We got fried green tomatoes, avocado melt, a crispy chicken sandwich, onion rings and fries and everything was GF and so good!

I have never been to a restaurant with so much personality! As you enter the restaurant, you see a sign that states, "Welcome Home !" Love that... As you walk in you experience an explosion of captivation. My eyes were drawn to the meticulously constructed American and Texas flags. Wow!!! They're huge and affixed to the ceiling. This restaurant is large and exceedingly interesting. One of the rooms has a huge mosaic of Willie Nelson...beautifull and striking! They have another room with an assortment of donated boots. So intriguing...Then the collections...license plates, beer cans, pictures, hats, decorative metal saddles...I have not had a morsel of food and I'm totally enamored. Met my brother for breakfast. You might be asking why I'm having breakfast in a place that is heavy carnivore given I'm doing the Daniel fast. Well, my brother insisted. Smile. I vaguely recall him saying something like I'm not eating that vegan stuff . Needless to say, he's not pro vegan. Sigh. It is important to note, ample free parking is available. Our server, Xocchil was southern hospitality friendly. She was so bubbly, which set the pace for the remainder of our meal. She epitomized excellent service!!! Both our meals were quite delicious. My brother had Belgian waffles, scrambled eggs with American cheese (he said he can rarely find this option) and bacon. I had potatoes and grits. We were happy as little larks!!! Definitely a "go to" in San Antonio, TX.

Went in thinking I'd give it another chance as restaurant is close to NE Baptist where my sister is presently at... And what a disaster at least w/my order: cup of beef stew??? Did not know you could mess such a simple thing up! So, not only was their 1 sole piece of beef wasn't pricey but a lil surprised at the amount of beef. Then I partook & I don't think I've ever had a soup with sssooo much black pepper that the right side of my face began to swell. And I have NO FOOD ALLERGIES! Now, I will say my husband was satisfied w/his meatloaf that is the reason for 2 stars.

If you're looking for a solid Texas comfort meal with genuine hospitality, Mama's by the Airport delivers exactly what it promises, and then some. I stopped in around 2:30 on a Tuesday afternoon, just after the holidays, so it was a slower period. Even then, the food came out quickly and fresh, which mattered since I was on a tight timeline with a flight to catch. This is exactly the kind of place you want when you need a great meal without stress, right near the airport. Pablo took care of me, and he absolutely made the experience. Funny, quick-witted, and genuinely engaging, he brought that rare human connection that turns a meal into a memory. A brief but meaningful conversation, attentive service, and great timing throughout. It's clear he enjoys what he does, and it shows. The food was excellent. I went with a Texas staple, chicken fried steak, and it didn't disappoint. Crispy, well-seasoned, and satisfying, exactly what you hope for when ordering it in Texas. The real standout for me, though, was the collard greens. As someone from North Carolina, I don't say this lightly, these were the best collards I've had outside of NC. Perfectly cooked, full of flavor, with a subtle Hispanic flair and just a touch of spice that elevated them without overpowering the dish. Comfort food done right, friendly service, and an easy in-and-out location near the airport make this an easy recommendation. Mama's isn't trying to be trendy, it's just trying to be good, and that's exactly what it is. Everything is made in house, a real bonus. Five stars, and I'll absolutely be back next time I'm flying through San Antonio.

LOVE! This is definitely a spot to come visit. The ambiance is incredible & comfortable. The staff are all nice, respectful, and welcoming. The food is tasty, I really enjoyed the chicken fried steak & the fried green tomatoes. They have several items on the menu that can be make gluten free and I was not let down at all. My waitress took the time to explain the menu to us, as well as, to explain what can be made gluten free. She also took the time to explain why certain items could not be made gluten free. By far exceeded my expectations. The cheesecake is gluten free as well and definitely homemade. IT WAS SO GOOD! My husband had the burger & enjoyed it. He recommended it, stated it was "very good & juicy".

We've seen mamas for a while and how it was always packed so we assumed it was good and finally got to give it a try today. Our 20min wait wasn't bad considering the crowd and our waiter was nice. Our food is where it kind of fell flat, I shared a burger with my kiddo since I wasn't super hungry and got it medium well with fries. It was an okay burger, about what I'd expect for a standard cheeseburger with some veggies. The fries weren't hot but weren't cold either, they at least had a nice crunch though which I enjoyed. My husband got the fried chicken sandwich and he said it was just okay, he didn't like the fries due to temp. The restaurant itself is cute, over all though I don't know that we'll be back due to the price point not matching food expectations.

My daughter and I visited Mama's Cafe and our meals were superb. My pancakes with maple syrup were great, the scrambled eggs and bacon on the side were great and the milk was fresh. My daughter loved her liver and onions with gravy, the gravy was made with some sort of wine, and the greens - oh those greens were too die for only thing missing was corn bread to go with those greens. My daughter ordered bisquits which were square (odd) but they were tasty. The homemade plum jam was excellent! She ordered the Sriracha onion rings (hot and did not taste good) which were a miss. Overall, our meals were great and the restaurant decor was interesting! I looked up above our table and there was a replica of Texas made out of wine corks on the ceiling. There was also an American flag replica another place on the ceiling, both were cute and there were a lot of metal tractor seats hanging on the wall. Our servers were very nice and offered menu selections that were point on. I ordered a cinnamon roll to go and my daughter ordered cheesecake. Overall, dining at Mama's was great. RECOMMEDATION: A definite return!

We arrived around 11:15am, and they were somewhat busy. We had a party of 7, and they were kind enough to seat us in back to back booths to avoid having to wait over an hour. Yes, it's a bit noisy, however to be expected for a busy spot. Xavier was our waiter, very attentive and friendly. Excellent service hands down. We order a mix of things from the menu, biscuit with a side of gravy, helluva mess breakfast, chicken fried steak, avocado BLT, and crispy chicken caesar salad. The food, AMAZING! So so good. We nearly ate everything on our plates even tho we were full. Didn't want to waste a bite. Hands down, if you're in the area, this place is a MUST! They do take reservations I found out, so call ahead. And ask for Xavier! He's fantastic!

The Yelp description is perfect when it says it's a Texas themed comfort food restaurant. Try the Crispy Deviled Eggs. With some additional salt sprinkled on top they're perfect. Chicken Fried Steak and Pot Roast were good too. Service was very friendly and attentive.

Waiter name was Xavier he was nice and friendly checked in with us enough to avoid our glasses getting empty! Has country music playing low so you can still carry a conversation. Pancakes were good standard - never been a fan of watery syrup but it's what you expect a pancake to be! The country fried steak was spot on! Gravy was good, great portion for the plate and steak wasn't salty just perfect! Hash brown was fluffy no seasoning but scrambled with the eggs and the bacon I took from my son's plate made it perfect!

Stopped in for lunch after an early round of golf and looking for some comfort food, I decided to stop in at Mama's and I'm glad I did. I hadn't been to Mama's in a few years and was hoping they were still putting out good food. I start off by ordering the fried mushrooms as an app and the meatloaf for my main course. The interior decor has stayed the same and gives off a welcoming vibe. The mushrooms come our first and are a nice golden brown on the outside, with a nice crunch when you bite into one which is then followed by the juiciness of the mushroom. Still as good as I remember. You are provided two dips, gravy and ranch dressing. The meatloaf comes out next, and it was served with two slices of loaf. Upon tasting, the loaf is nicely seasoned and moist. The mashed potatoes are also nicely whipped and buttered and hit the spot. The mac-n-cheese is very gooey and does not disappoint. Comfort food indeed! As a treat, I ordered their basque cheesecake and it was fabulous. They are one of the few restaurants that have that on their menu, so I recommend trying it if you like cheesecake. Overall, I really enjoyed this meal and look forward to coming back and trying some old faves.

For 73 years, The Barn Door has been more than a great restaurant; it has been an inexorable piece of San Antonio history. Last week, The Barn Door announced on Facebook that its final day of service will be Sunday, May 11th (Mother's Day). The Barn Door has been an outstanding steakhouse in the truest sense. They've never relied on gimmicks or culinary trends--they've relied on the tried-and-true flavors that have maintained a loyal clientele for decades. I'm taking about hand-cut, primal cuts of beef grilled over real mesquite, delivering that unmistakable South Texas char. I'm referring to plump, wild-caught shrimp from the Gulf Coast, the famous yeast rolls, and tubs of homemade salad dressings. If you've been there, you know how special the overall experience has been. I've read many heartfelt comments on social media asking why such a successful institution would cease operations. Well, dear reader, I have a unique insight into why. Randy Stokes has poured his heart into the restaurant, but he merely leases the building--not the land--from the Straus family. Approximately seven months ago, Mr. Straus decided to sell the dirt beneath the "Barn" to a real estate developer. The plan? To raze this historic site and erect modern condos. It's a familiar story of urban expansion, but it doesn't make the loss any easier to swallow. But before we close the door on "The Barn" forever, a glimmer of hope looms on the horizon. Randy Stokes and his team aren't necessarily hanging up their aprons for good. According to a reliable anonymous source, the team has expressed a desire to reopen The Barn Door at a new location, with eyes set currently on the city's North Side. I hope the promise of a new location comes to fruition, but even if The Barn Door closes forever, I will cherish all the wonderful memories of dining there with my parents and grandparents over the years. I will remember the ingratiating staff, the unique ambience, and the hundreds of delicious meals I've crammed down my gullet.

It's a sketchy area to walk behind the restaurant to the Speakeasy. Anyhow, I ordered the chicken fried ribeye, jalapeño twice baked potato. Now, the potato was great. I didn't care for the ribeye and didn't eat it. The salad was right out of the bag. Iceberg, shredded carrots and cabbage with 5 bagged croutons. What happened? It wasn't like that before. My cream spinach came out late, and we weren't charged for it, which was nice. My brother in laws filet was too done. He asked for medium, and it was medium well. He ate it anyway. They used to have a 6oz ladies filet, but they don't. The server wasn't perfect, but we lived. IF I return, I'll skip the salad, get the filet and potato.
