I am so glad I found this little treat hidden off the main roads in a shopping center in Frederick. I would have never thought to explore this area but after reading a few Kittiwat reviews, I need to try this out.
Let's start off with drinks. I had a Thai Iced Tea Mojito. It was quite awesome and refreshing. I had to stop at one because I was getting the glow. We also ordered the Thai Iced Coffee ($5). I come out on a wooden tray with the thai coffee and milk separate and a glass with Thai coffee ice cubes.
That's right. THAI COFFEE ICE CUBES.
Like a project straight outta Pinterest, that you admire but you're kinda too lazy to follow through with.
The coffee got stronger and my heart rate got faster as the ice cubes melted. As someone who is the anti-ice this is a dream come true.
Then we moved onto appetizers, we ordered:
Shrimp Parcels ($7, $5 for HH). Described as blanketed shrimps w/ peanut sweet chili sauce. It also came with a vinegary sauce with cucumbers in it. I very much preferred that sauce.
Avocado Summer Rolls ($7). Loved this one. Basically a lettuce wrap, tofu, scallion, carrot, avocado, basil, lettuce, glass noodles w/ peanut tamarind hoisin sauce
Tom Yum Koong Soup ($6)- Described as a spicy and sour lemongrass soup w/ shrimp, mushroom, scallion and cilantro. It had a notable kick to it.
And now for the meal:
Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodle)-Ok so there is a notation in the menu that states in Thailand, people don't order chicken as the meat for pad thai. So I guess that influenced our choice with the drunken noodles. Based on the server's recommendation, we ordered pork belly to go with this flat rice noodle dish.
The dish came out with HELLA PORK BELLY. I'm like the last person on earth to ever complain about an excess of pork belly, but there was more pork belly than noodles. Nice time I'd go with seafood with this.
It also came with a little branch of peppercorns. It was so cute, I wanted to make it into a little headcrown wreath for like a hamster.
Crab Fried Rice ($17)- I ordered this dish, since I was craving rice. Much like the pork belly trend with the other entree, this dish was plentiful with the lump crab meat. Crab on top, crab mixed in with the rice. I was very much please with this selection and the portion was large enough to have leftover with lunch.
As if this place was not already awesome enough with their modern decor and a enviable mirror selection in the bathroom, they have lunch specials and their happy hour is from 3:30 PM - 6:30 PM and features drinks and food specials. Service was great, our server (with the most gorgeous rose tattoo) was always ready to make suggestions, bring out more of their addictive shrimp chips, and our waters were always full. I am already planning a return trip to try the Kuay Tiao Ruah (Boat Noodles). read more
