My mom loves the chicken marsala, tortellini pasta, rice pilaf, roast beef and all the yummy sides. Wow!!! Always so consistent, elegantly prepared down to the table covers and keeping the food fresh and hot in the warmers. The food was sooooo good, so impressed and the guests loved it! All of the other caterers on the list at Sunset View in El Cerrito only provided drop-off where we would have to set up, clean up, provide drinks, desserts, utensils, plates, etc. This was not something I wanted to do or have my family and friends do at a funeral. I wanted full service. The presentation was beautiful, I wish I had taken photos to include in the review. And everything was absolutely delicious. Ernesto and his staff put out take out boxes where people could take extras home. I am happy that the leftovers were not thrown out, Ernesto donates them to a homeless shelter. From the moment Frankie and I spoke, the entire process was easy and stress-free. They were great to work with, the setup and breakdown were seamless, and we had more than enough food to feed 120+ guests, with plenty left over. Having Rafael's handle the catering allowed me and my party helpers to focus on everything else instead of worrying about the food. The ordering process is simple, the team is efficient, portions are LARGE and they make it easy to modify items, pricing quotes, etc. Delivery and pick up has always ran smooth and the team will assist in packing up all leftovers because there definitely will be plenty. They have delivered to a hall as well as our home, they've set up in our backyard and inside our dining space. They stay communicative with delivery and pick up times, updates and ETAs of arrival. I'd have to say that by now, we have ordered every item on their menu - including the lechon, and we've gotten great feedback from family & friends. Rafael's has set the bar pretty high for quality of food and service. I recommend them to anyone that is planning to host a party and does not want the hassle of cooking, setting up, etc.

For my own event though, price mattered a lot, but I still wanted really good food. After reaching out to a bunch of places, I went with Havana because I had tried their food before and their pricing was very reasonable. We ordered full trays of adobo chicken, lechon roasted pork, crispy tofu, paella, sofrito rice, black beans, corn, poblano mac and cheese, and plantains. I did bring in one dish from another restaurant, Jamaican oxtail, just because I know my guests are big foodies. The biggest hits from Havana were definitely the poblano mac and cheese, lechon, and the paella. Honestly, the mac and cheese was the standout. Everyone kept going back for it and I wish I had ordered an extra tray. What really stood out to me though was the delivery experience. The driver called me ahead of time, brought everything in, and set it all up. He opened the trays with gloves, added sauces, arranged everything nicely, and even put out utensils and labels. I've had plenty of catering deliveries before and this was easily one of the best. He was just genuinely kind and went above and beyond, and it made a big difference.
