Hardy box of 16 pieces of dark meat chicken.
    Theresa R.

Thanks to other Yelpers, we tried this little hole in the wall, mini-mart, in Richmond - for better than the chain store, tender fried chicken!! I thought I was at the wrong place, to be honest. Once inside, they have a real deal set up, no-nonsense counter, and a sweet order taker who will crack a smile if you smile at her, taking your order quickly and efficiently. You then walk over to the mini-mart cashier, 4 feet to the left, and pay for your order and whatever other mini-mart grocery must have. I then waited for my order while watching how much perfectly, hot and fried, chicken was being produced behind the counter case. It didn't have time to sit under a heat lamp, it went into the container to my box within minutes. We ate a hardy meal of chicken, mash potatoes and gravy, Mac n cheese, red beans and rice, Cole slaw, fries and shrimp. Admittedly, the sides were just ok, in comparison. The flavors were there, but they were packaged beforehand and sat, so they didn't taste as fresh. You know that chicken was still crunchy and delicious eaten cold, the next day! Wow.

Being from New Orleans, gotta love seeing some Louisiana-based fried chicken joints in the Bay Area. What's extra awesome about this spot is that they use halal chicken, which is great for those with dietary restrictions. I typically get a mixed bucket of chicken, with some biscuits, fries, and Mac n cheese. I have had their tenders and boneless wings as well, but you have to get their chicken, biscuits, and fries. You can ask them to sub drumsticks for wings if you'd like as well. They have a lot of sauce options, so ask them before you leave so you get what you need. It's at a gas station so parking is easy. Check them out!

The best chicken around. This location is always fresh and the chicken is always seasoned properly. I will drive further to come to this location. The chicken is delicious. Don't let the fact that it is inside a gas station deter you.

look at that cajun sauce inside! SO GOOD

We got our food between 10-15 minutes. French fries were so good and crunchy. We got the original spicy chicken, soy garlic and the chicken mayo rice plate with Galbi. My husband was honestly let down with the original spicy chicken. It had a nice crunch but lacked flavor and it wasn't very spicy. The soy garlic chicken, again had a nice crunch, but there was barely any flavor/sauce on them. The chicken Mayo rice plate what is the total opposite, if anything we felt like it had too much sauce/mayo. The portions are nice tho, and the chicken is cooked nicely - just lacked flavor. I'd rate the food itself a 3, and adding another star for the service.

A true hidden gem right at the bottom of Solano Ave in Albany!…read more I'm embarrassed to admit that Picnic has been around for about 5 years in the east bay and I've just tried it for the first time this week. But I'm so glad I was finally introduced to it. The staff greet you promptly when you enter and you can even watch them work effortlessly together in the open prep-station behind the counter. They have a gorgeous display of deli items, wines, cheeses, cold sides, and even some cute candles & house made croutons. They've got everything you would need for an elevated picnic or even a barbecue with the family. They have an intriguing selection of house made sausages-- the Chicken Tikka Masala sausage caught my eye and I can't wait to try it. They also sell whole smoked quail that are seasoned heavily yet each bite has just the right amount of smokiness, spices, and salt. Their hot food items and sandwiches are perfect for a quick lunch during your break from work or on your way home. There are also a few counter seats if you want to enjoy your meal there. So far I've tried the smoked quail, the Muffaletta sandwich, and their green lentil soup with chicken + veg. The sandwich was filled to the brim and each bite was a flavor bomb. The lentil soup was very comforting & paired well with the smoked quail. I'm looking forward to trying everything they have to offer.

After trying my first Dave's in Pinole, this was my 2nd and had the same experience: consistent. This one is in El Cerrito Plaza Shopping Center by the BART station. I also got a side of Kale Slaw ($4.59) and added a large Crispy Fried Pickles ($7.99). Mind you, this was a snack, so the sliders were the perfect size. One for me and one for the wifey and we shared the rest. The chicken is crispy on the outside but was simultaneously moist and tender inside. The heat level is basically how many (or how little) they sprinkled on the spice powder. The side of Kale Slaw provided a nice buffer to cut out the saltiness as it's a nice balance of crispy, fresh veggies with a sweet and tangy flavor. I also loved the side of pickles that came with the # 2. They're just plain pickles, and they were definitely better than the Crispy Fried Pickles (skip in my opinion). These were overly seasoned and salty to my liking. I ended up removing the breading just to get to the pickles inside. I also found the price to be too steep to justify the price and quantity that came with it. Overall, it's a solid sandwich that makes chicken right. Better than KFC, but not Popeye's and Jollibee.

Chicken size is huge so you'll definitely feel a little full halfway. Every time I've ordered here which is more than a dozen times, their sando has always been consistent in quality and taste. Their house sauce is hella good too especially with the fries. Their fries aren't as consistent on the crispy side so I always request for it to be well done. Sometimes they do it and don't with the request. I do wish that there's a little bit more slaw to balance the spices and oils. I know some folks like their fries soggy and I don't get it but wish it was consistently crispy too. Chicken & Waffles is also a good option too if you're in the craving for it.
