My first "I took your advice and went there" review!!!! So I woke up this morning and figured it was about time to get my cars oil changed, the odometers at about 65K and my last oil change was around 56K ( it takes the expensive castrol synthetic so 10k's about normal for the intervals) I hit the gym at my apartment complex and as always brought my trusty Macbook along for the ride. I saw the review for Kwik Kar and gave them a call. Just from the friendly voice on the other side of the phone I decided to venture into the unknown and give them a try. The results? This place is SUPERB! They only took about half an hour, did a far superior job then anyone at the Audi dealership ever did, and they even gave me a great recommendation for a european specialist in town that could do the big work if it ever came up. The technicians seem very knowledgeable and the price seemed fair ($69 but hey I only need it once a year..2 at most!) I'd recommend this place to anyone, they exceeded my expectations and set the bar high for their competition read more

I brought my newly purchased 85 Bronco in for it's inspection and an oil change earlier this year. Virtually the entire time spent doing the oil change was used to go over observations made by the mechanics which was awesome because I need/want as much feedback as possible regarding the mental, physical, and spiritual well-being of my new project. I came back in today in order to have a tune-up done since that was one of the things I thought I could take care of easily. After Ron (Ray? Rob?) took it for a drive and got it up on the lift I was finally able to get a good look at everything going on while Ron explained what he was seeing. It's a very old engine and lots of things are falling apart, which I could see with my own eyes. But with Ron and Randy's feedback I left confident about the next step in getting the Bronco up to speed and dependable. Oh, and they didn't charge me anything for that hour of time. Also, the waiting room was FULL. There were 4 other cars in the garage being worked on. I was able to take a few deep breaths and forgive this infraction on the world's revolvement around me and kept myself busy for the next 30 grueling minutes. Then we spent the next 30 minutes talking about "How not to kill your Bronco." They told me straight forward it would require more work than what they could do and to take it to an engine shop where they work on those things almost exclusively. Thanks guys. :) read more

My oil change was so haphazardly done. I left and had to return after noticing my hood was crooked. Turned out my mechanic left a work light in my car. I couldn't open it myself and had to drive back. The next day my car was lagging and I went to auto zone to check my battery. The mechanic there noticed that my air filter was loose and inserted backwards. During the oil change Kwik Kar should have notified me of this issue or have fixed it. Just had my second visit to this location and I still can't believe how great they are. I again went during my lunch hour and was in and out within 30 minutes! They recommended a tire rotation and brake flush, which I know I'm totally up for but didn't have time for today. They were not pushy at all though, which is a huge plus! I will be going back soon for those recommendations and really appreciate how friendly and courteous all of their employees are. I have definitely found my new auto shop! Oh, and they put air in your tires, clean your windows AND vacuum your carpets every time! So awesome! read more

Just days after leaving another 5 star review for them.. my car broke in a big way. The head gasket blew, on a car where that is an expensive and lengthy operation. Kwik Kar had the car for a week, and I have no doubt it cost them more money than they charged us. Yes.. I think they either covered their costs, or lost money on this job. But we never heard anything negative from them. They were professional and courteous throughout.. and of course the car came back perfect. They even added gas. I have been back and the staff is consistent in their friendliness. I always feel like a guilty parent when I take my car in, because I know I should have gone back sooner to get the oil changed, I probably don't do a good job of making sure the air pressure is right in my tires, etc, etc. The men who work here never make me feel bad about it or lecture me like I don't know anything about cars. On my most recent visit, the guy helping me out showed me all the things he suggested I have done to my car. New power steering fluid, fuel injection something or other. I told him, I know I need to have a few things done to it, but I only have so much budgeted this month for car maintenance, of all the things you listed, what is the most important. He was real honest with me ad told me which items could be put on hold. Once we agreed o the services I needed, I waited about another 20 minutes for them to finish up. They also vacuumed out my car and cleaned the windows. I wasn't surprised at all to see they had a "People Love Us On Yelp" sticker when I walked out the door. read more

I have been taking bothy the family vehicles here since we moved to Austin 3.5 years ago. The staff is friendly and it is a family-run business. The couple that own the business are usually on site and are helpful. I have had simple maintenance and moderately complex repairs and have never had an issue. The waiting area is very clean and much more comfortable than any auto service business I have ever been to. On nice days, I will sit outside at a bench or table in the shade. I usually bring my chocolate labrador retriever; the owners are dog lovers and enjoy seeing "Rolo." The wi-fi, chocolates on the counter, and free coffee are a nice touch as well. Upselling is almost expected in this business, but I have had a different experience with Kwik Kar. If something is recommend by mileage only, they will say so. If something is found that is damaged, broken, or about to fail, they will show it to me and explain what my options are. I feel much more comfortable making a decision with that information. read more

I have gone here several times now and have usually been pleased with the service/work performed however this last time I am not as pleased. The invoice clearly states that the car was vacuumed and windows cleaned and this was not done at all. I normally wouldn't have even noticed but I saw them doing this to several other cars that were there and my car wasn't even touched in regards to these two things. Now I realize that is not what I came there for but if it is offered as part of the service and noted as "complete" it should be done in my opinion. Normally would not bother me but make me wonder what other things did the mark "complete" and not even do. Would also not recommend going on a Friday afternoon/early evening seeing as more socializing is done in the shop than attending to the cars. read more

Came back to Kwik Kar for another yearly safety inspection. Although I'm still a fan, I wish I could say this visit went as smoothly as last time. Here's my take-away: Avoid coming on Friday or weekend afternoons and opt for a weekday appointment instead. I was already two months overdue for an inspection, and with Friday my only day off, I didn't have much of a choice. As a result, I waited for an hour and a half. Luckily the waiting area is primped with comfortable seating, several beverage choices, myriad of reading material, and free Wi-Fi -- a huge plus. During my wait I noticed the dreaded up-selling was happening with the customers around me. I understand the business is completely within their right to recommend additional services as needed, but for myself, I've become jaded by too many mechanics in the past trying to sell nonessential services. It's a matter of trust, and I believe this place can be trusted, but do yourself a favor and use caution. read more

These guys are awesome. Had them do a check up on my car brakes and tires and were completely honest with me that I could wait a bit before having to replace either. Really was a relief after a couple other shops tried to push me prematurely into expensive repairs. Smog check cost was very reasonable too. Love these folks! read more

If I had to sum up my recent visit it would be: Super Friendly! Okay, I know that is two words...but everyone from the guy who greeted me in my car as I pulled up to the lady behind the counter in the waiting area to the guy who checked me out -- everyone was very nice and professional. I was only getting my safety inspection done (a dreaded task!) but I was in and out in about 45 minutes during the middle of the day. The waiting area was really nice - comfy couches, lots of magazines, even coffee and donuts! Since I was just getting my inspection, I don't know how their work is, but I would not hesitate to come back for at least an oil change. read more

Update (12/31/2009 from 5 stars to 3 stars): While I hate having to write this update, but I really feel obligated to write it so that other Yelper's are aware. I just got my Toyota Corolla Oil Change and as luck would have it, my Cabin Air Filter needed to be replaced. When I asked the attendant approximately how much the Cabin Air Filter would cost at an Auto Parts store, he just told me he had no idea. While I understand that running a business cost money, when I checked online to see how much the Cabin Air Filter was marked up, I was truly disappointed to see that it was a 135% mark up. Crazy Right?? I see why the attendant didn't know how much it cost elsewhere, I'd probably forget myself. The Regular Air Filter was marked up 41%, which is also high, but considering the convenience I'm OK with it, but too mark anything as simple as a Cabin Air Filter replacement at 135% is a bit troublesome. Advice to other Yelpers, should you require other items replaced, save your money and do it yourself. As for me, what's done is done: I just made my last Financial Mistake of 2009. Lastly, I've been to this place about 4 times now with both my cars, so with respect to just an oil change, this place is excellent; however, from now on I'll be more diligent before approving any replacement parts. I am SO glad I found this place! Even in the grip of a power outage, a massive downpour and no intention of letting up soon, the crew at Kwik Kar still changed the oil in my vehicle, checked the tires and topped the fluids... All in the beams of flashlights!! Seriously amazing service from this crew! This is my new stop for automotive upkeep as the staff is friendly, I don't feel like I'm being taken for ride with useless up charging (wont name name any names but rhymes with Iffy Dude) and their dedication to their vocation is apparent. Love this place. As soon as you drive up, someone comes to help you. They take your keys and your car insurance and the whole inspection process takes about 30 minutes including waiting. They sure are quick. They don't call themselves "kwik" for nothing. I would definitely come back for my inspection. They don't mess around. And it's only $19 to get your car inspected. I have been going here for oil changes for about 4 years and have always been satisfied UNTIL my last oil change where the tech upsold me on synthetic oil without me realizing it was happening. I was shocked when I checked out and my total for JUST an oil change was $72. So I came home, wrote a complaint letter and was promptly issued a refund and a very nicely worded apology letter. Every single time I have gone here, it has been a wonderful experience. These guys are seriously the nicest group of car stars I've met. They are extremely accommodating, not out to get your money AT ALL, timely and great at explaining the why behind the needs for your car. I have coupons for free oil changes elsewhere that will go to waste because I will not go anywhere but this Kwik Kar at this point. They got my car ready for a road trip and told me exactly what I needed to get taken care of when I returned. They also are the ONLY mechanics who have ever remedied my very sensitive tire pressure sensor issue. It was always on, even after filling the tires, and they got it turned off. I get my oil changes and had one minor maintenance check here. The service is always good and the owners are very hospitable. It's usually busy on the weekends, so if you want the fastest service, either give them a call ahead and see how long the wait is, or go in at the earliest time in the morning. Well, I showed up late in the afternoon... about 5pm... they said no problem... 20 minutes later, the oil was changed, and the vehicle had a renewed inspection sticker. They are friendly and it's actually fun to hang out here while you wait. There's chocolate, free coffee, a dog park, and a car wash that you can visit when you're done with your oil change. The staff is not only friendly, but they also are organized and able to look up your history very quickly and easily. They don't do a hard-sell; they just tell you what they recommend, and then you can come back again. There are kids toys, and loads of good magazines, and you don't feel like you're waiting for 40 minutes in a bathroom stall or a bus depot, like you do at Firestone, or Jiffy Lube. It's really hard to find a shop that puts service and the customer before the bottom line. This shop definitely accomplishes that and has been my go to garage for two years through two cars and a motorcycle. A few times I've dropped off my car and after getting estimates from other shops, was expecting the worst. They call up a short time later, with a solution and a estimate that was a fraction of the other shops. They also take that extra step in everything they do. Love these guys. The guy who did my oil change today called me out to my car from the lobby twice, both times to show me things he'd noticed with my car, neither time to up-sell me anything. The second time he called me out there, he took me down into underneath the car to show me a huge crack in my tire. They don't sell tires-- he just wanted me to be aware of it for my own safety. The fact that they vacuum your carpets, refill your tires, and wash your windows when all I really needed was an oil change is also a huge plus. Customer service at its best. :) read more

Great place to get tires rotated and get a car inspection. I thought I needed a brake flush and tire balance according to Acura's maintenance schedule but the mechanics explained everything and I ended up not needing one--goes to show they're not trying to nickel and dime you. Rather then fork over an ungodly amount to the dealership I decided to take my vechile to Kwik Kar after several disappointing experiences at other facilites. I was impressed that their estimate of timing was accurate and their waiting room was one of the nicest I've seen at any oil change place. The sticker price is a bit expensive, but through a little searching you can usually find a coupon to knock a good $10 plus off your bill. read more

But today, I was informed that it would not pass inspection because of the window tent. When I asked why in the past has the exact location passed my inspection and now he is not passing me, he stated, well, it's on the inspector to make a judgment call.
