You know, growing up in da 808 is truly the melting pot...........so many different types of ethnicity that bring their customs, & great foods to da islands. I've had numerous types of pastries & donuts from the local island bakeries......... but da 808 also has it's unique goodies too! For instance, we have - malasadas, coco puffs, poi donuts, lilikoi chiffon cake, cream puffs, monju, sweet bread, mochi, and I can go on & on........... I've never heard of Krispy Kreme Donuts, until one of my childhood friends who just so happen to have transplanted himself on the mainland, had raved about this donut treat. The very first time I ate a Krispy Kreme was when I was in Las Vegas. My friend & I saw a big sign at a hotel while we were driving, and decided to stop by & try it. Needless to say, I wasn't too impressed with it, as it was probably sitting on the bakery shelf too long, and actually tasted terrible. Many years later, when Hawaii finally gets their very 1st Krispy Kreme Donut shop, my friend brought some back for me. This time when I ate it........is was FABULOUS!!!!! I'm thinking when Krispy Kreme's finally opened a shop in Hawaii, they open it on the island on Maui. I'm thinking, what about Oahu???? Most of the island's population is on Oahu, why did they open up a store on Maui? Go figure? Well, to get this special treat............you gotta jump on a plane & fly to Maui get it. I usually come here because my son looooooves donuts (ok I kinda like 'um too). I have only come here early in the morning before 6 am (they open at 5am) because I'm either picking up donuts on the way home from the gym or picking up donuts on the way to the airport to take home to O'ahu. In the earlier part of the am when I go, going inside has always been faster and the customer service is always great (whether it's drive thru or inside). When you go in, you get to see alllllll the delicious in one place and actually end up buying way more than you came in there for ;) All in all, you can't go wrong with Krispy Kreme. Had to go check it out on National donut day. Driving by KK a few times when heading to the airport, we finally stopped in. When we walked in the conveyor belt was empty, it was late afternoon. I guess no more fresh glazed donuts..no biggie. The line wasn't too bad and they were passing donuts out pretty fast. At first I was gonna get the original glazed donut. But when I got to the counter the sprinkle donut was calling me. It was sweet and melted in my mouth from every bite. I should have ordered a coffee with. The employees were quick and friendly. Best donuts I've ever had! Since we don't have a usual spot on Oahu, I'll always pick up a few boxes for family, friends and coworkers on my way back to Oahu. And Kahului airport hasn't given me any troubles. I prefer getting the donuts fresh from Krispy Kreme instead of the ones melted in those boxes people fundraise.. My family and I came in ordered donuts to fill up several boxes and we were out of there in a jiffy. They were well stocked and went through the line faster than Dunkin Donuts here, my gosh. Tried the coffee glazed (since it was a limited thing) and it was okay... nothing that great. On island for the day so figured I'd try this out since people always fundraising it on Oahu. Got the ice coffee and it was horrible. I wished I didn't order it cause it gave me a headache and that's all you need to start off your day. The facilities is clean and it's okay. During my last visit, someone took a wrong turn from the car rental going back to Kahului airport to pick up the family and I was like, let me get some doughnuts because we are already here! This place was much slower than I expected but it was later in the day, so that must have been why. While pulling up to this easy access location, I felt like a kid in a candy store. Walked in and there was no wait and I was able to order two dozen doughnuts really quick, it felt like I forgot something. This location showed how they make the doughnuts through a clear window and it was more simple than I thought. The ambiance was definitely old school and the inside was clean. Wish I had bought more being that I was taking this back to Oahu but I didn't want to carry too much. Had no problem bringing on and off the plane as well. This review is based solely on my experience on Monday, 7/20. Every time I come to visit Maui, my friends and I always make it a point to buy a dozen or so doughnuts to bring back to O'ahu since we have yet to get one on island. This just so happened to be the first time (and LAST time at this point) that I had to get 6 dozen for my family. On this very last visit, I nearly flipped my fricken' lid. We went to the store at about 16:30, and it wasn't too crowded inside. I noticed that no doughnuts were being made on the belt, so whatever was in the display & racks was left for the day. When it was my turn to order, I told the worker that I needed 5 dozen glazed -- and it was at that moment she pissed me off. Before I could even finish my sentence, she rolled her eyes, put the folded box back down, and walked away to look at the racks of how much doughnuts was left and started to make herself all hūhū by making loud remarks of "ahhh that's all of it already, no more, that's all, tell 'em no more already." All the other workers started to chuckle and congregate by the worker who was supposedly helping me, except for one Filipina who was still really nice to me. I made sure to tell the Filipina that I wasn't done ordering, so she took the rest of my order and had the original girl prepare it. I wish I saw Miss Sassypants' name tag so that I could put her on blast, but just know that she was a local sister, heavier set, and she must've been a lead or manager cause she didn't wear the same thing as the other workers. Only Krispy Kreme in the state. Smart people put the shop on the way to / from the airport, which is less than a mile away. Really in a hurry? There's a drive-through! They can pack your order in boxes for the plane so they don't get smushed and they they can pile the boxes of your golden rings of happiness in bags with handles. (Everyone at the airport is familiar with these bags.) Kids of all ages have fun watching the donut conveyor belt, when it's going. There are places to sit inside and outside. Plenty of room for wheelchairs, scooters, and walkers. Hard part is deciding just which kinds you want - lots to choose from. read more
