The outside patio is breezy and the lighting is perfect for pictures. There's a huge menu so even picky eaters will find something they'll like. What really stood out was the service. All the workers are kind and joyful. You can tell there's an appreciation for us as customers. The customer service here is exemplary And the rollerskating is cool to see! Since we don't have one of these on Oahu, it's kind of our go to when we land on Maui. We chose the drive through thinking it'll be quicker, but it wasn't. It was after dinner time, so we figured it would be quick. There was one car in front of us and we wondered what was taking so long. We were up next and it was the person taking our order. Got to try Sonic Drive In while in Maui and it was good to try something different. I ordered the chicken wrap & bacon cheese burger and both were good for fast food. I liked the wrap, it was just enough food & the flavor was good. The burger was small & simple & I was ok with that. I ordered on the drive in board and it was pretty easy. After about 15 minutes the food showed up & the server was very nice. I didn't want to eat in the car so they have a few chairs & tables you can sit at. We love a quick trip through the drive thru for a mango cream slush, I haven't had the chance to try their food over here yet but I'm sure it wouldn't disappoint seeing as they nailed our slushies! Easy to navigate to but if you do happen to miss the turn in, you need to make a full loop around to try again so just be on your guard. The building looks new and nice and we had no issues with the customer service or prices (especially for Hawaii). All in all, a good experience! Aloha, I'm a foodie by nature. I'm always looking for a good hot dog. I decided to stop at Sonic's while hearing to the airport in Maui. It's really close to the airport. Less than 2 miles. That's really convenient especially if you're looking for cheap eats. The airport food is outrageously expensive. I pulled into Sonic's. It sits in the Safeway shopping center lot. It's a nice size building with stairs leading up. Not sure why. I'm use to Sonics having plenty of car hop stalls for folks to order. This location only has 6 and 1 ADA car hop. There's a walk up with a few patio tables. They also have a dual lane DT for convenience as well. The prices are really good compared to other restaurants. You can feed a family well and not break the bank. Well Done I didn't eat my Cheese coney Dog until I got through CLEAR and it was still warm. I am a happy camper. Decided to get a treat and ordered the pickle fries and a milk as a snack while shopping on the other side. The fries are to die for, I just love "frickles"! There was a line and a staff member came out and brought my meal to me instead of waiting for the drive through window and took payment. Their new building is pretty nice. This was my first time going through the drive through. Which had double lanes to order from & even had a door next to the pickup window. So if you're order is ready before you get to the window. Someone can bring your order to you & collect payment. Which is convenient when you're in the Safeway parking lot & want something quick for the ride home. My chocolate Oreo ice cream didn't even make it home. But I had help, ice cream bites for him & cookie ice cream bites for me. I also grew up loving pretzels, so I tend to order my childhood favorite fix every chance I get. Second time hear in the past two days! lol, see we don't have a sonic on Oahu so we went yesterday before going up to Haleakala and tonight after coming back from Hana! Food is good and service was great Wednesday morning but tonight sound like had a friend of someone in the stall next to us making outlandish orders and request, but was just irritating to have to listen to while waiting for our order. Girl then came out asked what we ordered and turned back and went back inside, my wife said the drink looked to be wrong, came out a second time order was correct but now no straws so we waited a little longer for straws and went about our way home to eat! Founded in 1953 in Shawnee, OK, the original name was Top Hat Drive-In, a root beer & soda stand that also sold hot dogs and hamburgers. Due to the "Top Hat Drive-In" name already trademarked, the name was changed to "Sonic" in 1959, which also paid homage to their slogan at the time, "Service With The Speed of Sound". I've eaten at Sonic years ago in Pennsylvania. Rumors swirled around 2018 of Sonic entering the Hawaii market but nothing came to fruition. Fast forward to 2023 and Hawaii finally has their first Sonic location on the island of Maui, located in the Hookele Shopping Center (where the new Safeway is) which opened on 2.20.23. MENU: Burgers, sandwiches, hot dog, chicken tenders & popcorn, limeades, shakes, sundaes, breakfast items. The Maui menu is limited but hopefully will expand to include their delicious-looking grilled cheese sammys I see on their commercials. ATMOSPHERE: Like all Sonics, there is no indoor seating, just outdoor seats and drive-up stalls. The Maui location has four oversized tables shaded by photovoltaic panels and six drive-up stalls with one reserved for the handicapped. In addition to the drive thru, there are also two "walk thru" menu boards located next to the outdoor seating area which services walk-up's (card payment only). Super convenient! FOOD: Sonic Cheeseburger Combo - $12.49 The standard burger is ¼ pound and comes loaded with lettuce, chunky cut onions, pickles, tomato, cheese and mayo. Taste-wise, it's reminiscent of a BK Whopper; not a great thing but not a bad one either. I chose tots as my side (fries are available) and unsweetened iced tea for a drink. Tots are tots; I should've tried their fries to compare to other chains. Oh well, next time. SERVICE: Gal taking orders over the speaker at the walk-up was friendly. You can see on the screen what you've ordered so mistakes should be lessened. We sat at the outdoor tables and food was delivered in about five minutes. TIP: No one is on rollerskates/blades here. Sonic is nostalgic for me. My go tos are always the limeades and slushies! Love their coney dogs, tots and texas toast breakfast sandwiches. For our first Maui visit, I ordered combo #3- Super Sonic Double Bacon Cheeseburger with tots and a cranberry limeade, my husband got combo #4- Teriyaki Cheeseburger with tots and a nerd slushie. Kids got the quarter pound double Cheeseburger from the value menu and we shared mozzarella sticks and nacho fries (they forgot the chili that would've made it chili cheese fries). Burgers were good, tots were on point and my cranberry limeade hit the spot. Make sure to request for dipping sauces to go with your meal. Combos were a little pricey but would happily order from the everyday value menu, share sides and get the limeades, slushies or milkshakes. Sonic brings me back to my college days of stopping through for a late night snack after the club or hanging out with co-workers after work. It's not the best fast food I've ever had, but I'm happy they're here on Maui and looking forward to regularly picking up the slushies, limeades and milk shakes. Since a kid, I always liked coming to Sonic's to see the servers on the skates, such an American staple. But Sonic Maui has added their local twist to their menu, specifically with their teriyaki burger, exclusive to their location only! The teriyaki sauce has a little bite to it, making it delicious. Their new smash burger, was filling and satisfying. It has two signature thin patties and double cheese. I also tried the mozzarella sticks and a salted pretzel stick, two of their popular apps. The pretzel was so buttery. For drinks I enjoyed a strawberry limeade that has real fruit and the strawberry slushy. I ended my meal with a creamy m&m milk shake. The staff was so friendly, welcoming and very accommodating. The inside was spacious and modern. I enjoyed my meal outside on their outdoor patio. Food is good! The disappointment with this location is that they have a limited menu in comparison to other locations and rarely serve the special releases such as the current "pickle menu" items. It's a bummer. The biggest let down is this location does not allow use of the sonic mobile app for ordering or accumulation of points for rewards. Its a personal preference for me but not being able to order on the app a head of time stops me from visiting because I prefer that over ordering at the speaker. read more

I haven't had Sonic since being on the mainland and missed it so much, I was too excited to visit Maui and be able to have it again!! We pulled into the stalls with the big screens to order from and decided from the options and placed our order through the intercom system and paid at the machine! Super easy and user friendly. I was a little hesitant when we pulled up based on a lot of the reviews I read about the service and wait here but was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was!! We got our food and everything was exactly the same as the mainland, it was so satisfying and perfect for a quick lunch during my day trip. They didn't have as large of a menu as most Sonic's on the mainland but that was sort of expected. We ordered a chili dog, popcorn chicken, tater tots, soft pretzels, and our favorite drink, the cherry limeade slushie. The slushie flavors are so good but this one is my favorite!! There's a huge chunk of lime at the bottom! The drinks can be very sweet though, so I sort of let mine sit for a bit to water down hehe. We came back later in the evening to get some foods and drinks to bring back home with us on our flight and our experience was slightly different.
