    Pork belly adobo
    Ryan V.

About time we got more Filipino food in Boston! As a Filipino-American I'm really happy and proud to see this. More importantly the food is delicious! I've tried nearly everything on the menu. Pork belly adobo. Bicol express chicken wings. Bangus fish buns. Pancit noodles. Shrimp and chips with vinegar. Each dish features "authentic" Filipino flavors, the kind that remind me of my mom's cooking. At the same time it's presented in a modern and accessible way, something that I can order at a brewery and pair with a beer. (I was pleasantly surprised that the sour-tartness of Filipino food went very well with the sours at Lamplighter and Channel Marker Brewing) I'm looking to more Kuya's Cooking pop-ups at my local breweries -- and more Filipino food in Boston!

Let the garlic rice with crispy garlic bits and pork belly adobo soak up all that beer you're drinking for a guaranteed good time at your local brewery. Yes, Kuya's Cooking is so good that we stalk them on Instagram and follow them around the brewery pop ups they do around Boston. The pork belly is always glistening with sauce, incredibly tender, well seasoned and balanced with a beautiful acidity to cut through the richness. The garlic rice is fragrant and savory, soaking up the sauces from the pork belly. Hard to only order one serving! Also, who knew I needed shrimp chips instead of pretzels to snack on with beer? Brilliant.

Very tasty Filipino food with a great story! Kuya's Cooking gives a personal and creative twist to Filipino cuisine which makes every bite an exciting and delicious experience. My personal favorite is their pork belly adobo which melts in your mouth with just the right amount of sodium level and adobo's signature tanginess. Tofu adobo is also a great vegan option. The service of the pop-up at Lamplighter was friendly and fast. The serving size was generous and paired well with various kinds of beers. Highly recommend!

Korean Momma has set the bar very high. The cheesecakes are great for parties and entertaining, but sometimes I keep an eye out for a fun flavor and just get it to try. Nothing beats the OG burnt flavor though, which has just the perfect touch of saltiness to complement the tangy cheese flavor and balance out the sweetness of the cake. I also love the graham cracker crust which gets so caramelized, crispy, and almost a little smoky. For gluten free friends out there, you can also get the cheesecakes without the crust. I'm so happy that they've now partnered with Darling which serves their gluten free cheesecake on their menu, but it's always worth signing up for one of the weekend drops to chat with Duly and his whole team.

When we picked up the cheesecake, we also received a sample of the mango lassi cheesecake. The mango lassi cheesecake set the bar high. It was delicious, not too sweet but rich and creamy. The mango lassi flavor was also spot on - 5 stars. Unfortunately the basque cheesecake we had was not as good. There were parts of the cheesecake that was quite salty, not sure if this was intentional? We did enjoy the parts of the cheesecake that was not salty tho! Perhaps we got a bad batch. I would try other flavors in the future since the sample one we had was soo good, but I would skip the OG basque cheesecake.

Inchu at CanalSide serves up a straightforward menu of Asian bowls including Korean Bibimbap, Thai Pad Krapow, Vietnamese Banh Mi Bowl, and Japanese Donburi with choice of base (jasmine rice or organic greens) and choice of protein (tofu, bbq chicken, ginger beer, poached salmon), each bowl priced at $15.75 plus tax (in 2024). There is plenty of seating at this spacious food hall. I stopped by Inchu recently and ordered the Korean Bibimbap with jasmine rice & poached salmon. My bowl was prepared to order and all set in 3 minutes. I enjoyed this tasty bowl which was layered with soft jasmine rice, sesame seeds, bean sprouts, green onions, spinach, cucumbers, carrot slaw, pickled daikon, kimchi, soft poached salmon filet and a fried egg (runny). This quickly made bowl had a good mix of tasty ingredients, but not your traditional bibimbap which is served in a hot stone pot (bowl) with the egg and rice sizzling crisp on the sides and bottom of the bowl. I will have to return here so I can try out their other bowls!

It was sauced and seasoned well. There was so much food I was able to share, too.

A great option to explore in Time Out market for some Asian fusion bowls…read more They offer bowls that are well-portioned (especially compared to the other vendors), are efficient in preparing orders, and have many different ways to customize the bowl to meet dietary preferences. There are also both raw and cooked options for the protein. Overall, the bowls are super flavorful, fresh, and filling. My go-to is usually the Japanese Donburi. Sometimes they are out of ingredients (commonly the salmon in my experience), but the variety they have on the menu is helpful to hopefully find a swap that fits your taste. Like the other options in Time Out, you can sit either inside or outside and after ordering, they will give you a buzzer. Just head over to the counter to pick-up when the buzzer goes off, but otherwise you can eat anywhere in Time Out. It can definitely get loud and crowded depending on the time of day or if there is an event around (like Red Sox games). I have still had pretty efficient service even when it is crowded. Only drawback is the cost, but like I said, it is somewhat more worth the money here since the portion size is larger than most of the other options.

We walked into a clean, modern space with a straightforward ordering setup that makes it a convenient spot for a quick meal. The interior is functional and uncluttered, designed around efficiency rather than lingering, and the presentation of the bowls is appealing, with each dish arriving neatly composed. We tried one of the bowls and found the ingredients themselves to be fresh and well prepared, but the seasoning leaned a bit on the salty side, which made some of the components feel less balanced than expected. The portion was decent, though for the price, it felt slightly overpriced compared to what you get. The flavors were enjoyable but did not stand out as much as we had hoped, and the overall dish felt more like a solid, dependable option rather than something memorable. The proteins were cooked well, and the vegetables added a nice crunch, but the sauce distribution could have been more even to avoid pockets of intense saltiness. Service was quick and the setup works well for a grab-and-go meal, with the staff moving efficiently through the line and the order coming together without much delay. It is a convenient option if you are already in the area and looking for something fast, but the value and seasoning could use some improvement. The space stays comfortable even during busy periods, and the overall experience is smooth and straightforward, though it leans more toward practicality than culinary excitement.

Boomin' Beef Rendang: This was my first time trying rendang, so I can't comment on its authenticity, but I'm certain it was delicious. It's very similar to a typical Chinese home-style beef brisket stew, just with a subtle touch of coconut milk and curry. The beef was perfectly marbled with fat and lean, stewed until incredibly tender and flavorful; the thick sauce clung to the meat and permeated the rice, making every bite a rich and aromatic experience. The potatoes were soft and tender, and the green beans had a slightly crunchy texture, both perfectly balanced. It's worth mentioning that the meat portion was huge; nearly half-bowl in the picture was completely filled with beef. While it's not anything fancy, it was really satisfying to eat it quickly without worry. With a coupon from a delivery platform, it only cost $10+, making it excellent value.
