Schuck's was GREAT!! I had taken my car to a different place and they said I needed a whole new transmission and it was gonna cost a pretty penny (actually a LOT of pennies!!!). I took it to Schuck's and they gave me an HONEST examination! We test drove it together and he experienced the weird pulsating acceleration I was having when the automatic transmission shifted gears, and deducted all I needed to solve the issue I was having was to completely flush my dirty transmission fluid and replace it!! He said if that didn't work, THEN they'd see if I really needed a new transmission. We did the flush, it was a FRACTION of the cost the other folks quoted me and it's been running great ever since!! Great service, fair price, but wish I knew about the card fee. I brought in my 2015 Toyota Sienna for a full transmission service--pan drop, new filter, fresh fluid, the whole works. The team at Schuck's was fast, professional, and thorough. They even scanned my car and noted some diagnostic codes without trying to upsell me on anything unnecessary, which I really appreciated. The service itself was solid and priced very fairly--especially for a specialty shop. They used Mobil 1 synthetic ATF and took the time to do the job right (not just a drain and fill), replaced filter, cleaned pan, etc. My car drives great now and I left feeling confident in the work. Only reason I'm docking a star is the surprise $14+ "credit card processing fee"--even though I used a debit card. I had no idea there'd be an extra charge, and it wasn't mentioned up front. If I'd known, I would've brought cash. Just a heads-up to other customers, bring cash! Otherwise, highly recommend Schuck's if you want quality work without dealership-level prices. This place is epitome of what integrity is all about . I was refered to this place by my AAA driver, who said that this is the only place he goes to have his transmissions worked on. I set an appointment, had my 66 international harvester towed there. He said straight. "Although we like working on older transmissions, getting parts can be tough. Just so you're aware." He made it very clear. Doug, was the guy who helped me. I felt like he was the owner, but not sure. He treated me like an owner would treat someone. They diagnosed the problem pretty quickly. And although they didn't ultimately fix it he was honesty the whole way through the diagnostic part and wasn't willing to put a patch job DIY youtube video to fix the problem. He even had the integrity not the o charge me for the diagnostic part. I can't say enough about this place's integrity. Pretty expensive @ $197 to do simple stuff like drain and fill a diff. Seems like they could charge A bit less Rate for drain and fill vs trans service. In 1985-1986, I watched a Schuck's transmission mechanic reassemble a transmission. I knew right then and there that, even though I was a mechanic, I did not want get into that! There were what looked like hundreds of rings, parts and pieces. Schuck's had a shop in Fremont then was located in the same building I worked in as a cooling systems tech! I saw them at the drag strip in Fremont, racing a dragster! In fact they still do according to Doug at Schuck's in Dublin! Yep. Pictures on the wall decorating the office, drag racing. My favorite auto sport! When my 2002 GMC transmission bit the bullet, I only needed their phone number. I talked to Doug, then took my baby in. I received a phone call PDQ, a day and a half, and was told my truck is ready! I picked it up, drove it home and I couldn't be happier! I had the privilege of meeting Ed, the owner of this institution! He was cooler than I imagined. He took some time and we talked for a while about some history. His shop has been around for over 40 years and there's a damn good reason. You stay in business for over 40 years by providing a professional product. Sold, installed and maintained by people who know what they're doing They care about the long term performance of what they sell. If you have an older/custom car, this is the place- I went to a transmission shop in Walnut Creek who wouldn't touch my truck, as it has a '79 Turbo350, which is fully manual, and they referred me to Shuck's (most shops will only now deal with the electronically controlled transmissions). When I had it towed in, they moved me to the front of the line, as it was a custom (extremely gladly, as I didn't want my truck to sit in a shop, or worse, outside overnight, and neither did they). I thought I knew what the problem was, and they found exactly what it was, and I had it back the same day. In hopes that someone could finally fix what was already a once rebuilt transmission, Jeff and his team were outstanding. They did fantastic work. After a previous rebuild, I was referred to Schucks by a guy at a local automotive shop. From the moment i called, the customer service at Schucks was professional and personable. That standard was set with the first phone call and maintained until my truck was ready for pick up. They kept me informed along the way and completed the job in a timely manner. I love when people underpromise and over-deliver. For what it's worth, there are plenty of other transmission shops where I live, but its worth it for me to drive an hour out of my way to make sure the job not only gets done right, but that I support good people. They've earned a customer for life. FWIW- I have a 700r4 transmission in a cammed 350sbc. Most hot rod guys are scared to bring their cars to places unknown. I had a rebuilt transmission installed by Schuck's when my 1997 F-250 Powerstroke Tranny failed at 94,000 miles for the second time after another ships repairs only lasted one month after their warranty, and they said sorry, it's not our problem. The speed and service as well as the price was very amazing!! It's my daily driving work truck and I was back to work in under ten days even with the rebuild having to be completed to order and being shipped from Ohio!! Simply amazing efficiency!! At 106,000 miles the tranny started to nit hold overdrive, so I brought it back and turned out the computer that communicates between engine and tranny was fried. Being they don't make this part any longer finding a used one is becoming nearly impossible!! Rebuilding it would be extremely expensive and take over a month!! So Schuck's knowing I NEED a working truck to keep the kids fed has a specialty computer custom built that usually would be for older hot rods with new tranny technology installed. They have solved this common issue and it's been working AMAZING!! So I cannot recommend them more!! I did my research and Schuck's is the best transmission shop in the SF Bay Area. I have had two vehicles brought here for remanufactured transmissions and have had excellent customer service and results at a fair price. First, some definitions: Remanufactured transmissions have about 90% new parts. This is nearly new. Typically you will get a 3 year/ 36,000 mile warranty. (Around $3,800) Rebuilt transmissions have about 50% new parts and usually get a 12 month / 12,000 mile warranty. (Around $3,200) After checking many many many shops in the SF Bay Area, the only shop I found that installs remanufactured transmissions is Schuck's. You get a better product when you go remanufactured with a much longer warranty. The staff are top notch. Jeff knows this business and has very fair prices. At my request, they installed an external transmission cooler and additional inline filter on my minivan, which keeps the transmission running like new. It has been about 2 years and 30,000 miles with no issues. I'm really satisfied with my transmission, the workmanship, and the custom cooler. It was worth towing my van the 40 miles to Schuck's to have it repaired. #1!!!!!!! read more
