It's been five years now since my rebuild and I would like to report that my transmission still shifts well. I recently had a check engine light illuminate (P0750). Mohammed's team performed diagnostics and found a damaged wire touching the exhaust heat shield. I had the transmission serviced at the same time. This shop is extremely knowledgeable on transmission repair for a fair price. Recommend read more

Although I appreciate that they didn't charge a diagnostic fee, I'm really disappointed with my experience. I brought my car in due to an intermittent gear slipping issue, which I had already traced to a solenoid problem--a very common issue with my Pontiac G6. The symptoms only occurred twice, very briefly. My check engine light came on both times but turned off on its own. I was still able to drive the car on the freeway at full speed with no issues. The problem only showed up during city stop-and-go traffic. I specifically asked if they could just replace the solenoid, and was told no. Instead, I was told I "only had gears 1 and 2" and that I'd need a $4,800 transmission rebuild--which is objectively false, as I literally drove the car 70+ mph on the freeway both before and after leaving the shop. My engine light was off before coming to the shop, turned on once at the shop, then turned back off shortly after leaving. There is no way my car had only gears 1 & 2 I know what that feels like as it happened twice briefly. So to say this to me is insane. Mind you wouldn't have been able to go more than 25 with out the car struggling they must have assumed I don't know a thing about cars. Possibly because I'm a woman and I went alone. They also claimed the solenoid was too difficult to access without replacing the computer and warned me about my car's mileage, as if that meant it wasn't worth fixing. But then, on my way out, they admitted it's a "really great car" and "this is the only issue." It felt manipulative. I decided to trust my gut, went to a different shop, and had the solenoid replaced--and now my car runs perfectly fine. No rebuild needed. If I hadn't known what I was talking about, they would've gladly let me spend thousands on a completely unnecessary repair. Trust yourself. Do your research. Don't let fear-based upselling push you into something you don't need. Also from reading the reviews it sounds like the routinely tell their customers they need a rebuild and successfully do the rebuild. (more than likely something very easily replaceable) However a good transmission shop doesn't just rebuild, they properly and honestly diagnose and repair. He also tried selling me cars on the way out. Notice how he hasn't replied to this yelp review and also told me he feels bad for me in the text? Very unprofessional I don't need your pitty I needed honesty which I didn't get from this shop. He also told me don't buy a used car you can't guarantee you won't have problems it's best if you fix this one with us. Also told me not to go to another shop because id want a local shop lol read more

Salim, Rudy and the rest of the guys are nothing short of awesome. I needed my transmission rebuilt and they went above and beyond by knocking out this job in record time. After the job was done I did have a minor issue which they took care of right away. My car is back on the road and working damn near like new and it's all because of Legacy Transmissions. I will be taking my car back there for any type of service they can provide! read more

My husband drives a 2000 Chevy Silverado and got an error code for his transmission. He's already had his transmission rebuilt in 2017 once and was hoping it hasn't taken a crap already. He took it in to another shop here in RWC. The guy just said "it's toast, it's $6k to replace it" and blew him off. We wanted a 2nd opinion and found Legacy Transmission on Yelp so my husband called and spoke with Salim the next day. Salim was super accommodating and told my husband to bring it over, he'll try to get to it when he can (they were extremely busy when my husband went to their shop). Within maybe an hour or two, Salim and his team had already tore apart my husband's transmission and told him "I'm sorry, it's done". He sent my husband photos and had a thorough discussion of his findings. My husband is an ex-mechanic so he understood everything he spoke about in technical terms. Salim gave him a quote on another rebuild but my husband does not want to put in another transmission (even as much as he loves his truck) because the truck is old. Salim also recommended against it but wanted to give my husband the option. My husband said Salim is one of the most honest, kind, courteous, reasonably affordable, knowledgeable and accommodating gentleman he's met in a long time in this industry. He was so impressed by Salim, he said he will back by when he purchases another vehicle for Salim to inspect. Salim said "bring it on by". My truck is also a 2008 Silverado and when it's time for my transmission to be serviced, we are DEFINITELY bringing it back to Salim! We also both work for (competing) industrial HVAC companies and have fleets of vehicles. We were both impressed by Legacy that we are going to highly recommend to both of our companies to take our company vehicles here. It's so hard to find an honest company anymore that's not trying to rip you off and Legacy Transmission is the REAL DEAL!!!!! Bring your vehicle here, you won't be disappointed. Thank you Salim and Legacy Transmission! read more

Salim is the owner I worked with. We have a 2018 Ford Focus that needed a transmission clutch repair. Ford did not have parts and wouldn't even give an estimate for when they could do the job. I did the research and found the needed parts on Amazon and EBay. I also needed to learn/run the ForScan software on my PC Laptop to run the TCM thru its routines to complete the clutch replacement adjustments. Salim was willing to do the job with my parts and required tool set. Plus he allowed me to do the TCM setup/adjustments in the shop using the Forscan software. Bottom line is the Focus is now running great at a very reasonable price. Thank you Legacy Transmissions for working with me and the car to get this done!!! read more

I decided to take my car here to get a second opinion from the dealership. I was really relieved to talk to mechanics that were interested in fixing my issues rather than run up a diagnostic bill. I was happy with the value and service that I received. read more

I came here for an estimate/2nd opinion after my car had some transmission issues. The staff was very responsive and communicative via Yelp. I was happy with the service we were provided in person and they were quite accommodating. My transmission was previously worked on by another shop, and they insisted we file a warranty claim with them instead of just taking our money as most other places probably would have. Honest mechanics are not always easy to find so give these guys a call. read more

Very professional and nice. We were between a rock and a hard place and they gave us an honest second opinion on our transmission that was on its way out. I'd recommend anybody go here first with any transmission needs. read more

I have a 72 chevy c10 with a 700R4 transmission. The tranny was purchased out of state. Tranny had less than 5,000 miles on it. (Never again, the company is no longer in business). It would not shift out of 2nd gear into 3rd or 4th. I dropped off the tranny after talking to Mr Salim. He figured out the problem and it needed rebuilding. This guy is so pleasant and professional. He had my tranny rebuilt within the two week time frame we discussed. He beefed it up with great parts and it runs like a champ. Nice crisp firm shifts which is exactly what we discussed and the overdrive switch works perfect. (I had him leave it where I could manually shift to od). I have a nice warranty and he told me any issues just give him a call. I now have my own local tranny expert and with over 40 years in the business. If you need any tranny work done on your old school. Please go see Mr Salim, you won't be disappointed. He's the real deal. Thank you Mr Salim and the Legacy Transmission Team for a job well done. I had my daughter's car looked at a couple of times at Legacy Transmissions and Salim evaluated her car twice within a year until her transmission required to be replaced. The procedure was very smooth, I gave a deposit and then a transmission was prepared and we picked up the car two days later. As everyone knows transmissions seem to be the most complicated part to fix in any vehicle. All I can say is if you have any concerns about your transmission, do not hesitate to take your vehicle to Legacy and ask for Salim who will be honest with the condition of your vehicle, read more

This is a high quality auto repair shop run by people who know what they are doing. Salim and Rudy are very honest and they did a great job on my 20 years old BMW. My original mechanic told me that I needed a new transmission. I didn't trust the diagnosis and took my BMW to Legacy Transmissions. They were meticulous and made the diagnosis that a burned wire shorted the computer panel that regulated my transmission. My transmission was fine. They fixed the wire and replace the computer panel and the car runs again. They saved me from getting an unnecessary rebuild transmission and over $4000+. I would highly recommend Legacy Transmissions. They repair everything, in addition to transmissions. read more

Salim, The owner of the shop, was by far the most honest person I've ever come across with when it comes to automotive repair. I called seven other businesses to get a quote for a replacement on my 2010 Chevy suburban transmission, and not only was Salim The best price, but he took the time to correctly diagnose that the transmission was indeed the issue and he also fixed a couple other damaged parts for my car that were discovered and only charged me the cost for the part! He turned it around at an extremely quick rate as well which was helpful because in our family it's the only car large enough to transport us all. If you're reading this review I would definitely recommend this business for transmission repair read more

I had one of the best experiences I ever had with a repair job with Legacy transmission. The owner shalieve was very very very helpful. He was also very responsive with answering my questions and answering phone calls. He built a transmission for my 1998 Toyota Land Cruiser and he is the only shop in the Bay Area that came highly recommended for my vehicle. While inst my transmission I ran into problems and he walked me through the problems step by step. I would definitely send my sister or my mom there and feel comfortable that they would get a great deal and service from Legacy transmission. read more

My transmission light came on as I was driving home from work on a Friday night and I got really nervous. My car is pretty old but in very good condition. Of course I looked online to check and see what the transmission light could mean and I immediately got more nervous since I was going to drive to LA in a couple days with my family. I messaged a couple of shops around where I lived and a lot of them got back to me but Mohammed was the one I chose to do business with for one, he accommodated me last minute on a Saturday and two, he was so easy to talk too! He was so helpful and figured out what was going on and made sure my car got fixed right away. I would definitely recommend him to my family and friends! Definitely will be coming back! read more

I am just adding to all the great reviews. I consider myself a car guy and this place is legit. Every great review you read is true. I brought in my 2006 Acura TL with a blown transmission, Muhammed "Bless this man" was honest, answered all my questions from my research I found on the internet. He did the job exactly how it should be done and he added a transmission cooler which my car did not come with. I have put 16k miles on the rebuilt transmission and no problems. He finished my job ahead of schedule and on budget. Also note they rebuild transmissions for several automotive shops. I got the recommendation from a local hot rod club in Castro Valley which means old or new cars he has got you covered. Thank you for being honest and hard working. read more

My 2014 Subaru Outback had already been in two different shops for the failed diagnostics of three flashing warning lights before I apprehensively made an appointment with Legacy Transmission. However, I could tell right away that I was in good hands with Salim. His shop is clean, bright and well organized, and his mechanics are friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, the diagnostics pointed to a major costly transmission issue! Salim immediately put everything into perspective and offered to make sure I could get the best deal available by doing some preliminary research on resources for potential necessary parts. How kind of him, he will genuinely work with you, generously donate his time to mitigate the costs - there is no other like him! Thank you, Salim. read more

Our 109,000 mile 2013 VW Jetta needed a transmission. Seems like this is a problematic issue with these transmissions. We had several shops look at our car and give us estimates but no one seemed to be thoroughly knowledgable nor capable. After doing our due diligence, Mo was our man. Not only was he extremely knowledgeable as to the process his estimate was very reasonable as compared to others. We had to wait for awhile before he was able to take us in, but as the saying goes give a busy person a job to do and it'll be done right. Without a doubt Mo and his crew did a superb job!
