Creamy and spicy, only if you mix in the hot parts. They come to table and weigh the meat in front of you so you know what you're paying for. It is cooked rare or medium rare. This is NOT like steakhouses in NYC. In its own category. It was presented with melting bone marrow, sea salt and cut off the bone. Extremely flavorful and tender. My only issue is that the fat doesn't render and there was silverskin in some pieces making it inedible, plus you've paid for this by weight. Great attentive service by Nick

Despite ordering heavily--a steak, pasta, omelet, and salad (while surrounding tables shared a single dish)--we never received water during our dinner. We had to eat our entire meal with nothing to drink. * Clear bias: Tables seated long after us were given water immediately upon seating and had their orders taken well before us. * Neglect until the check: Water was only brought alongside the check, and even then, we had to ask separately for cups. When I calmly asked Chaime why our water took so long, especially given that a nearby table seated as we finished was served water right away, she told me to speak with the manager. However, when I attempted to explain the situation to her, Chaime immediately cut me off and began yelling at me. I never raised my voice once. Yet, as she was yelling, she taunted me, asking, "What tone? You gonna cry? Huh?" To be treated with such hostility and malice simply for asking about basic service is completely unacceptable. Management needs to address this server's hostile behavior immediately. Save your money and go somewhere where guests are treated with basic respect.

Seemed to me that if you don't have a reservation then you're out of luck, because there was no waitlist and the restaurant small and space was limited. Service was great. Our waitress was highly attentive and got us in/out of the restaurant quickly, which was what we were going for. Food came out in a timely manner. We ordered the penne al ragu, salad misto, and a Florentine steak to share. The penne was perfectly al dente, and I liked the meat sauce. I did find the pasta sauce salty, but it could've came from the grated parmesan. The saltiness was not a fluke. The Florentine steak was just pure beef and a ton of salt... too much salt for my liking. I also decided that I'm not a fan of Florentine steak in general.

The steak came out on a hot stone slab on top of a wooden box. The slab obviously continued to cook the steak so I immediately took off a few pieces to prevent this. The steak was thick and tender with chunks of large salt grains. It looked nice all sliced up but that's where the compliments end. It lacked flavor and ended up cooking to be more medium rare when I grabbed my pieces and then even medium by the time my dad grabbed his second slice. Our waitress seemed annoyed when we asked for the truffle sauce to accompany our steak (my dad forgot to ask for it when we placed our original order) and walked away with a huff to go grab it. The fries came out cold and limp with flavorless truffle shavings on top. I'm not sure why this place has such great reviews. Maybe it got too big for its britches and the quality has declined? The one saving grace was the crema bruciata! And the very understanding hostess who gladly pushed our reservation from 7:30 to 8:00pm due to travel difficulties. Whatever the reason, this place definitely missed the mark. You can't walk three steps without seeing a steakhouse here in Florence. My recommendation? Try one of those.

When the bill arrived, the entire check was in Italian, but one message was prominently displayed in large English letters: "GRATUITY NOT INCLUDED." We gave our waiter a generous tip, in part because he was standing over us while we paid, making us feel rushed and uncomfortable. When we returned to our accommodations and finally examined the receipt, we discovered that we had been charged for an extra bottle of wine that we never ordered. This was especially frustrating because we had already left a generous tip, only to discover that we had been overcharged for something we never received. It's a shame because the food was good and the service was good. However, the prominently displayed tip message, feeling rushed to pay, and the charge for wine we never ordered put a bad taste in our mouths at the end of the meal -- no pun intended! My advice to fellow tourists visiting Florence: Be careful and thoroughly check your bill before paying. Don't let anyone rush you. Take the time to verify every item, especially when ordering wine, and make sure you are being charged only for what you actually ordered. My husband and I had been fighting a cold, and the wind on this particular night, just before New Year's was really brisk and I didn't want us any sicker, so we opted for a restaurant near the hotel, and this was steps away. Our trusted guest services man was off and wasn't available to guide us to a recommended restaurant. I again resorted to Google and Yelp. I saw the reviews weren't the best as other places we could have chosen. The other reason we settled for this was we wanted something with chicken since we had a cold. Their menu had chicken parmesan and this seemed like a good option. To start we were greeted by a host and then server who kept trying to push alcohol or at least it seemed they were hoping we would bite on some alcohol items that they wanted us to begin with, such as for an aperitif. Instead, we began our meal with the spinach souffle, which was pretty good. I also noticed at the point after they sat us down, that Americans or people who looked American were sequestered. This was not the first Italian restaurant I'd noticed this, but I felt it was particular with touristy restaurants. Also, no one brought any bread to our table, and no olive oil nor vinegar. What? This is an obvious tell-tale sign you're in a touristy restaurant or one that serves a large portion of Americans who don't eat their salad like Europeans do with red wine vinegar and olive oil. No olive oil with garlic for bread either. On another note, I'd felt rushed, and the only rushed restaurant in Italy I'd been to whereas in Italy one takes time to enjoy food, and this was another tell because they functioned like any Olive Garden in America, in and out quick for more profits. I had left to the bathroom, and my husband said that someone came by so quick and scooped my palte that he didn't have a chance to them I was still eating. Another thing that caught my attention was the entertainment value they presented when the young woman at the table next to us order the Cacio e Pepe pasta, which is just cheese, peppercorn and pasta. What this restaurant does is fancy the American thrill seeking eye with drama and flare by bringing the chef near your table, and has them toss pasta, pepper and cheese into a pan (the size of wok) all over some flame. This gives those would be attention-seeking Americans who can't bring their precious poodle inside the restaurant to get the "awes" something else to feel acknowledged by. I had asked the girl what she was having, and when she told me, I was like, "Oh, yes, other normal, locally approved restaurants, wouldn't go through the trouble." I undoubtably know her "cacio e pepe" was perhaps a bit bland. as was our watery Chicken parmesan, which I've made better at home myself. It was not terribly bland, but some onion, olive oil, sea salt, and a tad bit of garlic would have made me wince and smile. I'd mentioned this visit to our guest services man at our hotel, who had been a good guide for another restaurant, and when I mentioned this restaurant, he rolled his eyes. Enough said.

Inside, it feels like a traditional Tuscan dining room: warm lighting, warm yellow-painted walls, rustic wood furnishings, and a cozy, intimate layout. The vibe is relaxed and authentically local, with a slower-paced, sit-down dining experience that encourages lingering. At around 8pm on a Wednesday night, the restaurant was mostly full, but our party of five was able to be seated immediately. The menu is extensive, with both Italian and English versions; there's also a daily special menu that's quite fairly priced, and has some more traditional Italian dishes. They offer some more familiar options like bruschetta and meatballs with tomato sauce, as well as the classic Bistecca alla Fiorentina. Each table comes with complementary bread service, which was a bit stale, but it's free; what more could you ask for? It was also paired with a rich, earthy olive oil and tangy balsamic vinegar. Four members of our party ordered Aperol Spritzes (€8) - these were tangy, refreshing, and with just the right amount of sweetness countering the fizzy Prosecco and citrusy, herbal Aperol. For entrees, two members of our party ordered the Spaghetti Fiaccheraia (€13), which is spaghetti in garlic and oil with chili pepper, bacon, and ricotta. While this seems like quite a simple dish, there's so much complexity in the variety of flavors and textures. The spaghetti was al dente, and soaked up the addictive, slightly-spicy garlic oil; they were also more than willing to exclude the bacon for my vegetarian friend. Another friend opted for the Pappardelle Coniglio (€13) on the special menu - a tomato-based pasta with rabbit. Certainly a dish you couldn't get at most Italian places in the States, and the wide noodles paired nicely with the acidic tomatoes and gamey rabbit. The Ravioli Burro Salvia (€15) was a traditional Florentine ravioli with ricotta cheese, spinach, butter, and sage; while the portion was a bit small, this dish was truly made with care. The filling let the earthy flavor of the spinach shine while being further elevated by the sage and rich, tangy ricotta cheese. Lastly, my Spaghetti alla Carbonara Fiorentina Tartufata (€17) was an indulgent take on the classic spaghetti carbonara, with egg, pecorino cheese, bacon, and freshly-shaved black truffle. While this was a tasty dish with a large portion, the sauce had partially clotted, and I found it to be missing some component of acidity or brightness to liven the dish up and contrast the richness. I was stuffed by the end of my meal, but some members of my party opted for their Tiramisu (€7) - this is an elevated take on the classic Italian dessert, with whipped mascarpone and coffee-soaked ladyfingers served in a parfait-like glass and sprinkled with a light dusting of cocoa powder. It was neither too sweet nor too rich; the perfect amount of decadence to end a meal. We had a lovely time during our dinner at Trattoria Antellesi, prices are more than reasonable for a traditional trattoria experience with delicious food and a lovely ambience. It may not be as flashy as some of the more touristy restaurants in the city, but certainly a great stop for traditional Florentine food if you're in the area!

However, the cuisine in Lorenzo de Medici is an experience and an explosion of taste I've never experienced before. We had brochetta for appetizer, the house Red Wine, lasagna (which was fire) linguine with fettuccine Alfredo and chicken, which wasn't on the menu but they made it special for my son, and a pasta with pears. Also he surprised me with a desert that was the best I've ever tasted called Zuccatto Fiorentino. One of the best part of this entire experience is Raphael the waiter. Raphael made my family feel so welcome and loved. It seemed as though he was a part of my family that has always been there with us. His energy is inviting and is what makes you feel good and special. If you ever decide to visit Florence Italy, you should try to make it a mission to go and ask for Raphael.
