The bread was delicious too; I couldn't resist setting up my own olive oil, Parmesan, and cracked black pepper dipping plate. This place is an absolute gem and definitely a tough one to get into. The frustrating part was watching several tables that sat down after us get their pizzas, eat, and basically finish their meals before ours ever arrived. It really seemed like our pizza order had been forgotten and only got started after someone realized what had happened. The staff was also fairly aloof throughout the meal and didn't seem particularly concerned about the delay. We also had a wasp aggressively bothering us at our original table, so we ended up moving, which seemed to annoy the staff a little, but there wasn't much we could do about that. Overall, the pizza and Caprese salad were genuinely very good, and the garden is a nice place to sit. It's a convenient option if you're already in Ravello or walking toward Villa Cimbrone, but given the service and how long we waited, I probably wouldn't go out of my way specifically to eat here.

It was served on a bun (looked somewhat like a hamburger bun) and was not "pressed" like in a panini press. Despite it not being what we expected, it was delicoius none the less. Not fine dining and not a tru Italian place but service was good, the food was good and the prices were reasonable.

Lo Smeraldino was easily one of my favorite meals in Amalfi. Everything we had was amazing. First, the Napoletana pizza with anchovies. LOVE. I already love anchovies, so this was an easy choice for me, but the combination of the salty anchovies, mozzarella, tomato, and that crust was so good. I would order it again without even looking at the rest of the pizza menu. We also had the handmade Scialatielli with seafood, which I initially remembered as some type of pappardelle. It was filled with seafood, including mussels and shrimp, with tomatoes and fresh pasta. Exactly the kind of pasta you want to eat when you're sitting along the water on the Amalfi Coast. The Local Sea Bass Fillet in Salt was another standout. The fish was light, fresh, and beautifully prepared, served with sautéed escarole, capers, and olives. It was simple in the best way, where the quality of the fish really came through. And of course, tiramisu for dessert. Delicious and the perfect way to finish the meal. The setting makes everything even better. Lo Smeraldino sits right along the harbor, slightly removed from some of the craziness in the center of Amalfi, with beautiful views of the water, boats, and coastline. It has that relaxed seaside Italian atmosphere you imagine before you ever get there. Service was warm and attentive, and we never felt rushed through the meal. Five stars without hesitation. Up until this meal, every restaurant we had visited was excellent. This was, without question, the most disappointing dining experience of our trip. I have traveled extensively around the world and have enjoyed incredible food as well as meals that simply weren't my favorite. Even when I haven't loved a dish, I've usually finished it. This was different. I ordered the grilled seafood, which included king prawns and squid. I didn't eat either of them because the calamari was so tough that my knife could barely cut through it. If I couldn't cut through it with a knife, why would I subject my teeth (that years of orthodontics worked so hard to perfect) to chewing it? The dish was also incredibly bland. My friend's pasta wasn't even close to al dente. It was simply not enjoyable. The food was disappointing, but what made the experience truly unacceptable was the way I was treated. When I explained why I wasn't going to continue eating my meal, the host told me that I didn't know what fresh seafood tastes like and implied I didn't understand how fresh food should be prepared. I've eaten fresh seafood in many countries, and freshness does not excuse toughness or a complete lack of seasoning. Even Ratatouille himself would have jumped into the kitchen and added some seasoning. To then ask if I wanted to order something else after dismissing my concerns felt insincere. Why would I want more food after all of our food was disgusting and clearly I do not know what fresh seafood taste like? If there were a Michelin category for bland food and poor customer service, this place might finally earn a mention. Getting to the Amalfi Coast from the United States--or from almost anywhere--isn't a quick or inexpensive trip. People save, plan, and work hard for the opportunity to experience this beautiful destination. When you finally arrive, you hope for wonderful food, warm hospitality (insert sarcasm), and memorable experiences. Unfortunately, Lido Azzurro delivered none of those. The scenery around Amalfi is breathtaking, but this restaurant was the biggest disappointment of our visit.
