We've now been to Kwei Fei twice and it's quickly becoming one of our favorites. This most recent trip we arrived around 6:30 on a Friday and had about a 15 minute wait for 2 people. Our first trip we dined with a vegan friend so we ordered all our dishes vegan (since it is family style, which I prefer!). This can be a great option for bringing vegan guests! Please note: the food is usually spicy, so please don't expect otherwise! It is not unbearably spicy in my opinion, just the right amount (though I have a relatively high spice tolerance, and I didn't find the Tingly Beef noodles that spicy at all). For our most recent trip, we started off with the crescent (pork) dumplings and the Biang Biang noodles. The Biang Biang noodles we had been craving since our first trip. I highly recommend them. We devoured the crescent dumplings as well and are eager to continue eating our way through the appetizers. For our mains, we tried the Mapo Tofu and the Tingly Beef Noodles. The mapo tofu was tender and spicy, but since I grew up eating mapo tofu, I was searching for some more flavor. My boyfriend really liked it though and he's not huge on tofu in general. The Tingly Beef Noodles had a great acidic note to them, but they didn't stand out as much as some of their other dishes. We found this dish to be on the milder side if you have anyone in your group who is sensitive to spice. We will definitely explore some more of the entrees! Overall, this is becoming one of my go-to spots because I love the heat and flavor from the Sichuan dishes. By the way, a few months ago we had a side of eggplant that was fabulous! It was not on the menu this time around though. Since the menu does rotate, I guess we will just have to keep going back for more! read more

Came here on a Thursday night when they were having a different menu than usual. We ordered lamb dumplings (so good - the vinegar sauce was amazing), general tso's chicken, and Mongolian beef. General tso's chicken was my favorite main, but those lamb dumplings were also really good. read more

Yes, tiny spot that is tough to find. And when they say spicy Sichuan, they don't exaggerate. Our group tried a little bit of everything....Butterbean congi, crescent dumpling, lamb dumpling, drunken wings, and my fave, the salad, but can't remember the name of it. Some things were OK, but most items I really liked. I do believe that it would not hurt the bottom line if they were to keep a giant rice cooker on site for those with more tender palates. Most of enjoy a spice meal, but something to clear the heat is just good business. read more

Fun and delicious! Love the space, the staff was all great! The bold hot flavors were spot on! The dry, fire hot chili chunks, sprinkled liberally through the crispy chicken took me back to my favorite spot in Seattle's international district! My nose was running with joy! We had a perfect locally brewed, pale ale that cut the heat and complemented the flavors perfectly! Our child was delighted with his kids meal lineup. We can't wait to go back! read more

Have been twice and both times the food Is excellent. We love super hot food and it doesn't disappoint. The waitstaff is excellent and very helpful with the Menu. The cocktails are amazing also. It is trendy and the outdoor section looks very nice but we have never eaten out there My two complaints are - 1. both times we arrive super early and are asked if we have reservations, which we didn't. Both times the male seating us acts like not having a reservation is terrible and we get attitude. Both times when we left , the place was 75% empty. They should be happy that us older people like to dine early, tip big, and have a lot of disposable income , but instead he acts snooty like you need reservations to eat at 5:00 on a weekday when the place is empty. Second my Husband was charged $3.50 each for his 5 ice teas. That is outrageous. read more

Omg why did it take me so long to try Kwei fei?!?! We came with a group of 5 and got a good smattering of the menu, as recommended by our waiter. We got all 3 of the dumplings and they were all delish. The lamb had the strongest flavor and if you don't like the taste of lamb, I would recommend these. My favorites were actually the veggie dumplings but they were all really good. We also got the pork belly dry pot which was a huge hit. The pork belly pieces were perfectly cooked and the flavor was addictive. I got the Dan Dan noodles which I always love. It was spicy but not unbearable and so much flavor! There was another dish our server recommended to us as the hottest dish on the menu, and it was chicken served cold with peanuts and peppers. It definitely had a kick to it and it was throwing me off to eat cold chicken chunks but the flavor was so good that I was pleasantly surprised. My favorite thing we got were the hot and sour noodles, which were just so addicting. They definitely had some heat and sourness to them (hence the name lol) and I found myself thinking about these noodles for days afterward. Give it a try if you're not afraid of spice!! read more

This was my second time eating at kwei fei. We got there at 7:45 pm and was surprised that this place was not busy. We count that as a blessing so we can get in and eat with no longer waiting time I had sea island noodle with mushrooms spicy broth for $15 and hubs got the twice cooked pork (spicy) $17 which was not spicy and the side of rice for $3. My kid had noodle with soy sauce with popcorn chicken (kids menu) for $12. I think the kid's noodle dish was over price, I mean $12 for kids meal while adult meal is $14. We had crescent dumpling with pork and chive as the filling sitting on the soy sauce chili oil. Let me tell you, go order them when you are dining at kwei fei! This dumpling tasted good and the pork chive filling was perfect! The sea island noodle had great mushrooms taste and very savory noodle and great broth. The twice cooked pork was just okay. They were too heavy on the scallions, it was like scallion dish with finely chopped twice cooked pork not spicy. Maybe not too much on the scallions and onions so we can honestly eat the pork?! The waiter that helped us tonight was great and engaged in conversation with my kids even the one that brought the food to us was nice too. Overall, we like this place despite the loud music, or for charging white rice at the Chinese restaurant. I'll be back. read more

Sundays is the dim sum menu (it's a limited menu) not the full menu. I loved the food we ordered here! We ordered the: Turnip Cake with an egg...DELICIOUS! The flavor and texture was so spot Scallion Pancake... just as good as the one you can get frozen at the Asian market Butterbean Congee...Delicious; kind of porridge like with really great savory flavor! My husband and daughter like the two different style wings they ordered. I will warn you none of the food comes out at one time; so you basically eat a dish and some where before you finish sharing it the next item comes out. This makes it difficult if you're not planning on sharing. read more

Went there for my third time this evening in celebration of a friends birthday. My first time was 5 stars, but it's down to a 4 after the combination of three occasions. The food is sooooo freaking good, but it's hit or miss. Same goes with the service. My first trip I got some type of Sichuan red broth soup that was so ridiculously good that it is hard to describe. I would say that 75% of the dishes at this joint will make you sweat, but in a good way. The spice is intense but yet delicious. Prices are a bit high for the portion sizes. Will still return!! read more

I've been wanting to try this restaurant for awhile. I like the story of the restaurant and the thought the Chef has put into the menu. I followed them on social media as they traveled to NYC to try the best Sichuan food in US and bring these options here to little ol me. We tried one of everything on the menu. Yes, you need antacid as your after dinner aperitif, but GD is it worth it! A few of my favs: psycho killer cocktail jn the panda cup, Sichuan beef, Strange flavor chicken, pork belly dry pot. I mean I enjoyed if all but there's only so much room. Spicy yes but NOT deathly. It was fun trying something new. Thanks KF! read more

Unlike the Americanized-greasy fusion type places - just a heads up - Kwei Fei's dishes are family-style and meant for sharing. Do not fret if your chopsticks happen to touch your eating companions'. It will be okay. You will survive; I promise. For those unfamiliar with Sichuan/Szechuan cuisine, you are missing out! Sichuan cuisine is typically a very spicy type of Chinese food and is also known for being very flavorful. MANY Sichuan dishes incorporate a lot of garlic and chilli peppers, so make sure those two ingredients are palatable before you hit up Kwei Fei. My husband and I shared three dishes: 1) Dan Dan Mian (noodles) Sesame paste and/or peanut butter is sometimes added, and occasionally replaces the spicy sauce, usually in the Taiwanese and American Chinese style of the dish. In this case, there was peanut/peanut butter in the dan dan noodles, making their dan dan mian (noodle) sweeter, less spicy, and less soupy than its Szechuan/Sichuan counterpart. 2) Dry Fried Green Beans This is a staple in many Chinese restaurants, so we were interested to see Kwei Fei's take on this particular dish. Although on the smaller side, our order arrived looking delightfully aromatic. Accompanied with rice, the green beans are just the right amount of salt and heat. Without rice, It would be a tad too salty if eaten alone. Great flavor, nonetheless! 3) Sichuan Beef The beef was very tender. By the look of the broth, I had anticipated the beef and broth to be three times more spicy and numbing, but it was actually the most mild of the three dishes we ordered. This is not a spicy dish, so the the name of the dish may be misleading. It may not be the prettiest entree to capture on pictures, but the taste and flavour is right on! Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience. Two things prevented this from being a five-star review. First would be the fact that for a reportedly "spicy" and "Sichuan" place, we left not feeling to numb in the spice department. We have been to other Sichuan places that left us wanting to curl up into our former selves and cry more than usual. Second, the service was a bit slow. We were seated almost immediately, but it took over 30 minutes before our first dish came to the table. It must have been a busy night for take-out? Note to selves for next time - add hot oil provided at the table to the dishes to kick up the spice level! read more

Great food, spicy. The Biang biang noodles and sweet & sour pork were amazing. Great place to order different dishes to share!

What a find! This cute little place with very friendly staff and great service has food that amazes. We had four different dishes and they were all fantastic, each with a bit of a twist on the classic Sichuan version of the dish. We were blown away by the complex tastes and delicious combinations. And to top it off, it's a good deal, a lot of food for a reasonable price. Can't recommend it enough. read more

This place is loud and angry ladies abound. I had a bad experience here but that's just me. I am not a fan of Szechuan cuisine anyway because it's usually too spicy for me. I was thinking Sunday Brunch they would have a little more variety for folks like myself vs going to their dinner. So fair warning I read a previous review of how angry the ladies were in here. I don't know if it's their thing but oooh was it right. They even had a Angry Lady Sauce on the menu. Danny who loves spicy and Szechuan food loves this place. Me. Not so much. I info'd the server that I could not handle spicy food ahead of time. So I got the pancake, dumplings and shrimp shumai. I asked for soy sauce since only thing they had on the table was spicy chili oil. The soy sauce was spicy AF! I couldn't hide the look of pain on my face when I dipped my dumpling into the sauce. I almost died. I asked for regular soy sauce and it was delivered but the damage had already been done. So not a good experience for my since dying was involved but Danny loved the food and I could tell because his lips started to swell and turn red from the heat of the ramen looking noodle soup he had that was all about the hot chili oil as it's base. read more

The food was very good and madely fresh. Dumpling was my fave. and its sauce was spicy and addicting! We sat outside for cold Chinese New Year dinner night and they provide each patio table with its own heater! The menu doesnt have alot of variety to choose from but however they change seasonally. I asked for Dan Dan Noodle ( the server said its only available for "Szechuan style" menu) so it wasn't available because currently they serving Cantonese style menu.. But it didn't disappoint us cause everything that we ordered was soo good! Ill come again next time when Dan Dan Noodle is available. read more

Delicious, hot, spicy, loud food! My tongue thanked me at least 4 times while dining here!

Love Chinese food, with great service, and music that makes you want to dance in your seat? Kwei Fei is a vibe. Food with flavor and a major kick is what they specialize in. We caught the last days of their Cantonese menu but they serve yummy Szechuan all year long. My new best favorite is the pork dish, Sichuan beef, and the dumplings. What's yours? For me spicy was not really spicy, just right. The food is superb, fresh. The string beans, is to die for. And, they give you a lot of food for the money. Not easy to find, but worth the look. Our waitress at the bar had a smile a mile long, made you feel at home. Frank G read more

I've had a chance to visit this eatery when it was a pop-up at the coffee shop and now the sit-down restaurant. Firstly, I knew this wasn't going to be traditional authentic Szechuan food. However, I do appreciate the chef's desire to showcase this type of cuisine to the lowcountry and his spin on some classic dishes. It was nice to hear about his passion for Szechuan food and his time spent in New York City. The food is very flavorful. Spice is pretty toned down, in my opinion, but it still has a nice kick to it. Wish the food wasn't so salty though. Decor is nice and the environment is lively with a nice buzz from all the other fellow patrons. Prices are a little high. Service is friendly and on-point. read more

Food Ambience Service Hygiene(it does matter to a person with OCD) Chef Highly recommend Kwei Fei while visiting Charleston! Mapo Tofu, Butter beans & Yibin Noodle. The service and chef were really the best that when the Mapo Tofu tasted a bit too soy-y, the chef Davis sat with us, understood what we meant, and re-did the dish in a way we loved it. The food was absolutely delicious and is one the best and gem in Charleston. read more

This isn't authentic Sichuan food at all. I'd suggest come if you're looking for american Chinese but definitely don't come if you're expecting real Chinese food. The waiter told us to put the entire peppercorn in our mouth, which if you've done you wouldn't be able to taste anything for 5 min. While I don't think this business is the biggest fan of Yelp ( hence the sign), I am still going to leave a review.. because it was great! They are having a pop up right now, so it wasn't their usual menu. We got the fried green beans, crescent dumplings, steak noodles, and wonton noodles. Everything was delicious. The dumplings were a little spicy and very flavorful. The green beans was a huge portion size, the perfect amount of filling, and we LOVED the sauce. The steak noodles were great and i had a lot leftover. The wonton noodles were good but didn't have as much flavor as the rest. However, we added the extra sauce from the green beans and it gave it the perfect kick. The area was great and we were seated promptly. Lots of parking. It is right next to Pour house, one of my favorite nighttime spots with live music. Good place to pop by after . read more

Two words: delicious and spicy! The whole menu has heat which may be difficult when planning a meal with a group, but for those who are adventurous and enjoy some spice, this is a great place to check out. We started with all 3 of the wonton choices, veggie was my favorite but they all have great flavor and the sauce was delicious. For my meal, I had the pork stir fry which was very tasty but probably would have been easier to enjoy the flavors without so much spice (and this was described to us as a less spicy option). The location is connected to Pour House and is really cute inside with a great patio as well. I'd like to return to try the happy hour soon! read more

I suggest making reservations as we showed up right at 5:00 and were barely able to get seated. We had the crescent pork dumplings which were fantastic. On the server's recommendation, we ordered the Sichuan Beef which was served in a broth so we ordered rice to eat with it. The food here is very spicy and not really a no spice option. If you love heat, you'll love this food. If you don't like heat, this is probably not the place for you. I love Chinese food and appreciate this place for sticking pretty true to its food without an Asian infusion approach. read more

Food rarely tastes this good!!!! Every dish was outstanding, the flavors, the fresh ingredients and everything cooked to perfection. Staff are wonderful, attentive, really know and love the food and are friendly and helpful. We had Mackenzie and she really looked after us. I'd say come for the food and stay for the cocktails as they are also delicious. This is also great value for money as food was very fairly priced. We ordered extra just so we could have leftovers for today. A reminder that schezuan food is of course a little bit spicy , that's how it's meant to be and it's all the more delicious for that. We had a table next to us who didn't like spicy food at all so kept sending food back which was a real shame as this food is way too good to waste! If you can't take spice at all this may not be an ideal place for you. But if you can take a little spice but not too much I'm sure the staff will tone it down for you. We love spice and enjoyed adding their chili crunch to what we ate as that made our dishes a bit more spicy read more

Great food. Honestly, great experience. We started with the baijui flight. A bit harsh for me but I had to try. We then got the hot and sour mushrooms (highlight of the Meal). Next was the lamb dumplings. The dumplings are homemade but larger than what I am used to. I will try the pork ones next time. We got the Sichuan beef (lil too much chili oil and really only tasted chili, did not taste any ginger or garlic) and Suan La Fen (hot and sour soup with sweet potatoe glass noddles). The soup was hands down my favorite. Get a side of angry lady sauce to add an extra kick. Spice level was enough to make my eyes water which is Perfect. Service was top notch. Can't wait to go back and try more items. I wish I could give 4.5 stars. The only downfall was the Sichuan beef. It fell flat on flavor, very oily and the beef was a bit tough. I still highly recommend this cool lil joint. Hand down, I will be back. read more

Amazing food; if you like spicy stuff. I have dined in several times in the past. However, trying to reach someone by phone is impossible. Ended up causing me to not place an order and turned me off from the restaurant altogether. 1.) Tried the phone number in apple maps, no luck. 2.) Tried the phone number on the website and got a very long phone message without the info I was looking for. All I wanted to know was which dishes could be made less spicy as this is something I always ask the server in the restaurant. At this point I was frustrated that I couldn't reach a person at the restaurant to answer a simple question. 3.) I sent a fb message and got a fairly quick (but unhelpful response). I sent an immediate follow-up question but haven't gotten response, and it's been almost two days now. This really made me feel dismissed and like they don't care to earn my business. I've been wanting to try Kwei Fei for a long time now! I heard mixed reviews, but the one common review was that they can pack the heat! They are located right next to Pour House, so you can get your Sichuan fix then go listen to some live music, or the other way around. There is a parking lot out front, but if that's all taken for some reason, I know there is another parking lot just down the street. The space itself is bright and clean with a modern design. We started off with beers and I tried the Moody Tongue beer and Kwei Fei is actually the only carrier of it in SC! We started off our meal with the lamb dumplings because we've been obsessed with lamb lately. The sauce on the dumplings was perfectly tangy from the vinegar and salty. Per our waitress' recommendation, we saved the sauce to add to other items in our meal and it really made everything pop! For our main course we went with the Tingly Beef Noodle and the Dan Dan Mian. It was the perfect amount of food for 2 people and each dish offered a unique flavor. I went in thinking the dishes would be overwhelmingly spicy, but we were pleasantly surprised by the complexity! The Tingly Beef was rich and the broth was flavorful. The Dan Dan Mian had a bit more spice and a nice salty touch from the peanuts and pork. We had a great experience and we want to come back for Dim Sum brunch! read more

Y'all !!!!! Kwei Fei is the freaking bomb. I've eaten here no less that 10x and each meal has been fantastic. They are known for Sizchean style Chinese dishes but occasionally they will run a Cantonese menu of all your old childhood favorites like beef and broccoli or kung pao shrimp if you catch my drift. Their regular menu is so freaking good. I try to eat vegan when i can but not a hard-fast rule for me and KF has many offerings. I can go there get all the "Vibes" aka veggie sides like the marinated cukes, eggplant, dry friend green beans, and a bowl of Biang Biang noodles and I'm in heaven. Menu highlights on my most recent visit included from an entree standpoint were; Suan Cai Yu (Catfish soup) and the Pork Belly Dry Pot. The Angry Lady Sauce is my best friend as i put it on everything and I enjoy the rotating infused Baijiu shots they offer which keeps the meal fun with friends. Service is always insane good, Jess is incredible, her menu knowledge is incredible. If i had to offer up one criticism it would be they need to bring back an Asian beer.... every time I eat here I find myself needing/wanting a clean crisp lager like a Chang or Tiger Overall 5 stars all day everyday. I literally look forward to eating here every time someone asks me if i wanna go. Highly recommend you check them out! read more

I was excited about this place opening up near my house since I had heard such good things about it when it was just a pop-up at various places in Charleston. While the food is ok, I feel like most of the menu items come with the same chili/oli combination, are very spicy (I love spicy food), and sort of bland to the point where I am looking for something to add to each dish. What I did enjoy though were the dumplings. I think they do a good job with these and if I go back I would probably just order these and a beer and just sit at the bar. When I came here I ordered the Gong Bai Ji Ding (Chicken, Tianjin chili, peanuts) which I think was there take on Kung Pao Chicken with a szechuan twist. It was just ok. I also ordered the lamb dumplings which I thought was good and would recommend if you do go here. The last menu item I ordered was the Dan Dan Mian which was a noodle dish. I thought it lacked flavor, was heavy on the sesame oil, and was just blah overall. As far as service is concerned, I cannot say that it was any better than the food really. From the moment I walked in the door I never got a warm hospitable feeling from anyone and I felt as if we were a burden or not very welcome here. It got better once we were seated since the server was nice but even then it took awhile to even get my order in with the server and we really didn't see her again until the end of our meal. I could understand more if they were busy but they really weren't and there were empty tables around us. My other complaint is that the food did not come out together and was instead staggered and so every single dish came out separately. We were not in a hurry to eat and leave but this just prolonged our time here for no good reason. As far as the restaurant itself is concerned, I do like the bar, the outside patio, and the decor. The overall overall feel of the restaurant is quite nice. In summary, I would say the food was just ok and the service was not very good. I will probably come back though to give it another try since it is so close to my house and I have heard they have good pop-ups sometimes but at this time I can't recommend this place to anyone. read more
