We had dinner here last night with our kids and some friends (party of 8), and it was our first time visiting. Even though the restaurant is small and busy, we were seated right away, which was a great start. Our waiter Washington, was fantastic, friendly, attentive, and made our whole experience even better. The atmosphere was perfect too. They had music playing at just the right volume and a big TV showing the live Dodger game, which the kids loved. We started with chips and salsa. The salsa had the perfect level of spice for everyone at the table. The kids ordered horchatas and were excited about the unlimited refills (something you don't always see at other restaurants!). The drinks for the adults were just as impressive. My wife's watermelon margarita on the rocks was perfectly made. It was not overly sweet or syrupy like at some places. Our friends had the "El Jefe" margaritas, and they definitely didn't skimp on the tequila! For dinner, everything was a hit. The kids loved their meals. Albóndigas soup, shrimp tacos, and street tacos--all served with rice and beans. The adult dishes were just as good. The carne asada arrachera was cooked perfectly, the chile verde was full of flavor, and my chicken mole was delicious with a great balance of spicy and sweet without being overwhelming. The portions were very generous, and everything came with rice, beans, and both corn and flour tortillas. The only small thing I would've preferred differently was the chicken in my mole. I personally would've liked a leg and thigh instead of sliced chicken breast but the dish was still very good overall. What really stood out was the hospitality. At the end of the meal, Washington offered us "holy water"-house tequila shots on the house--and it wasn't cheap tequila either! Then after the bill came, he surprised us again with another round of "holy water". That level of generosity and care really impressed us. We also learned that the restaurant has been there 20+ years and is family-run by him and his siblings, which made the experience feel even more personal. You can tell they have a loyal customer base--one couple even said, "See you tomorrow Washington!" The only feedback we'd offer (coming from a customer service background) is that we noticed a few guests waiting at the entrance without being greeted, and one couple actually left the restaurant. A simple "Welcome, we'll be right with you" would go a long way. That said, it didn't take away from our experience. Overall, amazing food, great service, generous portions, and a welcoming family atmosphere. We will definitely be back to try more of their menu! read more

Seated quickly and server was "there" to take as much of our order as we were ready to give. Daughter got steak fajitas and they were outstanding, The accompanying rice and beans were "Authentic" the rice had taste and character. Since day one this place has always been great. Their service is always so welcoming and they treat you like family. The owner is great, he even sang happy birthday to me once and gave us free shots. My favorite go to is the Mole Oaxaqueño with a side of their house made Guacamole. I have never been to a restaurant that has had a Guacamole as good as theirs. read more

We came here for dinner on a Friday night. There was a short wait for a bother which we preferred. Once sat we were brought complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa tasted jar but it was filling while our entree came out. We ordered surf and turf fajitas to share since we had a late lunch. The meat was good but there was not much veggies in the fajitas. My son ordered the chicken nuggets. It was nothing special but it came with an ice cream dessert. I really enjoyed La Casita Olvera! So much fun! Super family friendly and the waitress we had on this specific visit was really cool and kind. She welcomed us with the warmest greeting, "..welcome to the happiest place in Whittier." It's a fun atmosphere and the food is really warm, fresh and tasty. I had the shrimp cocktail and it was absolutely delicious. I felt like I was in Mexico. The street tacos were already eaten by the time I looked up from my shrimp cocktail so I wasn't able to take a picture, as were the carne asada fajitas. I am guessing that's a good sign. Complimentary chips and salsa were the cherry on top. Highlight of the meal was the table side guacamole made to your liking (spicy vs. mild). We can't wait to visit again. Warm food and warm atmosphere make for a wonderful outing for the family. Four stars for this local gem! read more

This is our taco Tuesday place. We love it. We love the taco bar. We love the handmade tortillas. We love the drinks, but... Last Tuesday when we went, we saw the tortilla lady pulling tortilla shells out of a bag. They were horrible. She hardly put any meat in the tacos the chips and salsa seemed different to us than they have been needless to say we were all disappointed and we are going to look for another taco Tuesday Spot. Decided to try this place again for breakfast. Sadly, we were disappointed. They only serve their brunch on Sundays. You cannot order off of the menu. The only thing that was hot were the menudo and pozole. All other items were lukewarm. They make omelettes to order, and tacos. The Carne Asada was very chewy and had a very odd flavor to it. Service was slow. It was very quiet, not a lot of people inside. Also thought that for what was offered was overpriced at $27.99 per person. I've been coming here for years, but unfortunately, this recent experience has left such a poor impression that I feel compelled to leave a 1-star review. We arrived and signed in on the waiting list for two people--a scrap of paper near the entrance that no one seemed to be monitoring. After waiting about 7-10 minutes, another party of three came in, signed themselves in, and waited behind us. Roughly ten minutes later, the man from that group walked inside, and shortly after, he returned to bring in the rest of his party. Curious, since we'd arrived before them, I went in to check on the status of our table. I was told by a gentleman that yes, they were still going by the list and asked if we had written our names down. When I confirmed we had, he replied, "Oh, the previous party said they were you. Well, you're next." and proceeded to walk away. No apology. No acknowledgment of the mix-up. No effort to correct it. It was handled with complete indifference, which was disappointing to say the least. If you're looking for great food and service, I'd recommend Casa Adelita's in La Habra instead--consistently better service and better food. read more

I came by to try out some breakfast. When I first arrived I was greeted and seated immediately. Upon arriving I noticed I had forgotten my wallet, but it was not a problem because the host told me they accept Apple Pay! Chips and salsa were complimentary. I ordered one cafe de olla and red chilaquiles. The cafe de olla was declicious! The red chilaquiles were also great, they came with rice beans and eggs. The chilaquiles are spicer than other restaurants I have been to which I enjoyed. The salsa had a very good and flavorful taste. I also saw that the chilaquiles were cut in smaller pieces, so I think they fry their tortillas in house rather than use pre made chips (appreciated!) Great food and excellent service! Their table side guacamole is outstanding. If you go to their Sunday brunch, don't skip the Mexican Caesar salad with homemade cilantro dressing - it's fabulous! The salad is on the regular menu, so you can add that to your meal and you won't be sorry! And they offer a burrito wrap with that salad + chicken on the regular menu yum! We went on taco Tuesday. We went at 5pm because we didn't know what time Taco Tuesday started but we learned it starts at 4pm. When we went there were only a couple other people there but it started filling up about 5:30 and by 6pm there was a wait. The staff who greeted us were very nice but once it started to get busy it was hard to get our waiter's attention for more drinks and tacos. We loved the Taco bar - you order the number of tacos you want from your waiter and they bring you a piece of paper you bring up to the bar. You can pick whichever meats you want - I did fish, al pastor, and asada and they were all delicious and they put a great amount of meat on each. You get to dress up your tacos however you like them which was a huge plus for our group since we all like our tacos very different. The margaritas were good but very very sweet. I'd love to see a Mangonada option. The asada super nachos were DELICIOUS! Definite must have. I would come back on a Tuesday as long as I have plenty of time. Those who know me know I love me some Mexican food and lately been disappointed with food/drinks I've had at "authentic" Mexican restaurants, making me almost wanting to give up on Mexican food lol. Well La Casita Olvera has restored my hope lol. Simply saying the food, drinks, and service at this family owned restaurant was amazing isn't enough. We dined on Taco Tuesday, so of course we took advantage of the taco special- $3 tacos. Our server, Washington, explained how it worked. We let him know how many tacos we want and then go to the taco station/cart. At the taco station, you are given your taco and then you add all the fixings you want. The tortillas are handmade, which Washington let us know was his aunt who was making the tortillas and serving at the taco station. The tortillas were so soft and fresh! I had fried fresh tacos and a potato taco and added all the fixings. We ordered table side guacamole and it was made to perfection! My husband and I ordered a skinny cucumber margarita. When I tell you this was one of the best skinny cucumber margaritas I have had in a really long time from an "authentic" Mexican restaurant, man oh man. It was so good that I ordered another one. And Washington was kind enough to give my husband and I another margarita to share on the house. Don't let this hole in a wall, strip mall Mexican restaurant fool you. I really wanted to like this place, but just didn't. We came on a random weekday and the parking was super easy. We walked in and we're seated immediately. It was crazy hot and humid that day, so to start I ordered a glass of ice water. The waiter tried to get me to order a margarita, and then tried up sell me on three different types of water that weren't actually just water. When I said I just wanted basic ice water, he said was going to bring me tap water from Mexico, his joke was not appreciated. I ordered the chicken mole enchiladas and ended up with the chicken mole plate, which coincidentally costs $4-$5 more. I didn't say anything about the error, but after the water thing, I really wondered if this was accidental or intentional. I also ordered a hard shell beef taco. Overall the food was good, but I felt like the prices were high for what they offered. The service was also extremely slow on a day that wasn't busy, and there was an issue with flies. I shouldn't have had to keep shooing flies away in an indoor setting. In the future, if someone else reallllly wanted to eat here I'd be fine with it, but this isn't anywhere I'd rush back to. read more

I found this place on Yelp while we're in the Whittier area on Saturday. We actually have driven by this place 100s of times and never knew it was there. We met a friend there who lives in the Area and he had never been there either. We tried the Azteca breakfast which was eggs covered in their Mole Sauce with beans and tortillas. Me and friend had the chicken mole and carne asada burrito covered in mole sauce and rice and beans on the side I'm a mole critic because my grandma made the best mole and Mexican food and NO One will ever compare. But this dark mole was really good and carne asada and food was good. The place is kinda small and dated but service was good Prices are comparable to other Mexican restaurants. Almost seemed rushed to get it ready for our tacos. The carnitas were good and tender. The condiment bar was fresh, and the condiments and veggies tasted good. The tortillas and asada were the only off thing. Again, could have been that we came in 30 mins before closing. But not the consistency you want. They were showing the dodger game, and ambiance was good. Orange bang was fresh and tasted good. The girl that greeted us was very helpful, and working super hard. The gentleman that took our order, could have told us they didn't have any handmade tortillas left. The service was good overall he checked up on us like 3 times.
