I have a '97 F350 4x4 Crewcab 7.3 diesel with E4OD automatic. In 2015 I bought a 15K GVWR toyhauler and on my way home from picking the trailer up the transmission failed. I called Kwik Shift and talked to Alan and had my truck towed to the shop. Knowing I was going to be using my truck to tow my new trailer we discussed upgrades to the transmission ( torque converter, upgraded internals etc.) after picking up the truck I added an upgraded trans cooler. My 2007 Chevy Tahoe's transmission conked out on me on a freeway flyover. I had to tow it somewhere. I was informed that there was a shortage of 4 wheel drive transmissions. Got my clutch and flywheel replaced at Kwik Shift for my Nissan Xterra. I have driven it for 2 months since the replacement and I have no complaints. I called a couple different places before quik shift and most places didn't want to do the job as it requires dropping the transmission and transfer case to get to the clutch and flywheel but quik shift did it without any problem and the job was done in days. When I was talking to the owner about the job he recalled doing a Nissan Frontier clutch before which was great as the xterra is basically the same vehicle. I got to see the old clutch and flywheel and they definitely needed to be replaced. The owner was friendly and knowledgeable. I would use this shop again. read more

Alan is an honest, straight shooter who really knows his stuff. My 2008 Mazda 3 started having shifting issues a couple of weeks after I bought it. Alan did a free test drive to diagnose the issue, and then patiently and extensively talked me through options and pricing before starting work on it. He was able to repair the tranny and fix the issue, but during his final test drive he noticed it was starting to recur when he drove it harder. So he said he wouldn't charge me and recommended I trade the car in rather than put more money into it since Mazdas are known to have tranny issues. Basically he was looking out for me even though he could have made more money by continuing to try other options. I am glad I found Alan. If I could give him more than 5 stars, I would do it in a heartbeat. I was calling around to see if anyone would install a Corvette Servo in my 4L60e transmission in my '96 Suburban. Multiple shops turned me down, and one even ridiculed me for thinking about such a thing, they said it would be like driving a bucking bronco? (I will keep the shop nameless). Anyways, I called Alan and he was aware of the mod and was VERY knowledgeable about everything transmission related. I cannot put it into words how much he knows about transmissions. Give him a call if you think I'm joking. Back on topic, I brought my truck in and Alan did exactly what I asked, no BS. The truck ran amazing and even shifted even more amazing. Fast forward a few months, and the truck blew a head gasket and sat for an extended period of time. My worn out 4L60e lost 2nd gear so Alan suggested we install a 4L65e instead for my purposes. I'm glad I took his recommendation because the truck feels greater than ever. We took our daughter's 2006 Lexus GS300 to Alan for transmission problems. After trying to fix it very economically, he determined it needed a new transmission. After installing a new one, he determined that the computer was damaged and needed replacement or repair. The dealer cost for a new one was astronomical. Alan was very creative, and acquired a used computer for a fraction of the cost, but we needed to spend a few hundred to program the computer and keys. The car runs great, and even though we spent a lot on a new transmission and a used computer, I am sure glad we went to Alan. He genuinely cares about his customers and doing the right thing. Alan at Kwik Shift is a Grand Master @ transmission repair. My wife's 2004 Five Series BMW developed a hesitation when accelerating. Our regular repair shop determined it was the transmission. They suggested taking it into the BMW dealer as they don't work on transmissions. That was a waste of time. The dealers suggestion (after having the car for 6 days), was to replace the transmission at a cost of more than $10,000. My reply was to forget it. I picked the car up, drove to Quik Shift. Alan drove the car with me in it to get a feel for what it was doing and had a couple ideas what was causing it. We left the car with him. The very next day he called in the afternoon and said he had good news. He had determined what part(s) were faulty, replaced them and it operates as good as ever. The total cost was less than 1/5 of what the BMW dealer wanted. I don't wish transmission issues on anyone, but if you get them, no one is better than Alan in determining the possible cause of the problem, then doing the work, getting it done and his prices are really reasonable. read more

The reviews for this place were spot on. I called about half dozen transmission repair places and Alan demonstrated the most confidence and experience and offered a very fair price and warranty. I had my Acura TL towed to his shop on the weekend. When they opened monday they tore it apart and found a real mess. He provided a quote which included complete rebuild and update kits necessary. He provide updates daily by text. He discovered motor mounts were bad so suggested I replace them while transmission was out so we did. Had car completely running again by end of the week (they had to replace yet another motor mount they discovered bad, else 3 days). Alan took time to explain all options and the entire process and never tried to upsell us. he stayed within his estimate except for additional parts need for motor mounts. Overall these guys are experienced and more importantly they are honest and would highly recommend to anyone looking to get transmission work done. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! I had a clutch done about a year ago, I drive very very easy on this clutch too and after a year and two months it goes out; just two months after the warranty ended! So i go back to Alan(the owner) and ask him if there was anything i could do and he said he could sell me a new clutch for a bit cheaper which was what i wasn't looking for. igo in there just asking for a number for me to contact the manufacturer and he startes to get angry, as if he didn't put in the correct parts that he was supposed to. and he said to me "get out of my office, you're pissing me off"....im still in the process of figuring out how to get this bastard out of working under nice peoples cars but for now, do not go to him!!!!! read more

Simply the best transmission shop in the tri valley area and possibly the bay area. I spoke with many shops and did my research before calling Kwik Shift. When I spoke with Allen, his quote with well under the other shops ($500 - $1000+) and I could tell he was an expert on transmissions. TIP - these guys actually rebuld the transmimssions themselves which saves you money. Most shops just pull them and send them to guys like Allen and then upcharge you for the rebuild. Bottom line: cheapest and best with amazing customer service. they got my car done in just a few days and it shifts like butter! smoothest clutch and transmission i have ever felt. i'm sold for life on this shop and if you don't at least call them for a quote you are wasting time and probably a lot of money too! read more

The Transmission in my work truck lost overdrive. I called Alan and he said bring it in and they would have a look. He gave he a run down on the best and worse case scenario. I dropped it off on Friday morning and by Monday it was ready. They had to rebuild the transmission and knew I needed it.
