Got the Dutch fries. It had decently good flavor, just nothing wow about it. Fries were somewhat very dry and overly crispy/hollow yet also soft and soggy from the sauces at the same time. Overall not even close to the best I've had but for the area this will suffice for $8-$13 meal but not crazy fan of it. Not sure if their fries are better but it is on the pricier end as well

I was drawn in by the $5 fries on Friday deal.So I stopped in the staff was cordial and focused. Every plate was made to order even on my fries. They reminded me of the fries. You get at little car rental shops in Germany. The fries were tasty, not to greasy and they were fresh, cut from potatoes. I ended up taking a portion home, it was a lot of fries.

Tried this place for the second time and it's located in the food court on the lower level. Their fries are amazing and the pesto sauce hit the spot. I ordered the loaded fries with chicken and the fries were so flavorful and seasoned. The chicken slices looked different from the picture but was still good. However, they were a cut in thin strips and not what I expected but the flavor was there! Such a great snack

Order truffle fries while I was walking around the Dekalb market and needed a side for my other foods. Honestly, they were fine. Not bad, not great, but did the job. Service wasn't particularly friendly, price was a litttttle high. It's hard to say I'd go back when there are a lot of stronger options within the market that I prefer over Moritz.

My husband and I were in the mood for something salty so we went for the fries. This was $13. We felt like they could have added more and filled up the container. It was good but I don't feel like it was worth $13.

signature fries and 3 piece chicken tenders

i got two things: happy hour signature fries, and the 3 piece chicken tenders. fries were normal! not bad for 5$, esp with how delicious the in-house sauces are. would buy again. as for the tenders...it felt like i was being pranked. they are each the size of maybe 2.5 chick fil a nuggets... might as well make nuggets at that point. not worth 8$ at all!! would pay 4-5$... i liked the spices but otherwise... :( the employees seemed a bit aloof and like they didn't know the menu. i had to remind them it was happy hour for the discounted fries. messed up on my sauce count, but i went back and got what was missing. not worth it unless the prices go down a bit.. taste wise it's pretty good though!

Got another chance to try Moritz, this time they did have the brats. I ordered them as curry wurst with fries. Interestingly, they cut the brats into thin slices, grill them rather thoroughly and mix them with the fries before drizzling just a bit of sauce over everything. It tasted very good, but not what I would call authentic German curry wurst.

The food was ok, to say the least. The fries were cold and the sausage tasted like road kill. My waiter was extremely rude and obnoxious rushing my order. The whole atmosphere around this place smelled of bad maners and food poisoning.

The regular fries were just okay. It comes with a lot so it's great item to share with a group but there's nothing special about the fries. They're an average potatoes. The dipping sauces do help make it but not sauces are good. I don't remember what sauces I ordered the green one was really good compared to the mustard sauce. Nothing really unique about the fries.

Truffle fries well done. The way I like them!

It's Friday 7/26/24. I'm back at Moritz after forwarding my 7/04 complaint to management. They apologized for the former incident that left a bad taste in my mouth. Having a much better experience, which is the usual for here excluding that one time. Definitely enjoying my well done fries as requested. Thank you Moritz for your excellent customer service. Special thanks to Jimmy and Christian. I'm glad to comfortably be back.

This was my first time in Dekalb Market, and honestly, Moritz would not have been my first, or even second choice. We split the Frank loaded fries, and separate salads.. green salad, and german cucumber. In my opinion, there was little too much sauce on the fries, and the salad was overdressed. That being said, the fries were very well cooked, and the service was excellent! I really liked the aesthetics of the market, and I could see myself stopping at Moritz again for some fries..

Moritz is a nice spot to pass by in the Dekalb Food Market, where you want to grab a quick side to accompany a main course or you feel like settling down for a full meal. I ordered the loaded chicken fries with the intention of grabbing a sandwich of some sort in order to mix and match a little bit. It turns out that the loaded chicken fries are quite the attraction on their own. The fries themselves have a decent crunch and were nicely salted. The sauces also gave me the right balance of sweet and savory. Usually I wouldn't be too fond of ketchup when it comes to loaded fries, but they really made it work here. The chicken wasn't ideal for me: I was hoping for a bit more texture. But for what it was, it got the job done. Tastes great and goes well with the fries and sauces. Overall, this was a job well done. I'd definitely love to return to try some more menu items here.

Stopped by for a quick bite pre Trader Joe's visit, located in the Dekalb Food Hall, Moritz gives you a taste of Austria. I love French fries and could make a meal out of them, thus I did, with a side of schnitzel. There are a few options on the menu: twice cut fries, loaded fries with Berlin ketchup and sausage, truffle and Dutch with onions. Me, I'm a plain fry girl, thus, ordered the twice cut fries with the skin on and a very auspicious and daring sauce on the side: mayonnaise. I also ordered the schnitzel wrap with red cabbage and their aioli remoulade. First the fries: loved the skin on them, crisp and the best part: not greasy! They are pricey at $7 for a small order $14 for a large! ( tater sticker shock) The schnitzel was just okay and disappointing: I have dined on the most delicious schnitzel in Vienna and was always moist and fried to perfection. Here, the cabbage and sauce overpowers the chicken so I really couldn't taste it.. the next time I will just ask for the schnitzel with you guessed it mayonnaise, lettuce and tomato if they can allow for substitution. The space itself is small and the server was really preparing multiple meals solo.. I give him credit. I will be back.. the fries are the main draw and it had me singing just like Fraulien Maria in the Sound of Music! Al vita Zane!

The bartender was good but in the weeds. Beer was great. (Try the double bock on tap--rich beers, served from very clean lines, in a half-liter glass. Take that pint ;) This made the wait run smooth. I had a farmer's plate, which was well over a pound of pork in various guises. As the waitress said, "It's good for more meals". Wife's schnitzel under a mildly spicy tomato sauce is good. Glad we didn't get appetizers, as the portions are generous. And very delicious. The bartender worked very hard to keep up. Another bartender to run the service bar and another waitron on the floor, and things would have run more like they used to when they were on Fifth Avenue. Even as they were running around, everyone was friendly. Still, wife and I had a very good time, and do not pass up the smoked beer. (Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Märzen, I'm fairly sure: aka liquid bacon.) Several beers on tap, and the bottled selection can't be beat around here. An impressive comeback that can only get better.

I finally got to visit here, and it only took a trip to a foreign country to do it…read more Coming off the heels of a trip to Switzerland, I decided to stop here because in case for those that do not know, Switzerland and Germany share important and similar cuisines and cultures. After all, Switzerland and Germany share a border, and a language. Most Swiss speak German, so I figure this would be a great spot to try after spending six days in one of Europe's underrated gems. I am here to break it all down for you to tell you what I got, the rating, and then conclude whether or not you should spend your cash (yes, this is a cash only restaurant) here. For this restaurant to have a create your own Schnitzel option is one that I took seriously, and I am happy that I have the opportunity to do it. I got three cutlets of each variety, pork, chicken, and veal, then smothered it with mushroom gravy (rahmschnitzel style), then topping it with an egg. Since it comes with two sides, I chose the pretzel and the spaetzle, but those will be discussed separately. For dessert, I got their apple strudel because no true German dinner would be complete without be ordering one of them. ---- Schnitzel: The Schnitzel here is as delicious as I had it many times over in Switzerland. Lean cut, lots of flavor, good breading, and a character reminiscent of its European brethren, I was happy to eat it and I told my server that this was delicious. The veal one is probably the best, then the chicken, followed by the pork, but either of the three work well in a pinch. The mushroom gravy is spot on with plenty of mushrooms and the gravy is deep, and rich. Getting the fried egg on top gave it all a nice texture and though it costs extra, definitely get the add on. Eating all three had for a moment wanting me to turn around, and get back on a plane to Geneva or Zurich. Star rating: 4.5/5 Spaetzle: Spaeztle is German pasta, like a soggy noddle, but can be made either with meat, cheese or left on its own. It very much is like its cousin, gnocchi, as it is a potato pasta, with starchy flavor and needs to soak up its contents or the whole thing tastes lousy. Fortunately, the cheese here makes it like a European Mac n cheese. The cheese to the pasta make it quite the salty dish, but I enjoyed this a lot and really felt that this was a surefire side that I must get if I were to return. Star rating: 4/5 Pretzel: A Brezel, as it is called here, works well on its own. The cheeses they provide you give absolutely no character. I would also like it if the pretzel were saltless. The pretzels in Europe contain very little, to any salt, they let the butteriness and the bread do the talking. I had to scrape most of it off to save the taste, but it was still tough. To make this work you need at least to try the mustards once, but it only made it work just slightly. This is where they drop the ball, at least to me, on some authenticity to concede to American tastes. Star rating: 3.5/5 Strudel: The strudel here comes in apple form, which is not a surprise considering that was something I noticed as well while in Switzerland. The cream it comes with is delicious (because why else?), however everything else sends it downhill. It is tough, chewy, and was borderline burnt for about 80% of the pastry. I tried to cut it with a fork and knife but it only made the matter worse. Not the ideal way to end things. It is also quite expensive. Star rating: 2/5 ---- The food on the whole is absolutely delicious, but they also offer entertainment. Because the restaurant is small, it creates an issue hard to hear anything but the instruments and an uncomfortable environment to enjoy a meal. As the band that night was continuing to set up and prepare, the meal became less enjoyable because the acoustics in the restaurant are poor and made it harder to think straight. Once able, I paid my bill as quickly as possible got out of there before the band was able to really start performing. There was ringing in my ears for a time after I left as well. Lousy acoustics and dessert aside, this is a great way to try some authentic Alsace cuisine without having to fly to the region.

Goulash- This was a dish George had and honestly, they were amazing. Highly recommend. I thought the flavor but more importantly the texture was amazing. A lot of times when you have slow cooked beef, they could sometimes get stringy and chewy, no not here. Also the spätzle was a really great pairing. Mussels- These were some fat ass mussels. The flavor of them was good, the night I went they were spicyyyyyyy. This was a well made dish and i appreciate their creativeity but I do prefer a simple garlic shallot butter and white wine where I want to drink the broth afterwards. The broth on this was too spicy too drink. Roasted Boneless Pork Chop- Pork chops are always a gamble and the one here was just OK. The sauce it came in was nice, kind on the heavy side but a delcious cream sauce. The pork was cut super thin and unfortunely they came out dry and chewy. The fries were a nice shoestring fry which were nice and crunchy. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA&select=14_-Katrn9Glu-wA65-CHg

It's not somewhere that I would voluntarily go, as a crowd is a bit on the younger side (mid 20s) and it does give a "post college" vibe, but I can see why it's popular. One of the urinals apparently had vomit in it all afternoon which tracks. Service is generally quick but you have to go up to the bar to order. Crowded and a bit rowdy. Good for bar crawls.
