So far my experience with Kohnur has been nothing but great! From the beginning Theresa took so much time to talk me through my wedding vision. My biggest desire was to have an beauty team that is inclusive for diverse wedding party, and Theresa has assured me we will be well taken care of! I had a trial with Fennie and she was lovely. Completely attentive and collaborative in helping me get the look I wanted. Can't wait to use Kohnur for my wedding! read more

I booked Kohnur for my wedding earlier this month and was very happy! I had hair and makeup done for myself and six other ladies, and everyone was very pleased. The team was prompt and professional, and made sure everyone got what they wanted. Everyone looked gorgeous! Theresa went above and beyond communicating with me throughout the process, and the team was flexible and pleasant. Thank you ladies! read more

I am a wedding coordinator in the Los Angeles area, and my company has been working with Kohnur for the past 14 years. I had the best experience with Kohnur! The entire experience was extremely seamless, and their customer service was the best I found in the Pasadena area. I was looking for several artists and decided upon Kohnur because of their customer service and professionalism. Tokiko was my artist for my photoshoot, and she did such a fantastic job. She matched exactly what I was going for and made the experience so comfortable and fun. I highly recommend Tokiko for any event! read more

I am so glad I found this team! From communication to booking to day-of execution this was all 5-stars. I was very concerned about finding someone who would understand how to keep up hair fixed in an up-do (I have a LOT of hair) for my sisters wedding. I also wanted makeup done but not over-done. They asked for pictures and descriptions in advance to make sure we were all on the same page. To make their job harder, I didn't have exact photos of what I wanted, just a collection of ideas and photos and specifics of what I didn't want. And they totally worked with me. The day of the wedding, my cousin and I were met at the salon by Sandy, who was pleasant, professional, and did a FANTASTIC job. In 3hrs, we both got our hair done beautifully and my makeup was flawless (and didn't make me look too done up, which was my worry about letting someone do it in the first place). We both got compliments all evening. If I have any more events in the LA area, I'll be going to Pasadena to see Sandy! Thanks again! Xoxo read more

I recently had my hair and makeup done by the wonderful Kohnur team of artists and I cannot express how great their team is! From the moment I met the hair stylist, they made me feel comfortable and I felt confident that the hair stylist would be able to create what I showed as an example. My hair came out exactly the way I envisioned it. When it was time to do my makeup, I was not quite sure what I wanted, but the makeup artist quickly guided me to find a look that would best fit with the dress that I was going to wear. The makeup came out natural, smooth and flawless! I am so grateful to Kohnur Premier Bridal Beauty for helping me feel beautiful! read more

My wedding was June 2019, and we booked Kohnur for makeup/hair services for my engagement shoot as well as the wedding day for myself, my mother, maid of honor, and 3 bridesmaids. Whereas nothing is perfect on a wedding day, at least my makeup/hair and that of my wedding party and mother were beautiful. Tokiko was the person I worked with and she was great. Friendly and was so good with makeup and especially hair. I received many compliments. My first experience with kohnur was years ago (around 6-7 years) when my brother got married and I knew from then that most likely I would book them for my wedding as well. And we did!! Pros: - on time ( amazing since we started getting ready at like 5 am) - prepared with all the necessary accessories and equipment - efficient (we were all ready according to schedule, they were able to finish our makeup/hair in a very timely manner) - easy to work with and provided good opinions (e.g. which accessories to use and side bun versus back bun) - natural makeup and foundation was smooth (the foundation is something that is very important to me, since I have had many experiences with really bad foundation that looks too heavy or bumpy) - hair was done very efficiently and nicely (the hair was smooth and the style done neatly, I don't like it when there are little hairs or baby hairs sticking up) - both Tokiko and Theresa (who I booked with) responded to all messages efficiently and communication went very smoothly I was immediately asked for a referral the day after my wedding! I would be booking Kohnur for my future events and I fully recommend them. read more

Since I really wanted something natural and cute (i.e., not so dramatic), I asked my wedding planner Bliss to recommend an Asian style studio to me. I'm glad that they recommended Kohnur. Theresa was super sweet and caring from the very beginning to the end. I (as the bride) and my husband had Chloe as our make-up/hair artist and the bridesmaids got theirs from Sandy. All styles turned out to be great! Everyone loved how we looked. They arrived a bit earlier for the appointment which was really considerate, since make-up/hair always runs longer than expected. We actually ended up spending more than 4 hours because I needed to eat something, address some other issues, etc. They carried several big suitcases full of equipment. They were working efficiently but not in hasty. My mom needed a bit help with her hair and Sandy was very kind to help her out. Yuura who was just shadowing then but offered to help with my nails because it was difficult for me to do this myself during my own make-up. Everyone was really sweet. I loved their services! Brides, if you want a perfect look on your special day for yourself and your bridal party, don't hesitate to go to Kohnur! It's slightly pricier than other studios, but it is definitely worth it for your once in a lifetime event! read more

Theresa's work is simply perfection! She has the magic of knowing exactly what a bride has in her mind, and the touch to making that a reality on her big day. It is very important to me to find a makeup artiest who's an expert at Asian bridal hair and makeup, and I probably spent more time trying to find an artist than finding our amazing wedding planner. I highly recommend an engagement photoshoot trial before the wedding day or a bridal trial, or both. She did my engagement photoshoot H&M and had a plan for my sensitive skin and stubborn/thick hair. On the wedding day, Theresa and her awesome assistant made every single wedding party member (of different races) happy about their look. And of course, I couldn't be happier about how I feel about myself, and the fact that my bridal updo and makeup stayed perfectly intact through hours of ocean air, wind gust and dancing, without needing to retouch! Oh, and all of these happened midst COVID. We had to change our wedding location, size and date twice, and Theresa was so professional and supportive through all the stress! read more

Working with Theresa at Kohnur was a great experience! She took the time to understand my style and the vision I had for my wedding day and was so thoughtful throughout the whole process. My artist, Tokiko, was incredible for both my trial and my actual wedding day. She did such a great job and made the whole process so easy and seamless. Chloe also did an amazing job on my mother and mother-in-law. I highly recommend the investment in Kohnur for your big day! read more

5 Stars...meh! More like 10 STARS...(if only we could give our more stars) So, I'm sure all you brides can agree that when planning a wedding, it can be a bit stressful especially when it comes to RELIABLE vendors! I originally had a hair and make-up appointment for my engagement photos scheduled with another stylist (NOT Kohnur) Last minute, that vendor cancelled on me! I quickly called and emailed a bunch of other bridal hair and makeup artist and thankfully not only was Kohnur Bridal Studio the first to contract me back BUT was able to fit me into their schedule the day of my engagement shoot! (Thank you so much JOANNA!!! You are a life safer!) I was scheduled with JIN! JIN is so sweet and really talented! I showed her a few photos of different makeup styles and hairstyles and she was able to take inspiration from the photos and really worked her magic! I'm so happy that I was paired with JIN! I will be definitely be booking her for my wedding day!!! I think because I experienced another vendor cancelling on me last minute. I am a bit more cautious on which vendors I choose for my wedding. The last thing you want to worry about is a vendor canceling on you. I can honestly say that Kohnur is very trustworthy and reliable! After my engagement shoot, that evening, JIN followed up with me asking how the shoot went and how the hair and makeup held up. JOANNA is amazing and is in constant contact with you before and after your service. I even talked to THERESA regarding booking my wedding and she is so sweet and funny! If you are looking for a hair and makeup artist, I would definitely recommend Kohnur! You will for sure be in a great hands! read more

Working with Theresa and her team (especially Fennie) was absolutely a great experience for me. I was clueless on what styles of hair and makeup I would want for my engagement session, tea ceremony, and the wedding day. Theresa took her time to learn about me personally and my vision of the wedding during my consultation to guide me the styles would look best for me. She also handpicked the lead artist (Fennie) who turned out to be the best artist for me. Fennie did such a great job from engagement session, tea ceremony, to my big day. She created the best version look of myself. She is absolutely amazing. Kohnur team's communication was awesome, responsive, and flexible. It was about 3 weeks before my wedding. I wanted to add my aunt to the package I previously booked. Kohnur added my aunt to the schedule with no problem. And the best thing about doing business with Kohnur is that the artists will come to your location regardless of it's a pre-view trial. It worked best for me and saved me a tons of time. Having Kohnur and Fennie as my hair and makeup artist was the best decision I have made for my wedding! I would recommend Kohnur to any future brides for your beauty! read more

Planning a wedding is very stressful, especially we don't have a wedding planner, loads of research, phone calls, asking around. Two of my coworkers recommended Theresa for my bridal beauty. Before my booking, we had a few phone calls and spent half an hour to in google hangout to communicate what I want. I felt our connection immediately and booked her for my wedding, the trial and for my wedding party. Last Saturday, I did my bridal trial, that was an amazing experience and out of my expectation. We spent 4 hours together, not only I found what I exactly want for my wedding, I also found that Theresa is a great person to know. She was very patient, detail oriented, peaceful and natural. She relaxes me and I knew I wouldn't have to worry on my wedding day. Thank you Theresa, I can't wait for my wedding in 3 weeks. read more

Tokiko did my bridal hair and makeup and Chimi did my mother's hair and makeup. Both artists were so wonderful to work with and perfectly captured our vision for the big day. Tokiko was so communicative and helped me think through my beauty regimen as well as recommend a few things I was trying out for the first time like a new nail salon and different hair treatments. When I changed my mind during my trials she helped me think through different options and customized the look I was going for. My hair and makeup stayed perfect all day and I felt so beautiful, natural, and confident. I definitely recommend working with her. Chimi was also so lovely to work with and she made my mom look amazing. Highly recommend working with Kohnur for your event. read more

Wow! Is really all I can say, from the customer service, to the makeup artists to the quality of work, its just outstanding. I found this place really last minute for my wedding which was supposed to be back in May and then the pandemic hit and I had to push my date to October and I was so worried if I would still be able to keep the wonderful Makeup artist I found with Kohnur. The owner, Theresa, was so kind and patient and very personable, she made sure that both I and my mother-in-law had make up artist to glam us up and she sent the most wonderful people, Fennie and Jamie, who were just amazing. Overall I am so happy with how my hair and makeup turned out, im happy with the makeup artists and the amazing owner. Worth every penny! read more

I hired Kohnur last minute to do my hair and makeup for my engagement shoot. I was apprehensive because I had done makeup and hair trials with another company and had a really bad experience with with a company that was very unprofessional and ultimately did not do a good job. At Kohnur, I worked with Theresa to book and find my artist and then Emily was the one who did my hair and makeup. I can't tell you how happy I was with the results! Theresa understood exactly what I was going for and made sure to pair me up with the perfect stylist! So perfect in fact that my stylist and I are both native Floridians. Theresa was also willing to work with me via text/email/phone when I needed to which I really appreciated because I was trying to get all of this booked during a busy work day. When I arrived on site I was really impressed with Theresa's studio--the place is gorgeous and you instantly feel at ease. Emily was incredibly sweet and was prepared with the pictures I had provided Theresa. I really appreciated how she would ask me how I liked certain things as she went. For example, she would ask me how I liked the colors in the eyeshadow as she went, etc. She was also super patient. The end result was that I got exactly what I wanted but it looked even better than I could have hoped for. In fact, I was so happy with them that I booked them for my entire bridal party and I for my wedding this August. I honestly can't recommend Theresa and Emily enough! read more

Preview engagement hair and make up: First off, location should not reflect the quality of service. If you read other comments/reviews, people complain that it was difficult to find or get to the building. When Caroline Tsai emails you, she gives you full description and details how to get to and in the building. Plus where to park. Second: If they don't respond to your emails or phone calls as fast as you want them to, you can't blame them. This is a well-establish studio. They probably have many clients and are very busy. It happens. For me, I had no problem when it came to communication. Caroline was quick to respond to all my question via email. Review: I am not a type of person who does make and hair styling by my own at all... If there's anyone reading this post, don't worry. Theresa's team is the best. My artist for the preview was Tokiko. I was nervous coming in the appointment because I don't know how I would look since I've never got my make up done professionally. So when she asked me what kind of make up, I said natural, nothing heavy. She was friendly, easy going, and gave me so much insight into what to expect on the day of the wedding. I showed her my pinterest board of the hairstyles I would like. I wanted curls because my hair is flat and would never ever...ever stay curled for long periods of time. Well, Tokiko must be a magician or something because she did two looks with curls and both were incredible and at the end I want to do both for my wedding. Also, she even brushed out my hair in the end of appointment, so I would have less worry about untangling all the hairspray from the curling. Overall, My artist and the service was 5/5 stars for preview session. She was very considerate and I enjoyed being there. I look forward to my whole look for my wedding day. Can't wait! read more

Starting with the inquiry process... Kohnur stood out as more professional, more ready, and having a more streamlined service process. Caroline was extremely organized and prompt with all her correspondence. It was actually one of the determining factors when I booked with Kohnur, because they have a dedicated person to all the scheduling and the administrative process of working with a makeup company. I feel like so many other companies have their MUA do the office duties and they just multitask all the time. Our wedding was in La Jolla this past March. I have 10 bridesmaids and 2 mothers that I needed makeup service for. am very particular about makeup and I wanted artists that know exactly what to do with Asian features. So, I searched high and low for an MUA group that have large enough of a gallery and nice Instagram aesthetics (as an Instagrammer it's important to me). So, Theresa Huang's company (now known as Kohnur Beauty Studio) stood out to me. So, I booked the service. We wound up hiring 6 different artists, who all drove down to La Jolla the day of the wedding. They are all so professional, friendly, and did fantastic jobs on all of my bridesmaids makeup and hair. My own MUA was Tokiko Inoue, who did an AMAZING job. I can't tell you how happy I was with my makeup, it was EXACTLY what I wanted. She was very intuitive and has a good eye for details. She truly listened and tried to understand my vision. On my wedding day, she stood by myself faithfully and fixed all the minor blemishes... things that I didn't even notice. She was like a dear and close friend that was by my side on one of the most important days in my life. I loved her craft and presence. I could not ask for a better MUA. Theresa showed up to our wedding with the crew as well and did some of our hair. She is also so talented, has an elevated sense of style, super easy-going and friendly. She was very attentive and courteous to the whole group. We were all very impressed by the entire team's service. I would recommend this company to ANYONE who wants their makeup done perfectly for their wedding day!! read more

Here is a long overdue review for Tokiko, who did my engagement makeup in April of 2015. I was absolutely so happy with my engagement makeup and have never felt so beautiful in my life (other than my wedding day). Tokiko nailed the exact look I was going for, and although I was sitting in her chair for hours, she was so easy to talk to and so sweet that the time flew by. I strangely ran into her a few months later while walking my dog and she remembered me! I would highly recommend Tokiko for any and all of your wedding/engagement makeup needs. read more

I couldn't love this amazing beauty team more! From the flawless application of make-up, to effortlessly styled manes!! They are the bees knees when it comes to Beauty, for sure! The visit was such a dream too! I sat down in the chair, asked them to do what they do best and gosh did I come out looking stunning (if I may be so modest!). Theresa has a wonderful array of stylists and she is prepared to do what it takes to pair you with the artist that perfectly matches you. And while each artist is so unique, they all have the same beautiful etiquette and grace - such dolls. Thanks for making me gorgeous ladies!! read more

As a wedding photographer servicing the LA/OC areas, I have the privilege of meeting wedding pros from the many networking parties I get to be a part of. Seeing Theresa's great work in the years I've known her, she has been on my vendor list that I recommend to my brides. I finally had the chance to be made up by Theresa herself November this year, for my annual holiday card photo session with my husband. I have been styled by other stylists in my network and I've liked my looks before, but I absolutely LOVED what Theresa did with my hair and makeup! First of all, let me just say that I am not the easiest person to make up. I have very thin hair which never stays curled no matter what, and I have horrible skin. I was so thrilled to see that my make up covered all my imperfections without it feeling heavy on my skin. You can literally touch your face and not see oil on your fingertips. I was also impressed that Theresa got creative with my hair. I asked her to decide what she wants to do with it, and she took extra care in braiding my hair and making it look fluffy. I honestly felt and looked beautiful that day that I begged my husband to take me out on a date after our photo shoot so I don't waste my pretty makeup. By the end of the day, my hair and makeup still looked fresh, I almost didn't want to wash it off ;) Overall, I highly recommend Theresa and her team to anyone looking for stylists. Seriously, if she can make me look like a million bucks for a photo shoot, imagine what she can do to you on your wedding day! -Wai Reyes read more

This review is very, very overdue (sorry!). I normally don't write Yelp reviews, but I appreciate great customer service and honest businesses that do great work. Kohnur is amazing. I used them for hair/makeup for my engagement photos and wedding last August. Theresa is a sweetheart and so easy to work with. She was very accessible, reasonable, always so kind, and very professional. The prices are a little steep, but honestly, you get what you pay for. It's worth it. But now to the best part. Tokiko, my stylist. Man, is she exceptionally talented. She listened carefully to what I wanted, provided her honest feedback, and executed her work masterfully. I honestly couldn't be more happy on my wedding day when I looked in the mirror. Thank you, Kohnur and Tokiko!!! read more

I booked Kohnur for hair and makeup for my wedding. I first saw their good work at my friend's wedding where I was a bridesmaid. The team was prompt, took care of hair/makeup for the bride, 5 bridesmaids, 2 mothers and one grandmother. Everyone looked incredible and the team was able to finish with time to spare. I've been to weddings where the bridal party is running late, but I was impressed by their quality work and how they adhered to a timeline. I did my hair/makeup for my engagement photos and bridal trial with Michelle, who has been attentive, friendly and receptive to feedback. It's truly been a pleasure to work with her. The team, including Theresa and Jillian, who helped me connect with Michelle and answer any questions, have been prompt, polite and excellent to work with. I am looking forward to my wedding day where I know Kohnur will make everyone feel beautiful. read more

At my wedding planner's recommendation, I chose Kohnur for my trial + wedding day hair and makeup. Tokiko was my stylist for both. She is so sweet, thoughtful, thorough, and sincere, and ultimately I got the perfect hair/makeup style I had envisioned for my wedding day. But there were several disappointments along the way with Kohnur that ultimately made me decide to give 3/5 stars. - I think Tokiko's talent is with makeup. She is simply magical with her brushes and has a great eye for the perfect makeup style for each bride's face and atmosphere. I could not have been happier with my makeup on the trial day and wedding day. I wanted a natural, elegant look and Tokiko executed this perfectly with my makeup. - Whereas with makeup Tokiko knew exactly what would look good on me without my having to give much input, I had to provide much more direction for my hair. My trial hairstyle before the wedding day was average and afterwards, I could see from photos that it was not the most flattering style for my face and head shape. I ended up trying multiple hairstyles at home and looking through countless photos before coming up with the best hairstyle for me. To my relief, when instructed exactly how I wanted my hair to be done, Tokiko was able to deliver on the wedding day and I couldn't have been happier with my final look. It did take a lot of effort and trials on my part though to achieve the desired hairstyle. - We initially booked my husband's hair/makeup with Kohnur for the trial and wedding day, but we were not satisfied with his trial hair, so we decided to book his wedding day hair/makeup elsewhere. Again, Tokiko is so gifted with makeup but her ability to style hair left something to be desired. For this same reason, I decided to cancel my bridesmaids' hair booking with Kohnur. - The assistant makeup artist (Chloe) who accompanied Tokiko on our wedding day for my bridesmaids' makeup was a major disappointment. My sister provided detailed feedback multiple times on how she wanted her makeup done, but Chloe still failed to deliver; in fact, my sister ended up redoing her makeup herself. Chloe also hardly ever smiled or talked with minimal eye contact the entire time she was working. I expected much better quality and service, especially because Kohnur's prices were not cheap compared to other stylists we considered. - After numerous emails back and forth as my husband and I were trying to schedule a date for our hair/makeup trial, we finally settled on a date that worked for Tokiko, our photographer (for our engagement photos), and the two of us (my husband and I are both doctors so there are limited weekends when we are both free). We purchased our flights to LA for that weekend for our trial since we both live in NorCal. Several weeks later Theresa emailed us informing us that we needed to choose a different date for our trial because she had another client who wanted to book Tokiko on that day for their wedding. Needless to say, my husband and I were frustrated because it took significant coordination and effort to arrange that date, and we had gone as far as to book our flights. Theresa did offer a free upgrade to airbrush makeup for our trial as an apology after the fact, but this experience certainly made us lose confidence in Kohnur. In conclusion, the final product that Kohnur delivered (wedding day hair/makeup) was excellent but the process of achieving it was unnecessarily difficult. read more

Even with so many options for bridal make-up and hair, Theresa Huang made it an easy decision. The amount of care and attention that she and her staff provide to clients is beyond what I had encountered from other vendors. Caroline is very friendly, professional, and prompt in responding to any questions or concerns. Theresa personally reached out to me and was able to work with my tight budget. She took the time to get to know me and my style and paired me with Aveline, who is amazing!!! Since I never wear make-up on a daily basis, I did not want to look like a completely different person. Aveline is the one to go to if you want a flawless natural look! I did my trial with her and she was very patient and understanding of the natural look that I wanted. She made sure that I felt comfortable and happy with the amount of make-up applied. She also put together a few different hair styles on me so that I can see different looks. My mom was with me at the trial and she is very critical and picky, but she was amazed by Aveline's work and loved how my hair and make-up turned out. I highly recommend Aveline and I know she will do an amazing job for my big day! She is so friendly and sweet :) I really appreciate the great customer service from all the staff here! Definitely go with Theresa if you don't want to feel like another number. They dedicate a lot of time and care for each of their clients and they frequently checked in on me, which seems pretty rare in the wedding industry. Will definitely be recommending Theresa Huang and Aveline to any friends who get engaged! read more

Theresa is very sweet and talented but she just didn't come through for me on my wedding day! I went for a preview session with her and I loved the results. I felt really confident and did not worry about how I would look for the big day. She came to my hotel in the morning of my wedding and she did my hair and make-up. I went straight to the photo shoot that I had to be at right after she finished and I didn't get a chance to inspect my hair. When I got to the photo shoot, my friends and family kept telling me that my hair was a mess. They kept trying to "fix" it but I didn't let them touch it because I didn't think it would be that bad. After the wedding, I saw pictures of what my hair looked like and I was really sad, angry, and depressed to see how my hair looked for my wedding day. I gave her one star because no matter how much potential she has, she didn't come through for me. She also charged me $100 extra for her to air-brush my arms, back, and neck but she never provided that service. SEE THE PICTURES FOR YOURSELF! I uploaded a picture of my hair right after the preview session and one of me during my ceremony. Click on my name to see them. read more

Words cannot even began on how happy I was to work with Kohnur Beauty, specifically the owner Theresa Huang. I worked with her on assembling a team of artists for my wedding day, for 5 bridemaids, three relatives and myself over two locations. They executed in amazing fashion. After some back and forth, we decided that Theresa would do my make-up, and it was worth the investment. She came up with a H&M that was stunning and I could not even dreamed of. I have very fine hair, yet she managed to create such volume and style, that even my phototags said (your hair is on fire). Her and her team were friendly, no ego and were just a joy to work with. I had my engagement session hair and makeup + trial session with Monica. Here is a breakdown: 5 stars for Monica: her personality is just so sweet and kind. 5 stars for Monica's makeup: she's really amazing and listens to what you want. 3.5 stars for Monica's hair: it didn't make me think "wow, i really like it". 2 stars for professionalism (of the business, not Monica): I received multiple emails from them that were for other brides, not for me. I don't understand why you would repeatedly mix up the clients. One of the emails was for a bride who had recently had her hair/makeup done and it was asking her to give them 5 stars on wedding wire + yelp in exchange for a gift card which made me question the integrity of all the 5 star reviews on yelp. I would still recommend Monica to other brides. It's definitely worth it to do a trial session with her. I took advantage of their refund policy: you can put a deposit to hold your wedding date, and as long as you have your trial 2 months prior to your wedding date you can get a refund of your deposit if you are not happy with it. Now, onto finding another hair/makeup artist for the wedding... read more

I am not someone who wears a lot of makeup and I am deathly afraid of a caked on face. Also, one of my biggest concerns is still looking like myself. As the big fat procrastinator that I am, I hadn't looked or booked a hair and makeup team even though my big day was approaching in less than 4 months. Lucky for me, I ended up going to dinner with my girlfriend Trang P. the day she had her preview at the studio, and she looked FAB! So, I hurried up and called Theresa to book a consult the next day. In brief, this is what happens **CONSULTATION** 1) meet with Theresa, bring change to park on the street or $5 to park in the lot :) 2) talk about your dress, venue, theme, desired look & feel (basically...girlfriend chat!) 3) Theresa will match you with the artist she thinks will be best suited with you I felt the interview with Theresa was really personal. I know she has tons of clients, but she just seemed genuinely interested in all the little details. And I gotta say...she picked the PERFECT ARTIST FOR ME, Miss Tina! **PREVIEW DAY** Again, like the giant procrastinator I am, I didn't book my trial until 7 days before my wedding. I would recommend a littttttle earlier than that, just in case there are weird reactions. Luckily, I had no sensitivities (and I am a sensitive person) 1) meet your artist at the studio, definitely park in the lot because you will be there for a longgggggg time (4 hours) 2) brings pics of the hair you're interested in & a regular pic of yourself in makeup 3) View your hair three different ways (awwwesome!) with photos taken & your makeup in the light vs darker version with photos (aweeeesomee!) I chose to pay for the airbrush upgrade fee for an additional $40 dollars. I thought it was expensive to "see" if I liked it, but after trying....worrrrth it! Since I never had airbrush before, I thought it would be better to trial it before as opposed to try it for the first time ever on my wedding day. AIRBRUSH IS A-MAZING! It smooths out your flaws and somehow is so incredibly light, it feels like it's JUST your face. This is coming from someone who wears NO powder or foundation. #mindblown orrrr should I say....#faceblown LOL Tina was incredibly patient the entire time. She showed me how I could have my hair THREE different ways. Initially, I thought I wanted my hair up...but I actually didn't like it as much as I thought I would when it was done (even though she accomplished the exact style I wanted). She then showed it to me two different ways to make sure I fell in love with my "look". And I did :) Tina is seriously an artist. She was blending so many colors, I felt like she was painting on me. At home, I use five colors MAX. I swear, she must've used 40. But the look was really natural & and I still felt like myself...just prettier, but not so different that friends wouldn't recognize me hahah. **WEDDING DAY** I had 7 bridesmaids who needed hair & makeup, mom & mother in law for hair & makeup and 2 bridesmaids for makeup only PLUS me. Tina came with a team of 4 girls ON TIME and ready to start the day. Everyone LOVED the services they received. Everyone looked soo good. We finished with 20 minutes to spare. Ten people and five artists were all in the suite at the same time.....and it was a fun and stress free environment. (I don't know how that is possible, but I really had the best time with the girls while getting ready) My hair and makeup....FLAWLESS. I got so many compliments all night long & I know it's because Tina gave me THE LOOK :) :) I learned through my wedding process that some vendors will deliver what they promise, and some will fall short. In my case, my hair and makeup team was the best performing vendor and DELIVERED BEYOND what was promised. Would I recommend this studio? Can I get a HELL YES! read more

I hired Kohnur for my wedding in August 2022. Although my wedding isn't for a couple of months, between my trial and my first conversations with Theresa and her team I'm completely confident and excited to continue to work with them in the upcoming months. Their helpful beauty tips in order to prepare for my wedding and general care for their clients show how professional and committed they are to their brides. read more

Fellow Yelpers and Brides-to-be, sometimes it is helpful to remind yourself that in this world, you get what you pay for. Scroll to end for short version. Heed my warning and avoid my tale of woe (at other places)... After researching what it would cost to book a reputable makeup artist, I encountered what can only be described as sticker shock. Paying hundreds of dollars to have your hair and makeup done sounds crazy to the uninitiated. So I did what any DIY bride or sane person would do - I shopped around. And you know what? You can find bridal makeup at local salons for quite a bit cheaper. But that's where the comparison ends. I went ahead and booked a trial at the 'bargain' salon and felt okay with the results. Was it spectacular? No. Was it terrible? No. Even then, there were a few warning signs. The fake lashes she put on were REALLY uncomfortable - hard to blink and a burning sensation. Within the hour, my eyes started watering. Since I paid good money for this, I toughed it out. By the time I got home, I realized that there were tiny bits of eyeshadow dust on my contacts causing me to tear up. When I tried to take the fake lashes off, it wouldn't budge. After a few tries, I ended up ripping it off my eyelid which also removed some skin. It took 2 weeks for my eyelids to stop burning. Despite this, I ACTUALLY booked her to do my makeup for the engagement photos. Long story short, it was a pretty bad experience - I had the same issues as the first session. The photo shoot was only an hour but felt a lot longer as my eyes wouldn't stop tearing up so I couldn't really see. After doing a bit of research on the burning sensation, I believe this is caused by the artist using the wrong type of eye lash glue. Strip lashes usually require an flexible opaque type glue while individual lashes require a hard clear glue. But I digress. Maria at TH Makeup did my trial and I could tell the difference immediately. The level of professionalism from both Theresa and Maria was perfectly suited to the bridal industry. They know their market and the business well. That said, their skill is on a whole other level. Between the airbrushing, blending and styling, the 4 hours just flew by. There was constant communication (we just couldn't shut up!) - not only about my makeup routine and the wedding but random common interests. They explained that they test all the products they use on themselves before clients and are still open enough to ask what brands/products I used. I'm eternally grateful for their intuitiveness (and graciousness) - knowing that many brides are still undecided on hair. They offered to take photos in each style to help me decide. Four hair styles with expertly applied makeup later, I walked out looking/feeling fabulous and confident that the same will happen on my big day. The short version: trying to skimp on makeup/hair to save $$ for your big day is simply not worth it. You get what you pay for. Oh and incidentally, her prices are comparable to other top rated (via the Knot) makeup artists with similar experience. So cut corners elsewhere - like the cake (no pun intended) - you won't regret going with Theresa. read more

This review is so long overdue! Choosing Kohnur Beauty Studio for my wedding hair and makeup was the best decision I made! For the ceremony and pictures, I ended up going with a long romantic braid (definitely buy the extensions!) and everyone was raving about how unique and beautiful it looked. I also invested in the touch-up service and would recommend that every bride does the same! During group pictures, Theresa was touching my face up before we went for a look change. For the reception, I added more lashes and went with a more simple half up half down hairstyle. I got so many compliments throughout the entire day! Theresa and her team of stylists absolutely made my wedding day! They were prompt, professional and friendly. They really focused on bringing out everyone's natural beauty without going overboard. I had the best time working with her and would absolutely recommend her services. So remember when you book Theresa Huang for the big day - buy the extensions, airbrush application, and touch-up services! read more

Theresa is great. She is highly skilled and so easy to talk to. She is very detail oriented and makes sure you are completely satisfied with your look. I usually hate having my makeup done and end up redoing it in the bathroom, but none of that with Theresa! She makes you feel at ease - her studio is adorable, she plays excellent music, and chatting to her is like talking to an old friend. Loved her! Keep in mind that I'm only reviewing Theresa. She brought 2 assistant artists for my bridesmaids. Liked one, not the other. They were both very sweet (sisters I think), and while one went with the natural look we asked for, the other went with the "match eyes to dress" strategy, which I really hate. One of my bridesmaids was headed towards looking like an Easter Egg...I asked Theresa to ask her to adjust, which she did, but I wasn't thrilled with the results. I could tell my bm wasn't loving it either. Mascara looked spidery and that shade of plum should not be on anyone's eyes. If I remember correctly, we did a touch up after they left with more neutral colors. read more

I was married on Oct. 7, 2012 and Monica Chiu and I couldn't have been a better match. How lucky am I? Here are the reasons why I think it worked out so well for us: 1. We clicked, personality-wise: Monica is a down-to-earth, cut-to-the-chase straight talker. She won't coo at you, she won't play things up. She will tell you how she feels about something and she's confident in her opinion. This instills confidence right away in the client and I appreciated that, especially since I'm not usually a make-up user. 2. I did my homework: I put together my own "board" for Monica to give her a sense of what I was looking for... and she actually looked at it thoroughly! We had a few conversations over email to clarify some things and that meant that during my preview, things came together very quickly. It's important to give the artist as many references as possible (they're not mind-readers!)....but a good artist will "get it" right away and Monica got me and my style so quickly that I ended up using her first preview hairstyle for my wedding look. 3. Professionalism: The day of the wedding is usually hectic. Monica was calm, steady, focused and as a result, I could relax and know I would look great. There was a last minute lipstick color change, a curve ball to our day, but Monica handled it so calmly, even though everyone was calling us to hurry up. I was a bit frantic but she was solid. That made a huge difference. Even my mom was impressed. I should also mention that we had a second artist, Tokiko, on the day of the wedding for mom's and bridesmaids and she did a great job too - totally polite, patient, and calm too. Everyone looked great. Overall, I can say I was very satisfied with my experience with Monica. I got so many compliments on the wedding day, I was seriously blushing. I never felt so pretty in my life. Thanks Monica, for such a great memory. read more
