After several years, I finally returned to Patticakes, now located further down lower Main Street. Their banana cake remains the best on the island, and I'm still a fan of the guava strawberry cake. The shortbread cookies were outstanding--deliciously buttery and melted in my mouth. Melissa, the manager, was both professional and very knowledgeable. When you enter the shop, you'll find yourself right by the kitchen, surrounded by an enticing selection of cookies, banana cakes, and other treats. This bakery is amazing. We would buy banana bread from the ABC store each time on the island and I noticed the label and bakery name so I googled it. Found out where they were located and called to see if I could pass by and get some. They are friendly and their stuff is always fresh. Oh my gosh talk about hole in the wall. I literally drive by every day for the past 4-5 years and in all my life I never noticed it. I've had their yummy treats bought from other stores but never been to the actual bakery. Sad they didn't have my favorite Lilikoi or lemon bars but the cheesecake was a new one for me that was yummy. I recommend calling ahead to make sure they have what you need otherwise you can plan ahead to visit other locations their products are at. Don't forget to try the snowball cookies. They have a $20 minimum for credit card purchases so bring cash if you're not planning on spending too much. I feel like they should do a little face lift to the outside, I bet more people would come in! They have pretty good hours but you can't really see the open sign even with it lit. read more

I found Patticakes Bakery online while I was looking for something local to send to my mom. The day before my mom's birthday I was unable to get through due to some phone issue. There was a constant busy signal. Luckily my brother lives near the bakery and we drove there so I could talk to someone. They took my name and number and said they would give the information to the owner, Patti. With the two hour time difference it was getting late for me. The next morning Patti called me about my gift basket order for my mom. She completed my order and we also got side tracked talking about other things. Patti was very sweet, helpful and accommodating. I talked to my family after it was delivered and they said everything in the gift basket was moist and delicious! This is probably not the most convenient location to get to, but there has never been a year where I skip coming here. I usually stay in Kaanapali side of the island, but I always call first (just in case they have different hours, I think they're closed on Sundays) and make my way here. Love love love all their stuff. My favorites include their shortbread cookies, snowball cookies, chocolate dipped mac nut shortbread cookies, lemon bars and banana breads. My son won't eat any other banana bread in the island except the one from here. I recently found out you can find their breads at ABC markets (can confirm they have some at the ABC store at the lower Honoapiilani Rd location). If you're going to be near Kahului to run errands, swing by Wailuku and grab some goodies! You won't regret it. read more

SNOW BALL MACADAMIA COOKIES!!! I've been going to Maui for several years now and every time we go, we absolutely have to have these -- not just while we're there on vacation but also to take home to our friends and family. The old fashioned souvenirs of chocolate covered macadamia nuts are just that...old. People can easily get those on the mainland anyway! We first discovered these cookies at a Long's Drugs (I believe most, if not all, Long's on the island carries them) but we went searching for the bakery located in Wailuku to find out who the cookie gods are that makes these amazing cookies. The bakery is a modest warehouse type facility (not pretentious at all as you'd find with LA bakeries) but you will be hypnotized by the aroma of the huge assortment of decadent goodies! I've tried various breads and they're great but my favorite remains the Snowball Cookies! Y-U-M! Before I brought these home to share -- because it really is difficult to share these -- my sister had asked me pick her up some of the popular shortbread cookies from Honolulu Cookie Co. that she wanted for herself and to give away as holiday gifts. A couple of hundred dollars later, I had her taste Patticakes' snowball cookies. She went psycho after she realized how way better these snowball cookies are and for a small fraction of what she pays for the Honolulu Cookie stuff. She never turned back. Patticakes will also ship any of their cookies and breads to the mainland so in case you can't make it to paradise in the meantime, you can still have a bit of ono heaven thanks to the U.S. postal service. These cookies freeze well so buy a bunch. I take 2-3 cookies out at a time (more if i had a really bad day) and they thaw in less than 5-minutes. Sometimes, I can't wait and eat it frozen...still ono! I'm about to order some for my sis' bday coming up and for me! My sister now lives in Germany and we meet every year in Vegas. I always bring her omiyage from home. Last year along with all the local treats I brought her Patticakes snowball cookies. So we are meeting again soon (in a week). I asked her what does she want from Hawaii. Usually it's li hing moi stuff, cuttlefish, arare....the usual. This time she say's the ONLY request she has is Patticakes snowball cookies. She said she ate the whole (13 oz) bag by herself. She had saved them to have a few on the plane back to Germany but ended up eating them all...including the powder sugar at the bottom of the package. She said she even considered licking the bag but stopped herself as she was in flight. In her defense of eating the whole bag...she traveled 18 hours to get home. I started looking online for the cookies and found out that I could order by phone and they will ship to me. I'm so happy to be able to get these delivered to Oahu. Prior to finding out they would ship, I considered flying to Maui to visit a friend for lunch and going to the bakery and flying back the same night. These are the best coffee loaf cakes I've ever had. I was on a Road to Hana tour and the tour company served them. Forgive the m-word, but they really are super moist. The ABC stores carry their cakes. The bakery is wholesale only (for the tour companies and retailers), but we were told when we visited the bakery that they sell to the public after 6 pm what was not sold to businesses that day. Some of the best treats on Maui! The owner, Patti, is the sweetest lady and very friendly. Over the past few years, my visits to her bakery have become more frequent. Not good for my figure!!! When it comes to the cookies, I'm partial to the shortbread and Patticakes has a large variety! Patti actually started baking fruity pebbles shortbread cookies, which easily became my favorite! I wish it were a regular thing on the inventory, but you can special order it. She usually asks for 48 hours notice, but better to give her more time because she's super busy! Did you know Patticakes sells homemade pies too? I walked in one day and saw a bunch of pies, which was fresh out of the oven. Patti let me try the sweet potato pie, which was super ono, but I came for the cookies, so I didn't buy one. The pies can be special ordered too, as well as the awesome mango or banana mochi bread! Yup, you heard right, mochi bread! This too is not on the regular inventory and needs to be special ordered, and give her more than 48 hours notice for these! I took some to my parents and they loved everything about it! The taste is not that sweet, but had a mochi consistency with a bread taste. You gotta try it! From brownies to snowball cookies to all kind of fruit breads, all kind cookies and pies, I wish they had a regular retail place where the hours are set in stone and all the items are available. Maui friends -- you have been holding out on me!!! Macadamia Nut Snow Balls -- How have I never heard of these delightful bites of heaven before?! A coworker brought some into the office and it is taking all of my restraint to keep from devouring the whole box. When I first saw the label with "macadamia nut" I thought it would be hard and nutty, but it's not! It's perfectly light and crispy. The white powder melts in your mouth like snow. Mmmmmm.... Macadamia Nut Snow Ball Cookies! I received these little gems from my neighbor as a Christmas gift. I just assumed that it was just another type of cookie until I opened the container and tried one. That was it! I'm hooked! I searched all over Oahu to find out nobody carries them and they only bring them over at a certain show or festival. The woman who greeted us was so very kind, thank you! When we drove up to her shop, I wasn't sure I had the right place! It doesn't look like any bakery that I've been to. She had a few samples that were on the rack, & then she brought out a couple of the mochi cookies & we both said, that's the one! Plus a slice of the strawberry/guava bread. As we were waiting to be rung up, I noticed the sign listing her items, so I asked if she had any lemon bars, oh yeah!! And throw in a lilikoi bar as well, please! We ate the lilikoi bar tonight & it was yummmmmm! The crust was really good & the lilikoi was nice w/a bit of tang. Looking forward to having the lemon bar tomorrow. This year our tummy's did somersaults when we thought they'd closed (their website was down and they weren't being stocked at the old Star Market). It time like these where trying something new pays off for all the other times new things do not. On the way to Hana/7 sacred pools I needed my caffeine fix and my husband needed a sugar fix. We stopped by a random shop that fit about 4 people including the people working there and we tried the Macadamia Nut Snow Ball cookies. OMG....we spent the next few days hunting down where we can get them and even drove 45 min out of the way to find the place they make them.
