it's annoying that I can't go here at the Fulton Mall location unless specific staff is there. I will watch them serve men quickly and then when its my turn, I'm a woman, they ignore me. It's happened multiple times and I'm tired of it. All of a sudden they can't see and don't think they should have anyone at the register. Only when a specific gentleman is there, I believe his name is Mohammed, is when I'm treated like I have value. Multiple people ordered what I ordered and I was the only one given a small tray versus the take out container. When I asked for a take out container the staff member gave it to me to put my food in and shrug as if he doesn't know how to put the food in the container. I didn't bother asking for a bag because you have to open it your send as you struggle to hold your food. Moritz is a nice spot to pass by in the Dekalb Food Market, where you want to grab a quick side to accompany a main course or you feel like settling down for a full meal. I ordered the loaded chicken fries with the intention of grabbing a sandwich of some sort in order to mix and match a little bit. It turns out that the loaded chicken fries are quite the attraction on their own. The fries themselves have a decent crunch and were nicely salted. The sauces also gave me the right balance of sweet and savory. Usually I wouldn't be too fond of ketchup when it comes to loaded fries, but they really made it work here. The chicken wasn't ideal for me: I was hoping for a bit more texture. But for what it was, it got the job done. Tastes great and goes well with the fries and sauces. There are a few options on the menu: twice cut fries, loaded fries with Berlin ketchup and sausage, truffle and Dutch with onions. Me, I'm a plain fry girl, thus, ordered the twice cut fries with the skin on and a very auspicious and daring sauce on the side: mayonnaise. I also ordered the schnitzel wrap with red cabbage and their aioli remoulade. First the fries: loved the skin on them, crisp and the best part: not greasy! They are pricey at $7 for a small order $14 for a large! ( tater sticker shock) The schnitzel was just okay and disappointing: I have dined on the most delicious schnitzel in Vienna and was always moist and fried to perfection. Here, the cabbage and sauce overpowers the chicken so I really couldn't taste it.. the next time I will just ask for the schnitzel with you guessed it mayonnaise,lettuce and tomato if they can allow for substitution. The space itself is small and the server was really preparing multiple meals solo.. I give him credit. The "Hot Dog" sounded good, listed on the website as a Toasted Pretzel Bun with Bratwurst or Wienerwurst, served over Sauerkraut with Bavarian Mustard and Curry-Ketchup. The in-person menu just said "German sausage with curry ketchup in pretzel bun." I was told I could only get a Wienerwurst. No worries, I was happy to get a German wurst in a pretzel bun, nothing special. Instead... The pretzel bun was flattened in a panini grill. It came topped with plenty of lettuce and red cabbage. No sauerkraut though. The sausage was laid on top and drizzled with curry ketchup and a couple other things. Again it tasted good but it was an odd way to serve it and wasn't m as described. A bit complicated to eat too. I also ordered the German cucumber salad, described on the website and in-person menu as a "lightly pickled fresh cucumber salad." I love German food so knew what this was...but instead I was served a side salad with cucumbers on it. I asked the worker about it and he said "I don't know that's how my manager told me to make it." I can't blame him for doing his job but it wasn't a pickled German cucumber salad. Again, it tasted good but it wasn't what was on the menu. My boyfriend ordered the loaded fries and there were no surprises there. Maybe I'll give it another try and just know to expect some surprises along the way. Mortiz is both reasonably price & pretty good as bar food, meaning the food goes well with beer, unfortunately I did not realized they served beer until after my meal was done. I enjoyed the truffle fries which were well seasoned, not overly greasy a nice balance of crisp to crunch & left a pleasant aftertaste. I also tried the German Dog which was a brat with kraut, lettuce, on a pretzel bun mixed with the sauces & stone mustard to give a good after taste.
