Tourist trap! Beware! Very rude Waiter and waitress. They don't care to even speak English. Even you asked them questions in English, they would answer in Spanish. The waitress took our menu away and just walked away after we asked her questions in English. They insisted we sat by the front door. He said the best Bravas of Barcelona were in La Bodega La Palma and he was right!! Omg the potatoes were deliciously fried/crispy and soft in the inside- with a flavorful sauce both spicy/mild combo. We devoured them too fast! The croquetas were amazing!! We had an empanada de carne (beef) man so good I wished I ordered more. We also had pan con tomate (their bread with a tomato jam) so good! Had a quick lunch here and wow, the tapas were perfect! We ordered the pan con tomate, patatas bravas, croquetas de jamón and the jamón ibérico. Everything was so good, they have mastered the traditional. The croqueta was one of the few I've had where it wasn't one-note, and had real pieces of jamón inside. Bodega La Palma is a bit off the beaten path right in the heart of the Gothic Quarter, a favorite among locals with great tapas. My friend and I had some eats there today and were very happy with everything. They spoke English with us which is always appreciated when traveling overseas. Really cute vibe inside and incredibly chill. We tried many items, so let me break it down for you. Started with their ham plate which was a reasonable 19,90 Euros. We, of course, had the Catalan Creme & enjoyed it. Now what you MUST get: -The squid ink croquette is so creamy with squid chunks inside. -The pea & mint croquette is incredibly unique and wowza, incredibly tasty. It just...works. -The absolute item you have to have here is their Torrijas, similar to french toast but way better~lol! Legit, so soft but still crisp on the outside and just the best sweetness of flavor you'll ever indulge in. Filling but so worth it. Amazing food, great service, and reasonable pricing. Came here while in Barcelona with a few friends. One of them was really searching for a local hole in the wall and we stumbled onto this place. From what I understand it's been around forever and all the locals love it. I definitely understand the sentiment! The staff was super friendly, we got seated quickly and the service was really speedy. We got the patatas brava, Spanish omelette, cannelloni, mussels, meat pastry for small plates. Everything was phenomenal to the point where I missed getting photos of a few things because we started eating so quickly , and timing on each plate was perfect. Dessert was next level, 10/10 recommend the French toast. Would definitely come back and recommend to anyone's who's in an area local or visiting. Really great experience! read more

We stopped in here at the recommendation of our tour guide. She said it was her favorite restaurant. It is down a narrow side street and I doubt we would have discovered it on our own. It is totally a locals spot but our server spoke English and was very nice and attentive. Also, they have an English menu. For lunch they had a special Menu of the Day which provided an appetizer, main course and dessert for $14. It was a deliciously great deal. I had a salad with anchovies, cod fish with butternut squash and a baked apple. My husband had the Ham croquettes, baked rabbit and brownie. He loved the rabbit! They also offer wine and beer. We arrived around 1:30 for lunch and there were a few tables filled but by 2:30 it was packed. We were the only tourists and I think that is a good sign of a great local joint. read more

Sorry I went! Grossly overrated in every way! I can't understand why this place is so busy. If you think a potato that is diced, deep fried and topped with tomato sauce and a cream sauce is fantastic, this place if for you. That is their claim to fame according to our waiter. We had seven tapas dishes as we wanted to try the best of what they offered. We therefore asked our waiter to order the best dishes they had. I assumed he would be an expert regarding the menu. Of the seven, I admit that one meat dish was very good. Five dishes were fair at best and the paella was the absolute worst I ever had. In fact, it was not fit for human consumption. I like salty food but this was ridiculous. The restaurant is every difficult to get to. It's located in a dark alleyway, in the old part of Barcelona. Not bad in the daytime but an adventure at night! My wife felt extremely uneasy walking is that are at night, not sure of where we were going. The restaurant itself is uncomfortable, overcrowded, poorly laid out, tiny tables result in dining with those sitting next to you. Be prepared to meet and dine with your neighbor. The establishment could use a serious cleaning. There are too many other great restaurants in fabulous Barcelona to enjoy. For me, this was not a good experience. read more

This was recommended by our AirBnB hostess. Really, we had high hopes for our first restaurant in Barcelona and our introduction to tapas, but this didn't meet any expectations. We were told that tapas were cheap. These weren't. We were told they were "to die for" and all that is dying are our stomachs. So, minus a star for price. Minus a star for taste. The service was awkward. Many people working and circling, but still we waited a long time to order drinks, longer to order our food. Food came quick. Then, it took nearly 1/2 hour after we finished our last sip of beer (never got our waters, which we asked for when our food came) to get the cheque. No one ever checked on us to see if we liked our food. I'm looking forward to to seeing what else is out in Barcelona. Won't return here nor recommend it. read more

Bodega La Palma was one of my favorite places to eat in Barcelona. This place was so good and I had such a great experience, I came back to visit! I was able to communicate in English and some (Spanish/Catalan) as the servers had great attitudes. All items were delicious and the bill was not terribly expensive! I was in a group with 4 people where we ordered lots tapas and even a bottle of wine. I highly suggest ordering the mussels with garlic wine sauce. I definitely recommend if you happen to be visiting the Gothic Quarter neighborhood. read more

i ordered the cheesecake (personally requested to remove the marmalade/fruit) and crema catalana. the cheesecake was so delicious. but we did not enjoy the crema catalana, although i have come to realize in my trip in barcelona that i do not like crema catalana, which is why the review doesn't reflect my personal opinion on the dessert. i think it has to do with the texture and orange flavoring. this place as a stronger orange flavor, and i think the caramelized sugar layer on top was a bit too thick so it wasn't really crispy, and more chewy, making it difficult to eat. the serving portions here was large though! read more

Not sure what Rita V. was talking about, I've not seen skewer-style tapas here. She is correct, however, that it's a hidden gem, off the beaten path in the Barri Gotic; I rarely see other tourists here, mostly locals. An employee at a local shop recommended it to us when we'd had really hit-or-miss experiences with local tapas. Now we make a point to come here at least once (usually more) whenever we're in town. It's a smallish place with about 10 tables. It has a wonderful cozy atmosphere, perfect for dates or just a nice meal with a few friends. I brought a group of seven there once and we squeezed around their largest table; I'm not sure they could have seated a larger group. If you plan to bring more than four people, I suggest calling ahead to reserve a table. The cuisine and wine selection is mostly local, but with a bit of a French influence (Catalonia is, after all, right next to the French border). Our server, Gianni, is a delight and is happy to recommend a good wine to complement your meal. His recommendations are always fantastic. It's generally served tapas-style, with a menu of small plates, many of which are commonly found at tapas restaurants, others are more unusual, all delicious. The patatas bravas are the best I've had in Barcelona. The Iberian acorn-fed ham is not to be missed. The plate of artesanal cheeses is amazing, usually with two bries made of sheep's milk and goat's milk, a couple other cheeses, and a lovely sweet sun-dried tomato. They're raw cheeses, which in my opinion makes them much tastier than any cheese you could purchase in the US, where unpasteurized dairy is outlawed in most states. My favorite dish, however, is the sweet peppers stuffed with mushrooms, cooked in an amazingly sweet creamy sauce. Another hidden gem in Barri Gotti. We visited this Bodega as part of our culinary tour of the city - this was our Pinxtos as opposed to Tapas part of our tour. Pinxtos are served with a skewer, self-serve, pay by the number of skewers left on your plate when you are done. Wine or beer or other beverages are served in small quantities so you can take your "montadito" (a slice of bread with something on top) that is skewered. DO NOT GRAB BY THE SKEWER! Bodega la Palma is NOT touristy at all, and definitely a place to taste the true essence of the Pinxto and social life of local Barcelona. read more

By far the best meal we've had this week in this lovely, quiet, traditional restaurant -- we shared several dishes including the patatas bravas which had a garlic sauce with an incredibly unique pepper paste on top, a seasonal salad which was so flavorful it was like the fresh salad had steeped in the vinegar dressing (in a good way), and a sheep's cheese plate with kalamata marmalade. Last stop of the "Taste of Barcelona" tour was formerly an ice house where people would sit around as your block of ice was chiseled away for you. Damn those fridges which ruined that trade. Barrels line up the top entrance which makes it look like a winery which is a great visual clue to the secret sommelier that's local to the venue. Great variety of wines are offered and I noticed bottles rose wines ordered on both sides. I chose the cava and closely recognized that they are detailed in the temperature of your beverage being served and stored. Unique bottle ice wraps resembled something an athlete puts on their ankle to prevent swelling. Bring on the desserts ! Ice creams are made in house. The French toast looking item is only served at Easter in Catalonia, however, you can find it here. Chocolate cake was warm and would compliment a bold red. Our experience here was delightful. This is one of my go-to watering holes in BCN. I have never had a bad experience and the food and wine are top notch. Other reviews adequately describe the dining area. What I can add is this is a very romantic space with subdued lighting where you can carry on a private conversation even with a full house. As other reviewers have noted there is not a lot of seating here but even if you have to wait for a table it will be well worth it. This is not the cheapest place in BCN nor is it overly expensive. This is a great little place to stop for tapas and drinks. We actually went there 3 times during our 5 days in Barcelona. The first time, we found the owner about to leave for her afternoon break, but she sat us down, served us glasses of wine and left us with the cook whilst she left for about a half an hour. We liked it so much, we came back 2 days later with a group of 12 friends and pretty much filled the downstairs area. Try the olives or the fries. They are both great. Highly recommended. read more
