My family was excited to try this new family style Mexican restaurant in uptown Whittier as finding a good restaurant is hard to come these days. Sadly in this current state I can't recommend folks coming here. Below is what needs improvements and what works. Needs improvement: You are not able to order happy hour food or drinks in the family section. That needs to change as the bar is high top seating only and. It comfortable. The guacamole made to order makes you think tableside but it's not...just made fresh in the back. Ours was made with avocados which were not ripe...also it was empty and took 20 minutes to arrive... The free chips and salsa is ok...salsa is too hot for most people and the chips are a giant tortilla that is fried that you need to break ..not ideal and just not tasty. A couple of us got the tostada salad expecting the tostada shell that is picture online...nope just a bed of lettuce and beans... The staff was not attentive and waited to the end of the meal to refill waters and was also hard to flag down...I got a Coke Zero and the waitress kept trying to bring me Diet Coke as well... When you get your bill, you use their special device which defaults at 20 percent starting to 25 percent...please earn that 20 and not default to it. Overall the food was flavorless and that needs to be fixed too. If you are looking for a family Mexican restaurant just stick with Greenleaf cafe for uptown Whittier. What they did right: The space of the restaurant layout is comfortable and would be great to watch sports in either room. They also have a huge room on the side which can be rented out. read more

Ive been going to the Lakewood location for years, the food has always been on point. This was my second time and the Whittier location, first time was for the grand opening. This second time I arrived as soon as the restaurant opened. The place did not seem very clean for just opening for the day, I went to the restroom and I could tell it hadn't been cleaned in a while. We sat in the bar area, there were crumbs on the seat and on the floor prob from the night before. I ordered my usual super mex wet burrito which was dry. The green sauce seems to be a bit more tangy than usual. My margarita was okay, nothing spectacular. The 4 stars is for the service our server she was great which I could remember her name, however was not very familiar with the menu therefore couldn't make recommendations for my friend who was a first time visitor at súper mex. We just finished a most delicious & well served meal at this Super Mex Restaraunt in Whittier. The drinks & salsa with chips were tasty. The atmosphere is appealing, the bar area was nice & the football game was on, the fajita meal we were saved was so fresh & delicious! Also, their customer service was outstanding. We came in during their soft opening on a Wednesday while walking up greenleaf looking for somewhere to eat. Uptown is usually very quiet on weekdays, and this place was no exception, especially considering it's been closed for so long. The restaurant was very clean, with ample seating, and the bar area was large, with lots of TVs, great for catching sporting events. We were able to watch the Lakers game and had TVs in every direction, which was great for us. We ordered the sampler platter, which came with mini chimichangas, taquitos, jalapeño poppers, and wings. The chimichangas and jalapeño poppers stood out, and we'd definitely order them again. We also ordered cocktails, the Paloma and the house margarita. Both were well balanced and not overly sweet. I noticed jigger measuring cups, so it seems like they're going for consistency in their cocktails, which is always a plus. We sat at the bar, and the bartender, Brenda, was attentive and welcoming. Overall, the food was good, the cocktails were above average, and the bar area is very large, making it great for big parties and catching sporting events. We plan on coming back and will recommend it to friends as well. read more

Very big spacious place. Staff was nice. The food was disappointing. I ordered a veggie burrito. The description of the burrito did not match what I was served. The burrito was supposed to come with green rice and it came with red rice. I have sensitive allergies and I don't appreciate their food not matching what is served. Happy hour prices are good but very limited options. Served tostadas and salsa basket. The tostadas were stale but the salsa was yummy. Ordered guacamole to be made fresh. Went yesterday for their soft opening. The restaurant was fairly large. They have the front section that is suited for families (we brought our kiddos) or anyone who wants to just enjoy their meal. The back is a nice bar area, definitely can see it getting a little louder back there on busy nights. And they have tv's for sports events. The restrooms were still being renovated so they directed patrons to rear restrooms in an adjacent back room which was a banquet room and set up. Looks like it fits about 100 guest. Nice bonus! All in all nice ambiance. All servers and staff were very nice and attentive. Margaritas were yummy, food was tasty and they have fajitas. Everyone in our party was happy. We always walked right past this place without ever stopping to try it out. And one day recently we walked in and instantly I knew the food was good just by the smell. The hostess greeted us very nicely and took us to our table and while walking there I was watching the guest enjoying their dishes. Once I looked over our menu I seen some many items I wanted to try but I settled for a couple tacos with rice and beans. Needless to say I was not disappointed. The food was excellent and our server was great. So we have found yet another local restaurant that we love. I don't remember the prices because I really didn't care. After originally opening back in 2020 and having to close down due to covid this place is finally back up and running again, it is a wonderful place inside completely brand new, great ambience, food is exceptional, and great staff that provide great service, I'm sure you will not be disappointed. Came to Super Mex Friday met with the manager Oscar Mancia to check out their banquet room on Friday Jan 30th.Dont let the name fool you. We were met with such a warm and professional welcome. Oscar was so accommodating answered all our 100 questions a hundred times. Very good meeting . We booked an event for Feb. 13th really looking forward to it. The banquetroom was very nice the bathrooms accessible and clean elevator for handicap and you have your own entrance to the banquet room. They offer you 2 types of menus for event affordable . There two large TVs on wall you can hook up USB if you want montage. Oscar said they can play music for you and you can give him a play list . The sound system is great. If your looking for great service fun hip and affordable place to have an event come to Super Mex. Ask for Oscar the manager. He's a good man honest and is very helpful I will be booking another event in July looking forward to it. read more

No "GREEN CHILE" at all was delivered. We asked for an additional cup of GREEN CHILE. They brought a cup of watery bullion....was a bit bewildered of their version of GREEN CHILE! We just went with it and all at the table agreed this was a MEXICAN'T PLACE. I had 2 CHEESE ENCHILADA's smothered in appeared to be a Reddish Brown Sauce Frosting like texture!! The Beans should have been "FREJOLES". Free Beans! I've could built a Fireplace using the Beans as Mortar! Needless to say, then inside of this place....is very nice. This was my 3rd time here... once I sat in front of restaurant...great service, timely. The next I sat at bar...it was dead.. service was ok..attentive and professional. Today, my server was Jorge... sat down, party of 3. Took 15 mins before I had to ask who our server was. Everyone in the bar area was busy doing their business..making plans for after their shift. After the concert we decided to have a bite to eat & check this location out! We often go to the one in Fullerton! The location and the look of this restaurant has so much potential but quality of food, customer service, and lack of professionalism overshadow that. We were a part of 6 and walked into a empty restaurant it took 10 minutes to get asked what drinks we wanted another 12 minutes to see what food we wanted and another 35 minutes to only get our food at totally different times. I ordered a fish plate with a side of veggies my veggies came out 7 minutes before my main dish leaving them to be cold by the time my main course came out. Hard shelled tacos were soggy and the shredded beef tasted disgusting. One of the people in our party didn't received their food until everyone else was done. When we asked the server about the soggy hard shelled tacos we were told "that's how they're made here" we asked for a manager explained our concerns and he told us he appreciates the feedback. No compassion for our experience no accountability. I hope this place gets better service because it has potential I hope It doesn't get run down like the super mex in Fullerton. The front of the restaurant has dining but further in the back is an impressive bar area. The service was very attentive and the food was delicious. Went here this past weekend after bridal dress shopping with a friend. We were a group of six and we ordered five meals and three alcoholic beverages. All things considered, the price was very reasonable - just about $150. I ordered a three item plate with a chicken tamale, potato taco, and shreeded beef taco, served with rice and beans. The chicken tamale wasn't good at all. I wouldn't get it again. The potato taco was good, I think it just needed some more cotija cheese or something. The shredded beef taco was also pretty good and they didn't skimp on the meat. The restaurant itself was super cute and I can imagine that at night it gets more crowded and louder. Service was good and prompt. The salsa served at the beginning was mild but good and instead of having tortilla chips, they give you whole tostadas - a good way to keep track of how much you're eating and they weren't really that good anyway, to be honest. All in all, the food was just OK. Everything was kind of lackluster. I don't think I would personally be back. There are too many better restraurant options in uptown I'd prefer to go to if I were in the area. Also, it left me incredibly bloated for a day and a half, which will be a negative association I'll have for awhile. read more
