The space on 19th is a great location in a quiet part of Capitol Hill. It's easy to get to on foot and there's plenty of street parking. Lorraine takes her time to give a proper cut and her prices are reasonable. I LOVE that I can make appointments by emailing her and she gets back to me right away with several options time options based on my requirements. If you don't have a lot of time for phone tag, this is a great scheduling alternative. Darcie has also cut and colored my hair and she is great as well. Added perks: a variety of good magazines, coffee, candy, good music, and sometimes there's a very adorable and well-behaved Boston Terrier on location who will come say hi. read more

I've been growing out my hair for about six years now, and I rarely get it trimmed let alone actually cut or styled. I have been going to Darcy for about a year and a half. What can I say! I love this place and her! The atmosphere is relaxing and cool. The décor is so tasteful. But there is not an ounce of snooty attitude from any of the stylists there. I have seen clients of every age and gender in here and every one of them seems to leave very happy. And then there is Darcy's skills. She is amazing. Her cuts and color are the best I have ever had. She will tell you straight up if she thinks your idea of what would look good on you will or not. April is Awesome!! I just moved here and we all know everyone hates leaving their hairdresser but I lucked out finding April! My hair was in desperate need of freshening up. I have very thin fine hair with no body. I tried this salon after reading great reviews and I was VERY happy to find that the reviews are true. I saw April and she was attentive, knowledgeable, easy to talk to and listened to my wants and gave great advice when it came to my hair. As a woman who has been spending the better part of the past 2 years trying to find someone who could replace the stylist I left behind in CA, I am seriously relieved that I can stop looking! I will keep coming back as long as April is working there! I had long layered hair with about 4 or 5 colors in it (from bad experiments at other salons) and was in desperate need of a change. I was in need of a great salon and stylist and I went to Kitty Hawk (based on these amazing reviews) and Lorraine cut my hair. Lorraine is AWESOME! She gave me an adorable pixie (with curly hair,which is not the easiest thing to do) and was very attentive, helpful, and really understood how my hair worked (I have curly, fine, brown hair). She made me feel very comfortable (noticing the tea I was drinking while waiting and refilling it for me) and offered that I could/should come in if I needed any changes after playing with it for a few days. I have had long hair for 20 years but found as I have gotten older and it has thinned at the hairline that the length was ageing me. It took a long time to work up the courage to make a major change; but after my experience and the results from Val Arras I wondered why I waited so long. I recently moved here from Los Angeles and I've been diligently searching for a great stylist for 2 months. After much research I decided to see VAL at this lovely salon in Capitol Hill, based on reviews of the salon and bios of the stylists. I am so thankful that I chose to see Val. Just wow. I had full foils and a cut. I'm SUPER picky about my hair...and I am blown away. My color is gorgeous, natural, and exactly what I wanted but even better. The quality of all products Val used was excellent. My husband commented that it was the best my hair has looked in years. NO zebra stripes and beautifully mixed colors (cinnamon with blond highlights..really pretty). My cut is exactly what I wanted but even better than I thought my hair could look. It's hip and chic, and the layers are perfect. I am thrilled that I found Kitty Hawk and Val. The service was excellent and extremely professional. I am grateful to have found her. Stylist Konnie Nelson rocks! I love my hair and felt sexy after I left the Salon... A good cut can really raise the self image and Konnie can deliver. My current do is good for going out as well as work and I don't have to do hardly anything to keep it looking great...that is what you get with a good cut. April is a hair magician. I have really curly, kinda frizzy, crazy ass hair that hasn't been long in 30 years. I took my mop in to April and said I wanted to grow it out. Major challenge. She has given me 4 or 5 great cuts and I've liked every single one, even through the awkward growing out stages. The best thing I can say about her is that she listens, carefully, every time I come in to what I like and don't like and what I want to have done. She makes suggestions which I can take or leave, and has managed to blend in weird pieces and give me what I'm looking for every time. Bonus: she costs half of what I was paying previously. When I visited the salon the first time, I wanted about 8 inches cut off my hair; Lorraine was totally supportive of my ideas, but she helped me figure out the best way to ease in to a short cut after years of long locks. She is so skilled and knowledgeable, I'd consider about anything she suggested. I had a bad color incident several years ago, and told myself I'd never color my hair again, but after hearing her suggestions, I'm tossing around the idea! She's so much fun to talk to and catch up with, and the salon is such a laid back place. I live overseas and only was in Seattle for a short trip and desperately needed a haircut. This is my first Yelp review, but I had such a good experience that I felt I needed to write it. Based on previous Yelp reviews I booked with April, and she lived up to the absolute awesomeness that everyone talks about! There was massive traffic in Seattle the evening I went (more so than usual), so both April and I were delayed but she kept the salon open a couple hours past their closing time just to finish cutting my hair. I have thick, wavy hair that I am very particular about, and April cut it exactly how I wanted it. I don't have time to style or dry, so really rely on a cut that naturally looks good after a wash and air dry. April did just that. Even though I primarily live outside of the US, I am seriously contemplating flying back to Seattle when I need to get my hair cut again just so I can see her! read more
