There is a takeout counter but the main dining area is set up for cafeteria dining. the staff is used to answering questions and very helpful getting patrons and their bags to a table. I wasn't too hungry so I opted for just the cuban sandwhich because im not sure what a good one consisted of. The cuban sandwhich i had here was decent. Not sure about La Carreta Cafe. I flew overnight to Miami and grabbed something to eat on my next flight. I did wait about an hour after ordering to eat the sandwich, but I was underwhelmed. The bread was hard to bite- I really had to pull hard to cut through the bread. The cheese was nothing special-just average American sliced orange melted cheese. When I got into Miami, I wanted some coffee, but couldn't find a place until an airport worker directed me to La Carreta. My sister and her BFF wouldn't come in for at least another hour, so I decided to get a snack and a Cuban espresso. They had a variety of Cuban pastries (empanadas, pastels, croquettes, etc) as well as more full meals. I went with a Papa Rellana, a Chicken Empanada, a Pastel Guava and a Cuban espresso. Everything hit the spot and was delicious! I was at a little bit of a disadvantage when I arrived as most of the employees spoke Spanish, and I didn't. But they were able to get my order in and it was all great! I even stopped by at the location near American Airlines on my way out from Miami. I went with a Jumbo Colada and sipped it throughout the course of my plane to LA. The Pastel Guava was a must again! This location was a little more busy, as it was in a busier location. Tried out La Carreta in the Miami airport during a flight stopover. A key sign that this place was good, was that the line was LONG! But had time while waiting for the connecting flight, so got in line. It was earlier in the morning, so I wasn't sure if I could get a good Cuban sandwich. Well, I was able to and glad I did! Stopped at this place on a layover. I liked the idea of a cafeteria style meal. Everyone was nice and the food was ok. Of course you pay airport prices. I just dont think it's very user friendly. There was nothing indicating the price of any dish or how the whole system worked. Some places hadn't opened but judging by the line and the number of people inside the actual restaurant, seemed this would be a good place to grab a bite. I love the food in Miami and was happy to see Cuban food in the terminal. Based on the reviews, I tried 2 empanadas - beef and chicken. Wanted a quick snack before my flight and La Carreta Cafe caught my eye! They sell a variety of pastries and coffee products here which was perfect. ICED CAFE CON LECHE - 3.99 Sadly, they didn't have almond milk, so I had to go with whole milk. Also, it's not even an espresso shot - it's just whatever drip coffee they have and whole milk. The drip coffee was a bit burnt and not impressive. Overall, I definitely would not get this again. CHICKEN EMPANADA - 2.85 This was very tasty and a very good price. The empanada wasn't very big so it was the perfect snack. The pastry itself was super crispy and tasted fresh. Lots of chicken and veggies inside which were all flavorful. I'd definitely recommend the empanada here! It's not even airport inflated pricing here. I thought it would be over $10 for what I wanted, but was shocked to see that my total including tax was less than $7.50. read more

I visited this restaurant during a layover because it was close to my gate & there were a lot of people dining here. It also had good reviews on yelp. There is a large dining area with tables and booths inside of the restaurant. Trays and silverware can be obtained near the entrance prior to choosing your food. Desserts and salads are also on display near the front of the business. The food is displayed in dishes behind a glass. There is a large variety of meats and sides for you to choose from. Your meal is plated by the servers right away so you don't have to wait for your meal to be cooked. I liked the fact that the dishes are labeled for easy identification. After I got my food an employee walked my tray over to the cashier so that I could pay. My tray was then taken to an empty table by a server. She observed that I did not order a drink so she brought me over a cup of ice water and napkins. I got the roasted chicken, rice and beans and fries. The food was reasonably priced for the location and the portion sizes that I received. Unfortunately the chicken was over cooked, dry, and did not taste like it was seasoned. The rice had good flavor and was tasty but the fries tasted like they had been sitting out for a while and were not hot. It was not bad but I still give 5 stars because customer service was amazing if you speak Spanish, if not, the ladies' English was limited. After I stuffed my face with the empanadas n had a yummy caramelized flan, nobody had it caramelized any more, they added honey or vanilla or coffee!! This was authentic flan! I no longer could eat more, that was when I saw the back of the cafe was the real Carreta restaurant w the spectacular buffet that they extended as far as the eyes could see, I took all the pictures I could including of people plates!!
