Prob the worst meal during my trip. Atmosphere was good, decor was cute, the service was friendly, but the food was terrible. We started with the ham coquettes, it was ok. The center was still a bit cold, but we were hungry so we ate it. Second dish was sautéed mushroom, flavor was good. We ate everything. Third dish was drilled octopus which was the most expensive dish of our meal (€28). The presentation was great and we were very excited. But the taste was so disappointing. It was bland, couldn't taste anything but a little bitterness from the smoke. The texture was like rubber, we couldn't eat it. Next dish was flank steak with chimichurri sauce. The meat had gone bad, it had a sour taste, and it was very chewy. We ate the charred pepper and left the steak. I told the waitress about the meat, she kept asking if I wanted the meat to be cooked longer. I repeated several times the issue was the quality of the meat. She didn't seem to care. It was a very disappointing meal overall. We paid close to $80 and only had two croquettes and some mushrooms. read more

I am surprised by the low ball ratings, I would think the ratings would be much higher. We were walking later in the evening and many of the must try restaurants on our list in the area had a long wait (we did not have time to make reservations), so we decided to try La Bona Sort on a whim and I'm so glad we did. The food was amazing and the service was fantastic. We ordered several tapas, entries, and sangria and everything came out quickly and was soo good. It was so good we went back again a few nights later with additional people in our party and we received the same great service and delicious food. I am pretty surprised by the Yelp reviews for this restaurant! Actually, I am very very surprised by the low ball rating on Yelp. It almost makes me question my wonderful experience at this fabulous restaurant. It was one of my favorite places that I ate when I was in the gothic center. They offer a wide range of tapas. I particularly enjoyed their shrimp and mussels. Please take a look at my photos. My photos will show your their great presentation of their dishes. In the heart of the Gothic district, you probably walked by this place and noted the huge copper barrels of beer on top of the bar. The decor is so inviting with the mixture of the exposed brick arches and the Edison bulbs and modern industrial lights. We were drawn in to the ambiance and open space. It is great for groups and it has plenty of seating. The service is absolutely friendly and one of the best we had experienced in Barcelona. It was attentive from start to postres. We were in the mood for fish and vegetables as we have had our fill on paella and potato. It was time for some grilled fish and vegetables. Our meal included : 1. Fried artichoke chips with foie gras drizzle. WOW - I could drink the drizzle. 2. Grilled vegetables in olive oil and romesco sauce. I loved the char flavor. 3. Grillled whole sea bass. White & flakey ! 4. Grilled salmon with potato. The middle is still sashimi grade and it was fresh and simple. 5. Tuna tartar. This seemed to be a crowd favorite as I could see this dish going to other tables. Staked on top of avocado and served with toast, it was a well balanced meal with a side salad. 6. Kare Kare - braised oxtail in peanut and vegetable sauce. I am Filipina and I was a little afraid of ordering this in Spain as it is a Filipino dish, but I was loving it. The sauce it's brothy and the meat was fall off the bone. It is tapas style so you get 2 pieces and it is delicious. Service was so attentive and spot on at every moment. They always cleared the tables to allow room for more food and our vino tinto and beer was always full. I am so glad we stumbled on this place and highly recommend it. read more

I loved the atmosphere. The lights hanging above and the super modern decor made us want to stop by. I ordered the tuna tar tar and had not complaints...it was absolutely fantastic. However, it only came with three small pieces of bread and the side salad could of used some dressing. The tuna tar tar was quite large and the tuna was awesome. My friend ordered the guacamole and literally it could of been a side dish it was super small. Why the four stars? We asked if the check could be spilt and were promptly told no. Maybe splitting the check here is not the norm, but the service could of been a bit more friendly. They had sangria on tap..so that's pretty awesome. Overall, a great spot for ambiance and food is decent, but service could use a little work. Also, they have a menu in English so that was a major pluss and made ordering alot easier! read more

Wandering aimlessly through the gothic quarter, we spied this place and made a mental note to return for dinner. We made our way back that same evening. First off, the restaurant is beautiful...lots of exposed brick/wood...transports you back to what this building was years ago. Secondly, every staff member we encountered were phenomenal...friendly, warm and attentive. we opted to do the Tapas route. We ordered: 2 Ham croquettes- no ham flavour at all...a but disappointing. 2 chicken croquettes - same as above, not very flavorful. Patatas Bravas - nice heat, wonderful garlic sauce Pimientos del Padro - when brought out, we were warned that some were hot (spice wise)..which they weren't. They were dusted with salt and were good, just no heat to them. Pancetta Crujiente - Asian style crispy bacon. While very good, the thick cut bacon had fat (as bacon does) that wasn't cooked throughly..so it was gummy/chewy. The accompanying sauce was excellent. My after dinner Chai Latter was excellent. I'm surprised that this place has only three stars. My sister and I stumbled upon this place strolling through Gothic Center. It was one of the prettiest and cutest restaurants that we saw while we were searching for a place to eat dinner. We decided to give this place a try and I was not disappointed. I would say that the price was on the pricier side, but the food and the ambiance was perfect. First of all, this was a gorgeous place. We wanted to eat our dinner outside, so we asked for a patio seat. Our seat was beautiful. You could see the dark Gothic building surrounding us. There was a gorgeous wall covered in luscious greenery on one corner. The walls were covered in lights. It was relaxing and I feel like a good use of our time in Barcelona. We got to experience Gothic Center while we ate our dinner. We ordered mussels, shrimp, and tar tare. The mussels were in a delicious sauce and the shrimps were huge. They were so flavorful and delicious. The tar tare came with a simple side salad and slices of toasted baguette for you to make your own crostini. My sister and I also ordered a pitcher of sangria which was perfect with our meal. It was enough for two of us and gave us a nice buzz for our walk back to our airbnb. This place is great. Menus in English, Spanish, or Catalan. Servers are all fluent in all 3 - a little frustrating if you are trying to practice your Spanish, but leads to receiving the meal you think you ordered. Friendly service, great food, and the sangria is fabulous. I'd probably rate it at 4 or 4.5 stars but the service is over the top. My family and I are on vacation in Barcelona, and we stumbled upon "La Bona Sort" after our first choice for a dinner happened to be closed. The ambiance was great, and the restaurant was crowed so it looked like the place to be that night. We walked in and got a table right away. Our experience was going great in the beginning; we sat down, got a few drinks, and ordered food based off of our waitresses recommendations/help. Everything changed once we got our food. I ordered the fried pork bacon with asian sauce and it was not what I was expecting it to be. I basically received fried pork fat that came with this strange sweet and sour sauce. The taste was gross and it was very chewy and difficult to eat. The tapas that the rest of my family ordered were also bland and very basic. The meatballs and croquettes tasted like they were frozen. The food was a major let down especially since the restaurant was packed and the ambiance was very nice and inviting when we walked by. I do not recommend this restaurant to tourists or locals. I recently visited Barcelona with a group of 9 friends. On our first night together we figured we may have to split up, as a lot of restaurants in the area did not have space for a 10 person group. This is rarely seen in today's restaurants which is unfortunate given today's prevalence of allergies. We had a mixture of items. Some Tapas and a starter and a main entree and a dessert. I have been a couple times to La Bona Sort and have been pleased every time. The service is great and always have the attention of the waiters quite quickly. The food comes out at a reasonable time and the portions of the meals are quite generous for the cost. This time I ate there I had the manchego cheese platter along with croquets, but the star of the show was the pork that came out cooked to perfection with the layer of fat crispy and the meat tender and juicy. Their patatas bravas was a delight as the sauce was a combination of tomato and garlic aioli which my novia and I cleaned the plate. I look forward to the next time I get to indulge in La Bona Sort, I plan on getting the honey glazed pork ribs that I saw leaving the kitchen. read more

Very cozy and relaxed location. Great food of high quality. Great desserts and a good balance on the tapas plates. Very easy to share the plates, for five people we shared 14 dishes which with drinks landed us on 23€ per person. Unfortunately they did not have a chefs choice of selected plates. Rudest place I've been to in Barcelona. DO NOT go here. I was there to get a drink and some tapas for lunchtime, and they asked me several times if I wanted to eat. I said yes most likely, but the manager somehow kept on saying the space in the patio was for food only, even though there were many people who were just having coffee. There were seats, and they lied to my face that there weren't seats. I was seeing the seats available --it was ridiculous, and I'm not sure why but they discriminated against me. The place has a nice charming terrace, nothing fancy, but with good vibes. The prices are average and depending on a plate you can get a decent quality. We loved tuna tataki and grilled chicken! In total we spent 50 euros for 4 people with a bottle of wine for a dinner in a lively terrace. That's a win! read more

Best tapas we've had on our trip to Barcelona so far. The service was extremely fast, you could tell the waiters were working really hard. I had the clams and vegetable rolls, and our table also ordered sea bass, fish and chips, and a rocket salad. All the food was fresh and tasty. The bill, including drinks and a Catalan cream dessert, came to about $90 euros, so a bit more than some other restaurants but the quality and service was DEFINITELY worth it. Worst restaurant I've been to in Spain. Asked me if I was going to eat, I said yes, because I planned to get a drink and a tapa. They than sat me in the back area. When I ordered, the dude was annoyed and told me that I had to order an entree to sit in that area, as if was my fault that I was sat in their precious dining area. I told the guy I'd move but he just walked away. A crowd of waiters gathered near my table and began to whisper about how I was only ordering nachos. Honestly I didn't understand what the kerfuffle was about, since the restaurant was super empty anyway. Once I received my nachos I realized why the restaurant was so empty, the food is shit. With so much amazing food in Barcelona and Spain in general, I couldn't believe that I was basically served 7-11 quality food for 3x the price. Stay away from this garbage can of a restaurant. It is one of our favourite restaurants in Barcelona. The food is fantastic and the ambiance is lovely. The waiters/waitresses are very attentive to every need of the diner. However, the shocking behaviour comes from the "jefe" (the boss) in the kitchen. I ordered rice with vegetables and unfortunately found asparagus on top of it which I am allergic to. (Normally asparagus is not served with mixed vegetables rice).Having explained my situation, the "jefe" from the kitchen removed it but refused to change it for a simple salad. I ate half , all the while wondering if my tongue is going to swell up, ending up leaving the rice. I find this to be an absolutely horrible action on part of the "jefe", as any other decent restaurant would take the health of the diner into account.
