I take all three of my vehicles here for inspection and oil changes. Today I had a full synthetic change and noticed a $40 upcharge. I asked why and the tech just shrugged his shoulders. I don't like the fact that they are upcharging an oil change because that's just how basic it is. I'm paying extra for the oil, so why the $40 upcharge in labor. It doesn't take anymore to do the job. You're trying to get to us, the customers! I don't like it. To be clear, a regular oil change would have been $39.99 but because I wanted synthetic oil, which I would happily pay for because it's a bit more, I get hit with a $40 labor upcharge. read more

Unfortunately for me, "Kwik Kar" was slow car for me. I got there at 1:10pm on Aug. 14th, 2023, and they quoted a long wait time of 1:30 to 1:45 hours for a yearly vehicle inspection. I had the time so I decided to wait. I saw them move my car after 1 1/2 hours, so I figured we were on schedule. Sadly, it just sat in the back for the next hour and 20 minutes. I hadn't left a key for my son for when he got home from school, since that wasn't until 4:10pm, and I didn't think they could possibly give me an estimate that would be a factor of 2 off. Needless to say, I had to take my car before it even got looked at, so technically I can't complain about the services, since there weren't any. I think the guys in the garage are working very efficiently. My beef is with the guy in the front office. Basically, I took an entire afternoon off of work and got nothing for it. And now I have to do it again somewhere else to get my inspection! If I could give a rating of zero stars I would. read more

These folks are legit, they're nice, they quote over the phone unlike so many shops in Austin and never hicccups in the service. First time visit to Kwik Kar, took my car in for a state inspection. Before I could even reach the front door, the owner greeted me with a smile and asked what they could help with. *What a nice guy!* Handed over my keys. Chilled in their fancy waiting room equipped with what appears to be a coffee bar. It was basically a lounge up in there. Fancy couches and chairs. Making me feel like I'm at a castle or somethin. Called about a transmission fluid change on my daughter's 2014 Acura MDX. They checked to ensure they had the proper fluid to do it and said come on down. Having done this before myself on other Honda vehicles I know the fluid runs about $60.. retail. Got there and they pulled her car right in & got to work. There system allows them to flush fresh fluid thru the cooler & transmission as well. They were done in about 20 minutes as promised & did not try to upsell me on other items. I needed to make sure my car was safe to drive from Austin to Houston. So I went to Firestone on William Cannon. When their representative informed me they wouldn't be able to service my car until 6 maybe 7 pm my heart sank. However, It is completely understandable since it is the Friday before Christmas. I remembered my boyfriend recommended this place! So I quickly made my way over! I was greeted immediately by Cheyenne who patiently explained my choices. I was able to change my oil, top off my fluids, get my tires checked, and change a rear light bulb all under thirty minutes! Definitely recommend this place! I take our Hondas here when we need an oil change, or a state inspection. For major services/repair/recalls, we take our cars to the also excellent Howdy Honda. Kwik Kar is nearby for us, and we like them a lot. This place has a nice staff, honest turn around time, wonderful waiting room with comfortable seating, free wifi, clean bathrooms, an immaculate child play area, and even a dog friendly policy with a dog park out back. I feel like Kwik Kar is one of those nice businesses to discover where their plan is to be as excellent at what they do as they can, and then make their living by being popular with repeat customers as a reward, instead of trying to underpay and mistreat their employees and aggressively upsell or even flat out heat their customers. And there really are a lot of sleazy car places out there sadly, on that second, wrong business plan. The people there all seem polite, hard working, and happy to be working there. They are great about estimating your wait and repair time even when they are busy, and I don't think they have ever tried to push me into doing some repair or service I did not need. Had a less than stellar experience here today, and need to document the events for future potential liability. When I got the phone call about my oil change being completed, the man on the phone said "oh by the way, it looks like you may need a new oil pan in the next couple oil changes. It looks ok for now, but just letting you know". I said "Well I have never heard of needing a new oil pan at 76k miles, those are supposed to last - was this a technician issue?" He says - "Oh no, you know these new aluminum pans, sometimes the threads wear out". I said "Ok, I'll be right there but please pull me a quote for what you think I may need." He said ok. When I arrive, Wil the manager meets me at checkout and I ask "why would I need a new oil pan unless your techs over-torqued the plug"? Suddenly, the story changes to "It was just the plug was going in at an angle, it should be fine. He should not have said anything about the threads being stripped. If it were my car, I wouldn't worry about it". I asked for something in writing. Then as I looked at the screen, I noted that it had already been populated with "WILL NEED NEW OIL PAN IN FUTURE". Wil quickly noticed this as well - I watched him delete this text (not an exaggeration - this happened) and change the comment to "plug appeared to be going in at slight angle. Wil Turner (Manager) plug went in by hand. did not have to force. tightened to torque spec. no leaks. no issues at this time." I asked where the quote for the oil pan replacement was, and Wil said I do not need it. Now of course I want to believe Wil, but there is a LOT of evidence here that suggests my pan was damaged and I am going to have a potential catastrophic leak, and/or need for a new/repaired oil pan in the future. NOTE: I have only taken my truck to the dealership (for first year) and Kwik Kar ever since for oil changes (I have the records) and it has not been in any accident that would otherwise damage the oil pan. Therefore, the only logical explanation for the man on the phone to mention the oil pan is that it he noticed it had been damaged by a previous Kwik Kar tech, or was damaged during this visit due to over-tightening/cross-threading. If that is the case, and I end up needing a replacement pan (or engine in worst-case!) I hope that Kwik Kar/Oil Changers will be accountable for their work the way that Wil claims, and not expect me to pay the additional costs related to their damage. read more

Short version: I just had my first oil change at Kwik Kar Southwest. I was in and out in 56 minutes, from the time I parked my car until I left their parking lot...and it seemed to be during their busy time. I paid $83.73 for a full synthetic oil change. Everyone was friendly and they were pretty quick while also being thorough. Extended version: I only waited in their lobby for about 2 minutes before a technician noticed me and asked what I needed, took my key, and put me on the waiting list. Once they had my car pulled into the garage, it being my first time there, they brought me a form to fill out with my information and service requests for that day. In the future, they will assume I am getting the same service (full synthetic oil) unless I request otherwise. Next time, no forms. I'm always concerned a garage will charge me for synthetic oil and use conventional instead, but KK parked my car right near the lobby window and I was able to see that they did in fact use synthetic oil in my car. Once they finished the oil change, they took out my cabin filter and air filter and showed them to me. I was aware that they needed changing, but they quoted my something like $48 to change them and I told them I'd get some myself. I spent $33 at Advance Auto Parts instead; saved $15. The cashier was quick to get the bill paid, and sent me on my way with invoice and keys in hand. When I got in my car, I realized they had done a quick detail of the interior, and had cleaned the exterior windows. I usually change my own synthetic oil for about $40, and Jiffy Lube has quoted me $90 for the same service. $80 at KK for the convenience of not having to jack up and climb under my car, and for a quick vacuum and window wiping, definitely seems worth it. I've been taking my vehicles here for years. When I found the place, Jules was the manager and couldn't have made my experiences better - including driving me home herself when I needed to leave the car there overnight. Unfortunately, she left to head back to school, and it's been in decline ever since. In the last 3 times I've been there, I've been treated terribly, talked down to, seriously worked over on upsells, and generally insulted. I have had to argue with the staff multiple times that I have a regular mechanic I take the vehicle to, and that we're working on fixing the obvious problems my old Jeep has. Each time, the employee gets pushy, even after I say "Please just do the oil change I came in for. That's all I need today." The last time I was checking out, he added snarky comments while I was signing the receipt. Which is why today, sadly, I'm on Yelp, looking for a new regular oil change business to switch to. I'll miss the nice interior, up to date magazines, and free hot tea. I'm looking forward to still smiling when I leave an oil change, though. read more

My first visit was an oil change and inspection. There was a 45 min wait on a Wed mid morning - early June. I just hung out in the lounge observing employee/customer interactions. I was so impressed with how the service reps never pressured customers into additional services. When they did find something that needed to be done, the convo was more informative and they provided a realistic time frame for when the repair/service needed to be completed. As for my own service, they were just as nice and didn't up-sell anything. I didn't need anything more than the service I came in for, but many other places "find" something that you need right then! I've never felt so comfortable with taking my car somewhere. After a bad experience somewhere else I had Kwik Kar check my car out. Not only is Lexi amazing with customer service and holding down the front of house, but Mike really took care of me and gave me piece of mind about the shop and my Grand Prix. Knowing that a shop will work with you like they did with me is worth any wait inside or having to drop the car for a few days. They had mine back in 2 days when it needed plenty of work. They get busy will oil changes and inspections but don't let that scare you away from letting them keep your car for a few days if you need real work done. ATTENTION LADIES!!! Need some work done on your car? THIS IS THE PLACE you want to go. No BS. I've been to my share of shanty car places but this one blew my mind it was so fantastic. First off, when I drove up, I was greeted by a WOMAN -- nicely dressed, too. Not that it should make a difference, but she instantly put me at ease. Secondly, the waiting area is like nothing I've ever seen before. It was like I was in someones living room and they have pretty decent decoration. Just the right amount of cozy -- leather couches, coffee table, up to date magazines, etc. Since this place exudes cleanliness and smells absolutely nothing like anything that would come out of or be put into a car, it automatically scored brownie points in my book. Third, the staff was really welcoming and just friendly. Not fake friendly, but genuinely friendly. "How are you doing today? Did you enjoy your time here?" It was a great experience. They do everything from brake jobs and oil changes to state inspections. Being a female who's somewhat intimidated of a car shop that's going to push products on me or make me wait in some makeshift "waiting area" with an 8-hour-old pot of coffee still hanging out in the coffee maker, this place put me totally at ease. Whatever it is in the future that I need done, I will be sure to make a stop at Kwik Kar before I dare go anywhere else. read more

Just moved from the Dallas area and loved my neighborhood Kwik Kar. Professional, wouldn't try and shove massive amounts of additional repairs down your throat, and a great waiting area. I drove to my new Kwik Kar in Austin to get an oil change. I got there 15 minutes before they were to close. They were checking to see if they could get me in. Really?! I am here before you close and you may be able to offer me service? Also, I went in and was quoted $80.00 for a synthetic oil change on my car. I paid $56.00 in Dallas. I called Dallas to check and I was indeed getting a full synthetic oil change at that price. I can't believe there would be such a huge price gap. I got back in my car and went and found a $60.00 synthetic oil change station . Kwik Kar Austin will not get my business! read more

Worst experience with an oil change in my entire history of owning a car. Not only was I quoted a wait of "less than an hour" which turned out to be 2 hours (not sure what sort of reckoning they are using for these quotes but its wildly inaccurate). Then, while I do acknowledge that not everyone drives a manual transmission, pulling the handbrake when parking is VITAL. And when the customer has to run to the parking lot to frantically pull her e-brake so that her car would not roll into their building, it shows a level of carelessness that seems to be unparalleled. Their response to my bringing this to their attention was just blank looks, dumb stares, and silence. Avoid this place if you value your car, if they can't handle the large important items, what will they miss of the details? What will they forget to put back and then respond to you with "oops"? I can not stress my displeasure enough with the lack of quality and service at this place. Truly, truly appalled. read more

I took my car to a car-shop in Houston this past weekend because I had to get my AC fixed, okay, when I say, I took my car, I mean my parents took my car. And when Vietnamese parents take cars to carshops they take them to those dinky-ghetto-look very Vietnamese carshops where the mechanics are either really young Viet "Azn" kids or really old Viet men who speak little English... but they're all awesome mechanics. Anyways, they told my oil's been leaking or something. What? I paid $40 for an oil-change to have it leaking this entire time when I took it to that other car-place who did my oil change for WAY cheaper. Like $10-20... I don't really know the exact price because my parents paid for it this round (hehehehe...) but they had said I was an idiot to go somewhere to get my oil changed for $40. read more

I've never been a fan of car inspections. I think that it goes back to the days where my old Honda Civic was in such bad shape that the homeless people on the 35 access roads would pull me over and give me money. I was always scared that the thing wouldn't pass inspection. Inevitably I waited until the last day of the month for my first inspection of my new car. I'm no big risk taker like Krishelle L so I didn't wait for my deadline to pass. Instead I left work at 4 and stopped at a nearby place. The first place I tried shot me down. Told me that they were too busy, noting that I called them 30 minutes earlier and said I was coming and they told me that was fine. Second place I was also shot down becuase they were too busy. Finally, I looked up Kwik Kar and gave them a call. They thought it was odd that I'd even be asking if they could "squeeze me in" and said come by anytime before they close and they will take care of me. I have never been in and out of one of these places faster, noting that they had several other customers there saying the same thing. The staff were more friendly than any of the others that I have seen out there, and their waiting area was more comfortable than the Jiffy Lubes of the world. One observation that I made while waiting was that their people were all in good moods and were all working hard. I saw them doing an oil change and they got the car done in like 10 minutes. It didn't take 3 guys to add more windshield washer fluid to the car. Most places treat your state inspection needs like something they will only do if the place is dead. Kwik Kar was more courteuous, and now I plan to try them out for oil changes and maintenence next. read more

I had about an hour to kill before an appointment in the vicinity and was in need of an oil change. Called ahead and was told that I'd more than likely be able to get in and out in that period of time, so I hightailed it to Kwik Kar. Upon my arrival, there were two cars before me, but they were going to try to fit my tight schedule. And they did. I was in and out in, maybe, 30 minutes. I felt like a huge jerk asking them to do things within that time frame, but everyone there that I encountered were VERY friendly and didn't seem too annoyed with the predicament. I'm guessing they may have been, but it didn't show. Or, maybe not, they didn't have to vacuum my somewhat disgusting car. It cost a little bit more than what I'm used to paying for oil changes, but I consider that a "convenience" fee. If I lived closer, I'd consider making this my go-to place for car fixes. read more

I pulled in the other day to get my yearly inspection done, asked "how long to wait?" and the guy said, "none!" even though they were busy doing repairs. I sat in the lovely space, read the latest Oprah mag (how to lose that last 10 lbs and still eat and drink ones way through life), ate a dark chocolate num- num, and was outta there within 10 minutes. These people are so incredible! Being from another city and a girl (usually, I don't play into all that but when it comes to cars, I'm pretty much lost ..which I should probably change) I had no idea what to do when my car kept acting weird whenever I'd try to start it. I figured out it was my starter - ok, I didn't figure it out, my friend did. I called Kwik Kar as well as several places and they quoted me a price at least $150 less than the others. I was driven from the shop to my work and back to pick up my car. The owners were really friendly and the shop was surprisingly VERY clean. Knocking off a star because my last oil change took entirely too long and required much frustration. They told me they could get me in and out in 30 minutes at the max. After reading in the waiting room and keeping an eye on the clock the mechanic came in a little over 30 minutes later. I thought he was coming to tell me he was done and I could get out of there. Instead he informed me that for the last half an hour he had been trying to locate the cap to my brake fluid reservoir because he had dropped it into my engine compartment and had been fishing around trying to find it. Wow. After another 45 minutes I was finally ready to go. Several days later I was driving around town when I happened to glance at my oil change sticker that reminds me when I'm due for my next service. Instead of putting the future date and future mileage for my next service date they had put the date and mileage of my previous hour-and-fifteen minute long oil change. Why would you do that? My first "I took your advice and went there" review!!!! So I woke up this morning and figured it was about time to get my cars oil changed, the odometers at about 65K and my last oil change was around 56K ( it takes the expensive castrol synthetic so 10k's about normal for the intervals) I hit the gym at my apartment complex and as always brought my trusty Macbook along for the ride. I saw the review for Kwik Kar and gave them a call. Just from the friendly voice on the other side of the phone I decided to venture into the unknown and give them a try. The results? This place is SUPERB! They only took about half an hour, did a far superior job then anyone at the Audi dealership ever did, and they even gave me a great recommendation for a european specialist in town that could do the big work if it ever came up. The technicians seem very knowledgeable and the price seemed fair ($69 but hey I only need it once a year..2 at most!) I'd recommend this place to anyone, they exceeded my expectations and set the bar high for their competition read more
