Avocado Eggroll
Ana M.

The place was really nice and elegant. Our waiter came to bring our menus right away. The food was good I had the tofu pad Thai, sweet potato fries, and avocado egg rolls as appetizers. I also had a Pineapple Paloma which was superb. Only bad part of all this is parking you can do Valet but your meal has to be more then a certain amount in order for them to cover parking. So if I came during happy hour it would not work. Then you would have to park on the other side of the mall just to come eat or pay valet. Ridiculous. Food though amazing and customer service.

I love it here. Bartender Alexandria is nice and will have a conversation with you when you come alone. Service was great, ambiance is nice, food is cheap and good.

Hanging in San Antonio with my wife for the weekend. Hmmm, haven't seen a Kona in my hood in years. Had some success with happy hours back in the day at the Houston Galleria location. We've walked around North Star Mall. Had a heated negotiation over an overpriced Rolex at Gurinsky's. Didn't buy, BTW. Now, I'm needing some libations to settle the mood. Here we come to bar seating at Kona. Didn't realize RA Sushi, Benihana, and Kona are all under one company. Seems like you're betting alot on Asian. Modified my own margarita to feature Yuzu flavor. Had to actually research Yelp menu photos as the KG website doesn't even have what I decided to snack on. Sushi and Salad! Your basic raw tuna roll with your choice of a few nigiri. Good bites; fresh enough for this Country Bumpkin. I will point out a few observations over the years. First Kona has already went through a bankruptcy. Bought by the current restaurant group way back now. I noticed a 2017 review by Tomas R. that's points out happy hours are a good value here. BUT, the rest of the restaurant is empty. Bar only happy hours are great but it comes at a price when nobody is willing to dine on the rest of the menu. Same empty spaces seen at the Domain location (now closed) and the Houston Galleria (also closed). You can only reinvent the roll so many times. Same with eggrolls, edamame, satay, and the pulverized ramen salad that accompanied my sushi. Honestly, I had truly forgotten about this salad from the 2000s! I'd open your entire space to HH to maximize profits.

Great experience here. The happy hour is awesome! They have so many options on the menu. We loved all the small appetizers that they offered. We also got the steak and shrimp as an entree. It was cooked perfectly. I would definetly come back for the happy hour, including the all day happy hour they have. The service was great. It was a busy day but the server made sure to check in constantly. Inside the place is a lot of tvs and many tables. It is family friendly and has a lot of space to accomodate. Highly recommend!

We were in San Antonio for our son's Air Force graduation. Unfortunately it was Thanksgiving week. So here we go fly half way across the country and thought where can we have Thanksgiving with the family. Kona grill was the place we choose and I have to say the meal in itself was delicious . The Thanksgiving dinner was perfect. I had surf and turf and have to say the steak was perfectly cooked and an amazing steak . Thank you to everyone at Kona for making thanksgiving 2025 a memorable dinning experience !

Came in for brunch and left irritated af with how the server handled the conversation. I was trying to enjoy brunch before the Mother's Day rush but I left instead of staying.

Such a fun night hanging out at the bar and having dinner and drinks. The bartender was super nice and the food came out so fast.

The service was great. Our waiter was really knowledgeable and friendly. I had the pasta and it just had no flavor. The calamari had too much breading, the kids burger plate was good. The prices here are just a bit high and it's very loud and dark in the restaurant.

What it usually looks like....

Extremely disappointed by our happy hour visit. This has been one of my favorite spots for a long time to come in for power lunch and happy hours. Our bartender was amazing. Service wasn't the issue. Drinks were great. However, in the last couple weeks since I last came in, they changed the potstickers from 6 to 3 for $9 which is barely even a "deal" anymore. Everytime I've ordered them they've been fried. They came out seared instead this time, but they fixed it. Not a huge deal. The huge disappointment was the bbq chicken flatbread. This has been my go to for 7 years- every single time I come to Kona I get this and have never seen it like this. I asked for no onions, but they also left off the cilantro without mentioning it. They also downsized the size of the pizza from a full flatbread pizza to 4 lousy triangles (also not mentioned they changed it). It came out hard and tough. Not sure if I'll even try another location if this is their new flatbread. Awful. I included images of what it usually looks like vs what came out

The Chicken and Waffles Brunch Dish

I decided to give Kona Grill another shot because I wanted to try their brunch. I got the chicken and waffles for brunch. It was good, but I wish you got more food for what you paid for it. It's $26. I received great customer service. I never wanted for anything. The chicken and waffles are a one and done for me. Their brunch menu was very small as well. The next time I go back,I will get something different.

Happy hour menu is very generous on drinks and food. Fabulous variety of options. Service is quick. Specials can be ordered to table and then packed to go. We ordered too much and wanted to order more for the homebodies. No desserts on the specials. Fries are addictive. Restaurant has great parking after 9 pm when the mall closes.

Came in for happy hour with a small group. Service was great. Every was brought out in a timely manner. Happy Hour specials are great. Definitely can eat and drink for HH without breaking the bank. Might have to make this a regular thing

After Tuesday visit, the rating remains on 5, but only because we had an amazing time on Sunday. Maybe on Tuesday there was a different chef, but food just didn't taste the same, and a few Sunday dishes we asked for on Tuesday (standard menu) were sold out. Both times I had rice lager specially brewed for the restaurant, and it was delicious. An absolute highlight on Sunday was the dish called Hand of God - the smoky wagyu on top of the rice cake was just an absolute perfection, not anything I had before (this dish was not available on Tuesday). We also had similarly smoky vegetable roll which was also experience in itself. This was my first time at the sushi restaurant where waiter suggested that the nigiri pieces are perfectly ready to eat, require no extra soy sauce or wasabi, and should be picked up by hand instead of chopsticks - another wonderful experience. I also had few different nigiri piece, two different types of mackerel and uni - an absolute wow (on Sunday). Service was good both days, but still a little bit better on Sunday (better recommendations). Definitely recommended.

They have a garage attached and you can get it validated with the staff but it's kind of a complicated process for the amount of people coming per night for the restaurant. I would highly recommend making a reservation because every single table had a reserve sign on it. I got to try the gyozas, hamachi, shrimp tempura roll (not on happy hour menu), and various other rolls off the happy hour menu. My favorite was the gyozas and the hamachi. The gyozas had a nice sauce and it wasn't overly sweet. The hamachi tasted fresh and had good flavors. The rolls were not my favorite because they were very wet and not a lot of actual fish. My friend tried the fried fish dish and didn't enjoy it and he never complains about food. Service was odd too; they tried to act as if it was a bougie restaurant but the service didn't quite measure up. I felt a little rushed and our server wasn't really friendly. Interior is nice though.

They change up the vinyls a couple times when we dined but they usually play the whole album. The food is more elevated than expected. The lobster was interesting because it came with this potato soup mash we never had before but it was pretty tasty. Lobster tail was cooked well but it was around $30+ and wasn't satisfying for a main entree. The Wagyu skewer was okay. We expected a fattier cut of meat but it tasted like normal steak to me. The sashimi bowl was good! Every piece of fish was fresh and unique. I really enjoyed it and it was a good portion size for a main entree compared to the lobster. The calamari is definitely a must try! We loved it and probably the best calamari we've had. Overall, we enjoyed the ambiance and service was great. But the menu is definitely a lot more elevated and for people with more "exquisite" tastes.

We didn't realize this place was a cousin of Shiro and owned by the same guy until we saw some similarities in their style, layout and menu but nevertheless, the food was still absolutely amazing. Even though the ambiance had some similarities, I'm glad their food options were distinguished because otherwise could have just gone downtown. You cannot go wrong with any of their food options. Highly recommend doing family style so you can get a taste of everything and all the different flavors. We started with the gyoza and calamari which were to die for and were not greasy at all. Pork ssam, wagyu, miso pasta and octopus all brought a little bit of their own element and flare to your palate that it's hard to describe unless you try it. Wagyu was just melt in your mouth delicious. Pork ssam and octopus had their crunchy texture and umami flavors. The miso pasta added a light refreshing touch to balance everything out but don't let it fool ya, the noodles will expand in your stomach. We topped it off with their yuzu cake. Our only disappointment was they were out of their other desserts but nevertheless everyone of us left full and happy. Would come here again.

But hey, this is what the birthday girl wanted, so this is what she got. We came here after a full day at Six Flags, starving, and hunger definitely made for the best sauce. One thing we have to say about Wild Goji that is A+++: they have Hitachino yuzu ON DRAFT!! Hitachino is one of our favorite breweries, and we had tried this version when we are in Japan, and could not believe our luck finding it here! It's worth the price of admission alone. As for the food, well, it is what it is. Honestly, it's not terrible, but you can tell you're not getting the creme de la creme (unsurprisingly). We mostly stuck to tuna and salmon, but we did appreciate their spicy garlic edamame (not spicy at all) and their spicy seaweed salad (slightly spicy). We ordered tempura that we had to send back because the sweet potato wasn't fully cooked. Some of the dishes on the conveyer belt definitely looked unappetizing (like the omelet roll) and since we were towards the middle-end of the restaurant, we had to wait a while for food to come our way. Service is minimal, but the atmosphere is boisterous because these kinds of places are fun. We were smart to make a quick reservation on our way from Six Flags because the place was slammed by the time that we left. Three stars, but it'll remain a fond memory celebrating our daughter's 9th birthday.

We were so excited to have this location open up here in San Antonio, but quickly disappointed by the lack of quality overall. First off, the killer beef rib ramen tastes so watered down. TRUST ME. I've eaten so many bowls. I've tried the San Antonio location 4 times and it's let me down each time. The fish also tastes-- overwhelmingly fishy. I love fish, but it just doesn't taste like good quality. The last straw was when my daughter ordered her fried imitation crab sticks. She swallowed something rough but continued to bite through. After the second bite she pulled an ENTIRE PIECE OF DEEP FRIED PLASTIC out from underneath the panko bread crumbs. The waitress was apologetic and took it back. The remade 3 sticks out of the 5 even though the 2 other sticks were left on plates uneaten. We honestly didn't want them after that. I wish they would have just taken them and deducted it from the bill. That's my fault for not advocating for myself, but I was just in shock and pissed that my daughter ate a piece of plastic. They did give us a little plate of freezer burnt chocolate ice cream. Freezer burnt, but free. It's no wonder that this place is ALWAYS empty every time we visit here. Tbh we'll be driving the hour to the Austin location if we ever crave Blufin again.
