Hunan restaurants in NYC are harder to find than a Republican at Burning Man, so when I came across Young and Rich as a lunch contender, I was skeptical there'd actually be authentic (and good) Hunan dishes. But there were, and I was more than happy to be wrong. The black Fried Stinky Tofu was delightfully musky and pungent, though nowhere near as stinky as its Taiwanese cousin (as is typical). Definitely get this for dining mates who've always wanted to try stinky tofu but need a "training wheels" version to start. The Sauteed Prawns with Garlic and Vermicelli were gloriously crunchy and juicy, while the Griddle Spicy Bullfrog Pot was classic Hunan in a stew--from the chewy frog meat to the delicious green peppers. Similarly, the Stir-Fried Beef Hunan Style hit all the right regional notes. And the House Special Fish Head with Hunan Pepper--while taking an extra 45 min to prepare--was worth the wait for the mouth-tender fish and delicate spice, so similar yet so different from its bombastic Sichuan cousin. Service was pretty easy and attentive throughout, and the decor was modern and clean.

Nice selection with all the mala dishes you can choose from. Tried the mala fish, stir fry pepper chicken, and mala frog. Flavor was very good. Wish it was a bit hotter. Decor is also nice and clean.

I went because my hotel recommended it, plus, it was close by on a very cold night. I ordered the Tumeric Chicken at 50% spicy. The food was delicious, however, there was more bone and gristle than chicken. I asked about it and was told this was normal. They brought me a free desert I did not ask for and asked me three times to give them a review, so here it is. I would have traded that gooey desert for some edible chicken any day of the week!

Came here after seeing the reviews. Was pleasantly surprised. Everything we ordered was good. The flavor and price were good. It's a nice small hidden place in flushing. Each dish has its own different flavors. Service was good. I would come back here again

Now when they ask you what level spice you want be careful which number you give them because they do make it very spicy. The chicken fried rice was soo good. I'm a flight attendant on a layover & I will be back for some good food!!

Food (5/5): We ordered Mao's braised pork and Hunan sliced beef. Wow, the food here was actually quite good. We came here because of the fun name but the food surprised us with the delicious quality. Service (4/5): Solid service where they seated us quick and got our food out. They had no issues with refilling drinks and getting utensils. Ambiance (5/5): Nicely decorated interior with Chinese rich vibe type decorations. Really liked the theming of this place.

We got the Chairman Mao braised pork belly, and hunan sliced beef. Pretty interesting aesthetic here, with the cats and dead mouse. Luckily they don't check your age or TC before you're seated here. The free appetizer of spicy mala pickled cabbage and nuts is really good. The sliced Hunan beef is transcendent. Like I've literally never had this level of juicy and tender beef. I almost thought this was wagyu beef. Wasn't too spicy at the regular level, and had a good mix of bean sprouts and thick glass noodles to soak up the broth. The chaiman mao braised pork belly was also really good. They have massive chunks of meat, and crunchy bok choy for fiber. Really juicy meat, maybe I'll try the sweet version later.

The food is really good, but the portions are a bit on the smaller size for some dishes, especially if you're getting a grilled fish. It was yummy to try though! Grilled Fish: we settled on the stripe bass ($50), and with 5 add ons, it was an additional $15. The flavor was pretty good, but for the price, you really don't get much. I thought the fish was especially on the smaller side, also quite salty, while I kinda had to play I spy with the toppings, it wasn't enough to go around. There's another place I prefer more for this dish that does a better job, and is better with the portions. Cold Dish Appetizer Sampler: I loved this one! It's perfect for first time visitors who have indecision but also want to try everything on the appetizers menu - this delivers exactly that. While again on the skimpier side, I enjoyed a majority of the samples here, and now know which ones I'm not particularly fond of (for example, I would skip the wasabi artic clams, it's very strong and doesn't need the wasabi and would do better with a different flavor). Presentation is beautiful too Stir Fry Gizzards: my favorite dish had to be this spicy and sour gizzards. The gizzards were a tiny bit on the hard side for chewing, but I didn't mind too much as it was so flavorful. I think they're pretty generous with the gizzards, and the pickled beans as well. Flavors are strong and so yummy. Not for the non-adventurous eaters though. There's no gamey or weird taste (to me, anyway), but textually, might not be everyone's cup of tea. I'd get this again :D Stir Fry Green Pepper Beef: the flavors are similar to the gizzards, but also even spicier. This was such a hit with the party! Too little beef though :(

TLDR: super cool, modern, fast service, good variety of food Went with a group of 3 for a Friday night out. There was plenty of seating and we were all quickly seated. The restaurant is clean, modern, with really cool art pieces all over the restaurant. During the order process, we ordered mao braised pork (sweet), and I ordered stir fried chicken with Szechuan peppers. I will note that when the waiter asked if we wanted salted or sweet maos braised pork he told our group of friends (who speak Chinese) that "white people prefer the sweet version"... I will say he was not wrong! Maos braised pork: sweet, seasoned well, could eat the whole bowl if I could. Stir fried chicken with Szechuan peppercorns: it was crispy and spicy as anyone would want. This unfortunately was not my favorite restaurant take on one of my favorite dishes. The stir fried chicken and peppercorns felt more greasy than I am used to having. Overall, I would go again but I would certainly try the other great things on the menu if I was around !

Top down: 1. Steamed egg & minced beef; 2. mao's braised beef ; 3. mapo tofu (spicy!); 4. hunan style stir fried beef (spicy!)

3 stars only because I don't really think this place is for someone who doesn't enjoy spicy food that much! If you love spicy food, this place is for you! The menu has so many spicy options, it was actually a bit hard to find non-spicy dishes for someone who doesn't eat spicy. My friends (who love spicy food) and I came here for dinner and they ordered a few spicy dishes (Mapo Tofu, Stir fried beef) while I got 2 non-spicy dishes. They kept commenting on how good the spicy dishes were. Very comfortable seating booths! Spacious for 3 people. I had Mao's Braised Pork and Steamed Egg with Beef which I thought was okay. The pork seemed much more fatty than I expected.

Downtown Flushing is chock full of Sichuan places now so the competition is fierce. Young & Rich tries to distinguish itself from the other establishments in its trendy decor rather than playing into the more classical Chinese decor but I think it works. Food here is really good IMO. The pig ears with shredded cucumbers were a great way to start the meal and the contrast in textures was great. Stir fried cauliflower was also well seasoned and cooked to perfection, highly recommended. The chili chicken was also perfect - hot, crispy with just the right seasoning and mala numbing spices. Portion sizes are a tad small but prices are reasonable. Location is a bit off the main track but still worth stopping by. Thumbs up.

4.5 stars! Came on my boyfriend's recommendation since he had it once before & the food did not disappoint. We ordered the braised pork belly & buns, a hunan style stir fried beef (forgot the name, but it's something like smoke-style fried beef), & the tomato and spare ribs soup. They also give a small app of seasoned kelp and peanuts while waiting for the food. Portions here are enormous, and good for a party of 3-4. The tomato & spare rib soup was so flavorful and tasty! It comes with corn, tomato, mushroom, & spare ribs. There's almost a bit of a ketchup taste to it, but not in an overwhelming way by any means. We ordered the beef at mild spicy (2 pepper signs instead of the original 4) & it already packed quite a punch. The beef was perfectly cooked, seasoned, & the dish was well balanced. Braised pork belly was also delicious, but definitely needed the buns to help balance out the salt. Overall, definitely a great restaurant for those who can handle & love spice, but there are great non-spicy options as well. Restaurant is spacious & staff are quick and efficient. Definitely will be back!

Stopped by for dinner around 7:30pm on a Friday and waited 15 mins (not bad tbh). I would give it a 3.5 but the waiters were friendly and attentive so it deserves a 4 instead of 3. The vibe is young with a lot of figurines as decorations and cute arts on the wall. The food portion is good but they were very spicy and salty (it might be what we ordered). The braised pork was pretty good but got a little salty at the end. The appetizer platter and fish was spicy (and I love spicy food) so get mild if you can. I would skip the appetizer platter even though it looks nice for the grams.

All their locations have pretty good ratings so I can't really go wrong. Came around 11am on a weekend and it was busy but there were tables available. The tables are arranged pretty strategically to fit as many as possible, which isn't the best for comfort. The service is nice here. The menu is in Spanish but they do have an English menu if you scan a QR code. I ordered the craken taco, costra taco, verde aguachile mixtos, a half dozen grilled shrimps, a la exotica, and guac with fried octopus. Everything was delicious! This place did not disappoint. Although, next time I'd probably skip the Craken taco and verde aguachile even though these two are a top recommendation. My favorite dish was probably the grilled shrimp. The way they grill it really brings out the sweetness and flavor of the shrimp. I personally enjoyed the la exotica more than the aguachile. The guac was also really good and the fried octopus was a good addition. I will definitely go to their other locations. This is a must try for seafood lovers.

Interesting enough, while the owner is from Wenzhou, their main chef is from Fu Zhou. Hence I definitely see some Fukinese influences here as well, such as their famous Buddha Jumped Over The Wall Soup that requires advance notice. Anyway, the reason I first visited this restaurant was because they have a great lunch special from Monday to Saturday. You can choose three items and a soup for $8, or four items and a soup for $9. I gave that a try a few months back and thought the food was solid. Due to my first experience, I decided to come try their dinner offerings with my family recently. We ordered a bunch of dishes and was overall please. While the best dish of the night may have been the Salt & Pepper Pork Chop, it's hard not to enjoy Ginger & Scallion Twin Lobsters for $29.88 right? The Shi Li Xiang Stir-Fry (Mixed Seafood w/ XO Sauce) and Wenzhou Style Dried Tofu w/ Smoked Pork were pretty good too. Unfortunately, the cold appetizers were not as satisfying. While slightly overcooked, the Boiled Pig Kidney was still decent. The Fried Belt Fish was okay, and I did not really like the Jelly Fish & Cumcumber or the freebies they gave us. As a whole, I thought the dinner was not bad and I would return to try more dishes. Nothing here really blew my mind, but the prices are so inviting.
