Very good Italian food. Nice atmosphere in restaurant and takeout quality is always just as good as dining in. Chicken parm is my favorite.

My best friend and I have been wanting to try Femmina since he moved to Medford a year again…read more Finally the situation presented itself and we decided to head there on a Friday night. The parking lot was PACKED and it took a bit to find a spot. We were told there would be a 30 minute wait, which was significantly less than I thought considering they do not take reservations for parties less than 6. We were actually sat in 15 minutes and our server brought us waters and Arnold palmers while we perused the menu and specials. After placing our order, a food runner brought us buttery warm garlic rolls and a different style of crusty bread as well. We decided to start with the arancini ( Italian rice balls) which came with four huge rice balls stuffed with a ground beef bolognese style and served with marinara. Our house salads came with a thousand island style dressing and consisted of chopped romaine, grape tomatoes, and cucumbers. Very basic but the dressing seemed like it could be made in house. For our entrees, I did the limoncello chicken and my best friend did the paparadelle with lobster. Mine had the most decadent lemon cream sauce bathing several chicken cutlets covered in crab meat with melted cheese and a huge mound of capellini. His was covered in chunks of lobster claw meat, mushrooms, prosciutto, and peas with a sherry blush sauce. Both entrees were huge and we took more than half home but everything was delicious. For dessert we opted to share the tiramisu since it's made in house. It had a thin layer of chocolate on top, which made for the most delicious mocha flavor. Our server was wonderful, the place was packed with people celebrating birthdays and everyone sang every time another candlelit dessert was paraded through the dining room. The ambience is cozy and comfortable and I can't wait to go back!

Femmina has a good size lunch menu and the prices were reasonable for lunch, especially with how generous the portions were. Entrees were served with a house salad and complimentary breads that were delicious. Our server was fantastic, she spent a lot of time in Italy and explained that the owners were from the Naples area. Both our dishes were very good and we took some home to eat as left overs for dinner. I would definitely return to Femmina Italian Grill.

Your reply focused solely on my mistake and did not address her behavior at all. That lack of acknowledgment is exactly the issue. The attitude of staff usually reflects the standards set by leadership, and the interaction I experienced suggests a problem in both areas.

We arrived a little over 15 minutes before our reservation and were seated immediately. I love the size of the restaurant. Compact with tables set very close together adds what feels like a small, homey vibe to your dining experience. Our server was outstanding! He brought energy, knowledge of the menu, professionalism, and class. He elevated our experience and may have been the best server we've had at ITA since we've been frequenting. When dining at ITA, like always, we always have to order a variety of dishes to split. We started with a perfectly cooked Oven Roasted Cauliflower appetizer. Split 3 different pastas: a rich & savory Carbonara (probably the star of the night), a gorgeous cavatelli with tender wild boar ragu, and a spicy but balanced capellini with spare ribs. All of their pasta, of course, is made in house and is beautiful and rustic, and is always cooked perfectly Al dente with a great bite. The combination of the creaminess of the sauce, the saltiness and texture of the guanciale, and the doneness of the tagliolini; led us to agree that the Carbonara was our favorite. We were split on the other two, but you can't go wrong with any of the pasta dishes on the menu. We've never had one we weren't blown away by. The entree we chose was a fluke stuffed with shrimp and served over a bed of shiitakes. The crust on the fluke was to die for and the presentation couldn't have been better. ITA is always such an elevated dining experience. You'll be hard pressed to find local, authentic Italian food that is as unique as it is here. There are a couple things we really love about it here other than what I've already mentioned earlier in this review. First, it's great that it's BYO as it helps offset the prices (which are well worth it for the quality of food served) as we can split and enjoy a nice bottle of wine with dinner. Second, the menu is constantly rotating every week and part of their menu highlights and features different regions in Italy. There are always new menu items we've never had before. I'm sure my wife feels the same, but I already cannot wait until we're back dining at ITA101.

A Once-Great Institution Reduced to a Sad, Expensive Imitation of Itself…read more DiPaolo's Red Lion Inn is a restaurant that survives almost entirely on nostalgia. Strip that away, and what you're left with is a hollow shell of what this place claims to be--coasting on a century-old name while delivering a thoroughly modern failure in leadership, quality, and basic hospitality. Let's start with the elephant in the room: leadership. Stephen Black, the fourth-generation owner, has inherited not just a name, but a responsibility--to standards, to customers, and to the legacy he so freely markets. What's happening here now feels like abandonment, not stewardship. A restaurant does not decay this badly unless no one at the top is truly paying attention. The food is the most damning evidence. Portions are shockingly small for the price point, bordering on insulting. You're charged premium prices for dishes that routinely arrive bland, underseasoned, and utterly forgettable. Multiple Yelp reviewers--and I agree--have openly questioned whether the food is even made fresh anymore. There are repeated complaints about pasta and sauces tasting reheated, generic, and indistinguishable from frozen, mass-produced fare. For a restaurant that loudly advertises "old family recipes" and handmade Italian cooking, this disconnect feels not just disappointing, but dishonest. If you're going to charge as if you're serving heirloom Italian cuisine, the food cannot taste like it came out of a freezer bag. Full stop. The interior of the restaurant mirrors the food: tired, worn, and falling apart. What some defenders call "old-school charm" is, in reality, visible neglect--aging, dated fixtures, and a general sense that nothing has been meaningfully refreshed in decades. This is not preserved history; it's deferred maintenance. Service is where everything truly collapses. Countless reviews describe long waits, missing servers, absent managers, and a complete lack of urgency. My experience aligned perfectly with those accounts. When things go wrong here, no one takes ownership. Staff disappear. Managers are suddenly unavailable. Problems are addressed only when customers chase someone down--and even then, explanations feel improvised, inconsistent, and reactive rather than honest or accountable. This restaurant feels like it's being held together with tape and bubble gum, supported by a fiercely loyal fan base that remembers what it used to be, not what it is now. That loyalty is doing a lot of heavy lifting--and it's being taken for granted. What's most shameful is not that a 100-year-old restaurant has changed. That's inevitable. What's shameful is continuing to market tradition, craftsmanship, and excellence while delivering mediocrity at premium prices. Passing off subpar, possibly reheated food as handcrafted Italian cuisine is an insult to both customers and the generations that built this place's reputation. Anyone walking into DiPaolo's Red Lion Inn today expecting greatness will find a restaurant living off echoes. This is not a celebration of Italian heritage--it's a warning about what happens when legacy replaces accountability. This place doesn't need better marketing. It needs leadership. It needs honesty. And it needs a serious reckoning with what it has become. I would not return.
