Cantina bar Happy Hour and chips and salsa.

Came in walking the strip here on Greenleaf old town Whittier and stumbled across this restaurant gem called Super Mex. I ordered to drink a El Cantarito. It's so delicious it also has a very smooth taste to it not overpowering flavors and the tequila used for this is Teremana. I'll be honest this drink will definitely creep up on you if you have many to follow based on how smooth and refreshing this blend is. The music and atmosphere is perfect for nightlife and just time to hang with friends. The food is delicious and our service here is very attractive. Must try!!! I also had the OG Cadillac Margarita and it was very well made. Must try for a night with family and friends.

Very well put Mexican restaurant. Food was amazing ! The cantarito drink at the Cantina was amazing !! Margarita the best server, very helpful and friendly ask for her ;)

super mex burrito had salad in it. It was only supposed to be lettuce. Just an fyi in case anyone is allergic to carrots or red cabbage.

The food was ok, but nothing great. The meat was dry. My friend had a salad with her meal and it was not fresh. It came out with red edges. It was old. The manager did come and replace her salad. When I got home and heat up my leftovers, I realized that they had used salad in my burrito. It was only supposed to be lettuce. I hate red cabbage. I won't be returning because all of our meals were not that great for the price we paid.

The staff were super friendly and willing to assist. They were on point with 1-1 service. The food was buffet style. All you can eat. The banquet space was perfect for a special occasion. Plenty of room with round tables. They have a screen to show presentation.

I ordered the Albondiga soup, but was grossed out, did not eat any of it, good thing I always inspect my food before eating, or I'd be eating Albondiga with flies. Grooosss ! This makes me really think how their food safety procedures and protocols really are on the kitchen. Wondering what other food they serve with bugs. And wondering how clean their kitchen really is.

If you're looking for a great spot that seamlessly blends warm hospitality, delectable cuisine, and a casual but lively ambiance with plenty of TV monitors , look no further than Super Mex. We came for Friday night dinner and took in the Dodger game, and we weren't disappointed. The staff were warm, welcoming, and attentive that set the tone for a great dinning experience. This was our first time here and the staff went over the menu, which added another layer of enjoyment to our dinning experience. The waitress brought us complimentary chips and salsa that were a great start. Now let's talk about the heart and soul of Super Mex, the food. The menu boasts of an array of classic Mexican cuisine that transported our tastebuds to various levels. Each dish we ordered was a culinary masterpiece with a perfect blend of flavors and textures that showcased management's commitment to quality and authenticity. In conclusion, Super Mex goes beyond just being a restaurant but an experience. It succeeded our expectations not only by satisfying our palates but created a long lasting impression of an amazing dinning experience. The spot is definitely a Chef driven culinary destination that has encouraged return visits. We'll be back with family and friends!!

Surprised and a bit bewildered.....?‍ Going to one of my go to's as I have been, for the very first time, it's like, I was feeling ghosted by every server....oh well. It is that month (October) I mean, the bartender (Margarita) at least showed interested and was taking my order but felt at the end, all fell short.... ALL in all, a shout goes out to Oscar (manager), for getting my table reserved...! Ty Oscar! Tonight was a night of short handed service at Super Mex....hope tomorrow will be a change... Have a good evening everyone...

I was driving home after a long stressful day and had the craving for some fajitas and decided to stop by Super Mex. This was a second chance visit for this place since the first dine in experience was 5/10, but I did enjoy the fajitas. Soon as I walked in through the take out door, it seemed really quiet and nobody was at the register. I figured they must be busy in the back. After a couple minutes I did start contemplating on leaving when an employee appeared to take my order. (The employee was polite and therefore, I did leave a cash tip) My order. *Chicken and steak fajitas. *An extra order of flower tortillas because when I asked, I was told my meal only came with 3 tortillas. *A plain beef tamale which I specifically told the employee, no sauce no cheese. When I got home and began unpacking our dinner I first realize that the plain tamale I ordered had both cheese and sauce. Next, I wasn't given my extra order of tortillas, which I did pay for. Then I'm diving through the already empty bag and none of the condiments that typically come with the order were included so no salsa, no guacamole, no pickled onions. Nada... I will not be giving this place a third chance.

The idea was to enjoy my coffee while getting organized--paying bills, planning calendar events, and having the opportunity to focus without any distractions from my usual surroundings. In search of the perfect spot, I turned to Yelp, a reliable resource for uncovering hidden gems nearby. Upon stepping into the coffee shop, I was immediately greeted with warm hospitality, setting the tone for a delightful experience. The ambiance of the place was truly captivating--it was bright and welcoming, infused with an aesthetic charm that instantly put me at ease. I couldn't help but be intrigued by the design elements throughout the shop, which added an inviting touch to its overall atmosphere. Before I settled in, I asked the staff if I could snap a few photos to capture the essence of this delightful space. They graciously welcomed my request, and I was shown to my table, which, quite uniquely, was designated by a number--a small detail that I found charming. As I browsed the menu, I encountered a small conundrum: I wasn't entirely sure what to order. I wanted to break the mold and try something out of the ordinary. My curiosity was piqued by their exclusive offering of Café de la Olla--a traditional hot drink that piqued my interest right away. I ultimately settled on a hearty plate that included rice, beans, and enticing potato tostones, accompanied by two beautifully cooked sunny-side-up eggs. As I waited for my order, I noticed the café was filled with the sweet sounds of old-school music from the '60s and '70s, which only enhanced the cozy ambiance while I sipped my drink. Now, let's talk about the food! I must say, I rated the café itself a solid 4 out of 5 for its overall charm, while the rice earned a respectable 4 out of 5. The beans were rich in flavor and received a fair 3.9 out of 5. The potato tostones, delicately bathed in a savory red sauce, stood out with an impressive score of 4.3 out of 5--these are a must-try if you visit! And as for the sunny-side-up eggs, they were good, but hey, eggs are eggs, right? Overall, the entire experience was quite enjoyable, from the delightful food to the warm atmosphere. A special shout-out goes to Ana, whose exceptional customer service made my visit even more memorable. The combination of fantastic service, inviting aesthetics, and satisfying food truly made for a perfect morning retreat. I can't recommend this spot enough for anyone looking for a relaxing place to unwind and focus on what matters.

It was a cold day and we were hungry so we got the large Cocido De Res and the Costello De Puerco with a Pina agua Fresca. Cocido De Res - Very good, like my grandma used to make. I don't care for corn tortillas but I liked them a lot here! Costello De Puerco - Great, delicious salsa verde. The chips went well with the beans but it was overall a great dish with a nice big portion. Pina Agua Fresca - They give you a huge cup, they even put the leftover in a to go cup and it lasted all day! It was delicious and fresh. Overall it was a solid 4/5, would come back if we're in the area and in the mood for Mexican food.

Even though the restaurant is small and busy, we were seated right away, which was a great start. Our waiter Washington, was fantastic, friendly, attentive, and made our whole experience even better. The atmosphere was perfect too. They had music playing at just the right volume and a big TV showing the live Dodger game, which the kids loved. We started with chips and salsa. The salsa had the perfect level of spice for everyone at the table. The kids ordered horchatas and were excited about the unlimited refills (something you don't always see at other restaurants!). The drinks for the adults were just as impressive. My wife's watermelon margarita on the rocks was perfectly made. It was not overly sweet or syrupy like at some places. Our friends had the "El Jefe" margaritas, and they definitely didn't skimp on the tequila! For dinner, everything was a hit. The kids loved their meals. Albóndigas soup, shrimp tacos, and street tacos--all served with rice and beans. The adult dishes were just as good. The carne asada arrachera was cooked perfectly, the chile verde was full of flavor, and my chicken mole was delicious with a great balance of spicy and sweet without being overwhelming. The portions were very generous, and everything came with rice, beans, and both corn and flour tortillas. The only small thing I would've preferred differently was the chicken in my mole. I personally would've liked a leg and thigh instead of sliced chicken breast but the dish was still very good overall. What really stood out was the hospitality. At the end of the meal, Washington offered us "holy water"-house tequila shots on the house--and it wasn't cheap tequila either! Then after the bill came, he surprised us again with another round of "holy water". That level of generosity and care really impressed us. We also learned that the restaurant has been there 20+ years and is family-run by him and his siblings, which made the experience feel even more personal. You can tell they have a loyal customer base--one couple even said, "See you tomorrow Washington!" The only feedback we'd offer (coming from a customer service background) is that we noticed a few guests waiting at the entrance without being greeted, and one couple actually left the restaurant. A simple "Welcome, we'll be right with you" would go a long way. That said, it didn't take away from our experience. Overall, amazing food, great service, generous portions, and a welcoming family atmosphere. We will definitely be back to try more of their menu!

I went on a taco run yesterday to try to find the best taco in Whittier…read more Started off the run with a keto taco mixed with asada and al pastor and then a regular tripa taco. Keto taco - toasted/grilled cheese instead of a regular tortilla - needed to be done a little more on one side as the cheese wasn't quite toasty enough to stay in place to slightly resemble the shape of a taco. Bit hard to eat, covered my hands in grease. Asada tastes almost boiled, and this being my 2nd or 3rd time getting the Asada here, it consistently tastes like it was boiled and not grilled. Unsure of meat quality or preparation, but there are no grill marks and it's a bit chewy. Same with the al pastor. Tripa taco was bizarre. Strips of flat skin instead of the usual roundish, cylindrical shape of tripa (intestine). Usually a saltier, fattier meat than asada, which is my preference but the one here was lacking in flavor and the texture threw me off a bit. Tripa can be chewy - unless requested extra done, which is how I normally order it - but there was no saving this tripa. I think it needs to be sliced differently, the cuts made it inedible. Brother shared some of his chorizo taco and it was the better of the bunch. Red chorizo, TJ style, although it was also lacking a teeny bit in flavor... onions and cilantro to the rescue! Still, mediocre. Salsas were ok, nothing out of the ordinary. Don't think the tortillas were homemade. Service was fine, cashier takes your order, dude at the counter was chill and had a friendly attitude. Seating was limited. Mostly bar style seating but the majority was in front of a window and it had so much heat trapped from the glass that it was kind of uncomfortable. Other seats are too close to the bathroom. Good for a quick bite or just pick-up orders. Wouldn't plan a sit down/dine-in visit. Parking is scarce and has really small spots, wouldn't come if you're driving a pick-up truck or anything like that. Food was reasonably priced, which is good, however; the food was lacking so I would not return.

We ordered all kinds of food and everything we had was good. The restaurant is clean and has a cool vibe, not super Instagramable but not bad. We also got two margaritas they were good and strong! A weekend brunch with friends brought me to Madre's Whittier, where the menu offered plenty of tempting options--and a few unexpected lessons about ordering seafood. I tried the Ensenada Omelet, loaded with shrimp, salmon, crab, and octopus. Now, I'm a seafood lover, but octopus and I aren't exactly close friends. I asked if it could be removed, but since the seafood mix is pre-made, the octopus had already RSVP'd to the party. The omelet was good, topped with a creamy sauce, but not something I'd order again. The crab appeared to be imitation crab, and while everything was prepared well, it just wasn't a standout for me. The real star? The strawberry pancakes. Delicious! Next time, I'd order those with a side of eggs and call it a win. I also sampled the chilaquiles, and now that's a dish I'd come back for. The Tiramisu Latte was another favorite--not overly sweet and packed with that classic tiramisu flavor I love. A special shoutout to our waitress, Annie, who was attentive, friendly, and made our brunch experience even better. My Verdict: Skip the Ensenada Omelet and build your brunch around the stars of the menu instead. The strawberry pancakes are the must-order item, the chilaquiles are a strong savory choice, and the Tiramisu Latte ties everything together. If you order wisely, Madre's delivers a brunch worth coming back for.
