Ok I was going to give this place a much lower star value because at around 1:15 they were already out of the tofu and the roasted vegetables (and I had prepaid / preordered the vegan kebab on ClassPass), but it was actually still pretty good. They gave me two premium sides instead (cauliflower and hummus) which weren't quite as satisfying as the tofu would have been but still quite good. I'll say this place is still worth a try if you're vegetarian/vegan, but they seem to have inventory issues so try to come early in the day (11-12:30pm) to make sure they're in stock and the food is fresh and available. read more

Döner Kebab serves up a slightly more elevated version of a late night drunk food from the Turkish immigrants found in Berlin and a few other parts of Germany. The food here is decent being better than the Hugh location (which I'm surprised I gave a four but whatever) but is still just fine. The veggies are good quality and the highlight which is odd for this type of sandwich. The bread is an alright take on a pide and the beef which is $2 more is fine though not what I expected in terms of texture and I would go with chicken if I was to go back here. The hot sauce has a good kick reminding me a bit of harissa while the white sauce was pretty standard. This is a decent place within the Dekalb Market but there's better in the surrounding neighborhoods which has better Mediterranean and Middle Eastern options not too far away. Still a good enough option and the portion is quite nice especially for a pricey market like this one. read more

I found this spot on ClassPass' Food & Drink section and decided to give it a try. I was initially having so much trouble finding this food stall, but Kotti Döner Kebab is located right by the escalators in the basement of Dekalb Market Hall. I ordered their Roasted Chicken Rice Pilaf Bowl and waited ~7 min. I was starving, so this bowl SLAPPED. The chicken was tender and their onion-tomato-cucumber-dill tzatziki topping was SO YUMMY with every bite. The service is a bit slower, but it's really only because there's only a few people running a pretty popular stall. Their prices are standard food hall prices, aka not cheap. Had I paid for this bowl instead of ordering through ClassPass (7 credits), this would've came out to $15.25 before tax! I fell in love with donor kebobs when I was studying in Berlin, so I was so excited when Kotti opened locations all over NY. However, this place has gone downhill in portion size and food hygiene. The donor sandwich is 95% salad and 5% meat. There were three people working. One person was at the register, a second person was at the meat station, and the third was at the salad station. The woman working the meat station was all over the place. It wasn't very busy when I was there, but she was speeding through everything to get orders out. Instead of handing over my sandwich to the woman at the salad station, she decided to make my sandwich so quickly that at one point some of the salad fell out of my sandwich on the floor. However, even though I pointed this out to her, what really pissed me off is she took her gloved hand, put it in the blue cheese container and put some cheese on my sandwich. She didn't use the tong! When I pointed this out to her, she stared at me for a few seconds and replied I'm wearing gloves. Wearing gloves DOES NOT guarantee that the gloves are clean! There is a reason you have tongs for each container! She was wearing the gloves while touching equipment while cooking the meat, she used her glove to open the rice cooker, she touched the aluminum foil, and she basically contaminated the glove! It's disgusting to use your hand! I don't care if you are wearing a glove! There is a reason why people get sick from eating food from fast food establishments because the employees do not care about food hygiene! I don't even want to know what happens when people are not looking at how their food is being prepared. Wearing gloves is not a guarantee that your gloves are clean! I am the one who is eating the sandwich! I am the one who will get sick because your employee doesn't understand how quickly you can contaminate food. If her gloves are so clean, she should just use her hands to grab rice out of the rice cooker! The woman who was at the station before was doing a very good job before the other woman took over. It's obvious she doesn't care because she's young and she's working at a fast food place, but she can still do her job in a professional manner. Wandered in for a quick lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the space, the speed, and of course, the food. I ordered a half rice and half salad chicken bowl with all the fixings (white sauce, hot sauce, pickled veg) and waited in the store to run it back to the office. The chicken was juicy and tender, though a little sweeter than I expected. The white sauce didn't have that classic German or Turkish twang of garlic but it was creamy and smooth and cooled the mild spice from the red sauce nicely. Topped off with a cola, my entire meal was reasonable priced, delicious, and fast. The entire meal came out in less than 5 minutes. So why 5 stars to start? Well, I've been eating at kotti since they opened up a spot in dekalb market hall but I will say that this smaller delivery based location is faster and slightly more delicious. The restaurant is just one of the 35 outlets in the food court, nothing much to say about the atmosphere/ambiance. The service was quick but the staff didn't seem that friendly to me. However, this isn't a shady imbiss you would find on some of the streets in Kreuzberg. While those establishments might display vegetables and meats of questionable quality, Kotti offers up a fresh salad in between a bread that's fluffier than a traditional pita bread. The "free of hormone and antibiotics. 100% vegetarian grain-fed, GMO-free, halal, certified humane raised, free-roaming" chicken was soft and tasty just like the sauce that covered it, and this is reflected in the price. The product is unquestionably delicious and enjoyable. It's the döner that is clean cut, wears a suit and works in finance. What it isn't is the late night, cheap and grease filled meal that comes to mind when you think of a döner. Craving a döner? With a reasonable price? Don't count on it here. read more

I get that they're just following the rules established by the owner but it's definitely a put off when they act this way, especially after you paid. The namesake Doner Kebab sandwich is a quarter of a fluffy Turkish pide bread (my literal favorite bread), with roast chicken, a sweet/smoky/spicy sauce, cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes, feta, cilantro. The sandwich is BIG - I struggle to finish it on my own for lunch. If I feel generous I do halfsies with the hubbypants. But its the perfect, if messy, sandwich. The warm and crunchy bread contrast the juicy meat and the crisp cool veggies. You could also do the wrap or the kebab taco, which are also tasty in their own right, but just pale in tastiness and intensity as the Doner Kebab. Service is usually very fast, price fair for the portion size and location, and the food is always fresh. Do not let your sandwich sit here and wait and get soggy, eat immediately! read more

Kept it simple with that in mind and ordered the beef Doner Kebab with a side rice and a slice of baklava for desert. What. A. Wait. Took about 35 minutes for the two sandwiches to come out which was rather upsetting as it much longer than anticipated. Well worth the wait though as I couldn't believe my eyes when it came out. These are HUGE sandwich's! Took up the entire to-go container and bulging at the corners. It was mildly overwhelming with all the extras and had it more like a salad. Rice was disappointing - bland, cold, and strong artificial flavor. Baklava was mushy but very tasty. Overall I'll say this was a unique experience. If Berlin/German style kebabs are your go to, this is the place. Just be prepared to wait awhile and make sure you come hungry! read more

It does taste recognizably like a doner kebab in Berlin but a few things could be improved. First, the ratio of ingredients is off and there's too much empty bread. But this isn't because they're stingy with fillings, it's because the amount of bread they give you is a lot. Cut out 30% of the bread and the ratio will be right. It will blow your mind. I also like getting the chicken salad and rice bowl, which is pretty healthy because it's packed with veggies. But the Döner Kebab is #1 on the menu, and #1 in my heart. It's the name of the stand for Pete's sake. It's their specialty, and wrapping up all the tasty items (just get everything) they have back there in Turkish pide...a crisp flatbread not too far off of focaccia...that's the move. Kotti Berliner Doner Kebab is one of my favorite spots at DeKalb Market, and I was happy to see on my most recent visit to the food hall that they had a weekday lunch special with discounted prices on the doner kebab, durum wrap, and salad. The lunch special wasn't exactly inexpensive, as the cheapest of the specials was $10.50, but most things in DeKalb Market are on the more expensive side. I opted for the $12 salad special instead of the doner kebab this time (although the focaccia-like bread that one comes with is great). The salad came with layers of salad mix, lettuce, onions, tomato and cucumber salad, cabbage, feta cheese, a yogurt-based white sauce, a harissa-based red sauce, and lots of chicken. I was impressed by the amount of chicken that was in the bowl, and it made the price tag a little easier to swallow. The chicken was excellent, very tender and marinated in lots of spices, the vegetables were fresh, and the whole salad worked well mixed together. I liked it so much that I might consider making the salad with an add-on of bread my regular order. read more
