If I could give zero stars, I would. We went on a Sunday, had good service and decent food for an okay price. We were invited by our waitress to come back tomorrow night (Monday) for their all you can eat crab leg special which runs from 4 to 9 (supposedly). We made a reservation for 6:00, are greeted by a not so nice hostess who sat us at a very awkward five top table when it was only for two people. We asked to be moved and were told that "they had other reservations coming in in the next half hour that were already taking up those tables." And that "if we were getting the crab special, we would appreciate the extra space at the large table." So needless to say, we were a little annoyed. Then we waited for 15 minutes to even attempt put in a drink order. When the waitress finally came to take our drink order, we ordered their all you can eat crab special. We were then told "as of 15 minutes ago, they have to stop serving because they were too busy". It was only 6:20 and the restaurant was not that busy. The waitress was very nice and apologetic but the hostess was very rude and defiantly made us feel very unimportant. Apparently our reservation was not as high priority as the other ones that were not even there yet. We will not be coming back any time soon. read more

This is a very nice Italian restaurant that has great food and is on the elegant side of casual in terms of atmosphere. We had a variety of entrees, and my hosts (who are both Italian) found their pasta sauces top notch. My chicken marsala was perfect. Good wine list and full bar, prices are moderate. The service from our waitress Jess was pefect and friendly. We were visiting from California, and this restaurant would stand up to any Italian restaurant in the Bay Area. Had the early bird dinner on a Saturday night in July. Service at beginning was slow and inattentive-even tho place was empty. Had to ask for early bird menu twice. We were seated near steps that went to the upper dining room where people were thundering up and down all night. I ordered the early bird crab cake dinner---$23.00 Pasta Fagioli soup was SALTY--did anyone in the kitchen taste test his? Small salads looked like they had been sitting in the refrigerator--LIMP--did anyone in the kitchen see this?. "Jumbo lump meat crab cakes" were average--not a whole lot of crab meat in these babies! They were served on top of a "lemon garlic ailo" sauce--the sauce was so lemony it was lip puckering---did anyone in the kitchen taste test this? Potatoes au gratin were dry. Waiter got much more attentive at end of meal when he saw his tip materializing. VERY OVER PRICED FOR "Center City" Shamong. For the price-they could do ALLOT better. No WOW factor here! read more

Figured I would kick off my refreshed Elite '13 status with a review! La Campagnola is owned by the same guy who owns Riviera pizza in Medford Lakes. If you are native to Medford then you already know this to be true. Both establishments are equally great, La Camp being the spot you go to for a fancier, more up-scale kind of meal. Service is always on point here, lots of younger servers and bartenders but in my experience they are all knowledgable and speedy. Food is great! I've never been let down whether it was steak, scallops, duck, or pasta. They also always have some great specials each night. The reason I tacked 4 stars onto this one is because of the prices. $50 for a filet is not really my style. But if that's something that doesn't bother you then go for it! Stopped in for lunch this afternoon after visiting an area farmer's market and one of our favorite wineries. We have dined here many times and have always enjoyed both the food and service. Today's experience was a little different. Our waitress was clearly having a bad day and unfortunately it reflected in her attitude and service. Her communication was abrupt and short. It was almost like we were bothering her. She grabbed my empty soft drink glass to refill and my husband asked for another beer. She didn't acknowledge his request and returned with my ginger ale. Not knowing for sure if she had heard him, he very kindly asked again. She finally responded with a sharp, "Yes, I'm getting it." At that point I believe the hostess overheard and asked if she was feeling any better. She answered that she was not. The hostess then called someone and asked them to pick her up a bottle of Excedrin. I found the whole exchange to be somewhat unprofessional and inappropriate. Don't get me wrong....I completely understand that we don't always feel our best at work and that our performance can be affected. However, maybe it would have been best if she had taken the day off or even a break to get herself together before attempting to interact with customers. Today's experience won't deter us from returning to one of our favorite local restaurants. I just hope that the Excedrin helped and her day improved for the sake of herself and her customers. read more

What a great experience. The atmosphere is a slight rustic Italian. The service was great, from the hostess (I think her name was Erica) to the waitress. We came here to celebrate my birthday. It was a Tuesday night. The place had a decent size crowd. The bar as you walk in was to the left and looked like a great spot to hang out and enjoy some drinks and appetizers. This occasion we had the kids with us so no bar experience. We ordered a nice array of appetizers: clams casino, bacon wrapped shrimp (which came out on a skewer), French onion soup and New England Clam Chowder. Everything was great! For our main course, we had the horseradish encrusted salmon and swapped the spinach for garlic broccoli which was very tasty. The veal Milanese (I think it was called that) was a huge friend veal cutlet with balsamic drizzle and arugula or spinach. The kids had the ravioli and Mac n cheese off the kids menu with a side of meatballs. The food really was fresh, had great flavor and a nice portion for the money paid. For dessert we had tried a few different dishes: the apple puff with ice team, chocolate decadence cake and some type of brownie dish with ice cream that the kids split. The wine list was well priced and we got a bottle of red for under $30. All in all it was worth the 40 minute drive. We can't wait to go back again. I'm not quite sure how I've lived in this area for nearly 20 years and just had my first visit here a few weeks ago. Husband, daughter and I dined here on a Monday night in December 2013 to celebrate my birthday - there were very few customers in the restaurant or bar. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful inside - we sat next to a decorated bay window filled with Christmas decorations...it was quite lovely. The calamari appetizer was incredible, each of our entrees was better than the next, and the service was top-notch. We'll be back! read more

There is couple good servers there but over all service is at best mediocre . Food is not consistent in the quality . Hit or miss with the cook , some make good food some cut corners , that is including salads and portions are also never the same . A yes when you have no competition around in few miles area that is ok but if you can screw up order to go when customer was specific and waits on warm bread just to get cold meal than something is not working well . I mention that I don't care for warm bread but want my meal warm and was assured it will be , I live 2 min away . My meal was not even semi warm , needed total reheating and my salad was very different from what I order multiple times before while in the restaurant and my steak wasn't rare but super well done . They did bring me steak with in about 20 min but that is not saving the fact that service over all is 2 out of 5 at best and service is critical part of restaurant business . read more

Good food, but inconsistent. Made reservations for Christmas Eve 2011 and they tried to cancel them on us the day before. We should have accepted that as a sign to not push for them to accommodate our family since they put us at a table right in front of the front door so we froze each time people arrived. Meal that night was terrible - and memorable since it was our family's Christmas Eve dinner! Gave them another shot to have a catered party there - repeated messages left for them over a period of 2 weeks - not one return call! Attended a group dinner a few months ago and food was good, but very pricey! Got take out after that and the check out process is chaotic - only 1 girl knew how to use the credit card machine, so I had to wait 10 minutes while my food got cold. Finally got it home and the chicken was missing from the pasta dish. Not the first nor 4th time that's happened, so...we're done with them unless absolutely desperate. Not much in our area, so it's very disappointing to have such issues with a local business. read more

Upon arrival we were seated at a high top table at the back of the bar. It was cold and very dark, but we got over that when told there were no other available seats. The food was delicious, no complaints there at all. When we were nearing the end, our plates were taken away quickly, our "doggie bag" placed on the table, and then came the check. We were never asked if we would like dessert, coffee, and after dinner drink. Two minutes later the server was back to collect the check and I said I had not looked at it yet. She left and after another few minutes was back again. I politely put my hand down on the check to let her know we were not ready. We still each had a half glass of wine to finish!!!! Next a lady with blonde hair came by to ask how we enjoyed everything and to tell us the next guests had arrived, so as soon as we could pay the bill, they'd be able to seat them. Summary: A hidden gem! Great food that's more than twice as cheap as comparable high quality restaurants! The restaurant has an upscale yet cosy feel to it. Classy and understated decor. Romantic atmosphere. Music was a great selection of mostly 40s and at perfect volume. Appetizer: filet mignon and duck breast. Extremely tasty, very soft, and overall excellent with great wine reduction sauce. Prime rib sandwich: very tasty, great juicy meat. Blackened Tuna was really good. Prepared just right, rare on the inside and pleasantly spicy. Grilled chicken sandwich. Succulent, well seasoned and tasty selection of trimmings. Dessert: Chocolate layered cake, Apple cobbler, Tuxedo cake - all three were delightful, high quality and pleasing in presentation. Portion sizes were generous but not too big to enjoy. Bread basket is on request, so you don't get full by eating it before the main course arrives, which is a big plus as well. Service was beyond outstanding, with the waitress clarifying every detail we were interested in; she even took initiative in advising against dishes that might be problematic for our dietary needs. All in all, it's a hidden gem of a restaurant, as great as pricey high-end ones in Manhattan but with very low prices and pleasant patrons. Dinner reservations on a Saturday in May. Seated promptly. They were very busy, but our waiter was great, very funny and very prompt. We had a few drinks with their great appetizers and bread. They served the local wines too, from Valenzanos, which was great too see. Right from the get go, everything was delicious. The specials were awesome and the portions were HUGE! we had sunday lunch and lunch for work monday our of my chicken parm. I look forward to going there again. I grew up down the street on Oakshade Rd and was VERY impressed by this restuarant. Well done, from start to finish. We have not been here in awhile for a variety of reasons, but after yesterdays visit, we know that there are many other options with better service and authentic Italian food to choose from. Why is it so hard to get bread brought to the table, like others around us. Or to have the specials read to our table like all others around us. Or to be charged for what we had and not due to mistakes made on the bill. Speaking of the bill, since when do you get a credit card receipt without the itemized bill? We would like to know how much our wine was and how much tax is on the bill to properly place a tip. However, when you see that you are charged for salad and soup "upgrades" that we didnt get, something is seriously wrong. Most importantly, the food though. The calamari was soft and oily, not the way we expected it to be served. The cold antipasto just ok. Both may have been better had we had bread served with it. The waitress blaming the young kids in the kitchen is a poor excuse. The veal entree was very tough, the others entree's just OK Italian fare. Four issues and one positive comment: 1) Dueling music (completely different songs/playlists) from the bar speakers on one side and the restaurant speakers on the other. This is a hugely frustrating/manic experience -- especially if you sit upstairs. 2) Very slow service - hardly half full, waited for an hour for entrees, wine took even longer -- my glass came after my meal had been boxed up. 3) Shockingly rude manager upstairs - I'm assuming she was a manager. The waitstaff seem to work in fear of her. Watching her interact with the others was like watching a young, female Donald Trump manage a restaurant. 4) The place doesn't know what it is - major identity issues. For instance a "dance party" band/DJ came in at 9:45, contrary to the classy, rustic, Italian vibe the design suggests. On the + side, the food wasn't bad. read more

I REALLY want to like this place. The food is pretty decent for 'Shamong' food and that's the only reason I go back. The service is beyond awful. Allot at LEAST an hour and a half, easily, to eat your meal. I have seen people walk out many times. MANY. It's sad, I feel like this place could do much better if they just hire people who acknowledge you within a timely matter (is 10 minutes or less asking too much?) and if the waitress/waiter checked in at least every 1/2 hour (although the bus boys/girls are not half bad). I've been there at least 6 times in the past couple months, and every single time, the service is horrendous. People are constantly getting up to find the waiter/waitress, especially to pay their check. read more

We've driven by it several times and it looks nice from the outside. Plus we love Italian! Finally my husband surprised me by taking me out for dinner here on my birthday. The pork chop came highly recommended and did not disappoint! My pasta with crab was delicious too. The atmosphere very pleasant (but wish the fireplace was going). Probably the most attentive wait staff we've had in NJ too. All in all a great date night. My only wish is that he music was more in line with the environment and less club-like. This is the neighborhood restaurant. There aren't many others in our small town. I have only had dinner and visited the bar a few times. Every visit the staff has been courteous and knowledgeable of the menu. The food has always been good and we have had a good time in the bar when they have had live music. They usually offer great holiday and weekly specials. We look forward to trying the Sunday brunch soon. read more
