Came here with my brother as a quick (lol .. you'll understand why I'm laughing later on) last minute lunch decision after remembering that I saw this place on tiktok. Anywho .... food was pretty good. My brother ordered the two ramen split bowl which he throughly enjoyed. I ordered #1 with black garlic (which I didn't get but was charged for ... I'll get into that later) .. a bit salty but I still ate it all up. The Thai iced tea ... delicious. The pork bun ... very flavorful. If the food was all that and a bag of chips (no chips were actually given, just a saying people) why only 4 stars?!? I honestly wanted to give it 3 and a 1/2 but between a 3 star review and 4 star review, I decided to be nice and give 4. Back to why only 4 stars ... service wasn't up to my standards. It was slow and the first waiter we had, pretty much sucked. From what we saw, there were 3 waiters ... two men and a woman, and another guy who helped bring over the tray of food. We tried to flag someone down to order but that took like 10 minutes. When we finally ordered, I asked him what the difference in the #1 and #2 of the tonkotsu ramen and he said #2 had milk in it so it was creamier. Well, wasn't in the mood for creamy ramen so I went with #1. I told him I wanted black garlic and he said, 'sure if you want to pay $1 more'. Uh, I could see it was $1 more on the menu ... white garlic was $13.99 and black garlic was $14.99, that's why I asked for black garlic. I also asked him to combo the ramen for me. When you combo it, it's an additional $6.99 for a pork bao and Thai iced tea. When our ramens came, I asked waiter #2 if my combo would be out shortly because I was eager to try the Thai iced tea. He said he'd go check. He came back and said that waiter #1 didn't put it in but he did and it would be out momentarily. Thank you waiter #2! While waiting I noticed that my ramen didn't have black garlic, I wanted to flag a waiter down to tell them but no one was around. So keep in mind I went to lunch around 3 and the place wasn't crowded at all outside so where was everyone? I decided to just suck it up, eat my ramen and remember to look at the check to make sure I wasn't charged for the black garlic. So we ate and when we were finally done, we looked around for any waitstaff member so I could ask for the check. Waiting and waiting ... seriously waited at least 10 mins. To be quite honest, we could have walked off without paying .. that's how long we sat around waiting around for someone. Finally we got waiter #2 and asked for the check but we had to wait a bit longer because someone was being interviewed at the entrance of the restaurant. Come on already ... I GOTS to go!!! All said and done, our 'quick' lunch took almost an hour and a half ... when we only pretty much only ate for 20 mins tops. Regardless of all this ... Kyuramen's outdoor seating is beautifully set up. Each "pod" seats four and the single heater is surprisingly really effective in heating the space. F and I kept our jackets on because we tend to run cold and it was a super cold night, but I can see others being comfortable without their coats. Food-wise, everything we had was pretty good but not memorable. I may have hyped it up too much in my head because I've been seeing it pop up on my IG a lot recently. We ordered the takoyaki and oyster tempura to start. Both perfectly fine, but not memorable. Our ramens both came to us lukewarm. Maybe it cooled down quickly because we were sitting outside and it was a chilly night, but the soup was lukewarm even from the first sip. Also right now if you check-in on Yelp you get either a FREE Thai ice tea or matcha pudding. I got the Thai iced tea and it was refreshing in the heat and tasted good too (not too sweet)! The Kyushu tonkatsu shio ramen with black garlic was quite tasty! I feel the broth could have been a bit stronger and more rich with pork flavor, but I enjoyed it overall and the meat is absolutely melt in your mouth. On a scale of 1-10, we had the black garlic ramen (7), kimchi ramen (2), white garlic ramen (7), popcorn chicken (6), and we upgraded to get the pork bun (9) and Thai ice tea (8). Service was good and everybody on staff was friendly. It's a cozy spot and the menu is in Chinese as well. The kimchi ramen was too salty and the popcorn chicken was disappointingly not as good as all the reviews say. We were there the last hour before closing, so perhaps that explains some of our experience. Kyuramen has been touted all over social media for their unique outdoor dining setup featuring private bamboo booths. The setup is spacious, safe, and warmed with heating lamps. I'd highly recommend making a reservation online to avoid waiting, especially if visiting on a weekend. As the name suggests, Kyuramen's staple is its ramen. Prices are standard, but my boyfriend and I were drawn to Combo B, because it is a steal! For $35, you get an insane amount of food: 2 bowls of ramen, 2 desserts, AND a popcorn chicken. The food came extremely quickly, but the ordering experience was a little haphazard. Our server seemed rushed and didn't bother to repeat the order back, so we ended up pressing the service button to ask someone to confirm. No one came... The button is a fake prop. On the positive side, the popcorn chicken was delicious! The portion is substantial, the chicken delicious, crispy and tender. We also ordered takoyaki as an appetizer and it disappeared so quickly too. The ramen was disappointing. I had the Tonkotsu, and the broth was bland, watery, and tasted like it hadn't received the proper preparation. I didn't really get any of the rich, umami flavor that I usually enjoy when slurping down my ramen noodles. Fast forward to dessert: matcha pudding and cherry blossom jelly. Both were good and presented beautifully, with little pitchers of pour-over sauce. Perfect for closing out a heavy meal. They also have a dessert menu with crepe cakes. Lastly, everyone is given a kyuramen branded face mask and hand wipe at the end of the meal, which I thought was a nice touch. Great concept, great ambiance, subpar service, subpar ramen, but beautiful presentation. Prices are great, but I wouldn't really recommend coming here for excellent ramen. This spot has decent ramen and outdoor dining during Covid which is great so 2 stars instead of 1, but I just wanted to say that the service was really horrendous and those great heaters some of you speak of, I'm not sure if all are up to code because it burnt my friend's jacket when he walked passed it to sit down... his jacket burnt open and feathers flew all over the place. Staff saw but just stared... it was the most absurd experience ever. We asked for a bag to put the burnt jacket in and one waiter gave us a small white plastic bag that could just fit a baby's jacket in... At no point did one staff come up to us to ask if we're okay or hurt, nor offered to compensate for the bill etc. for such a tragic accident - the place smelled like burnt feathers and it looked like we killed about 10 geese in there with feathers all over the floor and they all saw and carried on as normal. Anyway, we were all really hungry so we ate as food came, and while we stayed for our pre-ordered dessert when we should have just left, 2 wait staff came and rushed us to leave with the check which was obviously rude, so we paid and actually tipped a standard tip as good samaritans, when we shouldn't have at all. All in all, we told our friend to go back and request they reimburse him for his jacket. They tried to play it off saying we didn't have proof his jacket was damaged there, but we had a video of it all happening on their premises so they paid up. Sorry, but we will never be back even though ramen was pretty good. Train your staff better. Service is the worst we've ever experienced in all of NYC. read more

4 to 4.5 stars Food: The gyoza, charsiu, & shrimp tempura were my favorite! Charsiu was particularly tender and the gyoza is one of the best dumpling appetizers I've had! The ramen was decent, however, I was not a fan of the spicy tonkatsu broth b/c that reminded me of a spicy hotpot/regular noodle base with Chinese peppercorn. The spicy broth was flavorless and it was just spice. They just added twin bowls to their menu which means you can try out two different flavors of ramen in one which is cool! They also immediately give you hot tea when you sit down & you can warm your hands with it too...they constantly refilled the tea for you so A+ for customer service. COVID: They don't take temperature before they seat you. Outdoor dining has a really cool set-up with non-fully partitioned walls. The individual tables/stalls are completely isolated from cars on the road and can be fully enclosed by closable doors, offering more privacy and protection. They bring out hand wipes at the beginning and end of your meals which I appreciate. My only concern is that although the tables are separated outside, there's not necessarily a large sheet of clear plastic to fully separate the tables...it seems to be a sheet of foldable wood with gaps in between that can still allow for airflow between tables/parties. This place was cute! They have propane heaters, which helps a lot in the cold. It helps you stay warm and insulated. Now, the road they are on, there are a lot of pot holes, and cars drive aggressively. Sometimes, I had fear that that cars could swerve and crash into the outdoor dining space - but that's not Kyuramen's fault, that's the city's fault. For the food - so the prices were pretty good. I ordered the takoyaki - it was lukewarm, therefore the bonito flakes weren't really moving. I was pretty disappointed by that. I ordered the shio tonkatsu ramen (which is a salt-based tare) vs the shoyu tonkatsu ramen (which is a soy sauce based tare). Once again, the ramen wasn't as warm as I like it to be, but it had a good flavor. I feel kind of let down - so many people seem to like this place, but I felt sort of let down. read more

**COVID EDITION** I made a reservation for three people indoors for a weekend dinner. I loved how they recreated their indoor seating for their outdoor dining. They have heat lamps in each outdoor tables. Unfortunately they keep their restaurant doors open so the indoor seating was actually pretty chilly. I kept my jacket on the entire time. I love how they provide barley tea - it's one of my fav teas. The servers are pretty proactive in checking up on your table. At some point it did seem like they were checking up on us a little too much that towards the end it felt like they wanted us to leave. We weren't sure so we tidied up and headed out just in case they wanted us to leave. However, the food was great. If you check in on Yelp, you get a free option of either Thai Iced Tea or Matcha Pudding. They also offer ramen combos with a side of one pork bun and Thai iced tea. So I obviously went for the combo and matcha pudding on the side. My friends ordered a veggie ramen (new) and chicken ramen respectfully and gave very positive feedback as well. I ordered the Mega Ramen combo and was decently good. All their ramens have a lot of content so I really liked that. Their purple potato fries were surprisingly delicious - highly recommend eating it with the spicy mayo on the side. Pork bun also great but spicy for those who have a low spice tolerance. Friend got the tonkatsu ramen, and I went with the omuirice with the Demi glacé sauce. My omurice was the winning dish. Really fun to watch the server cut it and pour the sauce on, and very delicious. I forgot to pick the side, so I was served a seafood miso (I think the other option might have been salad). The shrimp was perfectly cooked, but the broth was not my favorite. Not bad, just a bit bland. I had similar feelings about the broth in the tonkatsu ramen (definitely not the best I've had), but I really liked the texture of the noodles!! Since we went on Valentine's Day, we got a bonus crepe cake dessert that they had made just for the day! It was sooo pretty and tasty! I went to Kyuramen a few times before and during COVID. What I like about this restaurant is the variety of items on the menu including appetizers, entrees and dessert. My favorite items are the omurice, ramen, and matcha pudding with red bean! If you have to pick one item to try, I would say, get the omurice! It is amazing. When they serve it, it's a whole presentation. Make sure to take a video of it. The server cuts open the omelette it half and it falls apart like an egg blanket over fried rice. They also drizzle the sauce over the omelette. Overall, it is delicious! The portion is generous as well. They also serve a lot of Japanese appetizers. I like their takoyaki and popcorn chicken. If you check out this place, I suggest trying these items. I would like to try the okonomiyaki next time! If you are here on a date, you can try their combination meal B that serves two people. It comes with one popcorn chicken, two ramens and two desserts. It's a pretty good deal. I recommend making a reservation ahead of time, especially during these times. I am SO glad that my friends and I decided to go all the way to Flushing for this restaurant! My sister reserved a spot for us through Yelp and even changed our time-slot like 4x, but there were no problems when we got there at our final reservation time at 8pm (on a Tuesday). I was surprised by how packed it was (so make sure to reserve beforehand!) The outdoor seating is basically feels like indoor because it's nice and toasty with heaters, and socially distanced with other parties since we all have our own cubicles. Honestly I was so impressed by the set-up and really appreciated how warm it was on a cold night. My friends and I ordered the Kyushu Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen and it was sooooo delicious. The bamboo shoots (?) tasted kind of strange, however... The Takoyaki was also fine. I like Otafuku's Takoyaki more. The inside was like room temperature so I'm not sure if it was completely cooked. It was a little too mushy. The service is pretty good! The ramen took a while though-- about 20 mins after we got our Takoyaki. They also accidentally gave us two Matcha puddings, which we obviously told them and they still let us have both! The matcha pudding tasted subtle and is a little harder than your typical pudding consistency. Really cute presentation though.
