Out in a strip mall in Western Shawnee is a little place that serves one of the best patty melts (Fatty Patty) that I've had. It also has great chicken wings that they bake instead of fry, that are offered about 4 or 5 different ways: traditional buffalo, adobo, black magic and BBQ. They have an extensive beer menu (which you access from your phone) and specials every day of the week. They also have hamburgers, sandwiches, salads, chicken fingers and more. This is a fun place to hang out and watch a game as some of the tables have their own tv and they have a patio, too, if the Kansas weather is cooperating! read more

The home made poppers are good but next time I will ask for ranch instead of the Pepe ranch. The buffalo wings were tender and moist but very bland and needed more sauce. My first time here, and it won't be the last. I wasn't knowing what to expect when I walked in and saw the license plate decor, but I had good reviews by Yelpers I trusted to go by. We were pleasantly greeted by the young lady at the hostess stand, and asked where we'd like to sit. Our server was quickly out to take our drink orders. She gave us a good run down on the place and menu. They have a good draft and bottled beer selection for the size bar they are, and they have good specials on them, along with other libations. The menu isn't extensive, but just enough items to choose something good from. I think a smaller menu enables a kitchen to get everything right versus those places that have a short novel for a menu. I really liked the wings, and I never would have known that they were baked if they hadn't told me. My fatty patty (patty melt) was really good also. What I could have made a meal of were those onion rings and pub fries. Both hand cut, and cooked perfectly. The onion rings are crisp and not oily. I liked being able to take a bite of one and not have the entire onion pull out of the batter. The seasoning they use on the fries is spot on. I look forward to trying more of their food with a pint on my next visit. read more

I've been coming to this place for years after work with my buddies but after our last visit never again. My friend and I ended up getting food poisoning from here and I honestly don't think I'm coming back. I've never had something like this and it did genuinely freak me out when I started to feel awful. My youngest chose this place and I agreed. Started off with the onion rings as an appetizer. Overcooked. Like really really crispy. To the point the onions inside were over cooked. Knub's is a pretty cool place in an otherwise unassuming strip mall in Shawnee just off K7 on Johnson. It's run by (and named after) the same people who run Pizza West in the same strip mall, which is awesome, so we decided to try it out. We went on Wednesday which is Kids Night, so kids meals are all $1 with a $10 adult entree. They had a few choice pinball machines (Metallica, Adams Family, Iron Man, etc.) ranging from .25 to $1 per play along one wall and a guy making free balloon animals coming around to all the tables with kids (and he was pretty good too). The food was great. We started off with the corn bread cheese curds which were perfectly crispy and gooey. I ordered the tenderloin from the "Two-Handed Sandwiches" section of the menu, and it covered a good third of the large baking sheet the whole meal was served on. The sweet potato fries had some kind of batter on them and were excellent, crispy on the outside and not soggy in the middle. The kids chicken fingers were real fresh and juicy chicken, not typical frozen processed chicken tenders with cinnamon apples as a side. Wife didn't care much for the sesame vinaigrette on her salad, and at one point I heard Nickelback on the stereo, so it wasn't perfect, but we will definitely be back for more. read more

I'm out of town from California visiting my cousins in Kansas. We were looking for a spot open around 10:30pm, and this happened to be a spot! When we called to see what time they closed, they said the kitchen is open for another 15 minutes, so we just placed our order from the phone. We ordered: the brisket nachos, black magic wings, sweet potato fries, and onion rings! Our faves were the sweet potato fries and the wings. Yum! The food is delicious and the owner is involved, fun and friendly. Every time I go I notice that the bartenders are rude to customers (except maybe the regulars) and never smile. It looks like they are miserable and pissed off the entire time. The last two times I made a point to watch and each of those times I literally never saw one smile. The waitstaff on the other hand is always pleasant and friendly. As long as you sit in a booth far from the bar, it's great! The owner should really mention to his bar staff that their attitude is contagious and may discourage patrons from returning. read more

Great dive bar with a really good craft beer selection. The food was typical bar food and while good was not great. The service is very slow and I think the majority of the issue lies in the bar. It took 15 minutes to get our beers and we didn't see the waitress much after that. Don't be in a hurry when coming here. The bar itself is cool with pinball machines and eclectic decor. The fried pickles were unique and I am still trying to decide if I liked them or not. They were a sweet and sour petite pickle fried whole. My husband and I come here all the time, it's our favorite neighborhood bar because of the beer selection and amazing food. Everything tastes fresh and well seasoned. I'm in love with their adobo sauce that comes on their wings. (I even order a side of the sauce for my burgers and it is phenomenal). A little bit of heat but full of flavor. The wings are oven baked so it takes a bit longer but totally worth the wait! The fish and chips are generous in size and perfectly crispy and flavorful. The nachos are another one of my favorites. I've been driving by this place since they opened a couple years ago and finally decided to give it a try. After reading some reviews i wsnted to try the pork tenderloin sandwich and man i'm glad i did. As you can see from the picture, the meat was hanging off the bun by a long way. I cut some off and tried it all by itself and I was impressed with the flavor. It was hot and crispy with a flavor that went well with the coating. I had them hold the horseface sauce ( their version of a mild horseradish) and just used plain mayo which was great. The daily specials are very reasonably priced and my wife said the homemade margarita was delicious too. Kinda small dining area so i can see some wait times during busy hours, but they have an outdoor patio area for when the weather is nice. read more

Food + Service + Attention to detail is what deserves this rating. My boyfriend had the buffalo wings which were dry rubbed lightly drizzled with buffalo sauce. Huge fan. I had the Reuben sandwich which is one of the best that I've had in Kansas City. Can't go wrong with the fries and the dessert which is house made. Give it a try! The only downside is the noise from the pinball machines and screaming kids. Stopped by while visiting a friend and looking for a bar still serving food late. Sounded like our kind of place. Food was really outstanding, we just got an appetizer sampler and Nachos. Unlike lots of places when you get a sampler and there is maybe 3 of each item, this platter was packed! So many different items and a generous portion of each. Great beer selection, hand-crafted drinks were both unique and delicious. Atmosphere/decor was fun, there was a live musician, not sure if that's the norm. Only downside is there wasn't any quiet corners for easy conversation. Even in the tall booths conversation required raised voices, but that's kind of what you get with most bar/pubs. Definitely wouldn't stop me from coming back next time in the KC area. read more

I've been to this place many times and it is typically good. I placed a take out order this evening for 2 burgers. One was Cooked well as you'd expect, the other was completely raw. I had to cook it myself on the stove for about 10 minutes, as if it hadn't been cooked whatsoever beforehand. Second visit. First was in first week of business and was decent but wanted to give another shot. This time, we were seated quickly and had great service. The food selection is pub fare - don't come looking for health food - but it is very good. Burgers and chicken sandwiches are spot on. I had the fish and chips, which was a little different from the traditional Irish pub fare but in a great way. Nice beer list - had a Sierra Nevada Bigfoot and a Torn Label Alpha. Knub's is our family's absolute favorite place to eat in the area! Great atmosphere and we always love chatting with the owner. If you are looking for scratch made bar food, this place is the best. You have to try Knub's wings (especially the Adobo). Best wings we have had anywhere, hands down. She actually had to take our order a second time and we still didn't get everything we ordered. No apologies were given and no manager even came by the table.
