Fennie and Theresa were AWESOME! From the correspondence to the finished look - 5 STARS! I am from out of town and flew in to look at wedding venues and my fiancé and I decided last minute we wanted to take engagement photos while in Santa Monica. I was having trouble finding a good match days prior to the trip and contacted my wedding planner to see if she had recommendations. She recommended Kohnur and I emailed right away and got a prompt response. We were able to work out a time and arrange for someone to come to my hotel room pretty quickly and seamlessly. She assigned Fennie to me and encouraged me to send what looks I wanted to for both beauty and hair. Which made me feel like my needs would be met and I was really being listened to. They also sent prepping instructions for hair and make-up which were helpful! Nothing too crazy at all. Just to hydrate my face the night before/ wash hair the night before. Fennie was very professional and so friendly. She arrived just before her set time and also finished right when needed to head out for the shoot. We chatted while getting my hair and makeup done the whole time. She is very easy to talk to and sweet. I'm not use to wearing false eyelashes but I wanted them to make sure it came out in the photos. Whenever my eyes got a little irritated, Fennie would check in on me to make sure I was ok. I'm absolutely thrilled I was able to book with them for the photos! I was also always worried that my coloring wouldn't be met when searching for a MUA but I saw no blending issues at all! Thank you, Fennie and Theresa! Thankful to have been sent your way! read more

I booked Kohnur for my wedding and have been working with Tokiko, who is so amazing! I had my HMU trial with her, and I felt like she was so friendly, patient, and open to hearing my opinions and preferences in hair & makeup styles. We tried a couple different hairstyles with and without hair accessories, as well as different eyeshadow styles and lip colors. I never felt rushed during the trial, but rather she just had my best interests at heart. Super excited for the day of! read more

Tokiko was an absolute joy to work with, and she helped bring to life my vision for my wedding day perfectly! Throughout the wedding and still after, I've received nonstop compliments about my hair and makeup. I was unclear going into the trial about my beauty situation, but the team at Kohnur was so helpful in constructing a pre-trial slidedeck for me to fill out with inspo photos and descriptors. That alone helped me coordinate my multiple dresses with the looks I wanted for my day. During the trial, Tokiko referred back to the dress photos and my inspo to tweak my hair and makeup, and with my limited beauty vocabulary, she still managed to translate it into EXACTLY what I wanted for the tea ceremony and the western reception. For both looks, I wanted classy, modern, and romantic, with an emphasis on modern for the western portion of the day. Tokiko was very considerate of the material of the dresses I chose and went so far as to help me decide when and how to change throughout the day to minimize the toll on my hair and makeup while sticking to my schedule. She also took into consideration the weather of the day and how my skin might react differently from my trial, so she adjusted my makeup on the wedding day to resist oiliness and sun, given the hotter weather. Tokiko was also super easy to talk with throughout the process and chatting with her as the wedding day progressed was like a little break in such a hectic time. I was fortunate enough to have Kohnur also do the hair and makeup for the ladies in the wedding party, and the experience of having four beauty artists in the same place working on 8 girls was a clinic in organization--and we managed to finish ahead of schedule! Many of the girls rarely wore makeup in their daily lives, but all of them loved the hair and makeup looks they each received! Communication with Theresa and Kristine was also super clear and easy! I am thankful to the team at Kohnur for their professionalism, competence, and kind nature. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to another friend also planning their wedding. read more

I knew without a doubt when I was planning my wedding that I needed to have Theresa and her team do my bridal/bridesmaids hair and makeup. One of my friends had booked Kohnur for her wedding several years back and my bridesmaid makeup was amazing (the bride's makeup was flawless). I've tried many bridal makeup companies and Theresa's team is the only one that I've never had a break out afterwards (I have sensitive skin) and where my then boyfriend (now husband) didn't think I turned into a whole different person. For my wedding on 7/29/17, I booked Theresa to do my bridal makeup/hair and although as the chief artist she's a bit more expensive, Theresa is an overall amazing artist/stylist and person. I needed my makeup to be super natural since I don't wear makeup on a normal basis and Theresa knew exactly how to make it happen. Her technique, attention to detail, professionalism, organization, and mastery of makeup and hair is unmatched and I would recommend her without a second thought. I booked hair and makeup for my 6 bridesmaids, hair/makeup for my mom, and touch up make up for my groom. Theresa was very organized in how she scheduled her team. The team arrived at my hotel suite on time and ready to go. They worked like a well oiled machine on the day of my wedding which is exactly what I needed to meet all the timelines in the schedule. The team listened to all of my bridesmaids ideas for their styles and all of my bridesmaids loved how it all turned out. Everyone looked so beautiful. My makeup lasted the entire night, despite my brief moment of bride freak out tears. I would not hesitate to book Kohnur for any of my future events, but in regards to weddings, if you're looking for artists and stylists that know what they're doing, can match whatever style you're looking for, and be personable at the same time, go for Kohnur. You won't regret it. read more

Tokiko is simply a magician- it's really quite amazing how she can transform someone just by accentuating their natural features & without overdoing it. She is so nice, understanding, patient, and attentive. She notices the smallest details and is very patient through any changes you may request. She knew what I was asking for even when I didn't know how to explain it in words. She really wants every client to be 100% satisfied with their makeup and hair. I cried a lot on my wedding day and have oily skin especially on hot days, but my makeup did not smudge one bit! It lasted beyond 12 hours! Kohnur sent 4 artists in total to our hotel room on the wedding day for my entire bridal party. All artists were prompt and professional. They even brought their own lighting, because they knew hotel rooms tend to be dark. I thought this was an especially nice touch! I'm so glad that I chose to go with Tokiko and Kohnur on my wedding day- it was the most beautiful I've ever felt & that's exactly how every bride should feel on their wedding day. read more

My co-worker referred me to (then) TH Studio and (now) Kohnur Beauty right when I got engaged. I spent hours looking through their website, bridal book, her wedding photos and even instagram - there just wasnt anything i did NOT like! :) I knew this was the place to book my first vendor! Right from the start - I felt like I had VIP Access. I reached out to a Kohnur Beauty coordinator and she filled me in with all the deets. She even had a one on one consultation with me over the phone and was very flexible in scheduling a time to talk with me. Theresa Huang herself called me to make sure everything I was looking for was something her and her team could do. She made sure I was booked with the perfect artist just for me! I fell in love with their studio facility! It was so chic and so easy to find. My make up artist (Josie) actually walked me through where to park (parking lot adjacent to the studio), how long I have for it to still be free, personally greeting me at the front of the door to escort me into the studio via elevator. NOW THAT IS AMAZING HOSPITALITY! I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVED my bridal trial for hair and air brush make up - which I also used for my engagement shoot! Josie was so patient and offered her suggestions on what might look even BETTER than what I showed her on pinterest. :) THUMBS UP Kohnur - I can NOT wait for my wedding day in just two weeks!!! I chose Kohnur because my sister had actually used this company almost 10 years ago for her wedding. I was a bridesmaid and got my hair and makeup done and was so happy with their work that I remembered them for my own wedding. I worked with Aveline for my wedding hair and make up, as well as a trial beforehand. She's very personable and easy to work with. The hairstyle I initially wanted didn't really work for the length that my hair was at the time, but she took her time figuring out what would work best for my hair. She made some great suggestions and gave me a beautiful hairstyle that was very close to what I initially asked for. I got so many compliments on my hair and makeup on my wedding day and everything looked great in pictures. I coordinated with Aveline, Kristine and Theresa, they are all very lovely, accommodating and made the experience great. I highly recommend working with Kohnur, and Aveline specifically. They are great at what they do and really care about making you feel confident and beautiful on your special day. read more

The first wedding vendor I booked after I confirmed my venue was Theresa Huang for hair and makeup. I didn't even consider anyone else, that's how confident I was in Theresa and her team! Each artist is extensively trained to execute Theresa's signature style and provide exceptional customer service. They take the time to get to know you so they can tailor your look to your personality and wedding vision. When I was looking for a makeup artist to do my makeup, I started searching on Yelp. There was a myriad of choices; I started narrowing down to only a few and end up choosing Kohnur. What made Kohnur stood out was how personal they made you feel. I spoke to Theresa and she made me feel like it's not just about hiring someone to make you look beautiful on your special day, she wanted to make you feel beautiful in your own skin, a better version of yourself, but still you. I really like that motto. After the initial phone call, we did a zoom meeting and went over a PowerPoint slides that help to personalize your style and what you have vision. This helps her pair you with a makeup artist that with beautify you on your wedding day. I was paired with Aveline and she is such a pleasure to work with. She is so professional and talented and sweet. I wanted a certain makeup look and she was able to bring my vision to life. She did such a beautiful job for both my engagement and wedding makeup and I couldn't be happier with her work. She is really fantastic. Kristine was very helpful as well with coordinating all the time and meeting for the makeup to be done and I really appreciate that. It really helps to have someone who can set up the schedule when you have a million other things to do. The team at Kohnur made my day very special and I'm so glad I choose them. Tokiko is such a gem to work with, she is punctual and spent 4 hours on my trial looks. Both looks made me feel like my evolved and enhanced self. Kohnur as a company is very professional in every way, from quoting to holding my hand through every aspect of finding my perfect look. 5/5 on quality of work Tokiko did and 5/5 on Theresa's management on time and admin. Tokiko did an absolutely amazing job for my makeup and hair on my wedding day. She immediately nailed the look I had in mind during our trial, even though I only gave vague instruction-- a natural, glow-y makeup and a sophisticated yet textured up-do that had movement that paid homage to my natural curls. I don't usually wear much makeup so I was worried about looking too different or feeling it caked on, but it felt nice and light on my face. Even the fake eye lashes looked and felt so natural that I couldn't even tell which were the fake ones and which were my real lashes when taking them off at the end of the night lol! Both my hair and makeup stayed perfectly in place ALL DAY, even with the temperatures being up to 90 degrees for the first few hours of the wedding. Also, I didn't really think about how much time you spend chatting with your makeup artist on the morning of the one of the most important days of your life-- so you want that person to be a kind and calming presence. And Tokiko truly is. Thank you so much for everything, Tokiko! :) read more

Wedding trial with Tokiko was wonderful! So excited to work with these talented artists for our big day!

have too many requirements to hit minimum service fee. Didn't even make that clear on the intro call. Not to mention the artists are questionable. Made my moms face look like a clown and her hair looked worse than her usual hair. And they will try to charge extra any chance they get. Hated my makeup for preview cried for 2 days and wanted to do the trial again but Kounur tried to charge me another $250 just for a preview when I already paid $500. I was so anxious and worried a week before my wedding because of this vendor. (They don't let you do preview until like a week before your actual wedding date- so if you hate their style you're stuck with them ) I do jot recommend Kounur. Try to find a skilled makeup / hair artist instead of going through an agency like this. Because all they care about is making money & not the actual skill. To reply to the owners comments below : 1) No-- you did not make it clear about min requirement. I did plan to have bridesmaids but I got pregnant and had to move my wedding date earlier and wanted to make my wedding more simple. If I heard it on the initial call about all these minimum service fees, i wouldn't be pointing this out on a review site. 2.) the day of preview : she said she only has X min left etc. / we have time until 3pm etc. so I had assumed that Kounur will charge for extra time if I wanted to redo everything until I was satisfied. If anything, she didn't communicate to me about how extending time for preview session will be free of charge. I texted her after the preview because I needed time to analyze my makeup again and how I wanted it on the day of the wedding. Hence I texted her with detailed instructions. If I knew that the extended time for the preview is free of charge I would've had her stayed until I was satisfied. But she is in her 3rd trimester pregnancy, and she said she's tired just by standing, so didn't want her to make her stay longer / stand longer. And how is it different to extend time and to book another preview for unsatisfactorily experience on another day? Again, it sounds like an excuse to me. I also find it very interesting that Kounur doesn't even let her take maternity leave on her third trimester for SUCH physically intense work. (Stand long hours). 3.) why would I pay penalty and why would you charge penalty for changing the wedding date ? So I don't understand why you are making it sound like you are doing me a favor by not charging the penalty. I got pregnant. I simply changed the date from June to March. NO other vendor charged me any penalty fee. You are making your brand look worse by making these comments and excuses. 4) stop exaggerating about artist moving from one room to next. It's the same exact hotel and it takes 2 min to walk from my suite to my moms room. Also I didn't even want to have my mom do her hair / makeup. But I had to to hit the minimum. And again, you are talking about waiving a fee moving from one hotel room to another. You always try to charge something for ANYTHING which I find it preposterous. Artist moving from one hotel room to another takes 10min max with packing equipments etc. Why are you making it sound like you are doing a favor by not charging that. It's ridiculous. read more

Kohnur did hair and makeup for me, my mom, and my sister for my wedding party. Everything about them lived up to the hype!! First of all, Theresa was amazing getting everything set up for us. She was responsive, helpful, and incredibly sweet!! Jillian was also a rockstar sorting out all the details. I really appreciated that they sent over a document for me to upload inspiration pics - especially since I didn't have the time to do a trial before the big day. Grace and Olivia were our glam team on the day of the party - and they were both outstanding! They both made us feel so comfortable and executed our visions perfectly. I was feeling uncertain about how I wanted my false eyelashes to look, and Grace patiently worked on them until I felt they were absolutely right. I am also so happy to say that Olivia's work on my hair lasted all night - and we danced a TON so that's really saying something. I'm so grateful to Kohnur for making us look and feel our best on this super important day. I highly recommend them for brides and/or anyone looking to get glammed up for any occasion! read more

as i was looking for a hair and make up artist for my wedding my girlfriend recommended theresa huang. i yelped, i googled, i pinterested, etc. all i can for theresa huang company to see all of their work. which don't get me wrong was really good. at that time my soon to be cousin in law scheduled a trial for her wedding and i came along to see the makeup/hair artist work. the work that i saw was pretty impressive. prior to coming along i have went to theresa's website and entered my contact info for them to reach out to me. which no one ever did. then my soon to be cousin in law reached out to her contact person at theresa's informing them that i never got contacted. finally caroline reached out to me via email. i was able to schedule a free consultation with theresa. theresa taught me a lot. she gave me a lot of insight of what questions i should ask myself. questions i should ask my fiancé. and just things to think about and how to take care of my skin prior to my big day. once we were done she informed me that her staff most likely caroline would reach out to me to follow up and discuss if i wanna book/schedule a trial with one of her hair/make up artist within 2 weeks. my consultation was 7/31/14. my wedding was 1/25/15. let's say it's now april 2015 and although i no longer need a hair and makeup artist. it would be nice if someone would've gotten back to me. i think the poor communication and follow up from her staff made me not want to waste my time to hunt down companies that didn't care for my business. i had enough to worry about therefore i went with someone else. overall, their work is great. prices are on the high side but that's also because they've been in the business for awhile. hope that you have better luck than i do. And my experience was just a accidental glitch. tips: *appointments only. *kinda confusing and hard to get into their building. *free 2 hour parking nearby structures. read more

I wanted to be very picky about the makeup for my wedding. I've seen plenty of photos of girls who look nothing like they really looked after getting their makeup professionally done and I wanted to make sure I looked like myself on my wedding day. So, as I was trying to figure out exactly where I wanted to get my hair and makeup done, it was comforting to hear from Caroline, Theresa Huang's studio manager, that their goal is to enhance the natural beauty of their clients, so they don't even believe in before and after pictures. The amount of care and precision that Caroline took into consideration in trying to pick the perfect artist for me really impressed me and I immediately booked. Tokiko was my makeup artist. We first had preview on the day of my engagement photo shoot. She took about 4 hours, but she really wanted to make sure she got every detail perfectly. For example, one of my eyelids is bigger than the other, and somehow she cut tape and placed it perfectly such that it would make my eyelids look the same size. I didn't even know that was possible! She tried 2 hairstyles on me and I picked the one I liked the most. I couldn't have been happier with how my makeup looked, at least so I thought. Then came the wedding day and somehow, she did an even better job! I received so many compliments for how beautiful I looked the day of my wedding and I couldn't agree more. And honestly, one of the best parts was that after the day was over and I went to take off my makeup, it didn't feel like a disgusting amount. Of course there was a lot of makeup, but I didn't feel like I was taking pounds of it off my face. Honestly, I couldn't be happier with Caroline and Tokiko and I would recommend Theresa Huang's studio in a heartbeat! read more

This is my second time working with the Kohnur team. As a photographer, I always recommend them since their natural style makeup matches my light and airy look in my photos! Carrie was amazing and really took the time to make sure I was happy with my look. She was patient, sweet, and made me feel comfortable through the process. Things were busy, so I was nervous since I didn't have time to do a trial before my portrait session. However, Carrie nailed the look even though it was only her first time doing my makeup! First of all, THANK YOU, TINA!!! Tina was my make up and hair artist for my big day. She was soooo great! Professional! Nice! Kind! I did a make up trial and hair trail before wedding. And Everytime when Tina find some beautiful hair accessories, she would text me and let me know. Also, she looked all the trial pictures and let me know her thoughts, which hair style/make up suits me better. I was so nervous on the wedding day. Tina felt it and tried to play music and calm me down. She was so nice and kind. During the wedding day, I changed to three dresses and had 4 different hair changes. I'm lucky to have Tina as my make up/hair artist. She really did a great job! Every hair look and make up look amazing! I'm wordless to say how great she is! I had my hair and makeup trial with Tokiko earlier this week and she was fantastic to work with! She showed up on time and was so personable and friendly to spend a few hours with. I shared my inspiration photos with Tokiko so she has a better idea of what type of looks/vibe I like. She asked thoughtful questions to help us find the right colors/tone/looks. Throughout the trial, I felt like I was talking to my trusted hairdresser as we exchanged some personal stories to get to know one another better, including sharing some makeup tools and product tips! If there's an improvement area, it may be for the team to prep Tokiko ahead of time? I had previously shared my Pinterest inspiration photos and thought those would've been shared with Tokiko prior to our trial. Not a big deal, as I was able to pull up the photos during our trial, but thought that'd been helpful as a part of the prep. (But the team did send a prep email a couple of days ahead of time in terms of recommended steps for hair/skincare routine that was helpful!) Overall I had a great experience with Kohnur team and Tokiko and look forward to getting pampered again for my upcoming wedding in a few months! read more

Our artist was talented and skillful, and very polite. We enjoyed working with her. Tokiko is as good as everyone says, and she deserves 5 stars on her own. See tips below if you can't be bothered to read this lengthy review. Communication with Theresa the owner was challenging once she secured our business. At one point, we waited three to four week intervals for responses. Days before the wedding, we confirmed that our premium package included our additional bridesmaid. She was made aware of that change more than 6 months prior and acknowledged it. Because we brought it up however, she decided to charge an additional $30 for that bridesmaid even though we already had spent over $2000. The additional charge is obviously doable, but it just felt like the business was nickel-and-dime'ing a client last minute, when we had already paid for a premium priced team. As if to placate us, Theresa repeatedly told us how she was very generous with discounts already. Unbeknownst to her, our friend was a previous client and showed us her invoice for comparison and it was very much a standard discount. Tip: she will try to up-sell various services and products. Just use your engagement session as your trial. Really consider if you actually want, need, or even look good with airbrush as it isn't for everyone. Tip 2: keep in mind that positive reviews may be incentivized. just saying. read more

Theresa and her team are great to work with. Theresa was exceptionally helpful and accommodating which made the process very manageable and less daunting among the million things us brides have to juggle before the wedding. My consultation with Theresa was very informative. I didn't have a look in mind, and Theresa provided great suggestions. I had my engagement photo makeup done by Jin. She is really sweet and very talented. The makeup looked really natural and felt really light. I was sweating throughout my engagement session and the makeup looked fantastic. The photos came out amazing. My bridal makeup was done by Tokiko who is also very talented. 3 hours of bridal makeup sounds like a really long time, but it flew by faster than I had realized. Tokiko is very easy to work with and very attentive. Her makeup skills are amazing. It had a lot of coverage, looked very natural and felt really light. I definitely recommend if you are looking for full coverage makeup that doesn't look or feel cakey. read more

Five star review for Theresa and Tokiko! Tokiko is my hair and makeup artist for both trial and wedding day. I used my trial hair and makeup for engagement photo shoot as well. Throughout the trial, Tokiko was super pleasant to talk to and meticulous with everything she did. I love that Kohnur reserves 4 hours for trial. This gave me and Tokiko enough time to chat about desired look without rushing. After two hair-dos, Tokiko was nice enough to stay even longer to let my hair down for the engagement shoot. I couldn't be happier with the result for my shoot! I actually paid for a second trial just for hair because I was not 100% satisfied with the looks in the first one. Both Theresa and Tokiko were accommodating and thoughtfully provided suggestions to ensure that I would walk away happy. When it comes to administrative communications, I couldn't ask for better services than what I received from Theresa. She is responsible and prompt in her reply, and I was 100% assured in the beginning that I could count on her. Hair and Makeup is something I splurged on for my wedding. Compared to their competitors, Kohnur paid detailed attention to everything I said during consultation. It is great that Theresa and Tokiko took great care of me during this process! read more
