DR Carter succeeded in giving me better than 20/20 which lasted over 16 years! As I conceded my age was beginning to affect my vision, I went back in Feb 2022. Salzmann Nodule Degeneration was seriously affecting both eyes, he explained. In March 2022, he performed surgery on both eyes to remove the nodules which will be recurring. He also used the latest technology to hopefully slow down the growths. Prokera. Prokera uses the amniotic membrane tissue in its products, which is preserved using the company's proprietary CRYOTEK® processing method to ensure the tissue retains its full biologic activity, Amniotic tissue has natural properties that help damaged eye surfaces heal. Prokera products promote faster and more effective healing of the cornea with less inflammation and scarring, leading to improved clinical outcomes with better vision. Sounds great eh? The process requires manually removing the nodules and then applying the Prokera lenses one eye at a time the day following surgery. The surgery, itself, isn't painful. The staff keeps you at ease and DR Carter is pretty quick and thorough. Now after the surgery, and wearing the Prokera lens for a week is not something I would love to do again, but I will, and just have to deal with it. It helps. I'm typing this review a few days later without any glasses and can see quite well. So it works. I posted a photo of the device next to a nickel. By day 5, it isn't so bad. Let me add something important. I will only let 2 people actually touch my eyes. DR Carter and one of his assistants. I trust no one else, not even me! Yes, he has worked on thousands (if not ten thousands of eyes) (Maybe he needs a sign over the door saying how many he's served.) I get the nod of approval from others he has taken care of when I mention who did the work, a few are fellow Yelpers. Many at my workplace. Some others are quite famous and had million dollar careers riding on their eyes. Huge impact on MANY lives. I see some poor reviews on here, and I guess some had bad experiences. My eyes and ears let me know he does have an amazing staff right now. I saw and heard how well that staff responds to their patients. 16 visits in a bit over a year, and not once heard or saw any patients being mishandled. If you think you have an issue, see/talk to David who is one of the best customer service/patience advocate trained people I've EVER met. 21 years, and still more than happy to trust him with my eyes.

Today an assistant did all the routine stuff like eye chart, glacoma test etc. I usually don't like assistants doing what I think the Dr should be. However,in this case, it felt ok and she did a great job. In addition, she did a test that maps your retina, which id never had done before. For those who dont know this is essentially a picture of the internal components of your eye. The reason they presented for this valuable test is, it can show early signs of problems and treatment can be implemented to make things better. It was optional but, I opted in and am glad I did. Dr, Harris then came in and reviewed the assistant's results, did a few checks himself, explained things and I was done. He is a very thorough and personable optometrist. To preface: I have worn glasses for 17 years and contact lenses for 13 years…read more Hands down, this was the worst experience I have ever had at an optometrist's office. Here were the highlights (or lowlights if you will) of my experience: 1. On my first appointment I arrived on time and it was 45 minutes before I even saw Dr. Linda. I had the first appointment of the day and I had scheduled it that way intentionally so that I could minimize my time away from work. The technician who ran the initial tests and showed me to my room saw the doctor come in and commented, "She's late again". 2. I had both an eye examination and a contact fitting evaluation.. I was given a contact lens prescription and a trial pair with less power than mine because they did not have my high power lenses in stock (this is typical in my experience). I put in the lenses and immediately mentioned that they right lens did not fit well. In response, I was told that it sometimes takes up to 15 minutes for the contact lens to settle. I was then told that I could check out at the front desk. I looked at the doctor in surprise and asked, "Are you not going to look at the fit of my contact lenses?". I was told to try them out for a week and if they didn't work I could come back. 2A. Unsurprising, the right contact lens indeed did not work out. So I had to make another appointment and come in again. After the 2nd appointment, I asked if another trial pair would be ordered. I was told that they could order another pair and then was pressured into purchasing a year supply right then. I responded that I was not comfortable with buying a year supply before I had even tried my new lens after which a few more attempts were made to get me to purchase a year supply. 2B. I picked up my 2nd trial pair of lenses and when I got home, I discovered they were not the right prescription. I called and the woman who answered the phone first tried to convince me that they were correct (which they were not) and then agreed to ship the 3rd pair to my apartment. 3. I also ordered two pairs of lenses after my initial examination, one for glasses and one for sunglasses. After the time frame for their arrival had elapsed, I called the office and was told that they had arrived that day and I could come pick them up. 30 minutes later, they called me back and I was told that while adjusting my glasses, they had scratched one of the lenses past the point of being able to use it. They did apologize and told me they would expedite the order of the replacement lens and that it would arrive on Monday of the following week. I called on Tuesday of the following week when I had not heard from Optix. I was told that my lens was in. I responded that I would pick them up on Thursday when I was there for my follow up contact lens fitting from 2A. 3A. When I arrived on Thursday, I again booked the earliest appointment available (8:45). Dr. LInda walked into the front door of the office at 9:00 with shopping bags and gave me an unfazed greeting. I was shortly after led into a waiting room. I left the room and asked if I could get my glasses fitted (with the replacement lens and all) while I waited. I was then told that the lens had not arrived. Not only had they NOT been expedited but I was falsely told that they had arrived when I called. So it took me one more trip to be able to get everything that I had ordered. 4. When I first saw Dr. Linda, she suggested daily contact lenses. I mentioned at 3 times during the appointment that I was worried they were cost-prohibitive for the frequency in which I use my contact lenses. Despite this, I was told they were ordering a trial pair of dailies for me in my prescription. I asked what the price was compared to my monthly contacts and they were indeed more than I wanted to pay. When I expressed this and asked for a trial pair of my old lenses I was treated with contempt and the response "So you're NOT interested in daily contact lenses at all?". No... 5. I was charged for a special mapping of the eye. I have seen these services offered at other places when you fill out your paperwork but there was always an opt-in/opt-out option. Not at Optix. I said that I did not agree to this service and they referred me to the sheet I signed saying that I was responsible for anything that my insurance did not pay. I agreed with this to an extent, but pointed out that on my examination sheet (which was left on the table) the box saying 'Patient declined mapping' (or something to that effect) was not checked and was not even mentioned to me. After I said this the receptionist reached over and took the paper saying, "That's for office use, not patient use." However, in the end they agreed to not charge me for the mapping. I will never be returning to Optix EyeCare & Gallery or Dr. Linda Fain Hatton. It was absolutely the worst service I have received. If you value your time and your money, do not go here.
