Large nice dining restaurant. Quick seating & service. Would recommend the Filete de Pollo. Served with white rice, black beans & Plantains. Chicken covered in sautéed onions was good & so were side items. Plantains are awesome exceptional to have at a Cuban restaurant. The Masas de Cerdo had a lot of fat which is the reason for the mid level rating. read more

Pros: Nice window view seating, lots of table options-not too squished, with nice ambiance created through warming decor. Delicious Cuban food at reasonable prices! Authentic to fresh ingredients, plate creation, and taste. We got the Cubano; which had yummy spicy mustard, crispy delicious fries, on a warm fresh bread. Con: Service was terrible. Waiter was nowhere to be found, we ran out of water, wanted mustard, but the only time we saw him was when he was walking to the hostess desk to play with the hostess' hair for a weird amount of time. We had to grab another waiter nearby to be helped. For airport food, I'd stop here again on a layover! read more

This would be a two star restaurant anywhere in Miami except at the airport. I understand that the food is going to be at a higher price point because it's at the airport so I can't ding them for that. On a recent trip to Mexico from St Louis we had a layover each way so we ate there twice. We had the picadillo with arroz blanco and maduros and it was all perfectly acceptable but not great. They did get dinged one star because they actually charged me for some Cuban bread which is a staple on every table at any Cuban restaurant I've ever been to and I'm originally a Miami native. Adding insult to injury it wasn't properly buttered and they didn't press it so it was room temperature. Being in the airport they have a captive clientele and I will eat there again if I'm passing through. read more

Stopped here before my flight. It is near D20. For airport food standard (and reg location even) it was really good. I was pressed for time and the food was out in no time. Fresh and full of flavors. I would recommend it to anyone looking for last min taste of cuban or latin food. read more

You can dine in or take to go- I'd recommend stopping by! I've had many different things here including chicken with salad, rice, beans, and coffee. I recommend trying their cortaditos with a sprinkle of cinnamon and chocolate syrup. It's super tasty! I'd also recommend this as one of the places within the airport to grab an empanada as well. Though a little salty, I find them to not be dripping in grease and I like the dough taste. I always have friendly customer service here too. read more

Ku-Va is a pretty decent breakfast place that is both comforting & affordable while awaiting your flight out of Miami International. What got my attention about this place was not the smell of food nor it's hospitality, but of the decor. A funny looking mannequin that was stationed at the front of the restaurant did that. Kudos to the management for this attention-getter. It certainly worked! The service was good, as well as the promptness in receiving my food. Considering that I was eating here at 6:30 AM after a sleepy holiday (Columbus Day), the very attractive brunette server refilled my coffee & water multiple times without prompting, as well as offered sincere small talk. While being seated toward the rear of the restaurant (my choice), I was able to kick back & relax to the sounds of a light samba ensemble while watching the passenger jets thirty feet from my window refuel. What a way to start the day at Miami International. Thank you for a good morning, Ku-Va! read more

I couldn't wait to get out of Miami. Not that I didn't enjoy this Coppertoned city, but it was hot and I was especially irritable because I had spent three days stuck in a hotel ballroom at a work-related conference. However, I did manage to wedge in a trip to Versailles, the self-proclaimed "World's Most Famous Cuban Restaurant", and enjoyed it enough to build up my anticipation of eating at its airport location before my departure. Visions of oxtail stew and yuca croquettes filled my head as I traipsed up and down the long corridor of Miami International's terminal. Imagine my forlorn face as I saw that Versailles was just a bakery counter, not the full-blown restaurant. As I was down on my knees pounding the linoleum with my fists and screaming like an Edvard Munch painting come to life, I turned around and noticed this place. OK, so it wasn't Little Havana, but it did have a menu of surprisingly hearty Cuban fare although oxtail stew was conspicuously missing (photo: http://bit.ly/1wS2QJC). Probably just as well since I wouldn't want something that had been simmering in an airport kitchen. Jet fumes, y'know. Anyway, getting the attention of a waiter was a challenge as is usual at the airport since everybody says they're in a hurry. I'm the type that comes to an airport two hours early even for domestic flights, so I could wait. When I finally had a chance, I ordered the $14.95 Ropa Vieja Isleña. It was a pile of shredded beef in what they called a creole sauce, i.e., tomato-based heavy on the cayenne, accompanied by black beans, plantains and rice (photo: http://bit.ly/1sVQOHx). The beef part wasn't bad. Not outstanding but I wouldn't have expected it to be. The plantains were deep-fried and looked more like McNuggets, and the rice was generic. Since I still had time to kill, I also had the $5.95 Homemade Coconut Flan (photo: http://bit.ly/13rvdlC). I have an unusually high tolerance for mediocre flan since I just like the sweet eggy flavor. They managed that even though the texture was spongy enough to bounce a peso off of it. Well, I have to hand it to Ku-Va for at least attempting to provide the last Miami meal I was looking for since I guess Versailles couldn't be bothered. FOOD - 3 stars...hearty shredded beef was surprisingly good but the rest was mostly airport-level fare AMBIANCE - 2.5 stars...it's the airport so lots of formica and plenty of luggage rollers that may run over your toes SERVICE - 2.5 stars...he eventually came by TOTAL - 3 stars...if you want Cuban food as your last meal in Miami, well, here's your last shot read more

In the middle of our ~10 hour delay (1st weather at SFO, then mechanical issues on the runway) they let us off the plane while they diagnosed things so people could get dinner. Time for repairs was not provided (turned out to be a new plane hours later) so I went with the quick sandwich option and got the Medianoche ($6.95 (like Cuban sandwich ($7.95 here), but a little smaller and on egg batter bread instead of the normal Cuban bread http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/ku-va-miami?select=rxwu7w9pUt8F4DUFr_pDzQ#LCZSuzze-OAg7yGHc-JAZw) A little pricier, but much better toasted (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/ku-va-miami?select=rxwu7w9pUt8F4DUFr_pDzQ#nkoKgBh1MxC5bU-v8QUVJg) than what I'd gotten at Cafe Versailles a few gates down earlier in the day. Definitely hit the spot, though like at Cafe Versailles, I would have liked more pickles (there was one round slice per half) Ku-Va also has a sit-down restaurant and bar areas, if you're not stressing over time (which it turns out we didn't need). read more

I still can't believe that this was airport food! I had a layover on my way home from Curaçao, and after the hellish experience that is going through customs in Miami, I was famished (and hangry is not what you want to be when you're flying). I had about 30 minutes until my flight boarded and I wanted, no, needed, a well made cocktail and a delicious salad (I hadn't had a decent serving of vegetables the whole time I was on vacation). I was not sure if there was a hostess, so I stood at the door for a few minutes until one of the servers invited me to come in and sit anywhere I liked. My server, Odalys, was great. I explained to her that my flight was boarding soon, and she made sure that I got what I needed in time. The mojito I ordered was, hands down, the best mojito I've ever had (again... this is at an airport!). Odalys asked if I wanted Cuban or house rum. Cuban, duh! (-: Maybe that's what made it taste so good... I dunno. But it was excellent. I only wish that I had time for a second. I ordered the MIA Salad for dinner: grilled skirt steak over lettuce, with tomato slices, guacamole and a vinaigrette dressing. It took longer to prepare than I expected, so I asked my server to prepare it to go. She made sure I had utensils and plenty of napkins and sent me on my way with a smile. I don't know what everyone else on my flight was eating, but I definitely had the most delicious dinner on that plane. The skirt steak was so tender and juicy, you almost didn't need teeth to eat it. It was so flavorful and cooked to a perfect medium. And it was a very generous portion of steak. A very filling and delicious way to end a vacation. You can find Ku-Va in the D terminal, right in front of Gate D 19. If you've got some time to kill in between flights, this is a great place to stop in for cocktails and a bite to eat. The food is phenomenal. The service is fantastic. Although I absolutely cannot stand this airport, if I'm ever passing through MIA again, I'm heading straight to Ku-Va. read more

2.5 stars and rounded up because service was pretty fast and the food was edible Landed in MIA at 7am after an 8-hour flight from South America and needed to kill 3 hours for my connecting flight, so I had breakfast here since it was near my gate. First off, the Reggeton music was blaring. Not just somewhat loud - blaring! I ordered decaf coffee, in Spanish, and scrambled eggs with hash browns and Cuban toast. So instead of a cafe con leche, I get an American coffee with half and half. What? In a Cuban restaurant in Miami? Okay, so I didn't specifically order the cafe con leche and just made the assumption, but my server didn't offer, which is weird. The eggs and hash brown were okay, but the Cuban toast was meh. At least it was toasted, but it wasn't pressed. I don't think I'm asking too much here. I think next time I'll just walk over to Versailles. read more

"Visiting" Miami via connecting flight. Feeling sad coming home from an excellent vacation, so gotta enjoy Cuban food while avoiding the reality of having to cook my own food once I get back. The feeling of denial is strong. I had an hour till my next flight, so plenty of time to sit back and relax. Or not... Service was great at the beginning: walked up to the restaurant, got seated, and ordered fairly quickly. It was after eating where the service became practically nonexistent. Waited 15 minutes for the check (had to flag them down) and another 10 for them to pick it up. Doesn't sound like much, but when you got a flight that isn't gonna wait for you, it's added unnecessary stress. You'd think a restaurant in an airport would move a bit faster. It's a shame cause the food is actually pretty good. I order the Fried Beef and my girlfriend got the Creole Shrimp. The beef was dry and the fried plaintains could've been a bit more crispy. However, the rice and beans were on point and the flavor of the beef was great. The shrimps were cooked perfectly with that desirable crunchy snap. Despite the slow service, if I find myself flying through MIA I would definitely be eating here again. read more

I know it's an airport restaurant and expectations start low, but we waited 30 min for a tortilla with frozen broccoli and unmelted cheese and a sandwich without any sauce or flavor whatsoever. To top it all of, they added mandatory 15% gratuity which they did not deserve. We would have paid less and gotten better food at Starbucks. It took so long we almost missed our flight. read more

So I had some time before my flight home and decided to get a nice, Cuban dinner from Ku-Va. ah! I didn't realize until I typed that just now that when you say the name aloud and pronounce the "V" like you should when speaking Spanish, it sounds like Cu-Ba! How creative. Ok.... so. I was all set to have a nice home cooked Cuban dinner. And when I saw ropa vieja, I got excited. The bartender who took my order immediately tried to correct me and told me to get the flank steak as it was much better. This was very sweet of him, however I was very excited about the ropa vieja, so I stuck with that. My meal arrived promptly as it should since we are in the airport and most people are in a hurry. However to my dismay the meet was nearly lukewarm. The rice, however, and the black beans and the sweet plantains were delicious and I was hungry so I ate about half of it. The next time I may listen to the bartender :-) I didn't catch his name, unfortunately. read more

I went to this shop just to break some big bills and it was the only shop I saw that had some Red Bull. I had a long day ahead of me and needed a good pick me up so in addition to my red bull I purchased a cup of tea. The tea wasn't too bad, it was a black tea with milk and sugar, only thing they simply gave me a cup of hot water with the tea bag, sugar etc. on the side. The service was okay - it was the to go Kiosk outside the restaurant so I guessing that is why there was a difference in service. Sometimes a line would start to form, given it was a high traffic area. However, there were two workers that just seemed to not know how to control the area when they got busy. read more

The food here is not good at all. We ordered the empanadas, potato's and plantain. None of it was enjoyable to eat. They also made mixed drinks that were mediocre. The decor is outdated, tacky and cold. Our server was good, but when we didn't eat any of our food and he didn't ask us if something was wrong with it, I didn't feel he deserved a 20% tip. He has the audacity to come to us after we gave 12% and ask us why. Bad food. Don't go here. Not sure why other people reviewed it well at all. read more

If you look up at the ceiling inside Ku-Va (pronounced "Cuba"), you will see giant dominoes. I didn't even realize what they were at first. Dominoes are a symbol of Cuba, but especially of the Cuban community in Miami's Little Havana neighborhood. I think that the airport Cuban food at Ku-Va is better than at La Carreta, but it's less crowded because it's a sit down restaurant with normal waiters rather than a cafeteria line. First impression.... Not the best service. They just dropped the eggs and dissapeared. I had to get up to get someone. And then when she finally shows up she makes a weird face to my request lol. I shouldn't be asking for much is only 6 am. I'm just happy I found fresh eggs at the airport, and fresh hashbrown... Although hey greasy. Not the best treat. This has a horrible experience eating at this restaurant in the Miami airport. I ordered chicken soup, salad and the veggie quesadilla. The veggie quesadilla was supposed to have broccoli, peppers and onions and when it came out, it was filled with tons of cooked mushy carrots. I did eat a little bit pushing the carrots aside. I Double checked the menu to make sure I hadn't misread it and when I realized that there were no carrots listed, I requested to speak to the server who got the manager. The manager was extremely rude. He told me I had to pay for this because I ate a little bit of it. No explanation as to why carrots were in there when they shouldn't have been. I will never go back here! I think everybody should be wary this is not a reputable place. I tried to resolve the issue again with manager, and he had the gall to tell me that I am a troublemaker. Was super rude. I've never been treated like this before in a restaurant ever. read more

This is NOT your typical airport restaurant. Solid mojito performance. Stellar ropa vieja.
