This place is a nice option when you're in Uptown Whittier looking for a place to eat. The salsa was spicy and fresh. The nachos and veggie fajitas were just how I like it. The refried beans and rice tasted good and that is one of my requirements for authentic Mexican cuisine. We lucked out because Golden Road Brewing was there promoting their Mango Cart wheat ale. It was delicious. There is a large cantina in the back with many big screens TVs. The front of the restaurant was quieter but also very nice. I'm basing my review off the flautas I ordered. Since I can remember, whenever I order flautas from Mexican restaurant, they're always topped with a MOUNTAIN of lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, tons of cheese, guac and salsa. Well I received the flautas (which were very tasty) but they were BALD. There was about one tablespoon worth of guacamole on the side. And a tiny little pinch of lettuce. I immediately asked the waitress if it was missing the toppings, and she said "yes it's missing sour cream." She left and came back and said there was no more sour cream. A Mexican restaurant without sour cream? Oh! really wish I would've known that before ordering because, like I said, I love my flautas drenched in toppings. I would've ordered something else had I known there was no sour cream. I requested some extra guacamole to make up for the lack of sour cream. With guacamole and the salsa that comes with chips, it still tasted pretty good but my heart was wishing I had sour cream and tons of cheese. It was definitely a tasty meal but was a HUGE miss on the lack of toppings, which is what I crave when I order flautas. I've never seen flautas look so sad and lonely. The rice and beans were okay. Not too bad not too good. Just ok. It's a shame the restaurant is super beautiful but the food doesn't really seem authentic. read more

Well my friend and I went to have dinner Here and we decided to have albóndigas Soup. First I've never been to a restaurant when you order Albóndigas, Rice is always included with the meal. But... that wasn't the case we asked about rice they said they charged $1.75 for each small bowl of rice. Really!!! We declined . Automatically you get onions, cilantro and lemon to garnish the soup. Again we had to ask. Tortillas were included. Annoying to say the least. We had to ask for everything. Services was a 4 food 3 Meatballs were not freshly made. It's like cooked premade meatballs, and put it in hot broth with the piece of carrot potato, and a rib of salary. Nothing else. Disappointing on the whole experience. Came in walking the strip here on Greenleaf old town Whittier and stumbled across this restaurant gem called Super Mex. I ordered to drink a El Cantarito. It's so delicious it also has a very smooth taste to it not overpowering flavors and the tequila used for this is Teremana. I'll be honest this drink will definitely creep up on you if you have many to follow based on how smooth and refreshing this blend is. The music and atmosphere is perfect for nightlife and just time to hang with friends. The food is delicious and our service here is very attractive. Must try!!! I'm all about supporting local businesses but I will not be going back. I ordered a bean tostada. Pretty basic and hard to fail at. The lettuce was wet and soggy. The pre-shredded cheese had a really off-putting smell. My friend had a carne asada burrito. The tortilla was old and chewy. Also the meat was tough and tasteless. And the worse offense? They did not offer a spicy salsa. The only salsa available was the bland slightly sweet house version. read more

I was driving home after a long stressful day and had the craving for some fajitas and decided to stop by Super Mex. This was a second chance visit for this place since the first dine in experience was 5/10, but I did enjoy the fajitas. Soon as I walked in through the take out door, it seemed really quiet and nobody was at the register. I figured they must be busy in the back. After a couple minutes I did start contemplating on leaving when an employee appeared to take my order. (The employee was polite and therefore, I did leave a cash tip) My order. *Chicken and steak fajitas. *An extra order of flower tortillas because when I asked, I was told my meal only came with 3 tortillas. *A plain beef tamale which I specifically told the employee, no sauce no cheese. When I got home and began unpacking our dinner I first realize that the plain tamale I ordered had both cheese and sauce. Next, I wasn't given my extra order of tortillas, which I did pay for. Then I'm diving through the already empty bag and none of the condiments that typically come with the order were included so no salsa, no guacamole, no pickled onions. Nada... I enjoyed the option of having a wheat tortilla on my burrito. I thought the horchata was very good. I felt that the bar was too warm, almost as if they didn't have the AC on. Terrible experience here. I was excited to have a closer supermex other than traveling out to Lakewood. It's uptown Whittier, good shops and little bars to walk around afterwards. Went in and order the combination plate 33. Taquitos seemed to lack seasoning. We ordered the OG margarita. It was not bus whatsoever in the cantina/bar area, so we didn't understand why our drinks took so long to be made. Until we saw it with our own eyes. The bartender didn't seem to know what to do. Her measurements were odd, even while serving shots to some patrons sitting at the bar top. When she got to making our drinks, I just had a bad feeling on how it was going to taste. In between making the drinks she stopped to pull out her phone and look something up. I don't know if she was looking up HOW to make an OG margarita? It she still had her gloves on and was showing something to another waiter that was just STANDING there the entire night. Was he on break? Was he just lazy? It seemed as tho he was just lazy. Holding up the counter top. Once she was done showing him the phone, she went back to making our drinks, didn't swap gloves or at least rinse her hand. She moved hair away from her face as well, no sense of hygiene at all behind the bar. Once the drinks came to us, we returned them immediately and asked for them to be taken off the bill. The shrimp ceviche was bland, I had to ask for lemon and I added salsa and salt to get taise good. The rice was mushy and not like your other locations,, bad. The chilaquiles needs major work also... Came to Super Mex for lunch on weekday for the first time. They have a good extensive menu. I ordered chile relleno & crispy shredded beef taco à la cart. We were both completely impressed by the food, the service, the ambiance - you name it...Mama Canela delivered, and then some! It's not in my neighborhood but after telling my husband all about it, we couldn't wait and came back just 4 days later. We came on a Saturday night after a comedy session and we were happy to learn that they were still open, the rear bar area. . I was craving a soup. I was lucky to find out that they were serving Pozole that was not on the menu. So I ordered it. My husband ordered the grilled chicken plate from the 'lighter' menu. The condiments & red chile oil sauce made the pozole taste exceptional. Definitely spicy so tread carefully. Jorge was our server. We've come prior times and he's always been our server. We arrived for lunch today and I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and there was no soap. We told the waitress and she said she'd take care of it, but as we waited for our food, we saw the cook come out of the kitchen and go into the bathroom and he came out and and didn't go back in with soap. We were getting pretty nervous because I've gotten food poisoning before from cooks that don't wash their hands with soap. We made our meal and I went to the bathroom again still no soap. I tracked down who appeared to be the manager and told him and I sure hope he put soap in the bathroom. There's two soap dispensers and then a hand pump and all three were empty so beware it's very easy to get food poisoning when there's no soap in the bathroom and it's the one that the cooks use. read more

Ordered the appetizer nachos with carne asada added! 3/10 it was way too greasy on the bottom of the plate, the meat to ratio + beans was off! Pretty dry nachos & wasn't too fond of the chopped tomatoes & cooked onions in between the nacho layer. Not a very tasty plate of nachos or presentation. We ordered the chicken bowl and two tacos, enchilada plate. The shredded chicken in the chicken bowl had a weird taste. Did not like it at all. Our server came over to ask how our food was and I told her I didn't like the chicken bowl. She told us the chicken was cooked in a juice and I'm not sure what kind of juice but it did not taste good. She was very nice and quickly asked if she could get me something else. I ordered two cheese enchiladas. They were good. My husband said his plate was good. The tostadas with salsa they bring are very tasty so that was a plus. We did try their $5.00 margaritas, not good at all. Very obvious they were pre-made. I guess you get what you pay for. My husband then tried the Cadillac Margarita. It was ok. He also tried a beer. Again, just ok. Not chilled. Bar area is very nice and the vibe seems to be great but honestly the food and drinks were not worth trying again. Food was amazing! The man who sat us was a little rude, but everyone else was very nice. The carnitas were a little salty and a bit dry. Still very good mixed with the rice and beans. The steak in the fajitas was cooked and seasoned great. The "pickled onions" on the other hand were not good. The burrito was big and full. All was worth the price. The restaurant was empty in the front. The bar area had a few more people. It was clean. No dirty tables or anything on the floor. Its a nice restaurant.
