Lidl in Chester is fantastic place to get most of your groceries at a reasonable price. Very often there are long lines at the one checkout that is open. Otherwise, it is an efficient place to go in, get what you want and get out, unlike the huge grocery big box stores that have everything under the sun. One area where this location could save money and possibly reduce prices is by eliminating the "Death Row for Plants". Plant materials are placed outside to dehydrate and fry in the sun. The plants placed inside are not cared for either. We have brought the situation to the attention of the store manager (repeatedly) personally and he wasn't at all interested. Other workers said that they were told not to water the plants. We notified Lidl corporate. They had the correct response, but no action has been taken. When the plants arrive, they are beautiful and high quality but it doesn't take long for the lack of water to destroy the plants and reduce their value to zero. The plant prices are not marked, so most people just walk past and the stock just sits there to cook in the sun. I deducted one star because of the lack of customer service and short staffing the checkouts. I don't think that the employees receive any customer service training. So the prices are obviously very good. But I have to wonder, is Lidl in Europe allowed to sell products that have bioengineered ingredients in them? Then why are they selling them here in the States? While many of their products are pretty good, it's disappointing to see bioengineered foods in their stores. read more

Not a bad little grocery store. The store seems to be clean every time I visit and items stay in order. The exterior of the building and parking lot are also normally well kept. Staff at this location are always helpful and full of niceties. I needed assistance locating an item that moved to a new location and received prompt service. The cashier radioed to an employee stocking shelves so that I could meet them to get the item. Thanks!! The produce, meat selections and miscellaneous non food items have a pretty good selection. I love this store. Moving from California, I had never heard of Lidl before until we stayed for a few months in Norfolk but after discovering the one down there, it became a requirement that we would never move anywhere that did not have one nearby. And this location was far better than the Norfolk store. They pretty much always have what I am looking for except for late on a Tuesday, right before the sales week ends which is kind of to be expected in a small store so I can't fault them. The quality of pretty much everything Lidl makes is great, definitely as good as the twice-as-expensive name brand and some things we actually like way more. This European grocery store and its major competitor, Aldi, boast high quality and low pricing as their mantra. While the store carries a limited amount of "name brands", it focuses on offering carefully selected ones to match the quality of their own "private label" which represents about 90% of items on the stores shelves. The stores layout is simple and you are greeted by their fruit and vegetable section immediatly upon entering. Lidl states they get their produce from local farms and regional supply sources...nice! Several sections..particularly the cheese meat/seafood section was heavy on a multitude of offerings..very nice! I was also pleasantly surprised to see a huge wine section with multiple vinyards represented..a score! One thing I was not a fan of and which seemed out of place were the aisles that contained non food items, from small appliances and toys to power tools and gardening supplies...just weird for a grocer to carry. My biggest disappointment was Lidl's "bring your own bag" policy where you either bring your own bags or you are forced to buy them to package your purchased items..really?! So while I won't be doing all of my grocery shopping at Lidl, it is a great option for picking up a few quality things at a low price. read more

I noticed that all customers were wearing masks, including myself. That was a good sign. Then two women pompously walked in the store without their masks on, just chatting away. So I asked the assistant store manager (older white man) if they require customers to wear masks and he said "yes". I told him that two women were at the front of the store without masks on. The asst. store manager said "thanks for letting me know. You know, I can't tell them to leave the store." My question is so why do state that your store "requires masks" if you cannot enforce that policy? Sounds like a weak policy that doesn't protect all the other customers from potentially being exposed to COVID...because of the store manager's inconvenience of telling two women to just wear a mask!! I will take my business to other stores that protect their customers. read more

I really enjoyed my shopping experience here at Lidl. This location in Chester is nice because it's not as congested the other grocery stores on Iron bridge. Good prices always draw people in, but that isn't the only thing that made me want to check them out. I shop at Aldi so I had to see what their competition was like. Safe to say Lidl has Aldi beat when it comes to selection. Lidl is a much larger store. I loved how much they had to offer from the minute I walked in. What separates them is a bakery, lots of fruits and vegetables to choose from, large beer/wine selection, and they also have a larger section of miscellaneous items. Another key difference between Aldi and Lidl is that Lidl is more of a one stop shop I basically found everything that I came in here for. Here the cart situation is more traditional. No quarter required. I recommend bringing your own reusable bags although Lidl has bags for a very cheap price. There is an ample amount of parking as well. The staff was friendly and seemed attentive to meet customers needs. Safe to say that I will be coming back and this might become my new go to grocery store! read more

A decent Lidl in a convenient location. It's not a luxury store but that's not the point of any discount supermarket - for what it is this location is decent in design, offerings, and service. I would recommend coming earlier in the day; my visit was an hour before closing and while the produce I chose was in good condition, it had been picked over and there wasn't much of some things left for for the evening. They have a nice wine selection although I only found 2 sweet wines out of all the shelves. Good selection of organic and healthy selections. read more

Did a quick walk through today. It's an Aldi's on steroids! Better baked goods, larger fruit and veggie section. Mix of known and unknown products. Trying to be too much in too little space. Surprising given the outside feel of the place. I'll update once I've been able to spend some more time in the place. For now, not all I was hoping for! read more

We have grown to love lidl! It is bright and clean and laid out well. Although they do not carry as much as other bigger supermarkets, they have won us over with the prices and quality. First the bakery and produces items are fresh and the prices are fantastic - significantly cheaper than the competition. We have eased into trying other things in the store and so far we have loved everything. We find ourselves doing more and more of our shopping here each week. Keep up the good work! read more

Went to this location today. I love the fact that most of their items are organic. It is a more upscale "Aldi", but I don't care for Aldi- this location was full of great selection of European style cheeses, healthy selection or fruits and veggies and a bakery and wines. To me it's situated between an Aldi and a Trader Joe's- prices are great- got a monster eggplant for .49 cents some Yellow Tuna steaks some cod and some of their organic canned products and veggies. All in all I spent only $20 and got 2 bags of healthy food choices that would have cost me about $40+ at grocery store. It has a European feel to the place. Super clean and the staff was very helpful and friendly. Will be going again. Bring your own bags or buy your bags while you're there. read more

Went to the Iron Bridge store with a list of four item from their weekly ad. 9:30 am on a Saturday morning and they only had one item in stock! Put the perishables I had in my cart back and walked out. This is not the first time they have baited me in with good prices only to be sold out by the weekend. Either the Chesterfield stores are managed by amateurs , or this is a Lidl policy to lure customers in the store without delivering on the their advertising. Done with them. read more

Was nice when it first opened but since grand opening this place has been poorly run. Half the lights in aisles aren't on or they don't work so it's hard to see and read labels, why have your customers shop in the dark? It's like this at every visit There's never enough cashiers, there is ALWAYS something being moved around and left out on the floors by stockers or management moving things, prices are misleading and have to be price checked once checked out. I get annoyed everytime I go in one by the above mentioned but this was the last time I'll step foot in a lidl. Produce left on the FLOOR, not just packing material and items like usual but actual produce. Also the zucchini that were there had nicks all over them and a little bit of white fuzz on the areas. It wasn't "fresh" as advertised. After seeing the produce on the floor and left there the whole time I browsed, I'm done at this place. Staff with poor integrity. My daughter dropped her sunglasses while we were shopping. I called the corporate number twenty minutes after leaving the store at which time the representative spoke with a staff member at the store. According to the representative the glasses were found and placed in a secure place for us to pick up the following day. When I went back to obtain them, the staff said they were unaware of any glasses and they no longer had them, leading me to believe one of the staff from the day before walked home with the glasses. Poor integrity of the staff. I will no longer be shopping at this store and am very disappointed in the company's response to my complaint. read more

ZERO stars, actually. This store in Chesterfield, is probably the worst. I don't even go inside anymore. BEWARE: Cheaters and liars: their prices are not what they show on the signs: every single time I go there, 2 items or 10 - I have to check every item for incorrect pricing. Managers and cashiers can be rude - depending who is there. They don't know what they are doing and blame corporate office. I am a customer, I don't care who's fault it is! Refunding their 'cheating prices:' They give you exactly the difference that was charged - not a penny more. So, you need to go back in line and wait your turn (in case you did not catch it at the register) - they take their time checking tags, etc. - come back with an attitude and do not follow other markets policies (i.e. Kroger's) - where they give you that wrong priced item for free! I mentioned to a Lidl manager and she said: "We don't do that." - So, I gave all the wrong priced items back: there were 4 of them!! So, check your receipt before walking away from the register! Once it took them 35 min. to get all resolved and pay me the 'cheating' difference! Employees are not knowledgeable and rude. Most the time, they don't believe you said price was incorrect and leave their place to go check it themselves. Grocery: old and mushy! Breads: close to expiring. Quality of items: subpar. I paid $1.09 (which rang as $1.29!!) for a loaf of cheap, no brand name sliced bread. Same bread elsewhere would have been $.89! Only reason I stop by there once or twice a YEAR, is because of some fresh bakery items - which by the way, are no longer fresh anymore! They say "must buy at least two for discounted price," but mostly, they don't have enough - and it can be 4 p.m. or 10 in the morning: old bread lying around the the day before. Dinner rolls and similar: they are all made by the same cheap recipe: they charge them more (because of the shapes!) - same crappy, cheap tasting dough (like the McDonald's buns, but drier!) I think McD's buns are even better! I have complained to local managers, and called customer services. Nothing has been done: this store is a shame to the real European Lidl! read more

Went back to Lidl today. Things have changed since grand opening. No more bags. Bring your own and bag yourself or pay 6 cents per paper bag. Returned Lidl coffee and Lidl French roast. Had little to no flavor. You get your money back if you have your receipt otherwise you get store credit. You can get a free replacement BUT you have to choose something from the same category and it must be Lidl brand. You get item for item not dollar value. Return two get two. Got tea $2.35 and pods $2.35. The pods tasted like water just like the whole bean coffee. The sealed Chia tea smells like cinnamon tea probably will just throw them away and not visit the store again. Deals are good but Lidl brand quality is SUBPAR. read more

I do most of my shopping here. They have all of the staples even if they don't have EVERYTHING. The prices are incredibly good. More than once I've picked up a weeks worth of groceries for 3 people and under $30. I love trying their brands as opposed to the well known ones and for less than half the price I prefer theirs most of the time. Chips are hit or miss in my opinion because I feel like they go stale right away but my boyfriend loves them all and a whole bag of chips is a snack for him so he may not have had the chance to notice that. The spicy hummus is awesome. Where else could you get a case of water for just over a dollar? Their sales are even more insane. I no longer have to clip coupons but they offer that on their app too! I've cut my grocery costs dramatically. My only complaint is the line takes a while because there is usually only one cashier but it's worth the wait and that's how they keep their costs so low. read more
