Durian gelato in a cup. Lychee and coconut red rice in a cone (all terrible)
    Samantha W.

I am so incredibly disappointed with this experience. I have been coming here with my dad and sister since we were kids. We've had and tried so many flavors. I moved to the U.S. in 2020 and was excited to come back in 2024 and for my husband to try La casa gelato as no longer plant-based. I had hyped it up soooo much, raving about how they use real fruits, real ingredients and flavors. The first thing - they don't offer samples anymore. What exactly is the point of 238 flavors if you don't offer samples....people must pre-pay for the scoop and guess out of 238 which they might like. At the very least...charge 25 or 50 cents per sample or something. I got the durian since we both love durian and I had gotten the durian here soooo many times over the years. I did find it odd that there was no lid covering it like they always used to have. Also, when the gelato was scooped into the cup it was soooo soft and mushy.... I cannot even begin to express the disappointment and disgust that the durian gelato brought. It didn't taste like durian anymore, it was like bad flavoring. There were no real durian chunks in it like there used to be. I had one bite, my husband had one bite and then we threw it away. It was inedible. Disgusting. My husband loves lychee and I've also had that so many times in the past and I raved about how it's so good and you can't go wrong with any fruit flavor since it's real fruit. But the lychee was terrible. It had a weird chewy film like as if it were super old. Which makes sense since you can't get samples anymore so I'm sure a lot of the gelato sits there for a long time before they're emptied. The other flavor he got coconut red rice....so gross. We also threw it away. So again, what is the point of bragging about having 238 flavors if you don't offer samples. It's almost like they know the gelato is so bad now so they don't want you to sample because if you did sample you probably wouldn't end up buying anything. It's almost like they put that trash can right outside the door to make it easy to throw away the terrible gelato. I am not kidding - this was THE worst gelato or ice cream I've ever had in my entire life. And I was so mortified at how much I hyped it up to my husband and for it to be that bad. What a waste of money and shockingly bad experience. Also, the place used to always be so busy. When we went there were only a couple other people in there. So incredibly disappointed and saddened. But not only that - I'm mad because we were at a really good ice cream shop before this where my husband had a cone w/ 2 scoops and he has a big sweet tooth and wanted to get another cone but we decided to save the room for La casa gelato which ended up being a huge waste of an experience, drive, time, money and we could've had way better than this garbage. This childhood gem is not the same anymore, I won't be able to relive those good experiences and I unfortunately won't be back. Life's too short to waste on this, it ain't worth it anymore.

I did not believe my friend before coming here that there would be an "unbelievable amount" (ironic) of gelato flavors, but there is. There's over 200 flavors and you can have anything you could imagine, from classic mint chocolate chip or vanilla to durian and balsamic vinegar. When we went, the place was fairly empty with 2-3 people working. There's a huge center area, with each side with rows of gelato. Sadly, there were no free tastings, so you just had to go off the name of the flavor (and man there are a lot). It may take you awhile to choose a flavor like me, but the staff are super patient. I ended up getting a double scoop. Overall, the flavor of the gelato is okay (I forgot which two I ended up getting). The gelato isn't really your classic gelato (I mean, I didn't expect OUT OF THIS WORLD gelato for a place with 238 flavors), and it tends to lean on the icier, sweeter side than the creamier side. However, it is still fun to check out if you're in the area!

I hadn't been here in years. This place is more about the quantity of flavours versus the quality of the ice cream. I always bring out-of-town visitors here for a 'wow' factor from interesting flavours to the fun decor inside. Unfortunately, they no longer offer samples due to Covid. Note: need to bring cash to pay. You're given a token, and the colour of the token is based on the number of scoops you paid for. There's free parking across the street or street parking. Note there's a wheelchair ramp at the back of the building to access the place. Food: 3.5/5 - over 230 flavours to choose from including sugar-free options. Not as creamy as other local ice cream/gelato places If you chocolate, checkout my video of choices! Ambiance: 4/5 - colourful decor depicting local Vancouver sights Service: 5/5 - friendly staff

Came here on vacation. They had so many flavour too choose from. Unfortunately there was no tasting but the ice cream was pretty good. Service was okay, you had to pay first than choose your ice cream flavour. Inside was super colourful and all the ice creams were displayed so you could see all the different flavours.

We were out for a family dinner and my mother in law wanted to try La Casa Gelato for dessert as she'd heard about it so many times over the years but had never gotten to try it; so that's where we went! They appear to carry other sweets in their shop besides gelato. I have rarely come here over the years so I can't remember if it's always been like that, or if that's a new addition to their shop. I chose Peach Bellini Sorbetto. Honestly, it didn't taste very peachy to me. This place is a fun place to go to for the pure novelty of having so many flavors to choose from. For good quality ice cream though, there are many better places to go to. Service: Good Parking: Free Location: In between Chinatown and Commercial Drive. Bright pink building. You can't miss it!

A true Vancouver gem that's a fav for the locals and a find for tourists that are lucky to learn of, as its located within an industrial part of town. A historic dessert stop that's been in a family owned business since 1982 and proudly boasts offering 238 gelato flavours. You'll find a mix of traditional, exotic & down-right mysterious flavours, in a non-pretentious / frou-frou environment. Aside from the plethora of gelato (sugar free, vegan flavours also available! & gelato cakes, they also offer a selection of cookies, chocolate covered baked goodies & candy. I love coming here either on my own or with guests.

Came here pre-pandemic while in Vancouver...wow, family owned and operated since 1982. So many flavors to choose from, how can one even start to decide? Well if you're having any trouble, ask for a sample of a flavor to narrow down the choices... check out the decor inside as well! Everything from around the world... I'm a simple flavor kinda person, but if you are adventurous, this is a great place to try different ones out. Cup or cone - your choice... took us a little bit to find parking in the area...so either send someone in for you or try to find a parking spot. Enjoy!

What can I say except SO MANY FLAVOURS. This is my first time back at La Casa Gelato in a few years and I'm a bit sad that they no longer do samples. There are so many flavours to choose from so there is for sure something for everyone. Unfortunately they do not accept credit cards so be sure to have cash or a debit card handy. And don't forget to take a photo at the iconic pink wall on the way out. Definitely a Vancouver institution for ice cream!

Came here on a Tuesday afternoon, there was no customers so we got to take our sweet time deciding which flavour. There is parking available across the street specifically for the ice cream store. We ordered: blackberry cheese cake (huge chunks of cheesecake which were delicious!) Stawberry Guava - little taste of guava, it was ok. Durian - tastes exactly like durian in ice cream Death by Mango - super delicious mango with some sort of strawberry drizzle? inside. Overall theres lots of options to choose from, some ice cream are a bit more "gummer" tasting thats all

Stuffed with ice creams is the right phrase to use for this corner shop in Vancouver ... making / creating 238 different flavours of icecreams is not every ones cup of tea. Incredible job and the fun part is you can TASTE all the ice creams in the store . Tasting is always fun n wen you are tasting so many of them at the same time then its even more fun. Staff is great as they look for u if u need any flavour to taste. No pressure and no stares . Just come and hve fun with flavours coz u will definitely like one or the other or maybe more like me. Its not expensive at all. Quality icecream and a big scoop for just $6 is not bad and that too wen its world record place and u get free parking.

The dark chocolate brought a mild cocoa note, while the cereal added a crunchy, slightly nostalgic contrast at the base. That said, I expected the vanilla to have more of a rich, milky flavor. This is not the place for plain vanilla; it's the combinations (think honeycomb, matcha, or seasonal specials) that bring the experience to life. Based on the shop's concept, Soft Peaks is known for using local organic milk and keeping sweetness restrained, which tracks with that lighter, less sugary profile.
