Came here twice to eat....fantastic. The first time we arrived at midnight and the owner was kind enough to accommodate us. Second time at a normal dinner hour. I live in Seattle so am super critical of seafood....this restaurant is for the serious seafood lover. There is no hiding it, no apologies, no heavy sauces and very little deep fat frying. Everything is caught that day. We ate outside on the street, as did everyone else. The seafood salad was a mix, lightly dressed with lemon juice, parsley, superb olive oil, and salt, over arugula. As fresh as could be, tender, nothing was overcooked and chewy. We also had the long skinny clams gratin dressed with vinegar, olive oil, and parsley. Out of this world. We opted for primi piatti of pasta afterwards....the paccheri with shrimp, mussels, zucchini, and cherry tomatoes, and the scialatielli with mixed seafood. Honestly, I've never had mussels better in my life. The sauce was simply the seafood reduction with olive oil, intense, appropriately briny, seasoned perfectly with a touch of peperoncini. I was forced to "fare la scarpetta" or use my bread to wipe up the plate, it was that good.
After asking for a simple small carafe or bottle of their vino della casa, the owner brought us a full bottle of Falanghina. For dessert he offered us a mixed plate of fresh fruit, everything from coconut to pineapple to nectarines and passionfruit. The entire meal for two came to only 68 E. We had dinner the previous night at another famous restaurant nearby (who shall remain nameless) for the same price....it couldn't hold a candle to L'Ostricaio. Don't let the rustic street tables and menu with pictures fool you....this place doesn't cater to tourists. In fact, a couple from Milano sat next to us and commented that this place was fantastic. read more
