I received a synthetic blend oil change which included a free 30 point inspection. It was around $32 total. I made an appointment, and my car was ready an hour later. They texted me a link to my inspection report, which included pictures of my car, some online videos for clarification, and their recommendations. I went in knowing I had a problem with my coolant and the mechanic showed me a hairline crack on my radiator where it was leaking. He answered all my questions, and did a great job of explaining why it's an urgent fix. I drive a 96 Camry with less than 128k miles. They quoted me $820 for the fix, and let's be honest, my car is probably only worth double that. I shopped online and found the same model radiator for $80, and picked it up the next day. With the help of YouTube, I was able to replace it myself and bleed out my coolant system. It took research and an entire afternoon but I got it done on my own. This shop used to be two separate shops. One focused on smog and the other no auto repairs. Jake was a BMW mechanic and was really knowledgeable. He did great work. Then they merged with the smog business and repair work is no longer done by Jake exclusively. The quality of work degraded noticeably. The same problem needed to be repaired over and over again. Also noticed they use cheap parts from China. Looks like they gave in to the pressure of cost reduction and compromised quality for profit. I have since lost confidence with this shop. They may still be good for smog checks, but I would not bring my car to them for repairs anymore. There are so many smog check places around that I really do not have the need to go there after the bad experiences. Very unfortunate because Jake used to be really good at what he does. read more

The last time I had my oil change here. The technician did not reset the oil change code. I thought no big deal, as I think they will do it this time around. I ask and they refused. After months of driving, I had other service code that arises. I ask them if they can reset them as well. It's a simple process, but they won't not reset it. Even the oil A1 code they did not reset. Also, they don't care about your car as they dirty up the leather door handles and seats and arm rest. They don't it down floor paper as there oil grease boots are rubbed into your car carpet. They also leave oil stains on your engine compartment from the oil change. Cheap price does not mean bad service. I will not be going to them further on. More to the first post... I just received a voice mail from the owner. Threatening and swearing words. As you see in his reply. It's very threatening. If you think I made the bad service up. Feel free to bring your car there to service. Check how they DONT USE service mats for there nasty oil boots. Check your steering wheel and center console and door arm rest. They leave oil stains you have to clean back yourself. Check under your hood. Oil stains on areas they touch. NO CLEAN UP. On top of it. I believe they blast my air conditioning and radio while servicing the car. PM if any want to hear the OWNER nasty Voice mail left to me. JUST WOW. Bad business. I also requested a quote for a timing belt replacement (LS430) and the quote was 25% less than the dealer. I needed to smog my truck and the usual place I go wasn't available at the time so I tried this place, they failed my truck and I won't bore you with a long story, but I went to the California referee and they passed it right away without doing anything else. So disappointed. Just came back from a maintenance service, and I feel like I've been had. I've been coming here for my car care (oil changes, maintenance, smog checks) for almost two years. I used to like it here because I felt like I could trust these guys. I'm happy business is growing, but there are some changes I don't like: 1. Instead of getting one quote up front before the start of work, I ended up getting 3 quotes for different things (the first one was for the maintenance, which is what I came in for. The second quote was for replacing the filter. The third quote for changing my spark plugs and doing a brake fluid and power steering flush). I was never given one total cost for all these services, I just had to add everything in my head as each thing came up (which I thought was going to be around $300, but the total came up to $465 -- I obviously either missed something or things weren't communicated properly). My fault for not asking for the GRAND TOTAL and just agreeing to everything (again, because I used to trust these guys). 2. Since when has there been an extra charge for an oil change when you are having a maintenance service performed? I've always been used to paying the quoted maintenance fee, which included the oil change. Today, I was charged $130 for the maintenance, and an additional $24.95 for the oil change. The initial maintenance quote was given to me verbally, and I wasn't told that the oil change would be a separate charge. All I was told was that the "maintenance service is usually $130, but since you have a Honda, I will drop it to $95." He never even stood by his word, and I wasn't even the one who asked for a discount to begin with. Get EVERYTHING IN WRITING before any work is done! 3. While I waited for my car (2 hours total, completely expected on my part), I saw about 4 people get turned away for smog checks near the end of the day (between 3:30 to 4 PM). The lesson here is to call in advance to make sure they can take you (although I did overhear 2 customers say that they had called and been told to go in, and yet, they were turned away still). 4. The salesman pitch. I trust you when you tell me my spark plugs need to be changed, but why did you recommend to do that when on my "Owner's Manual" it says to replace spark plugs when the Maintenance Minder number is "4" and mine was only at "1" (tire rotation)? Again, my fault for going along with it, but again, I trusted your recommendation. 5. More salesman pitch because I'm a girl. Did I really need a power steering and brake fluid flush? I forgot that they used to always try to up-sell me on these services at Oil Changers, but I thought you were better than that, so again, I trusted your recommendation and went along with it. So basically, I went in for an oil change plus a basic maintenance (just checking fluid levels + tire rotation according to my "Owner's Manual"), but walked out paying $465 for all the extras they recommended -- new spark plugs, brake fluid flush, and power steering flush. I'm happy to pay if I really needed all these extras, but my gut feeling tells me I've been up-sold and taken for a fool. Advice to the business owner: run your business the way you used to (honestly), and you will make more money that way (by retaining customers) rather than by making unnecessary recommendations. read more

I am not sure how this place got 4.5 stars. I went there twice to get a Smog Check for two different cars. I had no problem with the 1st vehicle. An older gentleman did the smog and was very thorough and the car passed with no problem. The 2nd time I went, a younger guy did the test and I was told that the car failed the smoke test. I thought that was unusual since it had just passed a smog test 6 months earlier. They told me it would cost $195 for a diagnostic. I went to the California Automotive Repair site and read how the test is performed. My brother and I did the test and detected zero smoke. I took it to a Mechanic and explained the situation, he had me rev the motor and told me I did not have any problems. He suggested I take it to a Smog only shop and it passed with no problem. Just letting people know they might not want to just assume these guys are right. I can't even begin to guess what they thought they saw but I wasted the cost of the test and I can say it wasn't even a borderline case of maybe there was smoke...clearly there was none as supported by two different businesses. read more

NOTE: I did not get a SMOG check here. So I have had probably THE absolute worst SMOG experience EVER, and this was just one in a long line of frustrations. As for why 2 stars? They say they open till 6 M-Fri. But if you show up after 5, they don't take any more cars. Its like going to starbucks at 9:30pm, and they close at 10, but they turn you away, because they really close at 9, and they are cleaning up during the last hour. The reason why I was going to come here. I saw a $16.75 coupon + cert and how can I pass that up? I got off work early on a Thursday so that I could SMOG the car. I tried calling a few times, the phone was busy, so I decided to just drive there. I live fairly close, so it wasn't a big deal. Well. with traffic, etc, what should have been a 10 minute drive took over 20 each way. I was there shortly after 5:00, and I was told that they don't take cars in after 5:00, come back tomorrow. WHAT! Really? This is how a 5 star establishment treats it potential clients? They are STAR certified, and their yelp reviews are great. So I assume they probably do good work. But for me, I'll guess I'll never know. TIP: M-Fri, they don't take cars after 5:00, so show up early. read more

AVOID THIS PLACE. I needed to get a smog check to renew my vehicle registration. I found a Valpak coupon for this place and it seemed to have the cheapest price in my area. Turned out to be too good to be true. My vehicle failed the smog check but not because of the smog. I was told to fix the issue and come back. They should have checked the issue before charging me for a smog check but they said they have to "go in blind." Unfortunately, I will still have to pay the fee for a smog check IF I ever come back again. In my experience, other shops in this area have given a free smog check if you come back after fixing the issue. Very uncool. read more

California makes it so difficult to have this very basic service done, that most other states make super easy and auto shops don't try to rip you off (really, $70-100 for a quick visual inspection, hooking up a couple cables and pressing a couple buttons?!?!) Enough of that...these guys were great. They have coupon specials, but if you don't have one and have some pocket cash, ask for a cash price. They'll offer you a great deal. No appointments, and probably took about an 1:15 - 1:30 from when I walked up to out the door...about 3 people ahead of me. Also consider coming here for an oil change. Even if you're a DIY kind of person like me if may make sense once every 2 or 3 oil changes. Their prices are great (I think it was $25 conventional, $40 semi-synth), and they do a quick under-vehicle inspection while they are there, something you'd probably pay $60-80 alone without also getting an oil change. The place is a little hard to find. When you turn into the automotive repair complex, it's at the very end. Fortunately, one of the workers was outside and directed me to their place. The smog check only took about 10-15 minutes. It was exactly $25 cash (NOTE: the coupon says you have to pay in cash), with everything included. They sent the certificate electronically to the DMV and I paid my registration on-line. I got my sticker in the mail. No issues whatsoever. The reviews on the price mix-ups for repairs are likely communication issues and not blatant dishonesty. Yes, I agree that you should get a written quote before repair work or expensive maintenance. When I was waiting for my smog check, I overheard one of the employees convincing a customer over the phone NOT to go through with a repair, because it was expensive and his car wasn't worth that much. Jake and his daughter are good salt of the earth people. This is a review of my experience with fixing my headlight for my '08 Acura TL type S. First time I brought it in, Jake was honest and charged me only for half the labor cost to put in an HID lightbulb I brought from O'reilly. It turned out to be the fuse and replaced it for free. My car battery dies and the HID lightbulb dies again. I bring it to Pleasanton Smog and Repair for a follow up and I bring another HID headlight. Jake charges for full labor cost and tells me after an hour of work the headlight might need to be replaced as the fuse and lightbulb did not fix the problem. He sits down and discusses that it may take some body work since my fender had been dented and may affect the placement of the headlight. So we make plans to to meet up in a week to bring the car in and get it fixed. I send over my insurance estimate/claim and have Jake contact my adjuster if any other item needs to be covered. Comes Friday, I bring my vehicle from San Francisco to get it fixed. He then tells me, he actually can't do this type of body repair and I should bring it next door to Chilton. Jake's experienced, and I couldn't figure out why he couldn't tell me throughout any phone conversations before having me drive 30 miles to tell me he couldn't fix it. Then I find out I'd have to have my car stay for several weekdays to let the paint dry and make sure parts fitted. I live in San Francisco, and I was hoping to either get it fixed today or know ahead of time that it would take this much time. He seems an honest and reputable mechanic. But communication is a must. Even when you're very busy; find the time to spend a minute and update your customers. For smogs, I might still bring my car if I come visit Pleasanton. Both shops put dye into the systems and both said there was no evidence of any water pump leak!!! At the time, they told me to take a walk around downtown because it'll take about an hour or so, so I was not watching them.
