Awesome Cuban food. Can't believe I was able to get authentic Cuban food in the airport. Yummy.

Airport food is usually not terribly exciting and cost a premium because you're trapped inside and most likely hungry and have a long flight ahead. With that said, some items were hit or miss. Don't remember the actual name of these items, but this is what I had. Pork sandwich - avoid: very salty, not good, bread taste like paper. Fries - go for it, very crispy! Thinly sliced plantain chips - addictive. The sweet, vinegary garlic sauce was intriguing and delicious. Chimchurri sauce also tasty too. read more

We had dinner at Ku-Va, located in the Miami airport, before our flight home when we visited Miami in early May 2017. We ordered the "I love Lucy Arroz Con Pollo" (Chicken & Yellow Rice), which came with saffron chicken and yellow rice and was served with sweet plantains. The menu hilariously said "Just like Ricky made it" to describe this dish. It was pretty tasty, but for $14, we only got a very small, meager portion of chicken and sides. I wasn't too impressed. The food was fine, but just nothing extraordinary and the portion was small for the price. Service was also a bit slow, and that is my main issue. We felt a bit crunched for time before our flight. If you're crunched for time as well, I'd recommend not dining at this restaurant. Not a bad option if you're waiting for a flight at the Miami airport, but it wouldn't be my first choice next time. read more

Skip the lines for Versailles and come here instead when you're at this terminal. Tried them for breakfast before boarding my flight (picked up something from their counter and didn't eat there.) Their guava and meat pastries were very yummy and just what you would get at any good Cuban bakery in the city. Theyre fast with service as well. They take cards. Also noticed they have this nice breakfast buffet with bacon, eggs, pancakes ready to go in the mornings! If I wasn't craving a pastelito so much I would have tried the buffet. May be next time. Actually no Miami is the only time I get delicious pastelitos so let me not lie to ya'll. One of the better options in this terminal and less lines (yeah I'm talking to you Versailles and Starbucks.) read more

On our annual vacation layover to Jamaica, we were craving so authentic cuban food and flavor and that's exactly what we got here! The server were so kind and polite, the vibe was colorful yet exciting, and the Cuban sandwich was everything to write home about! Can't wait to go back it all went by so fast. But I wasn't too fond of the ceviche. read more

Pick another spot. Ordered an omelette with tomato, peppers, onion and Manchego cheese. It came out sopping wet with grease. It was packed with raw onion and only a couple specks of gray bell pepper and pale tomato. When I took a bite I found the under-side of the eggs were burned. They have two choices of toast and managed to get mine wrong. The coffee is crap. The waitress was attentive and my husband enjoyed his Cuban breakfast wrap, so it wasn't a total loss. Hiding the burned side of the omelette pissed me off so, one star it is. read more

I don't think I've ever eaten at an airport restaurant / eatery and said the food was genuinely fantastic... until Ku-Va. By far one of the best Cuban dishes I've ever had, and I've eaten a LOT of Cuban. Grabbing lunch on a vacation-bound layover, my fiance and I wanted something filling but not huge. We settled for an appetizer and drink each. TAMAL CON LECHON. End of story. The tamal came in its leaf wrapper and was really well made, but the lechon darn near made me cry it was so good. A hefty portion of slow roast pork nice and moist with a few crispy edges. It was covered with a pretty large portion of sliced white onion which I almost passed over. Thank goodness I didn't! I'm very anti-raw onion, but these were pickeled and vinegary - a perfect counterpoint to the savory rich lechon. The fiance had the chicken wings - a generous portion of moderately spicy, bone in wings. He gave his approval, but I didn't try. I also have to give a nod to the skill of the bartenders. My bloody mary was delicious, and the bartender was just a really cool nice guy. We also watched him crank out a variety of specialty cocktails to put out as demo/ model drinks. They were beautiful. Seriously if Ku-Va were a restaurant in my area, I'd go to eat there regularly. For now, I'll have to wait for the next time I'm in Miami airport. read more

OMG!!! So.... I'm at Miami International Airport and have like two hours to kill plus I'm hungry so I sat to eat breakfast at Ku-Va. I travel a lot so I've walked by this restaurant in the American Airlines terminal a million times. Today, I decided to try it because it's right next to my gate and I honestly don't want to walk around to much. I ordered an ordinary breakfast so I don't want to get into describing how good that was cuz it was just bacon, hash browns and eggs. I really want to talk about the Bloody Mary I ordered, Lol. I ordered it just because I wasn't so excited about bacon and eggs. I mean it's 7AM and need to pump myself up for the rest of the day. ***YOU MUST ORDER A BLOODY MARY. ***It's delicious and you get to build your own. That's right folks. You get to pretend you're a little bartender and customize your garnish on your personal Bloody Mary cocktail. The server plopped my cocktail down on the table in front of me and I was pleased of course but then he came back seconds later with an entire rolling serving cart stocked with everything and anything you could think of to build your own Bloody Mary. WHAT? These people know that Bloody Mary cocktail drinkers really do LIKE their Bloody Mary's. To name a few items in the cart; I was able to garnish my Bloody Mary with capers, olives, kosher pickles, baby corn, peppers, lime, celery, artichoke and I know I'm missing a ton of items from my list but I'll continue with letting to know that I had a choice of about 8 different hot sauces and five spices to adorn my baby. Service is great. I've experienced really good service at this airport and this restaurant treated me well. No complaints. I was seated quickly and everyone was in a hurry to make my meal pleasant. So do yourself a favor, sit and enjoy a bite and order a Bloody Mary for the road. read more

The only reason I chose to stop by and peruse this place was cause all other restaurants and bars seemed packed, and Ku-Va's wasn't. Initially, I thought about my observation and believed it to be unrelated to food and service. After the fact, I may have been amiss. The dine-in service was frankly unpleasant. I found myself waiting at the hostesses stand for around 10-13 minutes even though again, there were barely any customers inside the restaurant. Due to this, I abandoned the thought of having a pleasant, dine in meal and migrated to the bar instead. At the bar, I ordered water, soda, empanadas, and the salty platanos with a side of garlic infused green sauce. Honestly, I was a bit disappointed as I expected the plantains to be exude more flavor and less greasy but again, it's airport food so I wasn't too shocked. The food was unexceptional at best; but granted, similar to all other airport food - nothing special. Much to my dismay, I was pleasantly surprised by the bar service. I think it would be immoral if I didn't say that one of the bartenders, who's name slipped my mind, was perhaps one of the most cordial, not exclusive to bartenders, but people I had ever met. She was tall and I believe she said her parents were from Cuba and/or Europe (just for your knowledge). Due to delays, I was posted at the airport for 5 hours. And not only did she make those hours pass by much faster, but she made an impression that I may never forget. All in all, the bar service was spectacular, the food characterless and forgettable, and the dine in service unwelcoming. I now know to stick with a bagel and cream cheese when at airports. 2/5 stars just for that one bartender. read more

Ku-Va - Fried Tostones - Cuban Near Me - Miami, Florida

Food was ok, service was horrible. Even for airport dining, I wouldn't recommend eating here.

Pretty basic food. 1 star because I asked for water and was served a 5$ bottle of Fuji. I was confused by this and thought maybe they didn't have drinkable tap water? As I finished my meal I noticed the table next to me drinking what seemed to be tap water so I asked my server Emilio if he could remove the charge. He refused because I had drank some of the water already... I feel dumb but seriously why would you think I want a 5$ bottled water if you have free stuff? read more

Horrible service waited 15 minutes for someone to greet me when I flagged them down a several occasions, when I finally got a menu the server never came back so I walked up to the bar to get my food. Food was late. I had to put in to go box and run and catch my flight. To make matters worse. Florida has a law that allows the addition of a gratuity automatically! I made for Shite service! What a joke. Avoid this place!@ read more

Last night was my third time here and it's a pretty standard stop now when I'm passing through MIA. Miami is my hometown, although I moved away in '92, I do miss Cuban food but rarely come to visit anymore. So while passing through I try to fit in a visit to Ku-Va as this is the best restaurant I've found in the airport where you can sit down, relax a little, and have a nice meal. Fairly traditional menu items like palomilla steak or sandwich, ropa vieja, and picadillo which come with rice, beans and plantains. Being a Miami native I'll say this place was not my best experience, but being an airport restaurant it's surprisingly good. Anyway, that has been my experience. I see that other people have not had good experiences here and that is certainly possible. My three times have been great, and last night my wife joined me and had the palomilla sandwich that tasted great! In fact between both of us we couldn't finish it, although I had the picadillo dinner and a nice cold beer. So I was stuffed and my dinner was also delicious. I've had the ropa vieja on a previous trip, and it was surprisingly good too. Pretty sure I'll stop in whenever I have the chance. It's right next to D20 in the AA terminal. read more

We had the Tamal Con Lechon which were good seeing as it was airport food. But the Cuban sandwich was a disgrace. This place should not call themselves a Cuban restaurant... The waiter was even from Cuba, and the food definitely is not. The Cuban was barely warm, no grill lines definitely not grilled like the description says. No mustard was on the sandwich, and there was one total pickle on the whole thing. The cheese wasn't even melted.... And it was $15. When we asked the waiter about it he told us he didn't understand what we were talking about and it wasn't his fault it is the kitchens fault. Don't go here I am sure there are better choices, at least cheaper. read more

Decent portions, nice desserts and we loved the meat pastries

Pros: food was yummy and not horrendously overpriced for an airport Cons: $12+ drink was fairly weak. Service was bad. Waiter was nowhere to be found, ran out of water and the only time I saw him was when he was walking to the hostess desk to seat someone and from 10 feet away asked me if I was good. They add a gratuity to the check (for ONE person) and then still have a tip line on the receipt. read more

I didn't have any food, but my Bloody Mary was amazing. I spied on other people's plates and the food looked fresh and tasty. This place is a fusion of Cuba and American cuisine. I usually avoid airport food if possible, however we had a long flight and it couldn't be avoided. So happy that we got to try this great little eclectic restaurant. The specialize in Cuban food with flair. We had a seafood special of the day which was a bit pricy but definitely enough for two and could be split. The textures and flavors were true to the Cuban advertisement. I had the beef strip with rice, beans and fried plantains. It came with sautéed onion and was impeccable. Wish we lived closer! read more

I was at the MIA airport terminal D and wanted to have a last minute taste of Cuban/Latin food before I left. It was located in terminal D 19 I believe so it was a quick enough walk for me to sit down and eat. I got the flank steak with white rice and black beans with 3 sweet plantain on the side and it was so good and filling. Food could have been a little more hot but that was the only con. Good vibes in the restaurant, came out quick, and my meal was around 16 bucks. I got a coke and that added on like 3 something dollars and then of course tip so it ended up being more expensive than I thought but I didn't have too much of a problem with it! I've had better Cuban food but then again, it is what it was for an airport and filled me up which was okay. If I'm ever back, I would probably go again! read more

Ku-Va - I got the flank steak with grilled onions white rice with black beans sauce and sweet plantains on the side - Cuban Near Me - Miami, Florida

Very disappointing. We needed to kill some time at the airport, and the food displayed looked and smelled really good. After looking at the menu outside the restaurant (with prices), we asked for a table for two. The hostess asked "Do you want to see a menu?" which we were shocked by since she just saw us staring at the menu. Did we not belong? We sat down at a table where we were asked what we wanted to drink. We ordered water to drink, and the ice cubes melted before we were poured another glass throughout our meal. We ordered chicken and rice, and a cuban sandwich. The rice and plantains with the chicken were the best part.. very flavorful and filling. The chicken was dry and barely had any flavor. The cuban sandwich was the worst. Have you ever tried a baked ham and cheese sandwich? with cold cheese? If there was mustard or any other flavor, you could not taste it. I understand the food being a little more expensive for being at an airport, but save yourself money and an experience by trying out another restaurant. read more

ehhh, not too good. at least not for brunch. after a little more than 2 weeks out of the country and 2 international connecting flights, I was craving some good 'murican breakfast. 3-hour layover in Miami airport = stuck with airport food, so yelped and picked ku va because of the decent reviews. maybe lunch/dinner here are okay, but I wouldn't recommend breakfast. eggs benedict were way overdone. like hardboiled. womp. bacon was rubbery. womp. french toast was dry. womp. service was le slow. womp. on the positive side: relaxing atmosphere and fair-for-airports pricing. thankfully the Starbucks around the corner had pumpkin spice lattes to make me almost forget about the wompiness of this meal. read more

We happened to eat here on a layover to the Caribbean, but my husband and I both think this is one of the tastiest cuban meals we've had, which is saying a LOT considering my husband has cuban family members! We each grabbed a chicken leg and thigh combo with plantains and beans and rice at the to-go station because we didn't want to wait to order at the restaurant given our short layover. We were then told that we could take our to-go orders and eat in a booth in the restaurant since it wasn't too busy. The chicken was tender and well-seasoned. The plantains were cooked perfectly, soft and not too oily. Beans and rice were great as well. We couldn't get over how inexpensive it was, came out to around $20 for the two us with drinks. Afterwards we joked that in the future if we ever have a layover in Miami again, that we're definitely going to eat here again! read more

Good Cuban food staff was very welcoming and provided good recommendations for the meal

Anyone giving this less than five stars either ordered something they wouldn't have liked anyway, or forgot that Ku Va is in an airport. And for that second point alone, Ku Va is a triumph. "Authenticity" is a common way to describe meat-and-potatoes Cuban joints in Miami, but given its location, it is remarkable that this place has nailed the personality (and smell) of a strange off-the-highway, family-owned spot. And unpretentiously so. Blue neon. Bright lights. A wide variety of vernacular lagers from the Caribbean and beyond. A really weird mannequin leaning up against the bar. And yes - food, too. The roasted pork is divine. The tamale-like object (I forget the name) was perfect. The bartender was nonplussed. I wondered whose grandmother was in the kitchen cooking all that meat. It was not the work of a mortal. Are there more historic joints? Are there even wiser grandmothers cooking even more tender pork bits elsewhere in south Florida? Yes, and probably, yes. But not in an airport. A place where good food goes to die. Across from a Cinnabon. Love, in an otherwise hopeless place. read more

This is not really Cuban food for breakfast at least. The price points are over the top and every protein is extra. I understand the square footage which they took over probably two Gaye's is costing them a pretty penny but the food is not really worth it. The service is really good and I will give them that, but the quality of the food is mediocre. If they lowered their prices or included more items in their combinations dishes it would help. I am sure nothing will change it is Miami all about flash no substance. read more

It's airport food. The staff knows you aren't likely to return, so their service is just meh. The red beans and rice - amazing. Just because we were so hungry, my parents and I decided to eat at Ku-Va. We were sold on the "fake food" display plates, one in particular, the Arroz con pollo (chicken with rice). The display plate had a juicy ¼ thigh-leg with nice saffron rice and fried plantains. We got a nice booth seating. Service and food are fast. No sooner had all three of us ordered the chicken plate, it appeared. The taste was lack lustre. But again, because we were hungry, the carb and fried banana combo really hit the spot. Not sure about the other dishes, but you can pass the arroz con pollo. read more

3.5/5 Pretty good service; food overly salted but generous portions. Ambience is comfortable and inviting. I love that everyone speaks both English and Spanish. I'd say it's overpriced, but what isn't at the airport? We wanted a booth but none were available so went to the bar for apps and wait for an open one.
