Dropped off my car for an inspection at 10:30 leaving my name and phone number with them. I came back about an hour and a half to two hours later asking about the status of my car and was told it was next. 30-45 minutes later I overheard that someone else's inspections was next within 15 minutes so I stood in line to see about the status and was only told then that my car had been completed and the phone number was not good. waited 3 hours for them to tell me that the car was completed ~2 hours ago after being lied to. Make sure you confirm your phone number and ask twice on your cars status if you want to avoid my issue. read more

I've used Kwik Kar for years for oil changes, inspections, batteries, etc and have always been so thankful and relieved to have a car place that I can trust. On Saturday 6/4/22, Kwik Kar and manager Charles Trujillo went above and beyond even their normal high bar for service. During a busy Saturday morning rush with a dozen folks all going for oil changes and inspections, I had a non-typical problem - my brake lights stayed on even after the engine was turned off, draining my new battery. Charles walked me out to my car and immediately diagnosed the issue. He reached under the brake pedal and showed me a broken stopper(?) that had failed as a normal wear and tear issue for a 10 year old car. Charles grabbed and installed a new stopper within minutes and my brake lights went off. I couldn't believe it! I asked what I owed and Charles said don't worry about it and to have a great day. I might've let out some choice but happy curse words as I thanked Charles effusively. I've never written any business reviews or testimonials anywhere, but Charles sorted me out with the quickness and was super cool and super kind doing it in the middle of managing half of Austin who came in on that Saturday morning. Kwik Kar is the epitome of the family-owned, friendly, trustworthy and reasonable neighborhood mechanic shop that once you find you tell all your friends and family about when they ask if you know an honest mechanic. Kwik Kar has repeatedly gone above and beyond as far as customer service, and they make it clear that getting your car running well is more important than squeezing you for money. One time my battery wasn't holding a charge properly so I left my car at Kwik Kar in the morning before work. They told me it was a battery issue but noted that it being a relatively new battery it may be under warranty. When I got off work Kwik Kar loaned me a car to go exchange my battery at the store I bought it from, then charged me next to nothing to install it for me. My girlfriend recently had to have her brakes replaced but was in a financially tight place. KK went out of their way to give her a great deal, I know for a fact that the place I used to go to would've charged her several hundred dollars more for all that was done. I cannot say enough good things about Kwik Kar Southwest. I have been taking my cars here for years. I just took my 2015 Toyota Camry in last Saturday for an oil change, and they checked out my check engine light, which had come on the day before. The computer code readout showed a possible light fluid leak. After asking my permission to reset it and then unscrewing and re-screwing the gas cap on at my request, the problem was fixed. The next day I realized I probably created the issue by topping off the gas while at the fuel pump. Problem solved -- and I didn't have to deal with the hassle of dropping the car off at the dealership, catching the shuttle to work, being without my car for the day. This is the sort of professionalism I have come to expect from Kwik Kar. And have I mentioned the wait? They are usually busy when I come in, because I get there during peak time on Saturday afternoons, but I hardly feel the time, because their waiting area is cushy and inviting with the most comfortable leather chairs and a shady area outback with benches if I get tired of the lobby. They run a tight ship and move through the line-up of vehicles efficiently and never seem to "lose track" of a car. They seem to have their system down. I respect them, too, for being closed on Sundays, giving their employees a day of rest -- that's responsible business ownership and it gets reflected in the service. When I was growing up there was a Kwik Kar in my neighborhood in north Fort Worth that my mom took all our vehicles to all the time. The owners were a married couple and were the nicest people and they knew their customers and families. When I first moved to South Austin I discovered this Kwik Kar location in my new neighborhood and it is pretty much identical to the one in Fort Worth. Owners of the south Austin location are a super friendly married couple as well and I couldn't have been more pleased with my discovery. It was comforting to know that I could get the same kind of service I got from my hometown. In the last 5 years all my care maintenance and up keep has been done here - everything from oil change, to flushes, tune ups, inspections and so much more. I recently had them replace the piece on the hood where the window washer fluid comes out because mine had stopped working due to age. Also about a month and a half ago I had a front head light replaced. It burned out within the next month so I took it back in. They warranted the bulb for me and blew out the water that we think was causing it to burn out. We also talked about next steps on how to handle the issue if the bulb continues to burn out. Anyway - I hope you get the picture - great owners, great employees and great service all around here! I would recommend always taking your car here first. Wow! This place is awesome.. my girlfriend insisted that she always goes here so I decided to give them a try. I cant say I'm at all disappointed. I had a rather simple repair I needed done.. I would have done it myself but I always break stuff and it seemed like it should cost too much. When I pulled the car in someone came out to help me before I had even parked. I explained my problem handed over the keys and they started work with no wait time. So my rear and front blinkers had gone out, I replaced the front light and it was a huge hassle so I brought it here to get the rear light fixed. When I did the job myself I paid 12 bucks for the light. They did the work here and my total was like 9 dollars to replace the light .. that's right they replaced the rear bulb for cheaper than I can actually buy the bulb. I cant say enough about these guys .. friendly fast .. awesome. Sometimes they do get busy but hey .. its just because people appreciate the quality of service here! read more

I really appreciate the customer service here normally and they seem far when it comes to car repairs. I'm here today to get my car inspected, so I wouldn't be here if I didn't have to get this done. While nearly all of the customers are wearing masks or waiting outside, 90% of the staff are not wearing masks including the 3 men behind the counter. I have used this location many times for several different vehicles...even my motorcycle. Service has always been done to my expectation...which is difficult considering my background as a Master Mechanic and business owner myself. Now for the crux of my problem today. I was told Monday during my oil change that their Master Mechanic worked Tuesday to Saturday...so I show up first thing this morning to get my truck taken care of, and & I was told that the MM won't be there for an hour and there are three cars in front of me that are going to take another three hours before I would even be looked at. Me: I have to pick up my son from school Them: it's first come first served Me: can we get me in line and you can call me when it's my turn Them: if someone is waiting anf they see you drive up, they get mad at me Me: look, You want my business and I want to give you my business, so we need to figure something out. Them: WALKED AWAY!!!!! In this day and age of social media, when you lose a customer, you dont just lose one or even ten back when it was a word of mouth deal. Now, you can lose hundreds at the punch of a 'POST' button. It is bad business to turn away PAYING customers. I GET the business model of Walk-Ins and FCFS for oil changes and state inspections, but for diagnostics and repairs, too?! KK, you need to work with your customers more diligently and offer scheduling solutions for PEOPLE that cannot drop off and go, or operate without a vehicle for extended periods of time. Bottom line, KK is a nice place for oil changes and inspections, but if you need repair work done, I would take your vehicle somewhere that has a scheduled appointment system. read more

I am writing this review to share my frustration and stress that Kwik Kar caused ever since I went there to get my car inspection in December 2019.. I was told that my 5-year-old car didn't pass the inspection when they ran the test for the first time. Justin asked If I replaced the battery recently. I said "Yes, you guys replaced my battery 2 months ago in October" He asked if anybody else touched the car, and I said "No". Nobody else touched the car, they were the only people who did my oil change and inspection in the previous year in addition to replacing my battery. Then they said the battery that they put in 2 months ago was TOO NEW to pass the test and told me to drive the car around Austin for 50 miles making at least 65 miles/hr. I did that and when I went back the next day it failed again. They told me to drive 75 more miles the second time, and 100 more miles when the car failed for the third time. I did what they asked me to because I wanted to get my registration renewed before the end of the month, but my husband told me that 2 months should have been enough for the car computer to get enough battery information to pass the inspection... Finally when I went back for the fourth time it failed again, Mike told me that they didn't know what the problem was.. I asked him if the battery could be reason.. So, he ran a battery test and told me that the battery was good! He also told me to take it to Honda to find out what was wrong with the car. I went to Honda the next day, and found out that the battery they put in my car 2 months ago was bad! The voltage was really low, that's why it failed four times. Honda replaced the battery with a Honda battery and did the inspection. The car passed the inspection as soon as the battery was replaced. Justin and Mike wasted my time asking me to keep driving around Austin to add more miles instead of questioning and replacing the battery. They caused stress and frustration because I was worried not only about the registration but also the possibility of my car having problems and costing money. Most importantly my safety... I took their battery back to their shop today. They refunded the battery and the inspection fee. I was very surprised to find out that Kwik Kar charged the same amount that Honda charged. Honestly I thought their price was lower than Honda. They put a bad battery for the same price that Honda charged for a good battery, and they blamed my car, waisted my time.. I learned my lesson! read more

I have been popping In here for about 3 years since moving down to the south side of Austin and I will continue to do so as long as live down here . The service is always spot on and super friendly. I always know exactly what I am getting when I come in for a oil change . I never feel like I'm being taken advantage of due I my lack of any kind of car knowledge just to make a sale! I have had to leave my car for a short time because of the wait and I was promptly offers a ride to my house down the street instead of waiting. I purchased both my current and previous 4Runner babies with less than 500 miles on them and both were baptized with their first lube job here. I was so impressed with my first experience with them back in 2006 I have yet to stray despite the fact that my current 2010 4Runner came with 20,000 miles worth of free maintenance coupons. That is saying a lot since my current girl only takes Synthetic Oil (over 100.00/ oil change)! See my previous review as to why? Jan and Mark excel at customer service and could easily transfer their skills to making millions training employees for Fortune 500's! Alas I am happy they quite their corporate jobs and opened KKS so I can enjoy my time getting my Kar did that I would otherwise put off until all sorts of warning signs are popping up on my dash board. I've been going to Kwik Kar for about 6 years. I have recommended them to many as being a place where "good work is done and trustworthy assessments." I now have a significant cause to question the ethics. The news upfront on the negative side: they recommend oil changes every 5000 miles for synthetic oil and maintenance work done sooner than manufacturers recommendations. I drive a large SUV. When I questioned, "Shouldn't it be done every 10,000 miles?," I was told that for a large vehicle like this it should be done more frequently. This vehicle only hauls kids around, it is not a heavy duty work vehicle. For years I did not question this, until we started bringing our sedans in. Our sedans also need an oil change every 5000 miles on synthetic. Sadly, I need to question their ethics as they are up selling expensive oil at 1/2 the timeframe needed. Shame on them for doing this. Shame on me for trusting anyone in the car repair/service industry. Additionally, there has been "regular maintenance" recommended on my car that is outside of manufacturers recommended timeframe. On the upside, when they do work, it is done well. Also on the upside, they work they do is significantly less than the dealership quotes me. I will continue to go to them for their good work. I will no longer except them as recommending work that is truly needed. I will be vigilant in keeping my own records and knowing what truly needs to be done versus being susceptible to "up selling" tactics. Bottom line: the ethics are not much different than any other car service facility. The work is good. read more

At the same time, some cookies were delivered to the front desk and he offered me one LOL.
