The food was really good! I was glad I tried something new. I can't recall the name with it was turkey slices on bread with cheese and fries. Very yummy and filling. A great brunch option. The margarita was good and they also have mocktails available. The crème brulee was cold on the inside and warm on the outside! Amazing! It was quiet, and well lit, great for a date. The service was great and held it together even though someone I was with was a jerk to them. The bathroom is small but clean.
I went here for Valentine's Day. Loved the waiter's personality and the decorations were so cute. There were balloons, teddy bears, and a woman was taking pictures for customers. They dimmed the lights around 7pm, which was nice. Honestly, my only complaint was that the food was mediocre, especially for the price. $95 for a three course meal that I found myself comparing to my moms cooking (I'm implying that hers is better lol). It was plated nice at least.
La Boheme is a charming and intimate French-inspired spot, perfect for a romantic night or a casual double date like ours on a Saturday night. The ambiance is cozy without feeling crowded, with a French chic decor and noir Hollywood pictures and artwork adorning the walls. It set the perfect mood for the evening. We started off with drinks, and though we tried a lot of them, all of them were solid choices. To avoid going into too much detail, I'll say they were all enjoyable, but my personal favorites were the Club 223 and Volare, both of which were fantastic. Moving on to appetizers, we began with the Steak Tartare, which came with capers, cornichons, shallots, parsley, and a quail egg. The presentation was impressive, and the texture and flavors were a hit with everyone at the table. This was by far one of the standout dishes of the night. Next, we had the Confit de Canard, a duck dish served with Arcadian greens, figs, walnuts, cherry tomatoes, and fingerling potatoes. While my friend who ordered it loved it, I wasn't a fan, duck just doesn't suit my palate. Finally, the Beignets de Crabe (pan-seared crab cakes) with chipotle mayo, they were meaty and flavorful, with chunks of crab that paired well with the spicy mayo. For entrees, I ordered the Bavette à L'échalote (a grilled skirt steak) with shallot sauce, mixed greens, and fries. The steak was cooked perfectly to medium, and the sauce complemented it beautifully. The fries were incredible, with a taste strikingly similar to McDonald's fries, which added a nostalgic touch. Another standout dish was the Paella aux Fruits de Mer, loaded with seafood like calamari, shrimp, clams, mussels, and the fish of the day. It was rich, buttery, and flavorful, showcasing the seafood beautifully. My friend ordered the Côtelettes d'agneau (herbed lamb chops) with Provençale veggies and fingerling potatoes, which they rated an 8/10. It wasn't something I personally tried much of, but my friend seemed to enjoy it. As the night went on and the lights dimmed, the restaurant's ambiance shifted into a more intimate and cozy vibe, which I think adds to its appeal for a date night. For dessert, we tried a few dishes. The Creme Brulee was fantastic, beautifully presented with powdered sugar, strawberries, and mint for decoration. The Chocolate Lava Cake, however, was just okay, lacking the rich flavor I've experienced with Trader Joe's frozen version, though the accompanying ice cream was decent. Lastly, the Tarte Tatin A'La Mode (an upside-down caramelized apple tart) was not to my liking, but that's likely because I've never enjoyed apple-based desserts. My friend found it alright but not particularly memorable. Service throughout the night was generally attentive and friendly, but we did run into some difficulty communicating with our original waiter, who didn't speak much English. Fortunately, the manager stepped in to assist, and from then on, everything went smoothly. Overall, La Boheme is a lovely spot with great drinks, good food, and a charming atmosphere, especially at night when the lights dim and the restaurant transforms into a more intimate setting. It's definitely a place I'd recommend for a night out or a romantic dinner date.
Had brunch here last weekend and it was delicious! They have tasty French cuisine with some really unique dishes. I ordered the Toast au Crabe and it was super filling; toast packed with fresh crab meat, seaweed salad, scrambled eggs, and salmon roe! My husband said his steak and eggs were also great. He shared his fries with me and like a few other reviews point out, they taste very similar to McDonald's fries (in a good way, salty and perfectly crisp)! We made a reservation but probably didn't need to, there were plenty of open tables and the service was fast. I'll definitely be back, looking forward to trying their dinner menu!
Food: Good. Service: So everyone was incredibly nice, my only thing is I told them I was lactose intolerant (I will be sick for hours and the next day - so I stay away from it completely.) Unfortunately, I was told no dairy at all in my food and an hour after eating it I had to run home bc I was sick for the rest of the night. Bloated, nauseous, and everything in between that comes w lactose intolerance. I have not had this much dairy in a minute so I was pretty miserable. Make sure you ask multiple times or go elsewhere. It was certainly not a great experience. Ambiance: nice
My friend and I went to La Bohème on a Friday evening around 7:30pm. It was the end of the dinner rush, so I would recommend making a reservation during peak dining hours. However, we got lucky and got seated immediately. When I saw the $$$, I expected someplace on the fancier side, but the price points are not that bad. Also, it was extremely dark and loud in the restaurant, which definitely does not go with the upscale vibes. Fortunately, my friend and I were seated toward the door and we both speak loudly, but I would not recommend going at a busy time if you require a more intimate setting. A minor note that their bathrooms were a bit dingy and did not match an upscale vibe at all. We both got the salmon special ($29), which is pretty much their salmon entree, but instead of mashed potatoes, the potatoes are encrusting the salmon. I was wowed by the flavors of the dish. My one critique would be that the salmon could've used a touch more moisture, but it was very close to perfection. I didn't enjoy the saffron sauce, but the veggies and the salmon were flavored so well, I didn't need to use the sauce. I liked the lighter feeling of the potato preparation, and each bite was very balanced! Service was outstanding. The host did many check-backs, and we always felt like we were being attended to. There was one point where he mentioned our dishes would be out shortly, and they were not. However, he came back and apologized for the message and gave us an updated eta. It really felt like they valued us being there, and it was an overall pleasant experience.
I loved everything about this place. It's cozy. It's warm. The service was great. Drinks and food were exceptional. It was a great date night. Started off with the crab cake and I have the chicken and my husband had the filet special. Portions were large enough to have to take things home. Drinks were great too. I had the la Boheme drink then the espresso martini after dinner. I recommend and I'll be back. The only reason I docked it a star cause twice during our dinner service they turned out the lights. The music went deafening loud and the romantic music went away and "SHOT SHOT SHOT SHOT" rap song came on for a birthday celebration. I'm all about a birthday celebration but it seemed so out of place and definitely ruined the mood. The couple the bar got up and left. It was kinda strange. And the parents with young kids were pretty confused. Other than that weird hiccup....Made a good story I guess? But I'll still go back. Just wanted to put that out there so you know it's coming.
Our meal at La Boheme was a bit of a let-down. While the restaurant smells delicious, and has a cute interior, we were disappointed by both our food and our service. The best part of the meal was the French onion soup, which we found delicious. We also ordered the mushroom risotto and a pizza. The mushroom risotto was middling. The pizza was a bit of a mess: we originally ordered a pizza with eggplant and sun-dried tomatoes; apparently the chefs were out of sun-dried tomatoes, but instead of telling us this, decided to serve the pizza with none at all and "hope we wouldn't notice." We found this a bit appalling and requested a different pizza instead; we ordered the La Locale and thought it was fine but nothing special. Our waiter seemed tired and disinterested throughout the entire meal. We do not plan on returning.
La Bohème has great food and ambiance but the service continues to fall short. I have visited a few times and the servers rush you out and take forever to bring out drinks. This most recent visit we found a dead bee mixed into the ravioli. The waiter suggested that maybe the bee just flew in while in the restaurant and died. Either way, when a bug is found in your meal while you are eating it, they should sent the manager to rectify the situation and comp some items on the bill. We asked for that and they only took off the ravioli - bare minimum. We were not offered a replacement for the meal. The food is usually good here but the service is extremely poor.
After having trouble finding parking at another place, we decided to hit up another spot. Disappointed that it was closed for an event, I went on my Yelp app and it bought us to La Bohème. Sometimes things happen for a reason and I'm so happy that we ended up at this French restaurant. With no reservations we got lucky with one table that just opened up. Glad it was indoors since the winds were 30mph that day. This was a last minute choice so I didn't really know what to expect here. But as soon as I spotted a brick oven pizza by the bar, I knew we had to try one of their creations. Service was attentive and lovely from start to finish. The decor is old-school Hollywood with a European vibe. I rarely ever order burgers but when I spot one where I can have it medium rare, I always go for it. The brioche bun was so soft and the beef was perfectly cooked. It was MOUTHWATERING delish!! We also got the Mushroom Flatbread and OMG, I'm still thinking about it. This was my first time having pizza at a French establishment. I read one review where this person had one with fruit toppings. I would totally try it had it been offered on the menu. Must be a seasonal pizza. I highly recommend this spot. Definitely make reservations before coming as it was packed when we did a walk-in.
What a cute, chic restaurant! It's small so make reservations ahead of time. We came on a rainy Sunday afternoon and it was busy. The person who served us was nice and attentive. We shared a few things-- Jardinière Pizza: 3/5 the crust was great and I loved how cheesy it was but missed the eggplant, zucchini, and arugula (see photo) it has spring mix instead, green peppers, and artichokes. If you like pizza with a decent amount of tomato sauce - this isn't it. Frittata of the day (mushroom, goat cheese, spinach): 4/5 it was definitely the favorite of the day. It's was nicely cooked and full of fresh flavor. Croque Madame: 3/5 it was ok but I wasn't blown away. The fries and salad served with it, I liked more than the actual sandwich, it just missed the mark for me. Crème brûlée: 3/5 nice crunch at the top and the custard was fine not as smooth as I'm used to, it was ok. I tried the espresso martini but it was too strong for my taste, it was in a cute glass though!
My family, boyfriend, and I came to La Bohème one day for a later dinner. I appreciated that even without a reservation, the hostess was able to accommodate our party of 5 and seat us without having us wait. The food we ordered here was very delicious! This was my parents' first time trying French cuisine. We shared the strip steak, lamb chops, seafood paella, and mussels. Our favorite was the seafood paella. It was done really well, and we had a generous serving of seafood in this dish. All this being said, what none of us liked was the service. The only times we ever saw our server were when she brought us water at the start of our meal and took our order. Outside of that, we were NOT attended to during our meal. No check-ins on how we liked the food, if we needed more water, or if we were ready for the check. I ended up having to stand up from our table and grab another waiter's attention for basic service. Even then, we were still being forgotten. I would come back here for the food, but the service would make me hesitate. Perhaps the service is better during lunch hours, when the restaurant is less busy? read more
This place was a big disappointment. Waitress was very nice but the whole thing was out of sorts. Food tasted bad/chewy, dishes came out at wrong time, and sat next to the kitchen door. The duck was not good and not able to cut through it with a steak knife. My dad's dish came out 30 minutes after everyone else. The appetizer salad came out with other entrees so there was no space to put it or eat it. Pretty bummed about it read more

A cozy French restaurant. Perfect venue to dine in on all accounts. It can get a little loud during brunch. The aesthetic was great, I do like the indoor decor. The ceiling fan was nice. I got the Toast au Crabe and I wasn't a fan. For one, the menu said brioche toast and it just came on a regular toast. I enjoy seafood but this didn't live up to expectations flavor wise. While I didn't enjoy mine, those that I dined with enjoyed theirs. The burger was so much better so I'd go with that or the steak or even the vegetarian risotto. read more

This place is so cute! Our waitress was super sweet! The food was good and generously portioned. It is a little loud in there once it gets busy though. Overall I thought it was a great brunch spot. Very easy walk from the path station. read more
La Boheme is a cute, French inspired bistro located in downtown Hoboken, opened by the owners of the uptown restaurant Barbes. I came for weekend brunch, which was a great overall experience. -AMBIANCE- The restaurant is really cute, super bright, with large black and white portraits on the wall. You'll also immediately notice the brick oven where they whip up their flatbreads and pizzas. Reservations are available for brunch (weekends) and dinner on Resy. -FOOD- I ordered the Boeuf & Oeufs - a protein punched dish consisting of steak and eggs...but a relatively healthier version of steak frites with their sprinkle of greens. The skirt steak was cooked to my temperature and was very flavorful. The dish also comes with 2 eggs and was paired with mixed greens and a side of crispy french fries. Everything was very delicious! -SERVICE- Service was super friendly and our waitress continued to check up on us regularly. Highly recommended for a date or catching up with friends! read more

The food was so delicious! Service is impeccable, the place inside is so cute!! Will definitely be back here and definitely recommend to anyone wanting to try it out. You will not be disappointed! I would recommend making a reservation as it seems to get busy. Parking is not fun but you have to expect that with being in Hoboken. read more

Another solid meal at la boheme. Steak tartare was just the perfect starter This time. Not too Olivey! It's like they read my last review and made just the right amount of change. This time the rack of lamb was available. Cooked perfectly, but came out a a little cold. Loved the stewy veggie sauce that came along with it. Gluten free bread was awesome! That brick oven really does the trick. Overall a delightful experience. Amine was a wonderful server too! read more

This is a wonderful spot that needs more recognition in Hoboken! Located a few blocks away from Washington St. it's tucked away from chaos of the rest of the town and is adorable both on the outside and inside. They make their flatbreads (which are so delicious) in a pizza oven. Their drinks were also super tasty and made well. I sat in front of it at the bar which made my night extra warm and cozy. The waiters provided great service, checking in on us regularly without rushing us. Lastly, the owners are so so nice. I can't wait to come back! read more
I came here for their brunch yesterday and enjoyed it very much. I ordered the poached eggs & smoked salmon over multigrain bread and it came out just as you'd expect it to come out. I also ordered a White Russian was excellently prepared. The atmosphere is that of a French cafe, with southern France inspired vibes. The staff were very attentive and friendly, which made me feel very comfortable. The menu is definitely pricey, even charging for water (just still not sparking), so be prepared to spend a good amount once you come here. I will return here for their dinner menu soon and recommend a visit to this establishment. read more
The restaurant is very cute, and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. I have gnats at home and honestly they're so annoying. The gnats here were just as annoying. The food was very good, as were the drinks. But nothing was incredible. The side salad was dry but didn't come with a side of dressing. The staff is not overbearing, they are attentive and friendly. Overall I'd give this restaurant 3.5 stars. read more

First of all, I have to say that I think I would probably give 4 stars if I sat outside. The food and the service deserve a 4 stars, but I have to take one star off because we sat indoors and it's really not the best dining experience. Pros: 1. service, service, service. Our waiter is very sweet and super friendly. The other staff that brought our food to table is also very friendly. 2. The menu has lots variety, when the restaurant positions itself as French restaurant, it actually is more like Mediterranean cuisines. I was surprised ( and a bit confused) to see they have Lamb Kabobs and Seafood Paella on the menu, which is not the food that you would expect to see in a French restaurant. Cons: 1. The music they played is really really loud. It almost feels like that we were in a club and it's impossible to hear my friend talk. We had to shout or we couldn't hear a word each other is saying. I can see some people enjoy this environment but It's just not for me. 2. Tight seating: I am not sure if it's because we made the reservation too late so they only have a table for 2 ppl available, but when you have 3 adults sitting in a small table, it's just not enough space. read more

Okay redeemed Friday night. Had a party of 10 which is honestly hard to successfully accomplish in a small restaurant and they did a great job. Table was not ready when we got there but they were very kind and efficient making it work for us. The espresso martini (without baileys - extra points to the waiter for making it a point of asking) was really good. I shared the branzino and burrata salad with a friend. Plenty of food and both were so good. The burrata salad was fresh and the branzino was tasty and cooked just right. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food as well (except the flatbreads got mixed reviews). Decor is still on point and vibes are fun and intimate. read more

I just moved to Hoboken and la boheme is right by me, so I've been pretty excited to try this place out. And I did, and it was quite the disappointment. We waited an HOUR for the pizza we ordered. Ended up taking it to go. Did it taste good enough for an hr wait? Absolutely not. Our waitress was very sweet though. read more
Beautiful local for a French bistro. Add in an accordion player and some kir to the menu and we would have been all set. Happy that the restaurant balances French cuisine without being kitsch. Black and white prints line the wall and a fire from the domed brick-oven welcomes you past the sexy curve of the wooden stool-lined bar. Having just spent a night out, I skipped the drinks, but my friend's Bloody Mary looked delicious and fresh. The coffee tastes as though it's been brewed in an Italian espresso stovetop Moka pot. It has the slow brewed quality that had me ordering cup after cup, hold the crème and the sugar. Our waiter was attentive through our 2+ hour brunch. We chose to dine French style and people watch as the time passed by. The first dish out was the margarita pizza which we were instructed to drizzle with a little olive oil. The basil was outstanding as was the quality of the crust. This served as a nice appetizer for 4, but you could easily have this as a meal split for 2. I ordered the classic French breakfast, which came with a perfectly buttered flaky croissant, butter, raspberry jam, and a demi-baguette. The baguette has the classic crunch and crevices, but the croissant stole the show. I wish they served half the amount of bread with a soft boiled egg for the classic oeuf à la coque. Two at our table ordered the skirt steak both prepared to temperature and plated with a substantial salad and a vegetable side. The wine menu was extensive, but this morning I opted for the caffeine. Our brunch began around 2. We had made a reservation and were quickly seated. We watched the turnover from brunch to dinner. The tables were elegantly dressed with a simple purple-vine flower in a vase. Madeline Peyroux songs filled the space, tempting you to sing along. The space was never crowded and we were not rushed, which we all appreciated. This was a perfect way to spend an afternoon with friends. read more

I went back to La Boheme for dinner this past Friday night; during my first visit I only came for drinks. Our reservation was for 8 pm - the hostess tried to sit us at the first table by the front door but my friend was able to have her seat us at an open table in the back. It was below 0 degrees that night and we did not want to be right in front of the door. Sadly, it wasn't any better in the back of the restaurant. It was freezing throughout the venue - diners were wearing their gloves and hats. The waitress said the heat was set at 100 - clearly a sign it wasn't working properly. I'm becoming more and more like my parents these days and complained to my friend the music was too loud and it was too dark to read the menu. Service was so/so throughout the meal. Had to get folks attention a couple times to order and get water refills. For food, we each ordered the butternut squash soup to start - we needed something to warm us up. The soup was pretty good, had a little kick to it. Then we shared the Jardiniere flatbread pizza and mushroom risotto. With the pizza, I requested the arugula to be on the side since I hate when a pizza is overwhelmed by it. Instead, the pizza came out with lettuce on it - not arugula though -it looked like a spring mix. There didn't seem to be many vegetables either -maybe that's why they were using the lettuce to hide it. The risotto was the stand out of the meal - very tasty and came out nice and warm. I also enjoyed their take on an Espresso Martini - it had pumpkin puree in it which made it more sweet than your typical espresso martini. While we were dining, we noticed there was a drunk older man fluctuating throughout the venue - sitting at a table, then the bar, then harassing diners at their tables. The staff was pretty laissez-faire on the matter - rather than kick him out completely, they just sat him back at an empty bar stool. Luckily it didn't seem too crowded that night - there were some open tables and plenty of bar seats while we were there. My takeaway from the dinner experience is that the food is average - I am better off just coming for cocktails, probably on a night when it's not freezing out. read more
