sampler platter, this is what I would recommend to anyone trying Colombian food for the first time! There's literally 9 things on your plate. And don't forget to get a drink (or two)! Only reason I docked a star is because of the environment-- it was sooo hot. Maybe it was just me because I was in a sweater but I was warm.

Such a fun cute spot to try some Colombian flavors! Lots of seating and two adorable patios! Some cocktails and beers, appetizers and main dishes. Happy hour menu too! We had platters to serve our party of 7 and got to taste all the different meats sausages plantains and other things.

Absolutely delicious!! It was quite empty on a Tuesday night, but better for us as service was quick. The portions are great. The pabellon was perfect, lightly seasoned and shredded. And the limonada was so refreshing. The picada was pretty good too, though some of the items weren't seasoned as well but the sauce gave it some flavor.

So freaking cute and delicious!!!! I had never had Colombian food until eating at La Chiva. I went with friends and one is Colombian. She said it is the most authentic she has found in Denver. A lot of the dishes were similar to Costa Rican and Cuban food I have had before. The empanadas, plantains, and shredded beef were amazing!!! I would come back and eat my weight in those three items. I highly recommend experiencing Columbia food at La Chiva.

We headed to La Chiva on a recommendation of a friend. Needed a change of pace from the ho-hum suburban chains. What a unique place. La Chiva hit the mark. Our waiter was very friendly and super helpful. Our meal started with a cocktail, my dinner companion ventured out and tried the mango margarita which was lovely, I just needed wine. Now for dinner. Our friend suggested the sampler platter La Chiva Picada which included a generous assortment of Columbian items including plantains, chicken, potatos, rellena and 2 tasty dipping sauces. Next we ordered the Bistec and the Piscado. I LOVED the fish... a flaky fillet swimming in a creamy coconut broth. The steak was nice served with rice and patacones. Finally, the desserts were calling.... we order the flan the the guava bread pudding. They were delicious. La Chiva was such a fun change of pace. Great place to go with a group that likes to share. Only down side is the mandatory tip.

First time visiting La Chiva, I live right down the street and am so happy we stopped in. Everything was delicious! Generous portion sizes and amazing food. Staff was very friendly and attentive, and I love the ambiance inside the restaurant. Got the empanadas and the sampler for 2. Can't wait to come back and try something else!

Shared dinner here with a friend tonight. We each ordered an empanada as an appetizer. Mine was beef and was really good. We shared the La Chiva Picada (serves 2). I wouldn't order that again. The best part of the plate was the sweet plantains and maybe the yucca. We used all the sauces and could have used more because a lot of it was dry (aoli helped!) or greasy (salsa helped!). Our server was very attentive and the decor and ambience is excellent. I will come back to try something more up my alley like the Pabellon La Chiva or carne asada! The perfect sample patter, Colombian chorizo, yuca, Sweet and savory plantains, rellena, papa criolla, chicken, Chicharron, arepa and salad

The empanadas and atmosphere are great! The sampler was a lot of carbs: yucca, plantain 2 ways, potatoes, arepa with the meats. It was a bit dry and bland. The chipotle beef and cheese were our favorite empanadas. The cocktails were good too. The service was a little slow but the food came fast.

This was a great find! I love latin American cuisine and La Chiva did not disappoint. This cute restaurant is located along Broadway, and what may look like a small establishment, is a restaurant that makes you feel like you're in Colombia. The decor, music and staff are friendly. The seating itself is plentiful, and actually is a two story establishment. I do have to say that they seem understaffed, though friendly, they took a while to get our orders and get the food out. The empanada is one of my favorites here in Denver, I love the corn based shell and the beef is packed with flavor. This gets a solid 5 out of 5. It is pricey for the small portion but it is worth it! The arepa is good but nothing special. My girlfriend opted for more of the vegetarian filling which included avocado, rice, beans and cheese. It's filling and huge but flavor wise lacking. We are not fans of many latin style cheeses due to the eraser/rubbery texture. I opted for the bandeja Montanera which gave me a plate filled with grilled and fried meats. The patacones tasted great and went well with the meats. My favorite was the pork, it was succulent and juicy. Overall it gets a 4 out of 5. Like the arepa, it was also lacking in seasoning. Overall great experience, though some of the dishes can use a little more seasoning, it was a great find!

We made a reservation and we're seated on time. Service was really friendly and got everyone's drink order immediately. I had Mojito and it was awesome. For entree, I shared the La Chiva Picada for two. Waited 30+ minutes for the dish and it was underwhelming. The sauce was delicious but the meat (the fried chicarron and chicken were very dry. I liked the fried yuca and rellena Colombiana (a stuffed sausage. very unique and delicious)

I visited La Chiva tonight for the first time ever to celebrate my friend's birthday and I truly enjoyed it. I was excited to come here because they have tostones (patacones) and Yuca. And it did not disappoint! The restaurant is quaint, inviting and charming. Service was great and food was tasty and very reasonably priced. Mus My waitress was super sweet and the guy that brought the food out had a lovely accent/voice (that was a bonus). I had Arroz con Pollo, leña, patacones and sweet plantains. The rice was delish. We also ordered a Colombian mojito and empanadas. I was going to score this place 4 stars because the empanadas were just ok to me. They lacked just a little more savory flavor and they were brought dripping oil. But really that was probably just a little hiccup at the moment to serve my plate and nothing more than that; so please don't let that keep you from coming here because you would miss out in a good experience. It really deserves the 5 stars. I will be coming back for sure and next time, I'll be going for the Bandeja. Highly recommended so I must try! read more

This is probably the best Columbian food spot in Denver. I have tried a few others and La Chiva is by far the best. Great location as well, if your looking for some good food and a good time this place is amazing. This is definitely my go to spot when I am looking for Columbian food. read more

La Chiva is enjoying their soft opening of their brand-new restaurant this week!! Their grand opening is this Friday, but you don't have to wait until then. My wife and I dropped in on a whim this past Saturday and ordered their arepas and guava bread pudding. The arepas were so super dense with griddle marks and came with salsa. They were filling for a small item. We just polished off the guava bread pudding last night. The fruit was the most notable part. I hope you get out there and support La Chiva! read more

Loved this restaurant. Delicious cuisine and a good variety of quality Colombian food. We had the Chiva sampler platter, beef empanadas, ajiaco soup. All were excellent. Nobody speaks English. I asked what the specials were and I got a blank stare like a dear in headlights. I ordered a margarita on the rocks and got a frozen orange juice. Waited 30 minutes (was the only person in the restaurant) and nobody came to take my food order. Got up and left. I will tell everyone I know no to go here. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! read more

My ode to the La Chiva yuca fries. These yuca fries are the best I have ever had. They are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. They come out of the truck piping hot with a cilantro-mint chutney and some sweet orange sauce. Each bite is delicious and better than the last. I would have finished the whole order myself if I hadn't been totally stuffed. I visited La Chiva at Civic Center Eats on Thursday afternoon. They one of the longest lines which I took as a good sign. The food truck service was friendly and speedy. I hear they have killer paella which I can't wait to try! Can you eat paella with a side of yuca fries? Because I'm absolutely going to. read more

I grew up in Southern California with many friends from all areas of the world. Some of which were from Columbia. I have been searching for /legitimate/ traditional Columbian food for forever it seems. FINALLY FOUND IT! Not only was the food stunning, but one of the owners came out to personally greet us. She even took a moment to tell us about the food we were eating and how it was prepared. This place is one of kind. You must dine here. read more

I love the food here and the restaurant has a great look to it. Very cozy and culturally equivalent to what you would want to feel in a Colombian restaurant. I grew up in south Florida going to a lot of these my whole life and La Chiva is just as good. They have authentic empanadas of different meats and flavors, the picante is tasty to dip the empanadas in. You will not make a mistake when ordering here. read more

I found this place to be a good spot when they initially opened and we've eaten here a few times. Today we stopped by and they've printed a new menu with an outrageous increase in prices. They place opened a couple of months ago and already a 20% increase??? The menu was already overpriced and the portions are very small. A $12 sancocho that only has a chicken leg? I am Colombian but I live in Seattle, so this was my first time at La Chiva. I wish we had a place like this! Their food was so fresh. Highly recommend getting a side of yucca. It was crunchy and soft inside: perfect! That's not always the case when you get yucca at a restaurant. Their sancocho and fish dish were incredible! Well seasoned and well presented. Oh, and I recommend their lemonade and guayaba juice. So fresh, too! Muy bien. read more

The minute I walked in the door the smell of authentic cooking hit my nose...then the welcoming staff greeted us and provided excellent customer service the entire time...as if they were proud of sharing this homemade tasting Columbian deliciousness. The menu offers great choices and I was very pleased with mine. It was a combination of meat, rice, plantains...etc. Portion size was excellent for the price. I will totally return to this cozy restaurant to try more on the menu!!! read more

This place was so good. We had the dish for two that had all of the meats... Chicharones, sausage, ribs, hot dogs, arepas, plantains, papas and more. The waitress was wonderful and explained things to us. We had not of questions. There was no wait. Also the mango margarita was excellent and tastes like fresh mango I would recommend this place to anyone and can't wait to go back. read more

Super great local neighborhood spot for some authentic, wholesome food. We started with the fried yuca with the tasty dipping sauce. I got the arroz con pollo with fried plantains and arepa. It was super filling and solid quality. The only thing that would elevate this to 5 stars is table service; when large groups come in, the order counter gets a bit jammed. Other than that, a great cozy spot and awesome owners! read more

Dinned there after picking up family for Thanksgiving from the airport. The atmosphere has beautiful afro-colombian murals, reminiscing wood framed stock photos of current Colombia, traditional capesino- farmer hats, comfy dinning chairs, etc... Lovely and hand picked. The food was truly authentic. Handmade Arepas, fresh chicharron, mom's recipe frijoles- red beans, cozy yet yummy sancocho reminiscent of my aunt's. A true South American gem in the heart of Denver. read more

food was okay, service was BAD! We were a big party and the waiter didn't seem like he wanted to deal with the order, it took him one hour to get the order, waiter was too close, touching some of us on the on the shoulder instead of just talking to us. He never came back asking to refill our drinks, it took him more than 15 minutes to bring forks to the table we had to go downstairs to ask him to bring them again, overall very unprofessional service. read more

Came here on a Sat night. Our table was total 6 of us. We asked for separate checks at the beginning when we started ordering. The server didn't say a word until we paid. She said because it's 6 people so they charge the tips upfront. Ok. We thought it was 15-18%, but NO, they CHARGED 20% up front for each of our ticket. Be careful about the tips here, I feel like they just scammed us. Because it was scan menus and it didn't mention anything on that menu so how we supposed to know. read more

Our food truck opened in the summer of 2014, and our restaurant on S Broadway opened in June 2017.

Meet the Business Owner: Jorge A.

Chef Jorge is the owner and head chef of both the La Chiva food truck and restaurant. His wife, Carmen, and he began the business to bring quality Colombian food to Denver. Together they continue to serve authentic recipes in the Denver metro area!

This Argentinian Empanadas restaurant was started by two brothers who didn't see their homeland empanadas in Denver so started their own just when Covid hit and survived, a testament to how good they are. The place is not very big with less than a dozen tables, but it seems the bulk of their business is to-go anyway.

Tried La Chiva Colombian Cuisine and overall had a really good experience! Just a heads up, there's no dedicated parking lot since it's right off Broadway, so you'll need to find street parking. I actually found parking literally right in front, so it wasn't bad at all. There's also super cute outdoor seating. When you walk in, there's a sign saying an 18% service fee is included, so just keep that in mind before ordering. I ordered the empanadas: one steak, one chicken jalapeño, and one chicken and they were all SO good. Fresh meat, flavorful, and they came out super fast. Definitely recommend trying them. One thing that threw me off a little was the menu situation with the bandeja paisa. Usually bandeja paisa comes with carne asada/grilled steak, but here they have a version called bandeja montañera that comes with ground beef instead. Personally, that was a little disappointing because I was really looking forward to a more traditional bandeja paisa. As for service, the woman taking our order wasn't rude or anything, just a bit serious and not super warm/friendly. But the lady bringing out the food was SO sweet every single time she came by. She honestly balanced out the experience because she was incredibly kind. Overall, the food was definitely the highlight and I'd still come back to try more dishes! read more

So we tried the food from the food truck a couple of years ago when they were outside a local brewery. The owner was awesome, the food was great, we were pleasantly surprised since they were fairly new. We went back for 2nds and 3rds. So something was good. I see they have opened a restaurant. Love this place! Stopped in for lunch, the owner was there to greet us and explain the menu. I had the chicken arepas, delicious with an avacado spread! Boyfriend had the chicken tamal special, also great. We finished with coconut flan, perfect.
