Mole Enchilada! Super good!
Ernesto S.

First time visiting Veracruz family restaurant and was really impressed. The neighborhood family owned Mexican type of restaurant that I was looking for. Home-cooked meals, fresh chips and salsa. Service was great a true local neighborhood jam. Definitely will be coming back and highly recommend you give them a try if you have never been. Has that old school Mexican restaurant ambiance that I grew up with!

I was so hungry forgot to take a pic when I got my dish. This is the chili relleno.

Walked in at about 2:45pm on a Wednesday and not one customer in sight. Perfect, just the way I like it. I enjoy going to places during non peak hours. We were sat right in front of there silverware rolling table, right behind that was their bus tubs FULL of dirty dishes from their lunch rush and the restrooms. Again, we were the only people in there. Why would you seat us in that spot? Our server didn't look happy to see us at all. Not a "hi", a "hello", nothing. Just got two menus and plopped them down. He brought chips n salsa. The chips were the broken up ones, but they were hot and good. He then said, "anything to drink?" Finally, he spoke! He then comes back 12min later to get our order. He must've been eating his lunch, because we were in full convo at this time, because we didn't know if he was coming back to get our order. We eat at this establishment probably 9 times a year. It used to be more, but service lacks. I enjoy ordering from them Togo. Ok, back to topic, he brings out the order pretty quickly and the food is piping hot and he brings more chips, they were not broken up this time. Boy oh boy, was the food on point!! So yummy! Hubs got the #39- shredded beef chimichanga. It is huge and amazing. He's been ordering this item since he was in high school. I had the shredded beef taco, cheese enchilada and chili relleno w/ R&B (rice n beans) I don't know my number, because I order different combos all the time. Those three items sling with the shredded beef tamale and shredded beef enchilada are amazing!! The chimichanga comes with sour cream and guacamole, but he gets it on the side, because he doesn't ever eat it all and it wouldn't be appealing to the eye the next day in the box or if you were to micro it with that stuff on it. It's about $13.65, if you want R&B with it it's like $5 more, so since he never finishes it I give him some of my R&B if he wants some. Our server NEVER came back to check on us. Not a once! Maybe, because a family of 3 came in and a single man by himself. Idk. After we sat there for about 10min done, we finally flagged him down for 2 boxes. He brought the check, that was the fastest I seen him move, we paid, he then all of a sudden started to speak to us. He was very friendly and asked if we needed a bag. Maybe he as just hangry at the time we came in. He was nice, with the little interaction we had and not rude. The food was delish and we will def go back. The restroom was clean it's just old. Again, we sat right by the restrooms, the sidework table and the dirty dishes. I just wish the dirty dishes with half eaten food would've been completely of view. Didn't enjoy seeing that before I had eaten. There is plenty of parking, the place is old school looking and outdated, but it's homey and comfy cozy. It's a homemade meal. We just love it!

Had a great family dinner here. Now I know why they've been around since the 70s.... authentic family recipes that come together in taste, textures and presentation. The menu has so much to chose from and so far we have enjoyed our picks. Service was friendly and good. We'll be back to work thru menu!

Recently move to the area and was looking for a good Mexican restaurant to enjoy good food and good margaritas. When we first arrived the first thing I noticed was it was very dark inside and tables felt tight together. I believe it was the bar area didn't even have lights on. There is tons of choices on the menu I opted for my favorite chile relleno, taco, and rice and bean. The food was good, hot, and you could tell homemade. The only thing I didn't care for was the seeds were not removed from the chili (didn't stop me from enjoying it). As far as the margarita it was bad. For $10.00 it was so sweet and had the color of green Gatorade. Next time I'll probably do take out as the food was good. Hats off to the servers they were nice and very attentive.

This was beef and shrimp fajita only 3 shrimps and a tail shell for over $50 along with a plate of rice n beans

We came here because my cousin DJSP was the featured DJ this Sunday, so I did my Yelp research and to be honest, I didn't know what to expect because the most recent reviews were a couple of months old, no recent food photos and menu photos were outdated. However we were going either way because it was also our featured DJ's birthday. We made reservations but that was difficult too as we called for several days until someone actually answered the phone. I was a little surprised because the food we ordered were all pretty tasty, decent portions, and reasonably priced. The service was ok. Orders took a little time to arrive, but they made sure we had chips and salsa and with a full crowd and a limited number of wait staff, they made sure we were still being attended too. It is very loud here with a full restaurant of diners, the live DJ and football games going with loud cheering fans, so if you have sensitive hearing, bring some ear plugs.

Even though the restaurant is small and busy, we were seated right away, which was a great start. Our waiter Washington, was fantastic, friendly, attentive, and made our whole experience even better. The atmosphere was perfect too. They had music playing at just the right volume and a big TV showing the live Dodger game, which the kids loved. We started with chips and salsa. The salsa had the perfect level of spice for everyone at the table. The kids ordered horchatas and were excited about the unlimited refills (something you don't always see at other restaurants!). The drinks for the adults were just as impressive. My wife's watermelon margarita on the rocks was perfectly made. It was not overly sweet or syrupy like at some places. Our friends had the "El Jefe" margaritas, and they definitely didn't skimp on the tequila! For dinner, everything was a hit. The kids loved their meals. Albóndigas soup, shrimp tacos, and street tacos--all served with rice and beans. The adult dishes were just as good. The carne asada arrachera was cooked perfectly, the chile verde was full of flavor, and my chicken mole was delicious with a great balance of spicy and sweet without being overwhelming. The portions were very generous, and everything came with rice, beans, and both corn and flour tortillas. The only small thing I would've preferred differently was the chicken in my mole. I personally would've liked a leg and thigh instead of sliced chicken breast but the dish was still very good overall. What really stood out was the hospitality. At the end of the meal, Washington offered us "holy water"-house tequila shots on the house--and it wasn't cheap tequila either! Then after the bill came, he surprised us again with another round of "holy water". That level of generosity and care really impressed us. We also learned that the restaurant has been there 20+ years and is family-run by him and his siblings, which made the experience feel even more personal. You can tell they have a loyal customer base--one couple even said, "See you tomorrow Washington!" The only feedback we'd offer (coming from a customer service background) is that we noticed a few guests waiting at the entrance without being greeted, and one couple actually left the restaurant. A simple "Welcome, we'll be right with you" would go a long way. That said, it didn't take away from our experience. Overall, amazing food, great service, generous portions, and a welcoming family atmosphere. We will definitely be back to try more of their menu!

Great food! Staff was wonderful. Definitely worth it…read more Burria was fantastic. Not tons of seats, but good enough.

I went on a taco run yesterday to try to find the best taco in Whittier…read more Started off the run with a keto taco mixed with asada and al pastor and then a regular tripa taco. Keto taco - toasted/grilled cheese instead of a regular tortilla - needed to be done a little more on one side as the cheese wasn't quite toasty enough to stay in place to slightly resemble the shape of a taco. Bit hard to eat, covered my hands in grease. Asada tastes almost boiled, and this being my 2nd or 3rd time getting the Asada here, it consistently tastes like it was boiled and not grilled. Unsure of meat quality or preparation, but there are no grill marks and it's a bit chewy. Same with the al pastor. Tripa taco was bizarre. Strips of flat skin instead of the usual roundish, cylindrical shape of tripa (intestine). Usually a saltier, fattier meat than asada, which is my preference but the one here was lacking in flavor and the texture threw me off a bit. Tripa can be chewy - unless requested extra done, which is how I normally order it - but there was no saving this tripa. I think it needs to be sliced differently, the cuts made it inedible. Brother shared some of his chorizo taco and it was the better of the bunch. Red chorizo, TJ style, although it was also lacking a teeny bit in flavor... onions and cilantro to the rescue! Still, mediocre. Salsas were ok, nothing out of the ordinary. Don't think the tortillas were homemade. Service was fine, cashier takes your order, dude at the counter was chill and had a friendly attitude. Seating was limited. Mostly bar style seating but the majority was in front of a window and it had so much heat trapped from the glass that it was kind of uncomfortable. Other seats are too close to the bathroom. Good for a quick bite or just pick-up orders. Wouldn't plan a sit down/dine-in visit. Parking is scarce and has really small spots, wouldn't come if you're driving a pick-up truck or anything like that. Food was reasonably priced, which is good, however; the food was lacking so I would not return.

Lastly, when getting the check, I noticed that they add an automatic charge if you pay with a credit card. Even though it wasn't much, I paid with cash to avoid that.
