I received a coupon in the mail for a "Free 24 pack Kroger Water" and the store didn't honor it, stating the offer was for Purified not Spring water which I totally understand, BUT the coupon did not stipulate a type. When I asked them about it, I was treated as if I was being difficult, not that their publication was misleading or unspecific. Spring water was the only option on the floor at the time and the coupon didn't specify one or the other. It shouldn't have been a big deal especially since both were the same price at the time. This is my first and probably only Yelp review that I'd ever take my time to write. This Kroger is part of the busy Breckenridge Shopping Center in/around Chester and right off of I-95. It is moderately sized and not as big as the Krogers in Chester that are in more rural areas and thus have far more space to build. The Kroger itself is quite good in its offerings and quality of products but I found it to be a bit crowded, whether in the parking lot or in the store itself. The store just feels a bit crammed due to both the number of people this Kroger serves in its locale and in the actual layout of the store. The store also just had an antique feel to it in terms of its luster and atmosphere - it didn't feel as updated/modern as some other Krogers in/around the area or in general. read more

Have you seen or heard the Kroger commercials that are blasted all over TV and radio recently? They're all about the company guaranteeing freshness and touts that only the freshest, best produce is selected for each store. This store did NOT get that memo. I remember when this location first opened. It was the equivalent of Chester getting a Wegmans. The store was immaculate, the produce super fresh and the butcher counter rivaled local shops. The store is now unrecognizable. My last few trips have been extremely disappointing, but it was my most recent trip on a Friday night that sealed the deal for this being the last visit. I fully understand we're still in the middle of a pandemic, which means shipping delays and staffing shortages. I don't hold it against the company for not being able to keep the shelves stocked. However, I do expect the items that are in stock to be fresh, free of mold and not riddled with flies. The produce department was probably one of the most disgusting produce sections I have ever visited. Many of the items I needed were not available, and the products that were available were not consumable. There was a bin of jalapeno peppers that were wrinkled, smashed, moldy and swimming in a puddle of mush. It was literally gag-inducing. I moved on to the packages of grape and cherry tomatoes. Every pack I picked up produced a swarm of fruit flies and/or gnats that came flying out of the containers. There were two bundles of parsley left on the shelf, but the leaves were all brown and slimy. The worst part of this wasn't even the extreme nastiness of the products, but the fact that there were two employees hanging out in the produce department just chit-chatting. I walked past them several times and was never greeted or asked if I needed assistance. They weren't cleaning out the nasty bins, stocking the items or doing anything about the deplorable state of the produce section. I gave up on the rest of my produce list and moved to the meat section .... Again, many items on my list were out of stock, but I picked up a few packages of pork chops, a tenderloin and a pack of country ribs. Is anyone surprised to know that when I got home and opened the country ribs and the tenderloin, they were both ROTTEN?! Both had sell-by dates that were over a week away and the color of the meat looked fine. However, rotten egg/ammonia smell almost knocked me out. Not sure that the store would have known to pull these items; they easily could have been carried around in someone's cart and then put back after being stored improperly. But after this awful experience added to the last few mediocre trips to this store, I will not shop here again. Also: not a deal breaker on its own, but the parking lot here is always a complete nightmare. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of one is because the checkout associates are always friendly. None of the employees on the floor ever speak, even when I make eye contact, but the front-end staff is always pleasant. read more

I use to come to this krogers.. the workers there were all nice and welcoming like I use to love coming here but now It's the worse place tbh. It has been the shittiest customer service the last few times I been there. About a month ago me and my daughter pulled up to the front of the store so I can look to see how much some flowers were, which only took like 20 sec and I'm walking back and I see this guy (I'm guessing he was a manager cause he had a buttoned up Kroger shirt on but no name tag) talking to my daughter and getting loud with her and yelling at her to move the car (mind u my daughter is only 12) so I told him not to b yelling at my daughter like that and that she wasn't old enough to drive obviously and so we left ,, and also there were two other cars that were up there too but he didn't say anything to them..Well Today was the last straw for me!! I walk into Kroger's with my little Pomeranian like I always do (he is a service dog btw) so I'm shopping, holding my dog, minding my own business then all of a sudden this guy walks up to me (and I realized it was the same guy that yelled at my daughter) and he told me (very rudely) and at first he said "he can't b in here" I said "he's my service dog, I have his papers and service id and everything" then he says "you can't hold ur dog he has to be put on a leash" but it was the way he said it and how he said it...... I have really bad diabetes so my dog can smell my breath to detect it so I'm suppose to be allowed to carry him if I need too but no that manager guy kept telling me he had to b on a leash and he started to get loud with me for no reason. I didn't even get a "hey how are you" or "hey welcome to krogers" or anything.... I had asked him for his name cause again he had no name tag. HE SAID HIS NAME WAS MARTIN.. I ain't never have any store workers or managers come up to me at any store and treat me the way he did or even say anything to me about my dog for being in the store for that matter. He was very uneducated about anything that has to do with service dogs. Technically he's not suppose to ask me if he's a service animal or anything like that. But yeah he was very rude to me he didn't greet me or anything,he was unkind, nasty, made me feel like I was unwanted there, hateful, unfriendly, and a little foul. So in order for me to post this review, I have to rate it a star, so tbh If I could give this rating "negative stars" then I would. I don't plan on coming back to that store unless there is new management cause he's a pretty shitty one. This Kroger is big like the rest ... First one in the Chester area. Deli area is always in need of at least one more set of hands. They do carry Boars Head deli meats which is why I go in there. Bad. This is the second trip we've made this month to where we were in line for over 35 minutes. Last time it was over an hour. This time I went to the manager, Daron. After explaining why there was one checker checking out the entire store and bagging the groceries, Daron proceeded on correcting the way I said his name. The reason for the one checker according to the manager, was a short staff. I just want this to go on to record that that's what the excuse was. I hope it's true. It's very forgivable. I put a call into corporate because after today, my husband and I are no longer going to shop at the store. It started off good but ended poorly. No more melted ice cream and semi rotten meat by the time we get home after standing in those long, long lines. I haven't been in a Kroger in a long while. I think this is the only Kroger I'd ever been too. I remember when this was a K-Mart and then that was closed, torn down and this Kroger was built. I was amazed by that. I thought it was opulent. Tearing down a building which I believed had good bones to build a new grocery store across the street from Ukrop's.* Well that was over a decade ago and alas, I was back in Kroger. My first impression was how crowded the parking lot was. It seemed like everyone from miles around was here, at the same time. But once I parked and entered, I thought that the store wasn't too crowded. I was looking for an açai drink. None in particular, just anyone I could find. I ended up settling on some probiotic blend that wasn't selling because it was marked down. With this in hand I made my way to the register and was pleased to find self-checkout. I paid for my drink and left, not really as impressed with the vast selection of wares Kroger had to offer. Pretty much the best place this side of Chester to shop for groceries but it certainly isn't my favorite place. Parking - lot is always super full, even in the morning time at opening which even Krogers in more populated areas like Carytown don't have a problem with. I think a lot of this is due to not having another Kroger closer to Colonial Heights so people from all parts of town come here. Then they decided to add clicklist spots one day. I will say I'm already against the idea in the first place, the fact that people are too lazy to go in and shop for themselves is incredibly sad, however not only is this yet another store that supports this laziness but they added entirely too many spots forcing the majority of 'normal' traffic to park far away from the front of the store. Selection - Food selection is what you'd expect in Chester, ethnic food choices are limited and overpriced, but still more than anything nearby. A lot of time I get coupons for things they don't sell. They do have a frozen vegetarian section, not that those are the healthiest options, but it's nice to see in an area like this. Beer - Beer selection is crap, which is surprising since pretty much every other Kroger does beer relatively well. I'd say there's 70% domestic (bud, coors, miller etc), 25% craft (pretty much all gross IPAs) and a measly 5% import which is standard mexican stuff and Heineken, nothing that couldn't be found in a gas station. However 12pk+ beer prices are good, much better than surrounding stores. Options at the Kroger up rt.10 in Chesterfield are a bit better plus they have a wine tasting bar which is good, I guess if you like that sort of thing :/ I was pretty upset one night I went in and they wouldn't sell beer because it was 11:45 regardless of state law being til 11:59. So I had to hightail it out of there to get to a gas station before 12 because they refused to sell due to store policy. Makes absolutely no sense. Staff is pretty friendly. Usually you can find self checkout but sadly there are never enough lines open and human communication is becoming a thing of the past because of it. Often times they will run out of paper bags. They do not offer reusable bags for purchase. Anyway, it's okay, far from my favorite kroger but it is open 6am-12mid and close to where I live so I'll probably go there often regardless of how I feel. read more

It is such a disappointment to have: (1) ice cream that has obviously been melted, then refrozen; (2) sale tags on shelves that have expired; (3) no shopping carts available in the vestibule; and (4) so many pallets of goods waiting for restock in the aisles. When shopping I prefer to go to the Kroger marketplace but this fills the bill when I need something quick or don't want to drive too far. The difference of this store is the people. Every time I have been there and checked out the Cashiers have been very down to earth and helpful. There are always teens or others to bag your groceries. Recently I was there and bought some red potatoes and the cashier noticed there were a few bad ones in the bag and told me to get another bag when I left. The produce and meet selection might now be as wide and varied as other Kroger's but the customer service I have had there has been great. read more

Kroger is my favorite place to go grocery shopping. I was a little apprehensive to try a different Kroger after getting used to the new one on Midlothian Tnpk, but this Kroger is a great alternative. I actually like the layout of the Chester Kroger better, it is less confusing and the aisles aren't broken up like at the Midlothian one. The staff is friendly and attentive. I am always able to find what I am looking for and they are rarely out of items that I need. They have great sale prices and I end up saving more money at Kroger than I am other grocery stores. Not only do they take up the best parking places so the employees don't have to walk very far for click list...but they have the nerve to say that customers pay for those spaces so don't park there...the customers pay for the click list so employees bring the food out...they don't NEED to park close to the store. I was a first timer on pick-up due to the COVID 19 impact on our family. I was disappointed that my husband waited more than 25 minutes to be recognized for his delivery considering the order was placed around 3:30 that afternoon. If a service is provided then the store should prepare its employees to handle the situation. This is the WORST Kroger I have ever been to. The "manager" was extremely rude. I needed a Mart Kart because I felt under the weather, my associates with me grabbed one also. The lady racially profiled us and threatened to call security because she felt that we were using the carts unlawfully and trying to destroy the store. She grabbed my friend by the arm and said she was calling security. I've never experienced this before, it is 2019 and I've never experienced this in my 20 years of living. Had a cashier snatch a bottle of wine from my husbands arms the other night due to them stoping the sale of alcohol 15 minutes before midnight, which we didn't know of. Completely shocked at how she entered the situation. Maybe she had a bad evening, didn't start an argument or fight, just utterly shocked. Also when In self check out, the ladies act as if you're trying to steal things and follow you out the door /stand up your ass while ringing up. I like the wide selection of organic foods they have. It's usually clean and well stocked. Staff are friendly and don't mind helping take your groceries to the car for you. I have had to double check prices though. If there are 2 prices on your package, make sure the correct bar code is scanned. read more
