Tennis is NOT a priority here, so said the facility director.
    Tim B.

"I hate all tennis players" yelled out one of the reception desk clerks to a room of 25-30 patrons. I discovered this phrase was a motto, top down, originating with the angry facility director. You get only one chance to make a 1st impression. This was mine. With these workers who hate tennis players, I was in conflict every visit. REVIEW For obvious reasons I am not a fan of this place. And I am not a fan of the employees and management. The indoor wave pool, tennis courts, the people - all bad. Employee practice rudeness as routine. It's not okay. It's like it was built over a graveyard. And, while it's very enterprising for a city-operated facility to be run for profit, does anyone else have a problem with this? Isn't it the job of the city to provide services in exchange for tax and bond revenue? To provide clean parks, recreation, etc on a cost recovery basis rather than to compete against free enterprise? And this place is definitely in existence to make money, well beyond cost recovery. I get it when a city builds the recreation facility, then contracts operations to a vendor. But that's not the situation here. Or maybe it's the bad experiences I had here which rub me wrong. CONFLICT No one likes being disrespected! Such was the case with the facility director who shoved his boney finger in my face and shoveled a host of unkind, personal phrases. How do you say Cruella Deville? It's not like I bullied him when he was a dork kid. And, while I asserted my opinion with him, I never made it personal. It had to be said. Whatever. It's like it was built over a graveyard. It's wrong - all wrong. I like Tempe. But, not this place. Read my other reviews for tips, history, and entertainment. Thank you, Tim B.

reason why I like coming here, please watch out for crossing ducks :)

Recommend to family & friends If you are in Tempe, you must visit Kiwanis Park. This is such a beautiful park. Not only is it beautiful, family and friends would love it here for the weekend fun or holding an event. My first visit was when the boyfriend and I visited his house, located in Tempe and walking distance to the park. I fell in love with the park. There's a lake and a long sidewalk for runners out there. Best weather to run would be during the fall in the evening. Apparently it's still warm during the fall here, no surprise since we're talking about Arizona, desert state right? Haha... What will catch your eyes? The lake! Who would imagine desert like Arizona would have water?! I didn't... haha. Great place to bring your kids and family here on the weekends of after your meals just to walk around and breathe. What caught my eyes were the sign that says 'crossing ducks' http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/cSVmQusncacVHsCHObA1Gg?select=FeK9GKxNBVIGdQlp-FASFw#FeK9GKxNBVIGdQlp-FASFw Made me smile :) Take a look at the website : http://www.tempe.gov/index.aspx?page=774 there's many activities you can do with your family and friends. Oh my, did I mention? There's a wave pool inside of the recreation center! You heard me! Wave pool! How cool is that? :D There's also a fitness center (might need to be a member), tennis court, volleyball (my favorite!), batting cage, and some rentals (ask them for specific rentals). Seriously can spend a day here. Make sure to watch your children if you are walking near the lake because there is no barrier. Keep your kids by your side just for safely. There are ducks and probably random fishes in the lake. You can fish at the lake, but I wouldn't suggest to take the fishes home to eat. D: So glad this park is just 5 min walk from his place in Arizona. Will come back, maybe next time I'll bring my dog. :)

Very nice facility offering: a wave pool, tennis courts, batting cages and much more. The building has some years on it, but it is well kept. All services are "pay as you go" and reasonable in price. The pricing is a bit confusing because of this structure. Thumbs up to the management team here.

The wave pool part is nice but the food is different. The food is overpriced and isn't that great. The pizzas are frozen, any food that includes "pieces" aren't counted. The cashier told me they're "weighed out". This leaves you with pretty much nothing. Two wing combos (wings and drinks) came out to 18 dollars and this is what I get...

Sketchy crowd, they have security to keep everyone in line which says alot. Great lifeguards though.

It was 95 degrees so I knew a challenging hike would be out of the question. Something like Hole-in-the-Rock though, easy peasy. While there were a decent number of people there, I had no trouble finding free parking. This natural wonder is located in Papago Park close to the Phoenix Zoo and the Desert Botanical Garden. After you park, you'll have a five-minute walk to get to Hole-in-the-Rock. You'll have to climb an incline to get in the hole, so definitely be careful, but there are kids that do it too. And a lot of tourists that show up. So that pretty much sums it up. Once you get inside, you'll have an awesome view of the Phoenix through a literal hole in a big rock. You'll see a lot of people using it as a photo opp. That's not really my style, so instead, I took a seat and enjoyed the beauty for 10 minutes or so. It can get pretty crowded so keep that in mind if you stop by on a weekend. Hole-in-the-Rock is one of the top attractions on TripAdvisor in Phoenix. Definitely a cool (and short) adventure to cross of the bucket list. I spent 30 minutes there (which included hanging out in the rock for half the time).

Like, genuinely well done. They space the vendor area far enough from the stages so you're not fighting for your life trying to shop while also dodging people who are deep in their "vibe." Huge win. The stages are set up in a way where, even when artists are playing at the same time, it doesn't feel like a chaotic sound clash, which I did not expect but fully appreciated. Also noticed they adjusted the layout a bit this year (especially around the Rise Up stage), and it worked. Way smoother flow overall. GA+ still not exactly bursting at the seams, but hey, more room for the rest of us. Sound? On point. Setup? Thought out. Experience (overall)? Actually great. Now... the people. Let's just say there comes a moment in life where you realize a fan base is no longer your fan base. And for me, that moment was somewhere between hour 8 and hour 9 of holding down my spot, when I got full-on trampled by someone who apparently believed personal space is a myth. Ma'am. I had been standing there for nearly 9 hours. NINE. This was not a casual pop-in situation. Up until that point, everything had been amazing. The music, the energy, the flow, chef's kiss. But that one interaction? Immediate vibe break. That said, I'm choosing growth here: I genuinely hope she finds whatever she's running toward... and maybe learns how not to run directly through people to get there. Overall though? As a venue for this fest, Tempe Beach Park absolutely delivers. I'll be back... just maybe with stronger crowd boundaries and a little more side-eye.

It's a beautiful location with scenic views of the bridges and water, and there's even a nearby museum which adds to the experience. Parking can be a bit of a mixed situation. There is a parking garage available, but it does require payment. We also noticed an additional open lot next to the garage where you can park for free; however, it is gated and the surface is mostly dirt and rocks, so just something to keep in mind. One thing we didn't come across was a public restroom, so it's unclear where the nearest one is located. Overall, it's a great area to visit and enjoy events. My only suggestion would be to add more parking options or provide a designated free parking area for visitors, so not everyone has to pay for parking.
